https://punch.cdn.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Sultan-of-Sokoto-Alhaji-Muhammad-Abubakar-III-360x225.jpg

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has said that the Boko Haram sect has no doctrine that resembles that of true Muslims.

Abubakar, who is the President-General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, made the clarification at the formal opening of the annual Islamic Vacation Course, organised by the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Southern Zone, which was held at Kilometer 53, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Sultan said, “We have said it times without number that any act that breeds violence like the one being exhibited by Boko-Haram has no basis in Islam.

“As you are aware, our religion, Islam stands for peace as its name denotes. So let us remain peaceful always, so that we may live a peaceful life here and be accommodated in the home of peace in the life to come.”

In a keynote address, the national president of MSSN, Sirajudeen Abd-Azeez, urged the Federal Government to find a lasting solution to the problem of insurgency which continues to threaten the unity of the country.

He said, “This great and giant nation is on the verge of collapse. It is no more a selling news that terrorism is on the rampage taking over our lands on a daily basis. We want to reiterate that Mr. President should address the nation on why the country is under the terrorists’ siege.

“Why have the insurgents continued to beat the nation’s military arsenals despite the billions of dollars voted for security? Why have the terrorists become stronger even after a year when some states in the North- East have come under partial emergency rule?”

Politics › APC Not Keen On National Development – Jonathan’s Campaign Council by gratiaeo(op): 6:39am On Dec 26, 2014
Deputy National Director General of Jonathan’s Campaign Council (South) and former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has described the comments by the Director General of Buhari Campaign Organisation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, as not showing enough evidence of genuine concern about the future of the nation.

He also said several statements credited to Amaechi and prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were misleading and capable of inciting the people to disturb public peace.

In a statement made available to newsmen, Obi, who was reacting to statements recently credited to Amaechi, that the Federal Government was treating the insurgency in the North with levity, pointed out that General Mohammadu Buhari, as an elder statesman with full access to the president, would have stepped forward with ideas on security, if he had any.

He disagreed with Amaechi’s claim that Buhari had the magic wands to end insurgency, observing that the general was being presented as an unpatriotic Nigerian who was not moved by anything except the desire to get into office and be seen as a messiah.

He wondered if patriotic Nigerians should wait for political powers before saving their country.

He warned that certain things should be seen beyond the realm of politics for the good of the country.

Obi, who recounted the efforts of Mr. President towards solving the Boko Haram menace said: “Who in this country is not aware of many bilateral meetings Jonathan had been holding with neighbouring countries to stop insurgency? Who is not aware of the invitation to even foreigners in search of solution to the menace?”

On the accusation of corruption, Obi said it was a global problem that was not peculiar to the PDP. He said everybody heard the report of how naira and dollars exchanged hands during APC conventions. He said Jonathan recognized the problem of corruption and was building institutions to stop it. Using fertilizer distribution as an example, Obi said due to institutional measures put in place, corruption in that area had been reduced by over 90 per cent.

That few Yoruba and other tribes got caught in the mess doesn't mean they were targeted, they were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Ibos are the real and only target for the daggars this time, and will be taken care of accordingly. Ibos can't say "toro". It was used in the past and can still be used to know who is ibo.

When you plant a bomb in someone else's town, you will surely get what's coming to you. Ibos must be cut to size and restricted to their evil forest.

Where did we go wrong for ibos to call Yoruba out? Ibos of all peoples, the natural slaves. Economic refugees and pests who have no sense of belonging.
This time, not a single ibo should be allowed among humans. All ibos should be wiped out, and the shaky niger bridge pulled down so no ibo will be able to cross back into the west and north they hate so much but can't stay away from let their kind remain in their land.

Politics › Tips To Staying Safe Online This Festive Season by gratiaeo(op): 7:37pm On Dec 25, 2014
By Rotimi Akinyemi
The holiday season is upon us and as always, we all are scrambling to get the best deals online and in stores. However, a few wrong clicks this season could land cybercriminals topping your list of people who will be receiving presents this year.
This year has witnessed lots of significant breaches ranging from a $40m cyber-heist by a Nigerian bank IT worker to the huge data leakage at Sony, just about a week ago.
Information Security expert, Rotimi Akinyele of PhynxLabs said online users can easily put themselves and their devices at risk, unless they take precautions and avoid the common mistakes highlighted below that could compromise their security.
Beware of the Bank Verification Number (BVN) Scam
The ongoing Bank Verification Number (BVN) introduced by the CBN as a means of uniquely identifying bank customers across the Nigerian Banking industry has provided a fertile ground for cyber criminals to defraud unsuspecting bank customers.
Scam emails purportedly sent from Banks/CBN are in circulation urging bank customers to visit a website to activate their BVN online as failure to do so would result in their account(s) and debit cards being deactivated.
Please note that BVN registration can only be done physically at a bank’s branch. There is no technology now to replace the physical capture of your biometric data which the BVN seeks to achieve.
Do NOT access your accounts from Public WIFi
Just because a WiFi is free doesn’t mean you should connect to it any time it’s available. When you’re banking or making other online payments, it’s better to connect with EDGE or 3G, even if it’s slower. It might only be 45seconds of doing an online bank transaction, but if the wireless network has been compromised, that is more than enough time needed for a cyber-criminal to collect your data.
Use a secure password
It’s crucial to always use strong passwords as passwords are the first line of defense against cyber crooks. Try not to use names of your family, pets, first car, mother’s maiden name, etc. as all these can be easily guessed, brute forced or even available on social media sites like facebook, twitter or instagram. Make sure to use a mixture of characters, numbers, and letters of at least 8 characters when choosing your password; as only this will add a high level of difficulty for any attempted password theft.
Also, do not reuse your passwords as a compromise on one would translate to a compromise on all.
Stay safe on social networking sites
Social media sites are increasingly becoming targets for spams, scams and other online attacks. Asides mining data from tons of “status updates” for targeted attacks, cyber criminals have mastered the act of baiting unsuspecting users with well-crafted short but compelling posts offering free entry to a Christmas competition with a fantastic prize. The general rule is “there is no free lunch or freebies on the internet – if you’re not buying a product then you are the product”. Users who click the links then inadvertently act as accomplices to the cyber-criminals because the malicious scripts would automatically re-post the links, images or videos on their contacts’ walls or timelines. If an offer looks too good to be true, it probably is. Do NOT click.
Protect yourself from fraudulent emails
If you receive an email urging you to download an unknown tax payment attachment or an email informing you of an urgent pending transaction and you need to login with your details to verify, DELETE that email. Such emails usually trick users into visiting the site, and once you do, viruses and spywares get downloaded on your device which automatically joins you to a network of enslaved computers that have been programmed to carry out malicious deeds. No reputable organization would send emails to collect user names, passwords, token keys or Debit/Credit card details.
The threats to your online accounts increase daily, however, the tips above can help you stay protected online while still providing the convenience online access offers you this holiday.

While Owing Workers... -

As representatives of 21 Peoples Democratic Party [PDP]
governors mounted the rostrum Saturday night at the
presidential villa in Abuja to announce N1.05 billion in
donation to the PDP, back in their respective states, school
teachers and other state workers were enduring their
second or third month of work without pay.

In some states, the indebtedness to workers stretched a
year.

In Ebonyi, authorities owed teachers under the Universal
Basic Education scheme nearly 12 months of salaries.

In Abia State, secondary school teachers were last paid in August, while primary school teachers have been owed since October.

In Akwa Ibom State, the nation’s leading oil producer which
draws more than triple of what other states receive from the federation account monthly, local government staff were on strike. Before the strike, they were forced to receive half salaries for several months, while authorities claimed they had no money.

In Cross River, the situation had worsened after months of indebtedness that state-run television, the Cross River
Broadcasting Corporation, CRBC, shut off production last
week. The station remains off air till date. Other staff fortunate to have received reasonably up-to-date pay, have yet to be paid for November.

But on Saturday night, Cross State governor, Liyel Imoke,
stood next to his Bauchi State colleague, Isa Yuguda, as Mr. Yuguda announced to a gleeful president and a shocked
nation how the 21 governors who had been struggling to pay salaries long before the present oil crisis, rallied N50
million each in donation to the PDP.

“We may do more in future, but that is what we were able to
raise for now,” Mr. Yuguda assured.

Politics › I did not accuse Buhari of corruption, but his supporters must be.. –Sheik Gumi by gratiaeo(op): 5:55pm On Dec 25, 2014
I did not accuse Buhari of corruption, but his supporters must be reasonable – Sheik Gumi

A prominent Islamic cleric, Abubakar Gumi, has denied accusing a presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, of corruption.
Mr. Gumi stated this in a facebook post on his wall on Christmas Day. The cleric was reacting to allegations that he accused Mr. Buhari of corruption during a visit to him by an Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohaneze Ndigbo.
“It is not my duty to determine whether anybody is corrupt or not or to even pass a damning verdict on him,” he said.
Mr. Gumi, who had opposed the candidacy of both Mr. Buhari and President Goodluck Jonathan, stated that all he was interested in was a free, fair and peaceful election.
He criticised supporters of Mr. Buhari for their reactions to any criticism of the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate.
“Criticizing Buhari will inevitably be seen as an act of blasphemy in the eyes of his supporters,” he said. “They see anyone that speaks against what they believe in as a Jonathan man. This pathetic situation has to be reversed because the moment someone presents himself for leadership he is liable to criticism and answerable to people before God.”
Read Mr. Gumi’s full post below:
2015: Politics should not suppress our Conscience
My attention was drawn to a series of deliberate misrepresentations and distortions of particularly my comments during the visit of the Kaduna chapter of Oha-na-ze Ndigbo in some newspapers. For the records, I am not a politician and I don’t have sympathy for any of the political parties. My commitment for those that are fair and following what I do is always to ensure that the rule of law prevails in the conduct of all politicians and for the major stakeholders to avoid overheating our already saturated polity. If some of my comments, which some considered nasty and against their political interest and pursuit, will ultimately alert our largely unenlightened youths and subsequently prevent the looming bloodshed I foresaw, then the abuses and allegations of compromise against my person will be my own sacrifice to this nation.
It does not matter the malicious opinion of anybody against whosoever did anything for the sake of Allah because He knows the secrets of our hearts and He is the ultimate judge. I am always very conscious of everything I write and I will always accept responsibility no matter who feels offended. As an Islamic scholar the supporters of Jonathan or Buhari should not expect me to embark on campaign or to compel people to vote a candidate they don’t want. My responsibility is to guide and alert the nation based on what I know and my conviction, while the people have the final say. In the process, like all mortals, I can be wrong. What is important in Islam is to act strictly for the sake of Allah.
I have not said, as reported during the groups visit to me, that General Buhari is also corrupt as purported and erroneous disseminated. In any case, it is not my duty to determine whether anybody is corrupt or not or to even pass a damning verdict on him.
May I state, however, that the content of my recent posting as clear as it is was publicized by some media outfits to deliberately mislead the public about my position, many viewed it as against Buhari or an indirect endorsement for Jonathan. The records too are very clear. There is no Nigerian leader I persistently criticize and censor like Jonathan because of the deficiency in his leadership to address many serious national issues today, in some part of the country . Criticizing Buhari will inevitably be seen as an act of blasphemy in the eyes of his supporters. They see anyone that speaks against what they believe in as a Jonathan man. This pathetic situation has to be reversed because the moment someone presents himself for leadership he is liable to criticism and answerable to people before God.
The fact that there is religion in politics and politics in religion is the reason why I believe it is a duty for me to be consistent in addressing issues of public interest and to ensure that no human blood drops for the sake of anybody’s ambition, including the ambition of Jonathan and Buhari.
My comments on avoiding violence during the election is not only limited to the supporters of Buhari as mischievously being insinuated but extended to the supporters of Jonathan as well. In fact that is why before the two parties held their presidential conventions I repeatedly urged the parties to do away with the candidatures of Jonathan and Buhari because of the potential danger of doing so. But now that they didn’t listen and produced the duo, it is obvious that only one of them will eventually become president in 2015. At this point I must say, therefore, that we must prepare our minds and accept the outcome of the election as much as it is conducted under reasonable fairness. This is better than the risk of losing one human life because of the ambition of Jonathan or Buhari. If lives are worth sacrificing why is it that the children of our politicians did not participate in the post- election violence of 2011! At this note I will call on INEC and the Security agencies to conduct themselves appropriately without partiality to diffuse post -election tension and Violence. I also call on the public to be patient no matter the level of provocation and injustice because at the end of it all and due to our collective prayers Allah (SWT) will provide the way out for Nigeria.
I am compelled to give this additional comment because I know that there are many reasonable people that misunderstood my position because of the manner my comments are being reported. May Allah protect us all and guide us aright. Amin
