Why I Didn’t Attend Buhari’s Burial – Obi

Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has explained that he was unable to attend the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari due to flight restrictions and limited access to Katsina Airport. Speaking to journalists on Wednesday in Daura after a condolence visit to Buhari’s family, Obi said his efforts to travel on the day of the burial were hampered by air traffic control measures put in place for visiting dignitaries.

“There were no flights yesterday. Even if you had one, you couldn’t land at Katsina Airport. It was all closed because of the many dignitaries,” Obi said. He noted that although he could not attend the funeral service on Tuesday, his visit remained timely and meaningful. “The mourning continues today and tomorrow. Whoever comes now is still part of the mourning,” he added.

Obi emphasized that his presence in Daura was driven by deep respect for the late president, whom he had met during the 2023 campaign. Recalling their interaction, Obi said, “I remember his words to this day: ‘Please care for the poor Nigerians.’ That’s what I always remember.” He commended Buhari’s dedication to the welfare of ordinary citizens, saying, “I believe he did his best within his capacity.”

Reflecting on the significance of the moment, Obi described Buhari’s passing as a solemn reminder of the inevitability of death and the need for public servants to act with humility and service. “We all have to learn how to serve our country, knowing that one day we will be called back by our creator,” he said

The National leader of Labor Party, and Former Governor of Anambra state, Mr Peter Obi has confirmed that he will contest the 2027 Presidential election with every serious intent.

He stated this in Onitsha during the Official Flag Off of Labour Party Campaign for the November 8 2025 Governship election in Anambra state.

According to Mr Obi, he still remains a member of Labour Party and in full support of Chief Dr George Moghalu for the Governorship position in Anambra state for the 2025 election.

According to Obi, he remains a member of the Party even though they are part of the ADC coalition being mold for the 2027 Presidential election in Nigeria.

The Exco members of Idemili North LGA Chapter of Door-2-Door had their first meeting after the burial of late Sen Ifeanyi Ubah on Sunday 18/05/2025 at Opp Freezia Nur/Pri Sch, near Crown garden hotel, Ogidi.

The Coordinator, Hon Izuchukwu Ofoedu, in his opening remarks, thanked God for gathering the entire Executive members together for the meeting.
He equally appreciated his colleagues for making out time to be part of the all important meeting.
Continuing, he stated that after the burial of late Sen Ifeanyi Ubah, the State Working Committe of the Door-2-Door unanimously agreed to continue with the structure's aims and objectives of starting a new era that will enable us to take the Door-2-Door to the next level.

Hon. Izuchukwu urged all and sundry to up their game, more especially in the area of expanding the message of the Door-2-Door to every nook and cranny of Idemili North LGA and its environs.

A conglomeration of all political support groups of Late Senator Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah who spoke under the umbrella name; Ifeanyi Ubah Political Family, has denounced any claims that they had individually or collectively endorsed any of the politicians who has indicated interest to contest in the forthcoming Governorship election in Anambra State.

This declaration was made during a press conference which was held earlier today, February 18, 2025, at Awka, Anambra State. The press statement was signed by the leaders of:-

The recent wave of declarations by various individuals aspiring to replace the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in the Anambra South Senatorial District has sparked a significant discourse, often bordering on ridicule of the esteemed office. While it is natural for political ambitions to arise following the passing of a prominent figure, it is crucial for these aspirants to recognize that the contest for this position transcends the confines of Nnewi, encompassing all seven local government areas within the Senatorial District. This broader perspective is essential for any candidate hoping to resonate with the electorate and secure their support.

The late Senator Ubah was not only a formidable political figure but also a man whose success was underpinned by deep-rooted connections and grassroots support. For any aspirant to genuinely consider stepping into his shoes, they must understand that mere ambition is insufficient. They must be grounded in the realities of local politics and possess the necessary connections to navigate the complex power dynamics that exist both at the grassroots level and among the elite. The late Senator's victory was not merely a product of his hard work; it was also safeguarded by his ability to forge alliances and garner support from influential quarters. Without such connections, any aspirant risks being overwhelmed by the entrenched powers that often seek to manipulate electoral outcomes.

CHIEF DR. GEORGE MOGHALU COMMITS TO NNEWI YOUTH'S WELFARE IN MEMORY OF LATE SENATOR IFEANYI UBAH

Anambra, Nigeria - December 6, 2024

NNEWI - The Immediate Past Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and the Labour Party's frontline Anambra 2025 governorship aspirant Chief Dr. George N. Moghalu (Ohamadike) has reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare and development of Nnewi youths. This move is in memory of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who had a robust relationship with the Nnewi youths.

At the general assembly and end-of-the-year prayer session of Nnewi Youths, held at the Igwe Nnewi palace, Moghalu announced that he would take up the sponsorship of their end-of-year meeting and the annual December Football Competition. These initiatives were previously supported by the late Senator Ubah.

Moghalu described Senator Ubah as a consummate politician who lived and died for the citizens, especially the youth. He led the youths in a minute's silence and prayers in memory of Senator Ubah, acknowledging the significant impact he had on the community.

The Nnewi Youth Forum President, Hon. Ejim Ucheagwu, praised Moghalu for his outstanding contributions to the development of Nnewi community, Anambra state, and Nigeria as a whole. He described Moghalu as an illustrious son of Nnewi, an uncommon asset, and a shining example of discipline and selfless leadership.

Moghalu reassured the youths of his commitment to their welfare and development, stating that he is always available to support them. He encouraged the youths to guard, protect, and preserve the good name and honor of Nnewi, emphasizing the importance of community pride and development.

The event, attended by prominent stakeholders and over 2,000 youths from Nnewi, demonstrated Moghalu's dedication to the community's welfare and his desire to continue the legacy of Senator Ubah.

Sen Ifeanyi Ubah's legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire and guide future generations.

On Friday, I joined fellow Nigerians to bid farewell to our late brother Senator Ifeanyi Patrick Ubah, CON, in Otolo-Nnewi of Anambra State. His passing has indeed left a significant void in Nnewi and Anambra state.

His legacy is a testament to his remarkable life, which extended far beyond his political achievements. He was an astute politician, fine lawmaker, social crusader, successful businessman, humanitarian and a philanthropist.

Senator Ubah's commitment to philanthropy and humanity was evident through his Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation, which provided scholarships, healthcare, and Vital support to the less privileged. His legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire and guide future generations.

Once again, I offer my heartfelt condolences to Senator Ubah's family and loved ones. May God grant them the strength and solace to bear this loss, and may senator Ifeanyi Ubah's gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
