It is shameful that in a place like Nigeria with everything in scarcity, we are able to find #4.4b to build an institution to name after a foot baller. Like people here rightly stated, what about technical schools that can train people for diploma in many occupations(give training on how to catch fish than giving fish) how about hospitals like someone stated here, power generating plants to provide the electrical power that can unleash the people's entrepreneurial talent. I know that education should be one of our major focus, but why is our so called leaders so focused on building institutions more than what make those institutions, as if the buildings are what guarantees good education.

Hi Nairalanders,

I need info, is there a market for used computers both laptops and desktops, I have access to buy up to container-load of these items.
They are fairly used, they are used mainly by colleges/universities in the united states and some local governments and municipalities.
These computers have had drives but they have been wiped clean but there are no operating systems.
They include: IBM thinkpads, Dells, HPs.

The author did not say if these men wanted to be bit up. You know sometimes we men like it a bit kinky.
On another note, if these men are having their backside kicked without their permission, then the Ghananian men are a bunch of girliemen.
Now I need a nice girl to come and beat me up!

Yes, it is not possible in Nigeria because the ruling elite have managed to selfishly separate us into our ethnic groups, so that anything that happens in Nigeria would be viewed from ethnic identity and interest rather than the collective interest and desire of the people?

Who cares, the media will always potray africa as  bad bad bad so the west will never move east to witness the evil they do, We should all be more concerned about the US invading Libya, Useless obama about to invade Africa

May be invasion might be what Libya needs at this time, rude-boy Ghaddafi does not seem to know that the gig is up, the people he has impoverished and imprisoned for 40 yrs have awoken from their collective slumber and inertia and proclaimed that they are mad as hail and are not going to take it any more. Everyone complains about US imperialism but no one wants to step in and help these people who are putting their life in line for freedom, whether it is in middle east, Africa or  Asia, US remain the last hope of the oppressed, sometimes they make a mistake, and screw up, but most of the times they get it right.

Good advice but the people in power will not care, they are busy stealing whatever they can.

kobojunkie, did u read the sermon dat was delivered by the preist,I asked him just before the service in my Vestry, why are you here today? Why are you doing this thanksgiving? Is it for you to justify yourself, to say oh I didn’t do it? He said, no, God protected him he didn’t allow him to die in prison, and for the encounter he had with him; for the relationship he developed with Jesus Christ and that you should not let go.
so if bode says he has found a new meaning to life in jesus ,let that be between he and jesus.it is not for u to question becos u will get no answers for now.only time will tell.GOD has forgiven worse pple and used them to for his purpose, so give the man a chance to prove himself that he is now a new creature in christ.

Complete BS, and psychobabble.

@Soreola, Is either he your friend is an illegitimate son or have had a fall-out with Mr. Graduate-of-life. Your friend should talk to his mom and if the mom says this criminal is his father, he should get a dna test(I heard they do that in Niaja now) and hire good lawyer, he may be able to get a good share of that loot.
And for you, Mr. Good Friend, were you there when the judge went through all the evidence and convicted him? Do you know what it is for Nigerian judge to convict a man of this calibre? Do you know how many GMG bags of cash he would have had to reject before convicting this rogue?

I guess life in prison can't be that bad especially if you have so much looted $ awaiting you on the other side. Six months for that amount? He should get his sons ready to run for governor, remember someone named Abacha ? Only in Naija.

I have a cousin who is a Computer Engineering graduate, he's presented me with a proposal for a computer school that he would like me to invest in(as the owner) he would put his expertise to work as the director/teacher. I can afford the start-up money but my worry is that he is overly optimistic about a huge return on investment. Does any one in this forum know the intricacies of operating a computer/IT school? if yes i need help in deciding whether & how to proceed.
I do not live in Nigeria currently but intend to have a good thriving business there, I am willing to travel there every three/four months if possible.

Politics / Re: Breaking News: Jonathan Removes Maurice Iwu by gonyix: 10:09pm On Apr 29, 2010
This is a step in the right direction, but lets all remember that the electoral problems in Nigeria symbolized this time by Prof Iwu, is only a symptom of our bigger problem, more or less a microcosm of the bigger problem plaguing Nigeria; which is CORRUPTION. We are a very corrupt society and removing Prof Iwuh though a magnificient move will not solve our problem. Whenever we wonder why we as a society cannot hold credible elections, we should look in the mirror for that answer. Can anyone point to any thing we as a country have been able to do without the involvement of corruption? or did we all of a sudden believe that our election would not be a reflection of our values as a society. Is it possible that our elections would be the only aspect of our existence as a society, that is devoid of our national albatross? Iwu must go! and then who is next in line to become our scapegoat, who would Jonathan appoint today that would come in and with the wave of a magic wand immediately turn the Nigerian electorate into law- abiding, impeccable and incorruptible society? "

Romance / Re: Nigerian Married Men And Adultery by gonyix: 6:32am On Oct 07, 2009
Boboribo:

@Agnesqueen

Most men cheat on their wives not because they want to or choose to. They just do it to get the kick out of it. I did it a lot but stopped when I realised that it was not worth the trouble. All women a just the SAME including my wife. Anytime I get the urge to cheat, I just go back home and make sweet love to my wife and get the compliment I wouldn't get outside.

Frankly I wonder why we get married at all. It is one boring routine. when you eventually get married, you will find out that the hassles you think you're going through will not be compared to what you will experience even if you get married to the POPE. Look for a man that loves you and not one you love.

@Annsqueen,
You did not mention whether you are Naija, but from the sound of things I think you are Naija.
You have also stated wot I suspected half way into your epistle, that You dont like Nigerian men. First I apologize to you for your "unpleasant experiences", but I must tell you that I am disturbed by your genenarilzations about Nigerian men. For your Info Nigerian men are not the only men that cheat on their wives, from wot you said you singled out the Nigerian men. I beleve wot  u see with nigerian men is more a microcosm of wot obtains out there in the general public.
Secondly you stated that you dont date Nigerian men, I can conjecture, that you do not run in the Nigerian circle too much, so I wonder how you have been able to run into so many Married Nigerian men, does it mean that you dont attend parties where there are more single Nigerian Guys, or do you delibrately go to places where there are more mrried men.
There are men who cheat in every group, why is it that when things happen in the Nigerian community it is all of a sudden a good reason to stigmatize all Nigerians. All the other races commit crimes but once it is a Nigerian we are all labelled as criminals. The unfortunate thing about this situation is that the victims have also began to perpetrate that myth on themselves, that once one of us is guilty all of us are guilty.
For Your Info, I do not condone the infidelity, however, it happens in every group, you should have complained about men's infidelity and not just Nigerian men's infidelity.
As for your other complaints about us feeling superrior or" holier than thou", I do not see anything wrong with any race feeling good about itself as long as it does not put other races down. Personally, I do not think that Nigerians are any better than any other group, there are good ones amongst us and also some bad ones amongst us, just as in other groups. The thing with stereotypes is if you accept a positive one, then you can not come back and reject a negative one.

All the ideas here are xellent, but the get rich quick mentality and epileptic power supply in Niaja, remains an albatross on our development, but as for the potential, we have it.

General price rise imminent on stock market
26 March, 2008 12:00:00 GODFREY OBIOMA and EZE NWOSU
Font size:
In spite of the bearish trading, some stocks have exceeded their highest prices in 12 month into the year, while a larger number are heading to this mark. A study by Afrinvest West Africa shows that already most of the stocks have far exceeded their lowest prices for one year, suggesting that these stocks have the capacity for price rally and attainment of new heights in coming months.
According to Afrinvest study of the market for two weeks, February 29, to March 14, 2008, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, Cappa and Dalberto, Costain West Africa, CAP, Seven Up, Unilever, African Petroleum, Eterna Oil, Staco Insurance have already hit 100 percent of their one high.At the verge of achieving the same mark are GTBank 91 percent; Intercontinental Bank 98 percent; Access Bank 97 percent ; Skye Bank 95 percent, UAC Property 97 percent; Julius Berger 94 percent; May and Baker 6728 percent; Neimeth International; Chevron, 97 percent. Others are WAPIC Insurance 93 percent; R.T Briscoe 93 percent ; Union Homes 83 percent, Japaul Oil 99 percent and Vita Foam 93 percent.
Those that have exceeded their one year lowest price are Cappa and D’Alberto, by 1101 percent; Costain 2212 percent, May and Baker 6726 percent; Berger Paints, 445 percent; UTC 357 percent; African Petroleum 528 percent; Eterna Oil 461 percent; Oado 356 percent.
Analysts say if the various quarterly results of companies are good, prices would rally. Results already turned in by most companies appear impressive as earnings are on the rise. Also expected to drive stock prices is the rising liquidity in the economy occasioned by increase in money supply, draw- down from budget expenditure provisions and the influx of foreign capital.
The study by Afrinvest revealed that in spite of the general price fall, some companies during the two week’s period still recorded increases in prices. These are Costain which appreciated 62.77 percent; AG Leventis 32.02 percent.
Meanwhile , an investment analysts, Awoyemi Olufemi, managing director of Proshare Limited has given tips on how to select most viable stocks.
Speaking with BusinessDay in Lagos, Awoyemi, stated that what should be of basic importance to an investor is the sectoral performance of the market. According to him, the performance trend of sector will determine how an investment in a particular stock in that particular sector would perform overtime.
The financial analyst spoke during a workshop organized on stock investment in Lagos by Proshare Limited.
