I dont see anything wrong in the President allowing security agencies to do their statutory functions. what most Nigerians are use to is a President that interfere with with all what the security agencies are doing..

I do not see a reason why the President will send the police to lay siege to the house of the senate president and deputy senate president, when he has the Army to do that if he so want to playing the card of militarization.. what most Nigerians are failing to see in the picture is the fact that the siege may be stage manage..

From the way Fayose was desperate to impose his Yes man(Eleka) as Governor, one will know he is trying to cover up fishy dealings in his government, Brother Reno is already helping Fayose to cover his tracks by bring up all this, so that Fayemi will not complain even if the state is broke..

The Presidency defended yesterday its response to the killings across the country.

It gave a timeline of President Muhammadu Buhari’s activities to end it.

All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole said the party was concerned about the killings. He called on security agents to prove to Nigerians that they can defend them and ensure the safety of lives and properties.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) advised Nigerians to stop blaming President Buhari for the killings, saying: “Nigerian lawmakers should take the lion’s share of the blame, followed by the citizens and the media”.

It added that politicians, tribal bigots and a section of the media, which has been spreading wrong information about killings, should also take the blame.

Presidential spokesman Femi Adesina said: “A popular refrain from some quarters is that the President is not doing enough to combat the insecurity that has beleaguered the country in recent times.

“Lest that untruth begin to wear a garb of reality, let us consider some initiatives taken under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari to rein in the security situation, particularly since January, 2018.

For January 2018, Adesina said: “Leadership of the police deployed in Benue State, after mass killings reportedly committed by herdsmen. This was followed by a fact-finding team led by the Minister of Interior, and deployment of Special Forces of the military to restore law and order.

“National Economic Council sets up 10-man committee on farmers/herdsmen clashes, headed by the Vice President.

“The 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna, launched a special operation,Karamin Goro (Small Kolanut), in collaboration with the Air Force, Police, Department of State Services, and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC; to tackle kidnapping, robbery and cattle rustling in parts of Kaduna and Niger states (Minna-Birnin Gwari-Pandogari and Minna-Sarkin Pawa general areas).”

In February 2018, “the Nigerian Army commenced Exercise Ayem Akpatuma covering Benue, Taraba, Kogi, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Niger states, in order to tackle kidnappings, herdsmen/farmers’ clashes, among others”.

“The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) inducted its first indigenous operational Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV),Tsaigumi. The newly-inducted UAV has day and night capability, an operational endurance in excess of 10 hours, a service ceiling of 15,000 feet and a mission radius of 100km, and is capable of being used for policing operations, disaster management, convoy protection, maritime patrol, pipeline, power line monitoring as well as mapping and border patrol duties.

“The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) established 10 new Units as NAF had concluded plans to set up Quick Response Wings (QRWs) across Nasarawa State, in a bid to tackle the herders/farmers clashes plaguing some states within the axis.”

In March, Adesina said, the government took some steps, including President Buhari’s sympathy visits to states that had experienced wanton killings in the country.

“The Nigerian Army extended Exercise Ayem Akpatuma in Taraba State by two months.

“The committee set up by the National Economic Council on farmers/herdsmen clashes submits report, making far reaching recommendations for peace, including ranching in five states.

For April 2018, Adesina said the Air Force took delivery of a second batch of two brand new Mi-35N helicopter gunships to boost internal security. It deployed Special Forces to Zamfara State to combat criminality.

In May 2018, police inaugurated a Mobile Squadron in Takum, Taraba State, the Nigerian Air Force established three new Quick Response Wings (QRW) in Taraba, Nasarawa and Benue states, and deployed Special Forces personnel to these new bases. (Taraba State QRW is located in Nguroje; Nasarawa State QRW in Doma; and Benue State QRW in Agatu).

Also in May, “Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Idris ordered the deployment of 200 policemen, and 10 patrol vehicles to Birnin Gwari (Kaduna-Zamfara axis) to tackle armed banditry in the area.

“President Buhari approved the establishment of a new Battalion of the Nigerian Army, as well as a new Police Area Command, in Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna State, as part of measures to scale up the security response to the banditry affecting the area. Chief of Army Staff. Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai has since flagged off the new Battalion (2 Battalion Forward Operating Base, FOB) in Kanfanin Doka Village, Birnin-Gwari, Kaduna State.

“The Defence Headquarters assembled a Special Military Intervention Force comprising more than 1,000 personnel, drawn from the Army, Air Force, Navy, Police, DSS and NSCDC, to respond to the security challenges in the North Central and North West. On May 8, 2018, the Force launched Operation WHIRL STROKE as a full-scale military operation to completely restore law, order and stability in the affected communities. The Whirl Stroke Operational Force Commander is Major General Adeyemi Yekini.

“Chief of Army Staff inducted a mix of 49 Toyota Land Cruisers and Innoson gun trucks at the HQ of the 133 Special Forces Battalion of the Nigerian Army at Azare to support the ongoing OPERATION LAST HOLD in Northern Borno.

“NAF launched newly-constructed accommodation for the 205 Combat Search and Rescue Group (CSARG) — established in 2017 to provide aid and operational assistance to wounded and distressed troops serving in combat units — in Kerang, Plateau State.

“The Air Task Force of NAF commenced Operation THUNDER STRIKE to attack selected locations of Boko Haram Terrorists in the North-East.

“The Nigerian Army commissioned its new Forward Operating Base in Epe, Lagos State.”

Adesina said in June 2018, the NAF deployed combat helicopters to its 207 Quick Response Group (QRG) in Gusau, Zamfara State to support the fight against armed banditry in the town and its environs.

President Buhari approved the establishment of Operation WHIRL STROKE II, for deployment in Zamfara and Kaduna states.

Securing the length and breadth of the country, he noted, is a continuing commitment.

“It is one of the key pledges of the Buhari administration, which it is carrying out night and day,” the spokesman stressed.

According to him, the security situation in the country in May 2015 when the administration came on board was in tatters.

Adesina added: “It pulled up its bootstraps, rolled up its sleeves, set to work, and the Boko Haram insurgency was beaten back. It was eventually degraded.

“Other security challenges are being tackled and will subsequently become history. Not doing enough, as some critics claim, is not part of the deal, nor is it reality, no, not by any stretch of the imagination. A lot is being done, and success is guaranteed,” he said.

Oshiomhole, speaking after the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting yesterday, said Nigerians must come together with the same vigour they fought the Boko Haram insurgency to defeat the menace of herdsmen killings rather than attaching ethnic and religious sentiments to the killings.

He told the security agents to wake up to their responsibilities as no one will be satisfied with making explanations or try to explain away why we cannot secure human lives especially of a Nigerian citizen within the borders of Nigeria.

He said: “We have deliberated on the unfortunate incident that occurred in Sokoto state last week in which a number of innocent Nigerians were killed in cold blood by gunmen.

“We are worried about this and our preliminary investigations showed that those affected come from a part of the state that can be said to quite rural and probably a place where people don’t even have cattle. All they have is just their farm land.

“This killings, like other killings across the country is condemnable and the NWC condemn them in the strongest words possible, we believe that every Nigerian, regardless of his location has a right to life.

“We admit that the minimum obligation of government is to protect lives and property and we urge our security chiefs to do everything possible not only to arrest all those involved in this senseless killing, but to do everything possible to be seen to have the competence to protect lives and property.

“No one will be satisfied with making explanations or try to explain away why we cannot secure human lives especially of a Nigerian citizen within the borders of Nigeria.

“We want to strongly appeal to all Nigerians and the media should help us in this process. This is the only country that we have and so, we must do everything to give every Nigerian a sense of security regardless of his accident of birth place which some people refer to as ethnic origin or his choice of residence of religious belief.

“It is not helpful to national efforts of security lives and property if any Nigerian, including religious leaders and Media seeks to explain criminality in terms of religion or ethnic nationality. This is unhelpful in terms of our collective responsibility to work with security agencies to provide useful information that can lead to the arrest of criminals and also help them to preempt any plan by criminals to undermine our collective security.

“Those responsible for the wanton killings in Sokoto and those who are victims are of the same ethnic origin and unarguably of the same religious persuasion. It is the same thing in Zamfara state.

“It is not between one ethnic group or the other and so, if these criminals found themselves in other parts of the country as they have done from time to time, and their victims are of different ethnic origin, we should insist that we treat them for who they are, criminals that government has a duty to pursue and chase out of the territory of Nigeria and all those who are perpetuating crimes be brought to justice in accordance with the provisions of our laws.

“As a nation, we should all be united, not only in co democracy in this wanton killing, but also in helping government to do what it has to do compel security agents to live up to their mandate. It is clearly unhelpful and it bothers on divisive politics if we seek to disguise criminality either in religious terms or ethnic terms.

“Government has a duty to protect all citizens regardless of their religious belief. I ask the Media to help us to educate the people that it does not help the process of law enforcement if crime and criminality are identified in terms of their ethnic origin or their religion.

“But we are together as a party and Nigerians that this killings stand condemned and our security must do everything possible to convince Nigerians that under their leadership, we are safe and secured. They must continue to review their operational modalities in the light of emerging threats.

“The Buhari government is determined to do everything possible to secure the live and property of every Nigerian. That is one of the key objective that this government committed itself to. Unfortunately , as much as we have made progress, we cannot but commend the President and security agents in decimating Boko Haram.”

In a statement in Ibadan yesterday, quoted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) MURIC’s Director Prof. Ishaq Akintola, said “Nigerian lawmakers should take the lion share of the blame, followed by the citizens and the media.

“They should all accept their culpability in this peculiar mess instead of blaming the executive since the latter has done what is humanly possible within the law.’’

He said it was unfair to blame Buhari for Nigeria’s inability to stop killings because security was a collective responsibility, particularly the different arms of government.

“The executive, judiciary, legislature and the press as the fourth estate of the realm also has a vital role to play as well as the citizens.

“The legislature, instead of cooperating with the executive, is an open enemy even in a sensitive matter like the security of lives and property.

“As killings occur on a daily basis, Buhari made a move in April to procure more weapons to fight insecurity but the senate turned down the request.

“National Assembly made so much fuss about Buhari’s request for $1 billion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund, threatening to impeach him for approving its release without its consent.

“The same self-serving legislature delayed the budget for seven months just to get back at the executive and of course no money can be released before the Appropriation Act is signed into law.

“The national Assembly also declined to accede to Buhari’s request to approve the sum of $496 million for the procurement of Super Tucano aircraft from the United States.

“Yet Nigerians failed in their duty to question the right of their lawmakers to endanger their lives,’’ Akintola said.

Akintola said the recent revelation by Hon. Ahmed Maje that certain politicians sponsored killers and assassins who were trained in Israel has completely absolved President Buhari in the killings.

MURIC urged Nigerians to adopt a holistic approach to killings occurring in the country.

“Farmer-herder clashes are common everywhere, particularly in West Africa and Nigeria is not an isolated case but we are behaving as if Nigeria is an island.

“Take Ghana as an example. Earlier this year, cattle rustlers invaded farmlands in Ashanti, Volta, Brong Ahafo and the Eastern regions leading to killings and the destruction of farms.
“But Ghanaians did not crucify their president because of the clashes but solve the problem by establishing their first cattle ranch last week at Afram Plains in the eastern region. It plans to establish more in the Volta and Ashanti regions.

“It is time to face realities. We must borrow a leaf from Ghana. That country is as multi-religious and multi-cultural as Nigeria,’’ Akintola said.

Twenty-four hours after a group of 38 parties announced the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) to wrest power from President Muhammadu Buhari, another group of 20 political parties yesterday joined forces with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in an alliance to form the Coalition of Progressives Political Parties (CPPP)

Also yesterday, Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) Chairman and former Kaduna State Governor Balarabe Musa described the coalition against Buhari “as an act of opportunism.”

A presidential aspirant of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) also lashed out at the PDP-led coalition for its “lack of any real agenda to improve the lives of Nigeria.”

There are 68 registered political parties and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is considering the application for registration of about 138 others.

The political parties in pro-Buhari’s CPPP which met in Abuja yesterday, are: All Progressives Congress (APC), Accord Party, Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), United Progressive Party (UPP), Advanced People’s Democratic Alliance (APDA), Hope Democratic Party (HDP), Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) and Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN).

Others are: Freedom Justice Party (FJP), Fresh Party (FP), New Nigeria’s Peoples Party (NNPP), Nigeria’s Peoples Congress (NPC), Nigeria Peoples Movement (NPM), Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), National Action Congress (NAC) and NDLP.

The chairman of the coalition, who is also the National chairman of PDM, Alhaji Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim, told reporters after hours of meeting at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja that the coalition was made up of like-minded political parties who believe in Nigeria’s unity and stability.

He noted that the coalition, which was formed in 2014 ahead of the 2015 presidential election aligned with the candidature of President Buhari, then the APC candidate.

Ibrahim said the coalition was merely resurrected to counter the orchestrated PDP coalition against the APC-led government.

Berating the PDP coalition, he said the parties were driven by selfishness and hunger to capture power in 2019.

He explained that the parties that formed the coalition with the PDP lacked the agenda to drive a new Nigeria.

The PDM chairman alleged that most of the parties in the PDP coalition were fraudulently included to sign the MoU to deceive Nigerians.

He noted that while the Accord Party chairman and his party, the PDM, among others, abstained from the PDP meeting, their parties’ names were listed without their consent. This, he said, raised doubts about the credibility of the coalition.

He said: “Yesterday (Monday) we woke up to a new development where PDP outside power has now managed to create another coalition. As facts continue to emerge, they listed 36 political parties. Our analysis of that coalition reveals that a number of political parties were included in that coalition fraudulently.

“Part of the 42 political parties they listed is Accord party and the chairman of the party is here with us. If you are creating a coalition, you need to be honest about it as to who and who are members of the coalition.

“As of today, the membership of that coalition is in doubt. Two members also listed at that coalition are here. We are not part of that coalition because we represent a political type of politics which is in total contradiction of what they are doing.

“We do not believe that our country should be governed by people whose only objective is to capture power. For what purpose is that coalition built? Is it for the purpose of taking Nigeria back to 1999 and 2015 or is it for the purpose of building a new Nigeria?

“That purpose has not been stated, even their in their memorandum. The only thing in their MoU is to agree to capture power in 2019. Their programme has not been made known to the Nigerian public . We will not be part of a coalition that does not have a programme for Nigeria.”

On the objective of the CPPP coalition, Ibrahim said it was to mobilise Nigerians to play a greater role in political activities and ensure that they are given the right to elect their leaders in a free. fair and credible electoral process.

He said the agenda included to monitor and exert pressure on INEC to uphold the sanctity of elections and to help identify security threat, among others.

The secretary of the Coalition and National Chairman of the Advanced People’s Democratic Alliance (APDA), Shittu Muhammed Kabiru, noted that the coalition was to advance the course of democracy and to stabilise the economy which was mismanaged by past PDP- led governments.

Shittu said the coalition would bring Nigeria out of economic impoverishment.

“We want Nigerians to know that our coalition is for a new Nigeria and to advance the cause of Nigeria and democracy and also to change the country from impoverishment to economic prosperity.

“We want Nigeria to survive. We will do everything to defend the economy of this country; we are concerned about the unity and stability of Nigeria,” Shittu said.

I have noticed that, any time the APC do something that is surprising like the crowd they gather in Ekiti, there will always be a counter news, either fake or real, it comes out from the desperation of the PDP paid agent..

Well i watched the campaign and i discover that the APC leaders used Yoruba to talk to electorates, even Oshiomhole struggle to speak yoruba, to get voters...so one will wonder why the OP is insinuating that the people on ground were brought in fro EDO state, when the APC can actually go get crowd from ONDO or OYO.. The federal government yesterday said the proposed national airline for the country would be unveiled in December, 2018.

The Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, said this in a statement by the ministry’s Deputy Director, Media and Public Affairs, James Odaudu.



The minister, according to the statement, made this commitment while receiving the Outline Business Case Certificate of Compliance from the Director General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Mr. Chidi Izuwa, in Abuja.

According to the minister, “There is no doubt that the issue of national carrier for Nigeria is very close to the hearts of both the government and the people, which is the reason it has taken the option of a Public Private partnership with the belief that it was the only way to deliver a national carrier that would stand the test of time.”

Sirika also expressed satisfaction with the way the Transaction Advisers had carried out their assignments with utmost diligence and timeliness.

He assured that the National Carrier that would be delivered would be world class in operation and management.

The minister said the presentation of the certificate was a testament on how far the project had gone.

The proposed airline will gulp $8.8 million as preliminary cost and $300 million as take-off cost.

The project would be executed through a Public Private Partnership (PPP).

According to Sirika, Nigeria would receive the first set of five airplanes for the airliner on December 19.

The airline would make profit in three years after operations, he said.

“We will make the investments and follow the business plan through private sector management. We intend to get a 30 aircraft market in five years. But we will begin with five aircraft on the day of launch,” he said.

Sirika added, “At Farnborough International Public Air show coming July 18, 2018 in London, we will unveil the name, logo, colour scheme, the structure and the type of airplane about the national carrier. We will also place the order for the aircraft at the event.”

The minister explained that the government would step in to cover the funding gap at the onset and exit later.

He said the government would not get involved in the management of the national carrier, adding that Nigeria’s population of over 180 million people is huge enough to support aviation and that the airline would take advantage of Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) that the country had with over 70 countries.

According to him, it would also take advantage of the Africa Single Air Transport Market and would be the best player if the government gets it right.

“But if we don’t, it will become a threat to us. But I believe we are on the right track,” he said.

The minister also gave an assurance that the national carrier would not kill the domestic airlines operating in the country.

He commended the efforts of the ICRC Director General and his team in ensuring that the National Carrier project remained on track through the observation of all legal aid regulatory frameworks.

Also speaking, Izuwah, said the presentation of the Certificate of Compliance was an official green light to proceed with the procurement process.

According to him, start-up cost over the next three years is about $300 million, but pre-start-up is $8.8 million.

“The rest of the investment will be equity injection, which will happen in tranches because you do not need all the monies at once. External capital injection also depends on the profitability of the airline. Though, you need that initial government financial to make it take off, but what is important is that the national carrier will be entirely private sector controlled,” he said, adding, “There will be zero government interference. But if that happens, it invalidates the certificate and the entire process.”

He said his commission, in granting the Certificate reviewed the Project Structuring Report, also known as the Outline Business Case, in line with the ICRC Act of 2005.

According to Izuwah, “The certificate was granted on the condition that the federal government has committed to leveraging on private sector capital and expertise towards the establishment of the national carrier through the provision of a Viability Gap Funding for the project.”

He stated other conditions for granting the Certificate of Compliance to an official commitment to zero contribution to airline management decisions and zero government control, warning that any attempt to impose government control would invalidate the Certificate and the entire process.

The ICRC Director General commended the minister for his commitment to changing the face of aviation in Nigeria through infrastructural renaissance and said the PPP remains the only viable option for Nigeria in view of dwindling national resources.

ABUJA – THE Federal Executive Council, FEC, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa Abuja, yesterday approved a total of N230.28 billion for road projects and mining data in the country.

Briefing the State House correspondents after the FEC, meeting, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai flanked by the Minister of State for Mines and Steel, Bawa Bwari disclosed that N206 billion was approved for linking road and associated infrastructures for the 2nd Niger Bridge

The Minister of Information said, “Also approved today is a contract for the link road and associated infrastructures for the 2nd Niger Bridge. The link road is about 11.9 kilometers. The contract was awarded to Julius Berger at N206 billion. The bridge is linking Anambra and Delta states. “If you remember, the contract was awarded by the last administration under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement which failed.” He further stated that N11.58 billion was approved for re-award of rehabilitation of a road in Enugu State. He further stated that there were two memos from the Minister of Power, Works and Housing which were considered and approved. He said, “The first is the approval for the reaward of the contract for the rehabilitation of the Oji- Achi- Mmaku- Awgu- Ndeabor Road in Enugu state .The contract was approved today at the sum of N11.558,6976 billion and was awarded to Setraco Nigeria limited. Completion period is 24 months. “What happened was that the contract was awarded earlier to a company that failed and Setraco that was given other sections of the road performed and had now been awarded the contract while that of the other contractor has been rescinded . “Also approved today is the contract for the link road and associated infrastructure for the second Niger Bridge. If you remember, this time last week I was in Onitsha and Asaba inspecting the second Niger Bridge. Today FEC has now approved the award of the link road. The bridge itself is just 1.95metres , but the link road is 11.9km and this contract was awarded to Julius Berger for the sum of N206 billion. “It will include not just the link road but also associated infrastructure and you know this bridge is linking Anambra and Delta states . Remember that the project was conceived by the last administration under a PPP arrangement which failed and that is why the federal government had to take over this contract. So far about N14 billion had been paid to contractors handling the bridge and the contract today that was awarded is for the link and associated infrastructure that will link the bridge. “The memo by the minister of state for Petroleum sought the council’s approval for a revised estimate total cost for the engineering, procurement and construction of the OB3 gas pipeline project. “Again this is a project that has been awarded but there was a need for the cost of the redesigning to seek for council’s approval so that there will be enough funds to execute the project. The project is important because it has to do with the delivery of gas from the eastern part of the country to the power turbines and to improve our power supply. “This contract is awarded to Nestor limited and Olisa limited and the total cost of the contract is $92 million and N765. 968 million. These were the memos that were considered and approve The Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Bwari said that the FEC approved N12.7 billion for exploration and consultancy projects in the mining sector, adding that the projects will help in getting accurate mining data, which will attract local and foreign investments. He said “Our major challenge in diversification programme of the government in the mining sector has been that of data. Today the Federal Executive Council approved the contract for exploration and consultancy on some of our targeted minerals like gold, industrial minerals, earth metals, iron ore for four companies in exploration and four companies in consultancy side of it and this contract is worth N12.7 billion. “And with this, we will encourage both local and foreign investors to come in. Our Major challenge is the bankable data, most mining companies will not want to come into your country when they are not sure of what they are going to meet. “Nigeria has the potential for minerals although we have not been known as a solid mineral destination, we have been known as a oil and gas destination. The perception is gradually changing and for us to really encourage this people to come in, we really need to explore because you cannot mine without information and information can only be gotten through exploration. “The government today approved for us to start with some of our targeted minerals in line with what we have in the road map.” The Minister said that the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, presented three memos which were approved by the Council. The three memos, he said, included Ratification of the Multilateral Competent Authority Agreement on Automatic Exchange of Financial Accounting Information, Ratification of the Africa 50th Articles of Association and the approval for the Financial Transparency Policy Guidelines. He said, “One, she sought for the ratification of the multi lateral competent Authority agreement on automatic exchange of financial account information. Actually this is a memo which was approved and is going to assist in curbing tax evasion and improve the revenue collection of government. “She also presented a memo asking for the approval of ratification of the African Fifty Article Association .This particular memo is unique in the sense that both the African fifty project finance and African fifty project development association are actually two windows which have been created by the African Development Bank to allow for bankable infrastructural projects to be financed by the subsidiaries of the African Development Bank. “There are certain projects which cannot be financed simply by the ADB so they created this two windows to allow for such projects to be financed by these two platforms and already Nigeria is one of the founding members of these two platforms and have invested heavily in them and with the ratification of this treaty and it has made it possible for Nigeria to take advantage of this. “There is also a memo by the minister of finance seeking the council’s approval for the financial transparency policy guidelines. This memo was approved and I think the unique thing about this memo is that it is going to bring more transparency to how government revenue and account are being handled. “As a matter of fact, with the approval of this memo it will now be possible for the public to know exactly how much revenue is collected by the government, how much is being spent just by going on the website of the various ministries, department and agencies.”

The federal government is set to establish different production facilities for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the country, in collaboration with state governments, to help them overcome their funding challenges.

The Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who disclosed this through his Special Assistant on MSMEs, Tola Adekunle-Johnson, also announced plan to organise the maiden edition of National MSME Awards to hold on August 2, 2018. Osinbajo said that upon the take-off of the shared production facilities, all that would be required of small business operators, who face challenges funding the purchase of production equipment, was to pay a token to the government to rent the production facilities for the creation of their products as obtainable in some developed countries. He said following his tour of MSME clinics across 17 states of the country in the past 18 months and having interacted with over 303,000 MSME operators, the federal government decided to initiate a rewarding system to reward 12 most outstanding small business owners. He stated: “The Presidency has graciously approved the establishment of shared facilities for MSMEs because as the clinics have gone we have seen that there are some MSMEs, though smart but do not even have financial capabilities to run their businesses. “A lot of MSMEs engage in different clusters but they don’t have money for the equipments to buy equipments for their clusters, so what we are trying to do as a government is to partner with interested states as well and say listen give us facilities. We, as the federal government, will come up with how to get the equipment or at least an average of five clusters per state. “So, if you say for instance you are manufacturing pure water, you can come into this building pay a token and manufacture your pure water. The building would have been certified by National Agency for Drug and Food Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON). Once you manufacture that pure water you are going to the market to sell. If you are doing leather works the same thing is applicable. That’s another initiative that has come out of national MSME clinics.” On the award slated to hold in Abuja, the vice president said it would be cash-backed, adding that it is aimed at encouraging MSMEs in the country. According to him, the award will be in 12 categories namely: MSME of the Year, Young MSME of the Year, Most Friendly MSME State, Excellence in Creative Arts, Excellence in Agriculture, Excellence in Manufacturing, Excellence in Manufacturing, Excellence in Technology Innovation and Excellence in Fashion and Style. Others are Excellence in Leather Works, Excellence Furniture and Wood Works, Excellence in Beauty, Wellness and Cosmetics as well as Excellence for Non-Profit Service to Humanity. Osinbajo listed the criteria to include: outstanding business concept, locally produced goods, use of local technology, and provision of conducive atmosphere for MSMEs to thrive, among others. He said nominations will commence from July 4 to 13, 2018, pointing out that it would be national programme that would hold annually.
