Mickael2: He said about Ideye, Martins and even Ighalo. Are you forgetting that he wanted Nacho to start? Oya tell me we would be here with Nacho up front?
Big ups to Ndidi, seriously covering for Onazi. Why is Onazi so quick to hoof the ball away This game is not for Iwobi and Kelechi type to start. It would have been comedy watching Kelechi square up against Tekei if he was in the same position Ighalo found himself. Ndidi didn't have a good first 10 minutes. But gradually eased himself into the game. Onazi have not been disappointing, although I notice he's a bit heavy. |

I don't expect more goals in the second half. Throughout this qualifiers we have been a first half team. 2:0 is a solid result. Rohr must tighten our grip on the midfield. We have all the cards. |

Going from a highly sort after winger in Europe to Hull City is quite depressing. At this point, he should really be considering the Chinese option. |

I pray you keep each and every one of them protected. May you watch over them and every supporter of the Super Eagles. Grant the supporters who will be visiting the stadium journey mercies and give them the strength to cheer the team to victory.

blueto: Leaked – Rohr Drops Leicester City Star Iheanacho, Etebo From Super Eagles Starting XI
Kelechi Iheanacho is the major casualty in the starting line up of the Super Eagles for today’s World Cup 2018 Qualifiers tie against Cameroon in Uyo, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Leaks gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com from their final training session can confirm coach Gernot Rohr has settled for a front three of Moses Simon, Odion Ighalo and Victor Moses.
The trio were the attackers the manager spent time with in yesterday’s close door session with emphasis on exploiting the apparent lack of pace in the defence of Cameroon.
Oghenekaro Etebo was also not in the squad that did tactical drills with the coach as vice captain Ogenyi Onazi alongside captain John Obi Mikel are expected to be in the midfield with Wilfred Ndidi.
Here is how they lined up in yesterday’s close door session, which was their final tune up for today’s clash against Cameroon.
Ikechukwu Ezenwa (GK)
Shehu Abdullahi
Elderson Echiejile
William Troost-Ekong
Leon Balogun
Wilfred Ndidi
John Obi Mikel
Ogenyi Onazi
Moses Simon
Victor Moses
Odion Ighalo
http://owngoalnigeria.com/2017/09/01/leaked-rohr-drops-leicester-city-star-iheanacho-etebo-from-super-eagles-starting-xi/ Moses Simon have worked his way into becoming a main stay of the Super Eagles. It's time fans respect the man. The Camerounian team have a below average left-back. Simon should be charged to take him on as often as possible and skin him alive. I guess Ndidi will start ahead of Etebo to balance up the height deficiency against the tall Camerounians. |

Icon79: Goldenfish, please the insult to someone else. As regards to my initial assertions, please check the second page (page 1) of the thread link below: https://www.nairaland.com/3959115/nigeria-vs-cameroon-2018-fifa/1
Having said that, my insult on my person was totally uncalled for and I will report you to the moderators of this forum if you don't desist. I have watched you here on NL for a while and I can diagnose you as someone with Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
...Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for admiration and a lack of empathy for others. But behind this mask of ultra confidence lies a fragile self-esteem that's vulnerable to the slightest criticism.
And I know that because if you have narcissistic personality disorder, you may come across as conceited, boastful or pretentious. You often monopolize conversations. You may belittle or look down on people you perceive as inferior. You may feel a sense of entitlement — and when you don't receive special treatment, you may become impatient or angry. You may insist on having "the best" of everything — for instance, the best car, athletic club or medical care....
....At the same time, you have trouble handling anything that may be perceived as criticism. You may have secret feelings of insecurity, shame, vulnerability and humiliation. To feel better, you may react with rage or contempt and try to belittle the other person to make yourself appear superior.... and I can go on and on, but I think you got the point.
This is not criticism just facts. If you doubt me, please go meet another psychiatrist.
O pari In six paragraph you have shown yourself as a douche bag kid you are. Imagine routing me to a thread I know nothing about. What a plank. |

Icon79: Height is a preference but NOT a requirement for a good goalkeeper. It's the same with Center Backs. All things being equal, a good coach would prefer a taller goalkeeper to man the post but there are many equally important qualities we look for when we evaluate goalkeepers.
The trouble with an average Nigerian is that once he learns something new, he would hold tightly onto it as if his life depends on it. I only made a passing reference, on a different thread, that Rohr probably preferred Akpeyi over Ezenwa because of his height advantage; then this Goldenfish dude (or whatever da heck he calls himself) starts parroting it (without any filters) as if that's his ATM card number
O pari Sorry to say this, but you basically sat behind your screen and typed nonsense. I never saw or read any comment you made about goalkeepers height. This is crazy. It's even more absurd to think you're thw reason why I belive goalkeepers should be tall, when I can't recall you making any comment about goalkeepers and height. What a megalomaniac dude you are. A kindergarten kid will be ashamed to type this nonsense you cooked up. |

tbaba1234: Enyeama made an average of 2.6 saves a game last season, same as the season before and higher than 2014/2015 season. I can't see this decline. His stats last season are very similar to previous years. He has been very consistent for Lille and is seen as a Lille legend. The Lille team has depreciated in the last few seasons but i can't see a decline.
The best keepers reached their prime in their 30s. Enyeama just needs to heal and get playing again. There are no obvious signs of decline.
Let us first qualify.. I don't have his stats at hand but from reports I saw last season, he was not exactly at the top of his game. Bearing in mind that he has been layed off by Lille, injured and without a club, do you think it's in the best interest of the team to have an under prepared goalkeeper for the World Cup? If he can find a club by January and actually get to play before the season end, he will have my vote for the World Cup. Anything short of that is a no no for me. Ps: I'm speaking for myself |

komekn: His reputation precedes him and it's an excellent one, getting a club in the top leagues of Europe will not be a problem.
He is a prized quality goalkeeper. Forgive my incredulity, but I will be amazed if a 35yr old African goalkeeper, with an injury record bagged a contract with a club in a top European league. |

blueto: what you should have deduced from that reply was that I meant that height is not everything. Since the available goalkeeper is “short” then the coach should know how to organize the team so that the Cameroonians will not be able to exploit such “weakness.” To me, weaknesses, disadvantages and challenges are meant to be harnessed for one's good if done with the right purpose or motive.
And I don't buy the idea of “because the world said or says it, then it is right.” The voice of the people is not always the voice of God! I find your last paragraph very funny... Lol |

tbaba1234: He is 35, not particularly old for a goalkeeper. He still has a couple of good years in him. He was Lille number 1 last season. Performed well. I do not see that as a decline. One injury and he is on a decline?? One season is enough to see a career go down hill. As a matter of fact, last season wasn't a good one for Vincent and Lille. Make no mistake about it, at 35 Vincent is no spring chicken, even for a goalkeeper. If you check through the rank and file of top league teams (let's use the Premiership in this case). How many 35yrs old goalkeepers can you find in the 20 team Premier league? Looks like we are heading for a repeat of France 98 all over again. |

tbaba1234: He has been one of the top keepers in Ligue 1, I am certain, that he can find a place where he will play regularly. Players get injured all the time and bounce back. Several teams will love a keeper of Enyeama's quality and experience. You're speaking in platitudes. Enyeama will be very lucky to find a team mid season taking his age and injury history into consideration. Its time we accept the inevitable. Enyeama's career is on a downhill. Nothing lasts forever. |

tbaba1234: Enyeama is only clubless because of injury. Once he recovers, he will get a club to play for and will be ready for the world cup. He has been one of the top goalkeepers in Ligue 1 for the last few seasons.
He might have to go to a smaller team but he can get a team where he will start regularly. Aren't you over estimating Enyeama abit here? You think he will walk into a club and snatch the no1 position without a pre season? Stranger things have happened but..... |

That way he will get enough game time before the world cup. If he hangs around in Europe, he may not get that game time required. In my opinion |

blueto: So you are saying that they didn't see his “shortness” before they invited or permitted him to participate in the trial? like you said, it may be one of the reasons, but I don't consider it as one of the major reasons, other determinant factors came to play to me.
Heights have its advantages, but also has it disadvantages for goalkeepers. some tall goalkeepers actually find it difficult to cope with bottom corner balls. This was what Tottenham exploited against Courtious when they mauled Chelsea 5-3 some seasons ago. Virtually every bottom corner ball they played made it inside the net. Please elects not let this drag. Goalkeepers are meant to be tall. Just like basketballers should be tall. Doesn't mean you can't have an Allen Iverson, it doesn't take it away that he height is an advantage teams look out for before recruiting goalkeepers. The whole world can't be wrong on that. List the names of all the goalkeepers in the world you know and tell me how many are less than 6ft2. |

tbaba1234: The only other tall keeper in camp is Alampasu, who is a rookie.
Cameroon are going to set up like South Africa. Be tight at the back and try to nick a goal and see how Nigeria respond. You're on Pont. I expect them to play exactly like they played Senegal at the AFCON. The key to besting them is to carefully analyse that game. |

blueto: Enyeama is not very tall, but remains one of the best in the game. Even the Mexican Guillermo Ochoa, who is also regarded as one of the best in the world. Flip thorough history and check how many outstanding goalkeepers were short. If Enyeama was taller vertically, he would have played in a bigger team. One of the reason Bolton didn't sign him from Enyimba even after impressing while at trials was his height disadvantage. Make no mistake about it, height matters a lot when considering a goalkeeper. |
