TouchstoneNgr: Thanks. The granites are of different grades. The one used in the kitchen above is 21,000 per linear meter. There are more expensive stones and cheaper ones as well. Yeah, I meant the granite top you used here. Thanks for the information. How much cheaper can granite tops get and what is the difference: colours? Texture?? Strength?? What makes it cheaper |

LondonCool: Thanks for your observation. One of the rooms upstairs already has a balcony. Another balcony can be created and extended for the second room without necessarily decking more foot space.
I get your practical solution. The columns and pillars around the foundation were designed to carry the load of a storey building ( if necessary). The issue for me is that if I keep on shifting the conceptual goalpost by extending the decking I might as well deck the whole roof and convert it to a Duplex. However, I'll have a word with the Structural Engineer about the feasibility of extending the decking to accommodate a large balcony.
I was even toying with the idea of having a another floor on top of the penthouse for a proper 'penthouse'. The Engineer approved it but my wife kicked against it as we are getting older (i.e. reality of climbing staircases at an advanced age). If you already have the foundation for it (columns & pillars etc) then maybe an extended balcony would be cool!! Just imagine setting a nice canopy up there Anyway, financially: no need for all the woodwork for roofing and no roof. You "transfer" that budget to pay for the decking. Again, I'm just a dreamer and you're the owner (not forgetting your wife oh) |

Actually, this can be an advantage. You just invert your house! Meaning, you excavate a bit more to fit in your "pent-house", put a retaining wall and deck. Violà, you now build the bungalow!! When you look at your house from one side, it's a one storey building and from another side it's just a bungalow. LondonCool: And the beat goes on. During my 3 week stay in Calabar, I decided to up the ante and tackle the challenging sloppy terrain. The foundation input was enough to build a flat.
Lesson learnt: If you do not have loads of money, dont buy a plot of land that is slopping at a steep gradient. It takes double the amount of money to level the foundation.
Check out the 8-9 coaches of block work for the foundation |

LondonCool: This was the original 3D version done for me by Vicmoor. Beautiful house!!! Just an observation: why roof the bungalow when you can deck and use that space as balcony for your pent-house |

Politics › Re: How Politically Marketable Is Osibanjo? by gtrust: 6:59pm On Dec 15, 2014 |
WENGERNOMICS: Ok............Good Points but really, its not a bad choice. In the run up to the general elections, PDP's strongest point against Buhari will be his islamist tendencies. APC must have sat down to ask themselves how best they can counter that conversation. Osinbajo is a very senior and influential pastor in RCCG. And make no mistake about it , RCCG is one of the most influential christian bodies in Nigeria. If RCCG is convinced to line up behind Osinbajo.....then it may be easy to pull along other influential christian bodies like Winners, Mountain of Fire, Deeper Life.......and the orthodox churches. PDP are the masters in playing the religious game.................and so picking Osinbajo is a move to check that. This would have been possible if "Osibanjo" was the Presidential Candidate but unfortunately, na vice RCCG, WINNERS ETC ETC WILL rather stay put with GEJ (President)!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

motherlode: good so how do we start? Yeah!!! Start by making very fair analysis based on substance For example: pick a time frame say after Obj's government and note - Now we have railways - Now we have agriculture - Now we have federal universities in every 36 states - Now we have roads - Now we have very good airports - Now the "Middle class" is really back More and more. Infact, now we can talk and chat freely which is also called "freedom of speech"! Also now, elections are real: you can actually vote and your vote will count. Honestly, let's give a big "gbosaaa"!!! To President GEJ, he tried!!!! |
