Nairaland GeneralHow To Make My Dog Bark? by goldenray(op): 2:15pm On Mar 11, 2007
My Dog Wont Bark O!

I have this half breed Alsatian/local dog that will not bark no matter what i do.

Iit is about 6 months old now, quite big for his age but too playful. It never barks at anyone, be it a stranger or not. Not even welcoming barks for me!

What could be wrong? Any idea on how to make a dog start barking and be less friendly?
Jobs/VacanciesSalary Structure Info Needed Urgently. by goldenray(op): 3:48pm On Mar 08, 2007
can anyone help out here please.i need to know the structure for an IT officer-in your organization. What are the different levels that he will rise through after his entry level. for instance, an organisation that employs an IT officer has this structure:

entry level(45k)->IT officer II(56k)->IT officer I->(70k)->IT manager(90k)->IT administrator.

promotion from one level to another is determined by additional qualifications acquired, achievements in previous office and time. salary increase is by 10-15% of previuos salary.
please post any info you have on this for me. I need it to draw up a policy in my company. oil companies, banks, parastatals and private orgs structures are welcome. This is urgent if you dont mind. Thanks

TV/MoviesRe: Nollywood: You Can Do Better! by goldenray(op): 10:04am On Mar 02, 2007
heres some common ones. I guess you already thought of majority:

THINGS WE'VE LEARN'T FROM NOLLYWOOD!

1. Every problem you have is spiritual.

2. In every romance movie, someone must die.

3. It is possible to hit a person without actually touching them!

4. Anyone who gets hit by a car dies immediately, well in like 90% of the time!

5. Poisoned food always tastes better,

6. The best way to make money is by visiting a
'Babalawo'.

7. At least one of a pair of twins (identical or not)
is born evil.

8. There is never an end to your suffering, except
death!

9. With a pastor, all things are possible!

10. A movie can be titled anything, such as - the boy is mine, Two rats, Spanner, Calculator,!

11. A movie has not been made if at least one
actor/actress has not- 'shelled' (twisted his/her lips
to speak wrong phonetics)!

12. You are in love, you want to take your girl out,
the best place you take her to is, Mr. Biggs,
Tantalizers, the beach or , , the best, take her to buy some new ugly clothes!

13. An Igbo movie has been made if,
* You visit a 'Babalawo'
* A fleet of cars is shown off
* Kanayo 'O' Kanayo is in the movie
* Pete Edochie is also there too!
* To get rich it is mandatory you join a cult!

14. Gun shots and Knock-out sound the same!

15. Most times the title has absolutely nothing to do
with the movie.

16. A love story has not been produced if it does not
have one or two of the following cast actresses-
* Stella Damascus
* Stephanie Okereke
* Genevieve Nnaji
* Omotola Jalade
* Rita Dominic

17. The police are extremely 'efficient' unlike their
counterparts in real life,

18. An actress can wear the same hairdo for more than a year,

19. It is permissible to wear very dark shades in the
night!

20. When you are shot in the chest, it really doesn't
matter; your head will be bandaged! Same for your
legs!

21. When advertising a movie, you really should shout because, people are deaf?

22. When you are extremely poor, you will still be
able to afford- very good furniture, T.V., but you
won't be able to send your kids to school

keep posting wink

ok folks. Nollywood is growing real fast. But have you noticed some major errors, unneccesary parts and absolute nonsensical features of Naija movies? This thread is dedicated to listing some of the abnormalities/'funnies' that you have noticed about nollywood movies that ought to be eradicated. common, lets get the ball rolling! grin

ok guys: This is it: It was a deliberate attempt. What next? If the next info you are going to paste will involve procedures that other viewers can misuse or use for their own advantage, or for other dubiuos purpose, i suggest you just mail it to me at bonziekay@yahoo.com. Funny how some individuals can be greedy isn't it?
@sbucareer will also try to get the info you need from an independent dealer.
ComputersRe: It Gurus: Solution Needed Here Plz by goldenray(op): 8:45am On Mar 01, 2007
This is becoming more interesting and challenging. Mukadas & sbucareer, I appreciate your contributions so far. You guys are really good! Now having gone carefully through your suggestions, I have carried out two actions:
1. I have dispatched someone to anonymously visit their cafe and try to access the website.
2. i earlier sent a report on the situation to their tech support, but so far I have been on the ignore list

Now Mukadas, what sbucareer suggested is not illegal in anyway as he rightly pointed out. All's fair in war, especially if you are on the defensive and being unjustly attacked. Once i get the feedback from my emmissary, I will launch into attack with the 'sbucareer strategy', before i switch ISP.
As soon as i get the feedback, will post it,
ComputersRe: It Gurus: Solution Needed Here Plz by goldenray(op): 9:05am On Feb 28, 2007
Great thinking sbucareer!there's a head on that shoulder. I suspect the same thing but in a different way. let me paint the full scenario for you guys so you understand better. My ISP is located in the same town with me. Incidentally, they own the only Cyber cafe business in town after running others off someway, somehow. Now we are not a cyber cafe, but we do run e-registration services to people.In a way then,we are competition for them in that regard 'cos people prefer coming to us for such things than going to this ISP's cyber cafe. You may be aware that WAEC just released the 2006 nov/dec results.NECO too same. You can imagine the business potential for a large student populated town with only one cyber cafe. The first day the results were released, we here were able to access them, but from the following day, it just would'nt open again.Thats when i started suspecting foul play.

I think my ISP delibrately denied access to that site to divert all such e-registration biz traffic to their cafe(who would know?)
sbucareer, do you think that is possible? 'cos there is no exception to the site here and like i said earlier, it already opened on the first day before ceasing.
This is why i need the network administrators and IT gurus on Nairaland. If we cant solve this problem here, i dont think i can ever solve it.
@sbucareer, i have tried logging on to my router gateway but no authentication. What next guys? I need evidence that these guys delibrately cut this site off. This might turn into a Legal battle. I need your support and help folks. I am sure collectively, we'll end this thread as thewinners.
makadas-thanks. more from you. Seun where u dey? sbucareer, thumbs up!
Christianity EtcRe: Why Are Some Christians Poor? by goldenray(m): 1:00pm On Feb 27, 2007
lemme make something a little bit clearer. Poverty is not being poor. Looks like most people are mixing both up. poverty is lacking in the essentials of life. you are never satisfied because what you have is never enuff no matter how much it is. being poor is simply not having! thats why poverty is not the portion of christians. christians can be poor and still be christians. but to be in poverty? something is eriously wrong with that life.It's a crime for a bible believing,christ-loving believer to be in poverty!
Christianity EtcRe: Why Are Some Christians Poor? by goldenray(m): 12:48pm On Feb 27, 2007
very interesting question. the simple answer to that question however is so very dificult to carry out.
there are two reasons why a christian will remain poor, regardless of how devouted he is.forget the fact that God lets some people face the realities of life so they come out stronger. that is only for a period even if long. the clear reasons are:
1. coolinability to overcome SELF. this is one of the hardest things to do. can you think of others and go the extra lenght of helping them out even when it is inconvenient for you to do so? are your thoughts only bordered on helpin yourself first before others? that is SELF-a big limitation to wealth.
2. there is this principle and the truth is it does't really matter if u are a christian or not. if you carry it out, expect immediate results, 'where there is a scattering, there must be a gathering'. thats it. you scatter to others, regardless of what you are, you MUST SURELY gather in return.the bible says so.i'm a living proof of it.i used to be a selfish person even though very hard working.but when these concepts were revealed to me, not to think of how to sustain myself, but seek ways of helping others, things changed dramatically and immediately. from paying tithe of apprxt 8-9k a month, it rocketed to well over 20k per month and still rising cos i ain't stoppin there.now i dont frown when i pay tithes. its a thing of joy! and i pay WITHOUT expecting or thinking of what i will get in return.
wow, long sermon. i can go on and on, but hey, try them out.it is more blessed to give than to receive. God bless you all

EducationStories About Cultism In Nigerian Universities by goldenray(op): 5:08pm On Feb 22, 2007
Cults In Nigerian Universities! Were You An Axeman, Bucca Or:

Living and growing in Nigeria is really fun if you take time to think about it all. Is it from how you skipped nursery school and went ahead to primary school, rolling tyres on the major streets of Ikeja and using paw-paw stems as guns to play the popular game - 'police and thief'.

To the stage where you rounded up primary school, feeling like a guru because you didn't repeat a class and got into secondary school scared as hell for the first time in your life because u are finally on your own? Stages of eyeing pretty girls without the liver to approach them to the stage where note and poem sending becomes a hobby, or you want to backtrack on the events that sent you off school for one mischief or the other that you committed, still you feel unjustly treated, well, events, events,events in our lives as we grow from childhood to adulthood.

But then, before we get too advanced in age to remember these beautiful things, lets focus on our campus days, if you are a graduate anyway or almost one. Did you ever have any clash with cultists? know any real life stories of their activities? Better still, if you were one, you can download gist for us.

I remember in my school-UNILORIN, used to be the most feared cult [2001-2003]. I remember a popular raid on the VC's office in broad daylight on a saturday to remove the mans hard drive. It was a terrifying day! Gun shots every where. Then i remember a day when an 'ake' man axed a brodamans guts out in the gale of the public! These guys, what they did, but then they ruled in a way dint they? Let's hear your stories/comments! wink

hi folks. this is real serious. if this is a virus then its pretty good. precisely two week s ago, all the systems in my office started playing funny. the systems intermittently shut down and restart all by themselves at will. this happens especially if you try to download or install. i have formatted and reformated the systems to no avail. the same thing keeps happening after a few days of formating. all the systems are hooked to the internet. funny enough, a lot of virus detection messages pop up on each system, scanning by Mcfee and AVg fails to delete them. Does anyone know what is happening? what can i do?
