PoliticsRe: Two Nigerian Professors Selected For British Academy’s Global Award by gratefulheart(m): 10:16pm On Apr 13, 2024
Yoruba and Hausa why is British academy promoting tribalism?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

AmazingGenius:
Olutayo Adesina, professor of history at the University of Ibadan, and Abubakar Sani, former head of department at the archaeology and heritage studies at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), have been selected for the 2023 British academy global professorship.

Both lecturers were among the eight professors selected to undertake research on a range of issues, including food system models to resolve climate issues and exploration of West African communities’ history through museum collections.

Other selected scholars were Tetyana Antsupova, Paul Behrens, Sandrine Berges, Karine Chemla, Saloumeh Gholami and Ayelet Landau.

The professorship is a large investigator-led award to attract internationally recognised established scholars to work in the United Kingdom and to undertake cutting-edge research projects in diverse but relevant areas of interests.

Adesina, who doubles as president of the Society of Nigerian Archivists, would focus his research on the “interplay of nationalist historiography, academic social science, and vernacular knowledge as mutually constitutive social epistemologies.”

He would also investigate to what extent the work of academic historians and social scientists at the University of Ibadan was shaped by indigenous, vernacular epistemologies.

On his part, Sani, a deputy director at the ABU Zaria Institute for Development Research and Training, aims at a project that combines archaeology, museum practice and stakeholder engagement to study large and under-researched collections from key Nigerian sites.

He said the research would draw on archaeological, ethnographic and archival data held in British and Nigerian museums and hoped that it would bring “new understandings of African history, and of UK/Nigerian research histories, through academic outputs, online resources, exhibitions and outreach in the UK and Nigeria.”

According to the British academy, the awards are expected to run for four years and selected awardees will each be provided with £900,000 for the execution of their respective projects.

2031 is the turn of the North. Na turn by turn.
Wike is not destroying PDP but Atiku, and his fake followers when the north contested for presidency and also manipulated the PDP primary in 2023 against the South. This is just to help them to achieve their aim.

Do me first, no be crime?

Wainey:
Wike has killed himself politically.

APC will help him in destroying PDP, and when 2031 election comes, he won't have any platform to become president.
PDP might merge with other parties and that is the end of Solomon Wike
PoliticsRe: CBN Sacks Another 40 Staff by gratefulheart(m): 9:12pm On Apr 08, 2024
Development financial initiative was a big scam and CBN need to dig deeper.

emkz:
I think this is selective.

Because CBN is shifting from that development financial initiative which led to CBN disbursing loans to farmers does not mean there are no dead woods elsewhere.

CBN must carry out a comprehensive personnel audit. CBN recruitment has mostly been political and nepotistic over the years where the children of the high and the mighty get preference. We even heard that these children's job functions are mostly planning their vacations. Some of the retiring CBN staff seemingly bring their children to the employ of CBN. If this is a lie, when last did CBN do an open recruitment?

CBN cannot deny recruitment because that agency is overstaffed.

Dr Yemi Cardoso, we are in support of your initiatives. We want them to be more brutal. Please clean the CBN.

Some state Governors are criminals.
Why that guy carried 3bags while some people didn't get any...that's greediness, he will do pass those politicians if e get opportunity 😃

ManirBK:
There is massive looting of palliatives grains and other stuff just now in Birnin kebbi Kara Market. The remaining palliatives grains means for peaple were diverted or sold to Marketers in Birnin kebbi.

The shops in Kara Market where the palliatives were hide and kept were attacked by some angry youth with looters making away with foodstuffs and other items.

Armed policemen on guard duty at the market fired gunshots in the air and chased away the youth. For me, the officials that diverted the palliatives should be arrested and prosecuted

PoliticsRe: Why Peter Obi Should Not Run In 2027 by gratefulheart(m): 12:13pm On Mar 28, 2024
Bitter Peter Obi can NEVER be president.

gidgiddy:
I have known Peter Obi a long time, his village is just a stonethrow from mine. As a successful international businessman and billionaire, he returned from the UK in 2002 to aspire to be Governor of Anambra, which he did after a lengthy legal battle. Its not everything Obi did as Governor of Anambra that I'm happy with, but most Anambrarians will tell you he left the State much better than he met it. As 2027 approaches, no doubt Peter Obi will be under pressure to run again for President. If I were him, I won't run, for three reasons

1. 2027 has already been rigged. Let Obi learn from not just the last Presidential elections he ran in, but from subsequent elections in Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa, where elections were rigged with impunity. The by-elections were even worse. The 2027 elections will be brazenly rigged, and Peter Obi will be told to "go to court". Obi should also remember that he will be running against an incumbent who believes in "grabbing power and running with", and has state resources at his disposal. So Peter Obi should spare himself the trouble over elections that the results have already been written

2. Even if Peter Obi manages to navigate the treacherous waters of Nigerian politics and wins, his troubles will just be starting. Obi does not know the Nigeria he wants to be President of, he does not know that 'one Nigeria' does not exist, and that some people will always see him as nothing more than an Igbo man and Christian. Those people are going to going to use propaganda, deciet, lies, insecurity etc to sabotage his regime from day one. No matter how well intentioned Obi might be, every move he makes will be turned into an ethnic, religious or ideological issue. Those who cannot bear an Igbo man being President will come after his regime like a hurricane. The result is that Obi will spend 4 years there fighting, if he is not thrown out before then, and achieve nothing.

3. Obi once said that Nigeria is like a car with a knocked engine, he was right. No matter how good a driver may be, he won't get far in a car with a knocked engine. Has Obi ever heard of a 'good Nigerian President'? No such thing has ever existed, or will ever exist. The driver is only as good as the engine of the car. No Nigerian President can do well. We are too divided along ethnic, religious and ideological lines to build a progressive nation. Everyone only talks about who will be the driver, few care about the engine, yet expect the car to take them to heaven. Who is fooling who? Some people like me advocate that we forget the driver, the engine and the car, disembark, and go our seperate ways. Some say no

My advice to Obi is to forget this cursed office of President and focus on his philanthropy. Obi will touch more lives and help more people this way. Until a time when people start taking the engine far more seriously than they take who will be the driver, the office of President will destroy whoever goes in there, and Obi should stay away from it.

My 2 cents
PoliticsRe: Tinubu, Beware Of Nyesom Wike By Richard Akinnola by gratefulheart(m): 12:09pm On Mar 28, 2024
Enemies of progress...

hisexcellency34:
By Richard Akinnola

Impetuous, garrulous, flippant, compulsively and deliriously narcissistic, that succinctly encapsulates the Nyesom Wike persona. A study of the political trajectory of the FCT Minister shows that he is only loyal to himself and nobody else, irrespective of his feigned allegiance. He may kowtow and genuflect before a political leader, as he is currently doing in Abuja but once he can no longer use you, he goes into a fit of incoherent vituperative verbal assault, denigrating his benefactors.

I watched his recent drama on Channels where he was reeling out his achievements as Governor, he said he built a Cancer Centre and named it after “one man”. He also built a Judicial institute and named it after “one woman”. (Pejoratively referring to Dr Peter Odili and his wife, Justice Mary Odili). His former political leader who he had praised to high heavens is now “one man”. How come his long time political associates suddenly turn enemies? -Rotimi Amaechi, Abiye Sekibo, Celestine Omehia, Austin Opara, Lee Meeba, and now, Dr Peter Odili, among others.

Almost everything that Wike had said in public have been repudiated by him. From the PDP primaries where he vowed to support whosoever emerged as candidate, to his vow not to be minister, to his scathing excoriation of the APC which he likened to a cancerous party, everything Wike supposedly stood for have been repudiated by his fickle mindedness.

Now, he is dancing around PBAT, like an urchin singing nursery rhyme, in his guttural and hoarse voice:“President Tinubu, on your mandate l shall stand”. President Tinubu, Wike is not standing on any mandate. He is standing on his opportunistic position as a minister. Remove him as minister and see if he would still be standing on your mandate.Tomorrow, before the cock crows at night, he would deny you if he is removed as minister and would start lamenting how he supposedly helped you but was used and discarded.

Here was a man who publicly said that Odili saved his political career as Chairman of Obio Akpor local government, leading to his rise in political ascendancy and he used every opportunity to praise and honour Odili and his wife. He followed this up with a public declaration where he was almost swearing thus: “I don’t know the day l would die but l know l would die one day but the truth must be told, any day that l would make Dr Odili and his family cry, may God allow me to go…I would never be alive to make you cry. I will never abandon you and your wife. Where would l have been but for you and your wife? Who am l? From where? My wife would not have been a Magistrate, talk less a Judge but for Mrs Odili. Nobody in this country can make me abandon you and your family. Never. ...My wife and l are forever grateful to you for the roles you played in my life”.

This was shown live on CHANNELS. Today, what is Wike doing to the same Odili? Publicly dissing and ridiculing him on same CHANNELS just because Dr Odili refused to queue behind him to decapitate Governor Sim Fubara. As an elder statesman, Odili rather preferred to settle the differences between the duo, which Wike refused. That is Odili’s sin to attract Wike’s “Fatwa”.

He would do same thing to President Tinubu tomorrow if the president does not align with his interest. He doesn’t even understand the dynamics of larger politics to the fact that Odili and PBAT have a long-standing relationship being in the same class of 1999 Governors and that Odili doesn’t even have issues with PBAT. You cannot praise a man to high heavens for eight years in your fit of sycophancy, only to start publicly disrobing him just because he refused to be led by the nose in your ill-conceived political fight with your successor. What that means is that tomorrow, he’ll do same thing to president Tinubu if he doesn’t do his political bidding in Rivers state. That would amount to political self-immolation.
So, if everyone who has assisted you in your political ascendancy are bad, then, something definitely must be wrong with you.
Despite his accomplishments as Governor in terms of project execution which l acknowledge, there is no doubt, Wike has a serious character flaw that only him can cure. But trust me, despite his wealth and “power”, it’s a matter of time, this young man is on his way to political perdition. I pray he doesn’t end that way. Minister Wike, you are an achiever in terms of performance but l pray God grants you wisdom on how to navigate and relate with people who differ from you politically.
