Access to Quality Education: Wike abolishes fees and levies for public primary and secondary schools

In a bid to create access to quality education, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has announced the total abolition of all forms of fees and levies in public primary and secondary schools across the state.

Governor Wike directed State-Owned Primary and Secondary Schools to stop collecting fees and levies from students and pupils with immediate effect.

Governor Wike stated that henceforth the State Government will be sending direct allocations to all primary and secondary schools management for their operations.

He spoke on Monday during a meeting with the heads of primary and secondary schools, Rivers State Senior Secondary Schools Board and State Universal Basic Education Board at the Government House Port Harcourt.

He said: “From today henceforth, no child either in primary and secondary schools should pay fees and levies in any school across the State.

“The monies you collect from these children are just used for your personal purposes. If I hear that any school head collects any fees or levies, be they examination , NECO or WAEC fees, that school head would be sanctioned.

“We shall not only dismiss the school head who collects fees or levies, we will prosecute the person involved.


“Government will work out grants that will be sent to the schools for their regular management and operations “.

Governor Wike directed the State Ministry of Education, the Rivers State Senior Secondary Schools Board and the State Universal Basic Education Board to monitor all public schools across the state to ensure compliance.

The Governor noted that the administration funds the salaries, allowances, examinations and equipment of all public schools. He assured parents that his administration will remain committed to the provision of quality education, which is accessible to the less privileged.

“I have abolished all fees and levies and it will never happen again in our public primary and Secondary schools. Nobody should collect fees and levies from the children of the less privileged “, he said.

The school heads celebrated the new directive of the Rivers State Governor.

I made a direct transfer from my bank to ibtc mmf account. A receipt was printed and I used it as evidence of payment.

I didn't use the app. I contacted them on their verified Facebook page since I couldn't go back to their bank due to time schedule. They requested for my phone number and email. They contacted me afterwards and requested I scan the filled form, receipt of payment, passport and means of identification (I used my voters card) and send to them. They opened it for me and sent me my mmf account number and password. I changed the password after my first login and that was it. I've been checking my account on the asset management website ever since.

Minimum wage is for all Nigerian workers no segregation of whether core civil servants or police NNPC etc.

The 30k minimum wage is for only ministries/departments/agencies whose salary structure is such that the least paid worker is being paid less than 30k, this differentiation is necessary because some MDAs such as customs, nnpc and a few others HAVE SALARY STRUCTURES ABOVE THE RECENTLY APPROVED MINIMUM WAGE BILL.
President buhari has in different fora pointed this out to Nigerians.

The money did not come in bulk as calculated but in pieces. Imagine the time we were owed what happened to people, so much debt, some money are still pending like the 2 months some are expecting...and so on.

Though some achievements might have been made in one way or the other by some but may not be as expected for others.

If you are still trekking after 5 years of work and living in a rented apartment with debt, no change in wardrobe and no hope of getting a land without a reasonable loan you need a pay lift.

While we pray for an increased salary, be rest assured that it won't make us financially comfortable because as your salary increases, your needs also increase with it, so even if you're placed on 300k salary. If you can't discipline yourself and save and invest now, don't think you can do it when your salary increases.
The key is to start imbibing the spirit of financial discipline, act like you're paid only 35k and put the other into savings/investment

Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike on Friday said he would comply with the provisions of the new minimum wage law as approved by the National Assembly and recently ratified by President Mohammadu Buhari.

For people presently earning higher than 30k, their new pay will be calculated by using only their basic salary (you can get your basic salary from your payslip) to divide the last minimum wage of 18k then multiply the result By the present 30k minimum wage, after which, you now add other allowances such as housing medical, transportation and others
