SOUTH EAST HOLDS ECONOMIC AND SECURITY SUMMIT IN OWERRI, IMO STATE.

... collaborating for a secure and prosperous future is a necessity for the Southeast.

Yesterday in Owerri, I attended the 2023 edition of the South-East Security and Economic Summit. Commenting on the event which was also attended by Governors of Imo, Anambra, Enugu and Abia States as well as the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State who represented his governor and other political leaders of the geopolitical zone, I stressed the need for collaboration and synergy among the South-East states in order to address the security and economic challenges facing the region. I also highlighted the importance of security in attracting investments and promoting economic growth and emphasized the need for the governors and all elected representatives to work together in sharing intelligence, coordinating security operations, and implementing effective strategies to combat crime and insurgency in the region.

I also reiterated the need for governors in the region to study the system I invented in Nnewi and environs, and embrace native intelligence in tackling insecurity, and called for the establishment of a regional economic development commission that would coordinate and drive economic initiatives in the South-East. This commission would also facilitate collaboration among the states, attract investments, and promote economic integration within the region.

Furthermore, I discussed the potential of the South-East region in terms of economic development and job creation and urged the governors to prioritize infrastructure development, promote entrepreneurship, and create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. I also emphasized the need for the South-East states to leverage their unique cultural heritage and tourism potentials to attract both local and international investors. I encouraged the governors to invest in tourism infrastructure, promote cultural festivals, and market the region as a tourist destination.

Security of lives and property is essential for economic growth and development. When people feel safe and secure in their homes and communities, they are more likely to invest in businesses, buy homes, and engage in economic activities. This creates a positive cycle of economic growth, as increased investment and consumer spending lead to job creation and higher incomes. It also attracts foreign direct investment, as businesses are more likely to invest in places or regions with stable and secure environments. Security is also crucial for the functioning of critical infrastructure and services. Industries such as transportation, energy, and telecommunications rely on secure systems to operate efficiently and disruption or threat to these systems can have severe economic consequences.

As we work towards creating a peaceful and secure geopolitical zone, ndị Igbo should always work closely with constituted authorities to make the vision a dream come true.

Politics / Senate Resume Plenary, Screens CBN Governor And Deputy Nominees by grassrootsig: 8:37pm On Sep 27, 2023
MY CONTRIBUTION TO YESTERDAY'S SCREENING OF CBN GOVERNOR AND DEPUTY NOMINEES AS THE SENATE RESUMES PLENARY

My Dear Constituents,

The Senate resumed plenary yesterday after a short vacation and during the sitting, I joined my distinguished colleagues to screen Dr Olayemi Cardoso who was nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to serve as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello who were also nominated by the President to serve as Deputy Governors of the Apex Bank.

During the exercise, I reiterated the importance of ensuring that the nominees possess the necessary qualifications, experience, and integrity to effectively carry out their roles in the Central Bank of Nigeria. As a member of the Senate, it is our duty to thoroughly scrutinize and evaluate the nominees to ensure that they are fit for the positions they have been nominated for.

I also emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the selection process. It is crucial that the nominees undergo a rigorous screening process to ensure that they are free from any conflicts of interest. The Central Bank of Nigeria plays a critical role in the country's economy, and it is essential that those appointed to lead it are individuals of high moral character and competence.

Furthermore, I reiterated the need for the Apex Bank to put in measures that will finance resuscitation of existing Refineries and building of Modular Refineries to support fuel subsidy removal and called on the nominees to streamline measures that will curb sabotage of our financial economy and strengthen the Naira.

I also stressed the importance of maintaining the independence of the Central Bank. The Central Bank should be free from political interference and be able to make decisions based on economic considerations and the best interests of the country. It is crucial that the nominees understand and respect the importance of this independence and are committed to upholding it.

Overall, the screening exercise was a necessary step in ensuring that the nominees for the positions in the Central Bank of Nigeria are qualified and capable of effectively carrying out their responsibilities. I am confident that the Presidency will make informed decisions based on the outcome of the screening process, and that the individuals selected will contribute to the growth and stability of Nigeria's economy.

I PROUDLY ATTENDED THE ‘NNEWI DAY’ IN LONDON, CELEBRATING OUR RICH CULTURE AND HERITAGE

Yesterday at Castle Green Leisure Centre, Dagenham, Essex, United Kingdom, I was privileged to be the Special Guest of Honour at the ‘Nnewi Day’ celebration organised by the Nnewi Community Association (NCA) of Great Britain and Ireland. During the event, I had the opportunity to address the attendees and share my experiences as a member of the Nnewi community and as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It was a joyous occasion filled with cultural performances and delicious Nigerian cuisine.

I also spoke about the importance of preserving our cultural heritage and passing it on to future generations, and emphasized the need to sustain the existing unity and collaboration within our community, both in the UK and back home in Nnewi, Nigeria. I also highlighted the achievements and contributions of Nnewi people in various fields, such as business, academia, and the arts. It was inspiring to see the pride and enthusiasm of the attendees as we celebrated our shared identity and accomplishments.

The event provided a platform for further networking and connecting with fellow Nnewi community members. I had the opportunity to meet and engage with individuals who shared similar backgrounds and experiences. It was a reminder of the strength and resilience of Ala Nnewi, even when living far away from our homeland. As a proud member of the Nnewi community, I have witnessed the growth and development of our town over the years. Nnewi is a unique place, and I am proud to call it my home. It is also known for its industrious spirit, entrepreneurial mind-set, and strong sense of unity.

Nnewi has also been a hub of innovation and progress, with numerous successful businesses and industries that have contributed to the economic growth of our nation. From manufacturing to agriculture, the community has shown resilience and determination in the face of challenges. It has proven time and again that it can compete on a global scale.

As a Senator, I have had the privilege of representing the interests of ndị Nnewi and working towards the community’s development. I have witnessed first-hand the struggles and aspirations of our people. I have listened to their concerns, hopes, and dreams, and I have made it my mission to be their voice in the corridors of power. I have also created jobs and advocated for policies that promote entrepreneurship and empower our youth to become the leaders of tomorrow.

Special thanks to the executive of NCA led by Mr Chadwick Okoye for organizing the epic event. I am also grateful to Chief Uche Nwora, Ph.D (Ezeudo Enugwu-Ukwu na Umunri), Prince Onwa Nwafor-Orizu, Chief Onyeka Okelue (Ogidiga/Akaekpuchionwa Enugwu-Agidi) and others that attended the event as special guests.

Overall, the ‘Nnewi Day’ celebration was a memorable and uplifting experience. It reinforced the importance of celebrating our cultural heritage and fostering a sense of belonging within the Nnewi community. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been the Special Guest of Honour and look forward to future events that bring us together as a community.

11/09 FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS

We shall never forget the sad event that occurred at Nkwọ Enugwu-Ukwu on Sunday September 11, 2022. On that day, I was returning from Nnewi Diocesan Synod and as if it was a movie, bullets started raining from all angles and sadly, two of my Aides; Ikechukwu Odum and Goodnews Matthias as well as two of the security personnel attached to me; Inspector David Jimoh and Sergeant Bello Lawan paid the ultimate price. It was a horrifying experience that will forever be etched in our memories. The peaceful atmosphere suddenly turned into chaos and despair. The loss of lives, including my dedicated aides and security personnel, is a tragedy that words cannot fully express.

Odum Ikechukwu and Goodnews Matthias were not just my aides; they were loyal and committed individuals who served with utmost dedication. Their untimely demise is a great loss not only to me but also to their families, friends, and the community they belonged to. Their selflessness and unwavering support will always be remembered. The security personnel who lost their lives while protecting us also deserve our utmost respect and gratitude. They put their lives on the line to ensure our safety, and their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Their families have been left devastated, and our thoughts and prayers go out to them during this difficult time.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the unpredictable nature of the world we live in. It is a reminder that violence can strike at any moment, even in the most unexpected places. We must remain vigilant and united in our efforts to promote peace and security in our communities.

As we mourn the loss of our dear ones, let us also remember to cherish the memories we shared with them. Let us honour their lives by continuing the work they started and striving for a better and safer society. May the souls of Ikechukwu Odum, Goodnews Matthias, Inspector David Jimoh, and Sergeant Bello Lawan rest in eternal peace, and may their families find solace and strength in this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.

TRIBUNAL DISMISSES CHRIS AZUBOGU, OBINNA UZOH AND CHRIS UBA’S PETITIONS, UPHOLDS SENATOR IFEANYI UBAH’S VICTORY.

To God be the glory, yesterday, 6th of September 2023, the Election Tribunal sitting in Awka, Anambra State upheld my victory in the February 25th National Assembly election and dismissed the consolidated petitions of both Chris Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chris Azubogu of All Progressives Alliance (APGA) and Obinna Uzoh of Labor Party (LP).

The Tribunal ruling which dismissed the petition filed by the trio on the basis of lack of merit is an attestation of both the perfect will of God and the irrefutable choice of the good people of Anambra South at the February 25 polls. It also reinforces the confidence our people have in the judiciary; this is a good development for the advancement of democracy in our nation Nigeria as the judiciary has shown it is indeed the last hope for all.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Pride of Anambra South Politics.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Lion of Igbo Nation

CONGRATULATIONS to Ndi Anambra South Senatorial District.

CONGRATULATIONS to Democracy.

DETAILS OF MY VISIT TO ANTWERP CITY OF BELGIUM

Earlier today at Antwerp city of Belgium, I attended the 2023 edition of the Nigerian Arts and Culture Festival organized under the supervision of the Nigerian Ambassador to Belgium H.E Obinna C. Onowu. The Nigerian Arts and Culture Festival was a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria. It provided a platform for Nigerian artists to showcase their talent and for the audience to experience the beauty and diversity of Nigerian arts. The event was a testament to the strong cultural ties between Nigeria and Belgium and highlighted the importance of fostering international relationships.

During the event which I attended with my Senior Special Assistant on Corporate Contacts; Hon Ifeanyi Nwankwo, my Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties; Mr Mcgoshen Onwunzo, My Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs; Chief Ernest Otugo and his wife Mrs Felicity Otugo as well as my Personal Assistant; Mr Chukwuemerie Uduchukwu, I had the opportunity to experience the rich and vibrant Nigerian culture through various art forms, performances, and exhibitions.

The festival also showcased a wide range of Nigerian arts, including traditional music, dance, fashion, visual arts, and literature. The performances were captivating and showcased the diversity and talent of Nigerian artists. From the rhythmic beats of traditional drums to the energetic dance moves, the audience was enthralled by the cultural display. It was fascinating to see the different interpretations of Nigerian culture and history through these artworks. In addition to the performances and exhibitions, there were also literary sessions where Nigerian authors and poets shared their works. It was a great opportunity to listen to their stories and gain insights into Nigerian literature and storytelling traditions.

I will always remain grateful to the Nigerian Ambassador to Belgium H.E Obinna C. Onowu for inviting me to the colourful event. Our culture is our heritage and we shall always engage in quality partnerships that will strengthen it. Also, big thanks to the Nigerian community in Belgium for honouring me with a warm reception. Together, we shall project our norms and values to the world.

TOGETHER WE CAN CREATE A SAFER AND MORE SECURE ENVIRONMENT

In continuation of my efforts to sustain security in Nnewi and other parts of Anambra South Senatorial District, I had another round of meeting with the personnel of Nnewi Vigilante Service on Wednesday August 30, 2023 at the Ifeanyi Ubah International Stadium, Nnewi-Ozubulu. During the meeting, I emphasized the importance of collaboration and synergy between the Nnewi Vigilante Service and other security agencies in the District. I stressed the need for effective intelligence gathering, prompt response to distress calls, and proactive measures to prevent crime.

I also highlighted the significance of community involvement in maintaining security. I encouraged the vigilante personnel to engage with the residents, build trust, and encourage them to report any suspicious activities or individuals. I emphasized the importance of community policing and the role it plays in preventing crime.

Furthermore, I discussed the need for regular training and capacity building for the vigilante personnel. I emphasized the importance of staying updated on the latest security techniques and strategies to effectively combat crime. I assured them of my commitment to supporting them by providing necessary resources.

Additionally, I addressed the issue of welfare for the vigilante personnel and handed over multiple yams to them in the spirit of the Afiaọlụ (New Yam Festival) that was just concluded. I acknowledged their dedication and sacrifice in ensuring the safety of the community especially throughout the festive period and assured them of my commitment to improving their welfare. I promised to explore avenues for financial support and incentives to motivate them in their duties.

Let me again express my gratitude to the Nnewi Vigilante Service and Nnewi Concerned Citizens for their unwavering commitment to maintaining security in the community. Their successful outings motivated me to plan towards extending the security scheme to other parts of Anambra South Senatorial District. I also call on all stakeholders to join us as we work tirelessly to keep our District safe. I will also be available for any meeting that will focus on ways to boost security in various local government areas of our zone. Together, we can create a safer and more secure environment for all residents of our Senatorial District.

*THE POLITICS OF NNEWI SECURITY, AND THE NEED TO SUPPORT SEN IFEANYI UBAH CON AND MEMBERS OF THE NNEWI CONCERNED CITIZEN'S EFFORTS*.

It is a fact that the state of security in Nnewi in particular and Nigeria in general has become unbearable for the entire population. The government at every level had struggled over the couple of years to restore sanity through several means to no avail. The consequences of this ugly trend have destroyed businesses, pushed people to flee Nnewi and Anambra State thereby causing untold damage in our economy. Many lost their lives due to the activities of the men of the underworld. The peace and joy inherent in the wonderful ambiance of Nnewi and environs were completely lost. It became a National discourse with its attendant catastrophic consequences on the general economy of the state and country in general.

The Distinguished Senator (Dr) Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah CON (Ebubechukwu-uzo) in collaboration with Nnewi Concerned Citizens devised a strategy, one of its kind in Nigeria in tackling this huge security problem. His unflinching dedication to the welfare of his people and constituency (Anambra South Senatorial District) is second to none. Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah CON painstakingly financed the new technologically based security surveillance programs that had proved most effective and successful in Nnewi. The crime rate has reduced drastically. His initiative had attracted the applause of security experts from within and outside the State. Many communities, towns and States are understudying this wonderful but costly model, with intention of replicating it for their respective areas. We are proud of the effort of Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah CON. He needs the collective support of the good people of Nnewi to sustain this program.

My wonderful people of Nnewi it’s time to tell ourselves the obvious truth. Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah CON has proven over the time the selflessness in his pursuit for a better Nnewi. He has spent fortune in this regards. Therefore, it’s seriously unfortunate that some cabals have sworn to undermine his efforts by frustrating the source of our collective patrimony which invariably will enhance and sustain this laudable legacy. Nnewi as a town, is not only known as the producer best brains in business but with amiable peaceful King too. The wisdom that radiates in the town is fast losing its effect due to greedy, unrepentant hawks that feed fat from our collective patrimony. They disguise themselves in different forms causing havoc, and are always ready to unleash terror in order to sustain their evil practices. These few that are undermining the wonderful efforts of Sen. Ubah and Nnewi Concerned Citizens should be ashamed of themselves and surrender to good conscience for the good and progress of the town. Evil will never supersede good rather it will take time.

My good people of Nnewi let us not politicize the noble strides of our worthy brother and son towards making Nnewi great again. Lets unite and sustain the security architecture already introduced. Let’s think in earnest about the future of our youths, their welfare, because they are drifting to the point of destruction due to factors we all know. My father says “to educate the mind is to liberate it”, we need the education that will liberate us from the grip of selfish, egoistic few.
