"Everybody wants to be a Bodybuilder but nobody wants to lift no heavy ass weight" If you ask me I would say that’s the perfect quote, as it’s applicable to anything and everything immense people set out to achieve. Whether learning a foreign language, body building, breaking a habit, learning a musical instrument etc. It is a strange phenomenon that most people want things so badly but are reluctant to go extra miles when the need arises to get what they want. They want things the easy way, with little or no stress at all. Everybody wants something, but nobody wants to lift a heavy weight. I wonder what ever happened to the saying, Life is not a bed of roses. Ever since Nigerians realized the likes of Linda Ikeji, Uche Eze, Noble Igwe, Jide Ogunsanya, Seun Osewa, Makinde Azeez… had not just earned a living for themselves, but had earned millions from blogging and generating online content, a staggering number of them(Nigerians) stormed the online industry, overcrowding the blogosphere with the aim of making as much money as their predecessors. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s a bad thing for Nigerians to venture into new territories, all I’m up against is launching a career in the online industry with the mindset that success would come overnight. It’s a common thing nowadays to encounter newbie writers/bloggers lament on the poor reception their craft and blog has been getting. Here is a perfect example of one of such: “I’ve started on my email list, and a few blog posts, worked on an e-book that’s not yet been posted, but I don’t feel like I’m getting anywhere. I don’t have any audience or visits either. I share them on my Facebook, Twitter, but it doesn’t seem to come with a response.” Come to think of it, the above extract is a perfect description of how most newbie bloggers think, they expect immediate success. You claim to have completed “a few blog posts” and worked on an e-book that isn’t published yet, and you’re surprised you’re not experiencing success or getting good reviews ![]() A small piece of advice if you fall under such category: Try scribbling a substantial amount of blog posts first, then see if you’ve gotten anywhere. It takes a lot of work to win the heart of people over with your writing craft. Out of the million of blogs out there Why should anyone pay attention to yours, especially when you’ve only put little effort into it and probably haven’t perfected your writing craft? The world is full of bloggers and writers and it takes something special to stand out and grow a devote audience. Here’s what Corbett Barr of fizzle.co had to say, in a bid to encourage newbie writers: “On several occasions I’ve been made to explain how we built a dedicated fan base of hundreds of thousands of readers. “We sure applied strategies and tactics to achieve such feat. “But above all, we were able to achieve our success as a result of consistency: We just showed up every week, for years, even when no one cared to read our works. We’ve published well over 500 blog posts over the past five years. And the audience grew, little-by-little.” It sure is demoralizing to churn out content week after week only to have no one pay attention to it. I know that feel. But everyone starts at that point. Those who are successful press on and go on publishing contents even when no one cares to read. You keep writing until you find your voice and until you figure out how to write things that are worthy of an audience. If you still feel like you are not making progress after years of hard work, then try something different. And if that doesn’t also work try putting extra effort. But always have it at the back of your mind that you have no control whatsoever of when the results will come. It’s different for everybody, so don’t look for results after a few visits to the gym. In conclusion, the next time you feel like you aren’t making any progress, or like no one is listening, consider the ponderosity of what you’re lifting. Are you perspirating? Are you exhausted at the end of every day? Are you adding more and more kilos every week? That’s how you measure progress when no one cares to listen: by the magnitude of the work you’re doing, the boundaries you’re expanding, and the trials you’re learning from. In today’s world the internet has unarguably become a force to reckon with. The role the internet plays in our lives cannot be overemphasized. The internet is everything to most of us, and a great many of us can’t imagine spending an entire day outside the web. That said, the internet has not just become a place where people go to get information, it has also become a hub for making money. If you have the right skills. We trust you have a favorite blog you enjoy visiting for it’s great and informative contents, or an online publication you have saved under your browser’s favorites. Since society relies heavily on information, writers and bloggers can capitalize on that clause to earn a living for themselves by writing articles and creating informative online contents. At the present, writers and online content developers are in high demand by online media houses, blogs and even the world of Academia. Which elucidates the goldmine status of online writing. Some Nigerian Freelance Writers have been reported to earn as much as $1000 US dollars a month alone from just writing. That’s not to say such achievements came easy anyway. To excel as an online writer one must first of all be an exceptional writer. You’ll agree with us that no media house or writing agency would want to hire or retain you if you’ve got no good writing skill. Yes you are a writer, but that’s not gonna be enough for you, you’ve got to be a writer’s writer. What we mean by that is, you’ve got to be so good a writer other writers would have no other choice but to look up to and respect. Self promotion is another factor that shouldn’t be overlooked. Infact it plays such a vital role in landing the gig and excelling in online writing. Create a digital portfolio of your work and begin marketing yourself properly through social media. If you don’t believe your skills and offering are up-to-par or better than your competitors out there, why will other companies? Freelance online writing and blogging isn’t all that easy a career path but by using resources that are right at your fingertips (websites like E-Lance, Fiverr, Freelancer and Coloured Scribes that helps people find writing gigs), and self-promotion, you will get more bites on the hook. Always have in mind that if you believe in yourself and your work, others will too! Wishing you good success in your Writing Career. Good day nairalanders my name is Luke Anyanwu, but I go by the stage name "AFRIKHANA." I'm a graduate of computer science who has a flair for music. As a music artist I'm talented and good in the art. I've dropped a number of singles, but I won't be able to drop links to all of my singles. I'll just drop a link to one of my Golden singles. https://www.viviangist.com/afrikhana-fantastically-corrupt-mp3-download The major reason behind me creating this thread is not to promote myself or my song, but it's basically to cry out for help to anyone who's buoyant enough to sponsor my career or who's interested in working with an exceptional music artist as myself. I'm certain that after downloading and listening to my song you'll be either be convinced of my uniquenesss or not. At this point I'll drop my number incase anyone wants to reach me outside Nairaland: 07061187199 Thank y'all for reading through. |

Billboard magazine is an entertainment media brand owned by The Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group. It publishes news, video, opinion, reviews, events and style. It is known for music charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200, tracking the most popular songs and albums in different genres. Here’s what the magazine wrote about Tekno Miles: “Tekno already has a number of hits in Nigeria, and Columbia Records took note, throwing its weight behind this agile, elastic-voiced singer. Tekno’s ‘Pana,’ which has already accumulated more than 13 million views on YouTube and inspired a minor version of a video challenge, is romantic and light on its feet with little more than a nagging guitar line and squirts of bass, everything pegged to a serpentine forward march. There’s clearly a demand in the mainstream for feathery dance cuts like this one: close your eyes and imagine a smart radio programmer cueing this up after Drake ‘s “Too Good.” Others on the list include Kehlani, Aminé, YFN Lucci, Leela James, Kodie Shane, Princess Nokia, Guordan Banks, Khalid, H.E.R. While majority of us can only daydream what it’s like to have someone like Beyoncé as our boss, those who have worked with her this year are happy to fill us in how working for the performer definitely has its perks. As reported, the superstar singer gave her staff their holiday presents a bit early, likely knowing she was going to be well in the running for best boss of all time, let alone 2016. As posted on Instagram, one of her “Formation” dancers revealed that Queen Bey gave each on her squad new iPad Pros for Christmas. Tweets from discontent Nigerians as regards The Headies Award Source: https://blarckbillboard./2016/12/23/evaluating-the-headies-award-2/
|
The Headies Award may hold the spot of being the most prestigious Music Award ceremony in Nigeria, but that’s not to say it’s without flaws. The Nigerian music industry is where it is today because moulders of the industry like Ayo Animashaun and his band of biased industry experts continually promote a certain set of music artists and a certain form of music during every award ceremony. The list of winners of this year’s Headies Award only went on to prove what music critics always suspected within the music industry, foul play. I mean why should Darey Art Alade’s “Pray for me” win in the categories it was nominated for? A category where it had such fierce contenders as… That’s just one by the way, there are so so many other weird winnings as such. Now that The Headies is dead, I wish someone passionate about music and has the fund would be courageous enough to stand up and set up a proper prestigious music award ceremony in Nigeria. The Headies Award is total crap, has run its full course and should now be placed on the backburner. If you really are passionate about music and have the fund to build a better prestigious award ceremony, now is a golden opportunity for you and your team. I'm certain you have the support of a whole lot of Nigerians. Source: https://blarckbillboard./2016/12/23/evaluating-the-headies-award-2/

Grammy Award winning music artist The Weeknd, finally released his new album Starboy unto the world last Friday during the holiday weekend. The ultra-retro record features collaborations from Daft Punk, Lana Del Rey and Kendrick Lamar, and was accompanied by a string of flashy music videos. Which is quite plausible. But was it worth the wait? The reviews are in and they don’t seem to be good, there’s no hiding from the critics. Read below to see how Starboy has fared in the music world: “Initially, there were signs that Starboy would represent a much-needed pivot, a rethinking of a sound and image that seemed to have run its course… however, [the album] is hardly a dramatic reinvention–if anything, it feels like a watered-down retread of the same old tropes.” — Mehan Jayasuriya, Pitchfork “By the time its first three songs are over, Tesfaye’s aspirations for the album are clear. It’s hard to imagine that opening sequence being any more stuffed with hooks. By then, there’s no reason to expect much subtlety from the rest of the album.” — Michael Madden, Consequence of Sound “Maybe it pays to rest on his laurels. But for longtime fans that believe The Weeknd is one of the major R&B artists of the decade, Starboy will ultimately seem like a disappointment.” — Mosi Reeves, Rolling Stone “At a gluttonous 18 tracks, his latest full-length oscillates between songs parents would feel okay about their kids listening to and ones they wouldn’t unless they happen to be Ben Affleck, vaping in his car, desperately trying to connect with his children.” — Jordan Sargent, SPIN “Some songs (“Love to Lay,” “Nothing Without You”) have barely any verses at all, largely relying on pre-choruses and choruses. And sometimes the Weeknd sings as if he were rapping — those songs, like “Sidewalks,” are among his most cluttered.” — Jon Caramanica, The New York Times “If the lengthy, 18-track Starboy has downsides, they are those puzzling tracks in which Tesfaye tries to persuade his listenership that he feels genuine emotions for girls when his entire canon attests otherwise.” — Kitty Empire, The Guardian. AVERAGE SCORE: 8/10 Source: https://blarckbillboard./2016/12/01/reviews-on-the-weeknds-new-album-starboy/
