PoliticsRe: Harrowing Photos Of The Mentally Ill In Sub-saharan Africa by gtrust: 3:03pm On Nov 21, 2013
omenka: The situation in this country is beyond pathetic to say the least. When one looks at the living conditions of some people amongst us, one is tempted to ask if really these's an omnipotent God out there!!!

Was at a wedding last weekend and saw some of those kids that go scavenging left overs with their parents at wedding venues. There was this particular kid I saw that almost brought tears out my eyes, had to blink several times to keep my eyes from betraying me. His was a case of severe polio. He was crouched in a superranuated wheelchair, with tears in his eyes, drooling, speaking gibberish, and wore clothes you wouldn't dust your dirtiest shoes with. His situation as I saw it was beyond pathetic, and he had his kid brother (knew cos I interacted with them) pushing him around. Called them, asked a few questions about their parents and dug my hands into the right arm rest compartment of my car and brought out what little accumulated change I had in there and handed it to them. Collected some drinks and emptied them into a plastic bottle and gave them my food also. You can't imagine how grateful they were!!
As they left, I took my seat, but couldn't stop cursing our "leaders" in my mind!! I mean, do these so called leaders really have hearts at allhuh How do they manage to sleep at night while surrounded by such destitutes or don't they see these people even through their tinted bullet proofed glasses every once in a whilehuh Experiences like this are the reasons I can never say a good prayer for these politicians. It is just too damn depressing to see innocent kids go through such horrendous experiences when the country can afford to really give them a childhood worth looking back to.

God bless the Kids.
This is so sad!!

Look at it this way too:
Overseas, churches and mosques and charitable organisations are actually the people driving the care of the mentally unwell.
If you go to UK, Ireland and Germany and if you go to USA & Canada (these are the few I have seen with my own eyes) most of
these institutions are OWNED by these charitable and religious organisations.
In Copenhagen, a certain very big pharmaceutical company own a research neuro-psychiatric hospital and I almost pee-eed in my pants
passing through there as I wasn't sure if I would come out with my brains or not.

Governments tend to avoid these kind of people and it is not unique to Nigeria.
Infact, Hitler is an example of a head of government whose policy it was to kill ALL mad/mentally unstable people!

What is peculiar to Nigeria is: Religious organisations' disconnect from the society with money being spent on big big buildings (mosques, churches, universities etc) and private jets (it's cheaper for 1000 people to fly 1st class commercial weekly than to own and maintain private air-crafts)
There's also lack of real charitable organisations and what I have seen in Nigeria are 'motherless babies' home and these to me appear as 'business'.

You see, we have to START LOVING OUR NEIGHBOURS and then our governments can join when they want our votes they will ask us what is important to us...

Car TalkRe: Is It Better To Buy A Car Outright Or To Buy Using A Loan? by gtrust: 9:01pm On Nov 13, 2013
klas: Now you are talking. In Nigeria this is the cost of the loan

Commitment fee - 1% of the total loan
Management fee -2% payable annually
Insurance cost - 10% of insurable value
Interest per annum - 18% to 23% compounding
Tenor. - 2 to 3 years

Is loan financing really an option in nigeria?
This make NO sense!
I will ONLY take this option if I don't have to repay.

Question: what happens if you don't repayhuh
what happens if the car is stolen from youhuh
Overseas when your car is stolen, no wahala. Insurance company will replace sharp sharp.
Infact, it is a good thing for your car to be stolen overseas. You can even take the money, add change buy better car.
While your file is being processed, if you have a comprehensive insurance, you will be given a replacement car!
Car TalkRe: Is It Better To Buy A Car Outright Or To Buy Using A Loan? by gtrust: 7:23pm On Nov 13, 2013
where I dey:

Bank loan for cars:
-new comer 13-14%
- established credit rating 7%
- some bigger boys can still get special consideration at 4%

Direct loan from car dealers:
- Acura 2.9% max 60 months
- Kia 0.0% upto 84 months
- Ford 0.0% unto 60 months
- infiniti 2.9% 60 months
- Toyata 0.9% 60 months
-etc

some of these percentages are negotiable based on duration, amount of down payment, trade-in and which car you take etc...

N/B: You don't OWN the car until full payment is made.
If you default then the car can be repossessed!

Generally, with 0% to 2.99% I will rather take the car Loan!
Note there is also A LEASE arrangement where you just pay more and return the car say for example every year and pick a new one!
You know shaa that they're NOT worried about armer robbers etc.

it is your responsibility to insure your car and police will arrest you if you don't!

scribe2000: Oga Spyder, I observed, with huge admiration, your updates on the projects you are handling. Kudos for the excellent job.

I am about to start work on a 2 storey building with 6 flats of 3 bedroom each somewhere in the southeast. Each room will be en-suite.

Because I am not in the country, I want to get an independent expert opinion on the quotes I received for the completion of the building. I intend to independently verify the estimate before I commit myself to a particular builder.

Can you please give me an idea of what the cost might be to complete the building? Can I send you a private email?

Thanks.
Spyder is doing same right NOW in Enugu and there's a thread showing that live here on nairaland.

If I remember correctly, he mentioned 16 million naira.

PropertiesRe: Demolition Going On At Ojudu/Alagbole For The Ogun Road Project by gtrust: 8:42pm On Oct 28, 2013
DrDapcee: My family has multiple properties earmarked for demolition on this road… the income from these properties sustain the big family. The future is bleak. We have done nothing wrong. We have c/o. we made adequate clearance for future road expansion as adviced by our architect. Some of the houses date back 20yrs in age. All going down. …
We did not get any formal warning from the ogun state government. All we saw were markings on our property. No written notification. No media communiqué, nothing. We went to Abeokuta and we got conflicting reports both from the government office and the ministry of lands. In summary, they assured us that demolition would only start in 2015. They requested quotes for value of our properties…. running into nine digit figures. We gave them. They offered less than 20% of the current value of these properties. We asked for a design of the road so that we can plan a structured demolition of our property ourselves so as to preserve the memories of these properties and minimize destruction by their hungry bulldozers. They did not give us any. We were in the dark, confused, anxious, unhappy, disappointed. All of a sudden, we heard Amosun came last Sunday, spent about 20mins, walked about a 100m and was heard to say that work would commence tomorrow(monday).
I encourage development in every level and agree that Yakoyo /Alagbole road needs an overhaul, but why put the cart before the horse.
Amosun mentioned that he had warned us 2yrs ago about the proposed destruction. Why did he not use this period to compensate us so that we would not be in this current situation of unplanned homelessness after many years of comfort? I pray none of you become homeless, it is a wicked experience. Amosun never engaged stake holders of the area. When development started in the area back in the late 80’s and people were ignorantly purchasing the land from omo oniles, was there any advice from the government against such? If indeed there was a master plan for that road, why did the government not clamp down on development of that area during the early 90’s when development of that area was in its nascence?
Amosun has wielded his power immaturely and insensitively. Such impunity should not go unpunished regardless of the intention. Did you know that taking the road through the vast undeveloped area surrounding alagbole/yakoyo would save the government more money by saving on ‘compensation’? Why was this option not explored? This road would link to the Lagos/Ibadan express way about 5km from Berger junction.
This has exposes many problems that face our country. We the residents of this area are also human, powerless against the selfish govenrment but still human and deserve some respect. It is us today, but remember it can be you tomorrow, in another form. We should challenge such insensitivity to citizens. Most of these houses are the sole source of income for the owners. where do they go now? where would they sleep? compensation whenever it arrives will not alleviate the current distress and trauma.
God, we leave this in your hands. Fight for us, no body else will.
Here, when white people mark a house for demolition the owner celebrate.
They know they would be adequately compensated and do not need a lawyer atall.
There's nothing like present CofO, Building permit etc.
Government already have those stuff and all you need is identify yourself or bring legal papers that you inherited the properties from the original owner.
Black man no like themselves!
Black man likes to suffer his brothers and sisters for nothing.
Government is supposed to be for the people.

Why offer 20%huh

atlwireles: Now that the central govt has won this case. I hope the govt, will return this money back to delta. Ibori had no other means of income, than delta state money.
Delta state refused to provide any evidence that their (Delta state) money is missing.
They also did not support and even prevented the collection of evidence that Ibori stole Delta state's money.

They were afraid the said evidence might be used against Ibori hence Delta state forfeited the money to protect Ibori.

The 'good news' here is: it worked and Ibori will soon be released from prison!
Whenhuh Well that depends on the people running Nigeria and when they will be comfortable having Ibori around...2015 I my mind... lol

there are actually atleast 4 beast(s) in Obama's convoy at a time.

The fact is: ONLY the CIA know which is the real 'beast' at any particular time.
Nobody except CIA know the actually number of cadillacs that look exactly like the beast
and during operation: they decorate 2 alike!

The content and nature and therefore COST of the beast is NOT known to anybody except CIA.
Everything out there is speculation.
