I returned to Lagos in 2008 and it is a nightmare compared to where I came from.

I wonder if the state governor uses the roads in Bariga and Gbagada?

Even the streets in Ikoyi and on Victoria Island (VI) look like those in war zones. The roads are just too bad for vehicles and only good for donkeys.
And Ikoyi and VI stink, because of the terrible drainages.

The only road repairs I have seen so far are on few major roads while the streets off these roads are doing collateral damage to vehicles.

the topic is far from objective and i doubt the intent of the OP.

Firstly, how many cities were surveyed and how many cities exists in the world in total.
Most definately not only 140 cities exist in the world.
And for those talking about Abuja and PH, were they included in the report at all?

If Dangote is ranked 90 something richest man in the world out of the Millions of rich people existing would you say the guy no try at all?

For lagos to even be ranked shows its amongst the best.

The report only show one thing, " there is still so much work to be done in Lagos". The handlers of Lagos should know this and focus of ways to improve the lot of the city dwellers. To those mentioning Abuja, PH etc, so sorry for you now. Lagos remains the only international city in Nigeria. Federal Government must stop closing her eyes to Lagos. it will always remain a fair basis of assessment of our nation by anyone across the world.

The stinking drainage at VI and Ikoyi, the supposed exclusive neighborhood of the city is appalling.  Fashola should come out with a developmental blueprint for Lagos. Otherwise, after his eight years, he will comeback to notice that he left out fundamental aspects of the people's need that were easily achievable.

How have you come about that assessment? An UNHABITAT report a few years ago categorised Abuja and perhaps Lagos as the only two "cities" capable of being called cities in Nigeria. And its absolutely right. Almost all other cities in Nigeria are just rapidly expanding slums! Absolutely no planning whatsoever! The best residential areas in Ibadan for eg are those developed by the colonial masters eg iyanganku, ring road, jericho etc. The last well developed estate in Ibadan is New Bodija which was was planned in the late 70's. Beyond that, there is nothing worthy of being called a well planned estate in Ibadan. Ibadan is even better because the rate of growth is not as severe. Lagos, Aba, Onitsha, PH etc have been utterly degraded. Ph doesn't even have a well established residential estate or middle class area. Other than the GRA's (which have all been commercialised anyway) the middle class live in the midst of run down houses.

if only you read my post very well. I never condemned the survey nor did I say its false.
I only pointed to the fact that being the last name on Forbes list shows you are a big boy.
another exampl is the ranking of nigerian universities of which only unilorin was ranked amongst the best 200. Which shows that it is the best amongst its peers in Nigeria.
note also i asked(because I didn't know) if abuja or any other nigerian city was ranked. If not it means they are not even amongst the top 140. And only God knows what their number is.

I admire the political leadership of foreign countries. Having enough PRIDE in their country's looks to invest resources into it.
In naija all the politicians just want to enter, chop, clean-mouth and waka. So even small road in lagos, one of their prime cities, they cannot maintain.

For most foreigners visiting Naija, the first sight they are slapped with is Lagos. So they should seriously have thoroughly pimped up that place by now, even if they decide to bone the other remote places.
God save us from shameless leaders and departments of state.

We need structure in that place.

in my opinion, i do not think lagos is the worst city in nigeria.
abuja is beautiful but have you been to areas outside of the municipality?
have you ever been to gwagwalada and other parts?
there is nothing so spectacular about abuja
in terms of sports and recreational facilities abuja does not measure up to lagos at all
we have only one of such centers in abuja  the national stadium. how many poeple have access to it. but in lagos, there are good  recreational centers in almost each of the local govt areas which people have access to.
when it comes to education, in lagos students are given text books we can not say the same for abuja. the staffs in lagos public schools are more active in lagos than in abuja
i have been to the two places so i know
when it comes to security, in lagos we dont see bomb blast but we do see in abuja
in abuja house rent is not affordable at all for the ordianry people
if abuja is more livable why are people still streaming down to lagos even though
its been long the fct was taken from lagos
i can go on and on but let me stop here.

Does it make it the 4th worst city to live in this world? Absolutely NO! Interpret properly pls

Lagos…. Hmmm…Lagos!!! What a waste of land mass, waterways and resources.

To say the least, it is surprising that it is not the worst city in the World. It is a failure on all fronts;
- Security
- Transportation
- Education
- Industry
- Socials etc

What amazes is that most inhabitants are in denial of the dire need to have a real transformation in this city. It is why they support a political system dominated by Godfathers and the smooth talking representative (Governor) of this corrupt and inefficient cabal.

Have you wondered why no sitting Lagos Governor is ever seen as non-performing? The absolute lack of awareness in this place is terrible and candidly criminal.

Lagos needs roads, trains, water transportation, housing, planning, schools, sewage distribution and everything else that humans require to survive.

Today it is an apology to itself and the world. To see some of the inhabitants gloat in a certain “superiority complex’’ is appalling and indicates that a real reformation of the mind is urgently required.

As for me its a big fact lie, then y on earth would white people of this 1st, 2nd and 3rd ranked country come down here to work and live?

Metropolitan Calabar which is the place that people are shouting is beautiful is nothing more than the size of Ikeja, In terms of GDP, I would compare it to Ikeja and at that it is much smaller. However, having said that if you want to live the relaxed, Aje butter and pampered life. Calabar is the place to be, even government buildings are well maintained there. I have a feeling I will be going there sometime in the future.

N.B: The other parts of Cross River which form about 90% of land mass and pehaps 70% of the population leave a rural life. To paint the picture for you, consider this: a bus leaving Lagos for Ilorin would get there before a bus leaving Calabar would get to Ogoja within the same Cross River State!

Lagos benefits from the mayhem that you see on its roads on a daily basis. Reforming and re-structuring it means that a large part of its population will have to be pushed into Ogun state and that is happening already.

May be invasion might be what Libya needs at this time, rude-boy Ghaddafi does not seem to know that the gig is up, the people he has impoverished and imprisoned for 40 yrs have awoken from their collective slumber and inertia and proclaimed that they are mad as hail and are not going to take it any more. Everyone complains about US imperialism but no one wants to step in and help these people who are putting their life in line for freedom, whether it is in middle east, Africa or  Asia, US remain the last hope of the oppressed, sometimes they make a mistake, and screw up, but most of the times they get it right.

Are you kidding me, This is not about an uprising, you are watching westernized media, They said the same thing about Afghanistan, they told the world they had weapons of Mass destruction but alas where is it ?It took them 2weeks to take over the country,as Chris rock said its impossible to take over Baltimore city in 1month, they have killed more civilians than Saddam ever did, One thing you should ask yourself is Has any country ever benefited from US invasions? They are willing to fight wars for other countries when they can't even provide free health care for their citizens. I am not saying ghadaffi is right but the US cannot be trusted!! it could be our precious naija oneday when they can't find oil any where else,

And in regards to media , You should remember the media and government kiss each other asses, Zimbambwe is rated worse coz of Mugabe is taking back the land the westerners stole with fake treaties and murder
