The military court in Uganda has convicted two soldiers for the killing of three people during protests last year.

The demonstration broke out following the arrest of then-presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, at a campaign rally.

The first soldier was sentenced to “life in prison for killing Grace Walungama at a vehicle repair shop – allegedly for being a protester.”

He also shot Hussein Ssenoga – a colleague who refused to help in the arrest.

The second soldier was a member of the Local Defence Unit – a paramilitary outfit operating under the army that has a reputation of being “quick to open fire.”

He received 35 years in prison for killing Ibrahim Kirevu – a man he was supposed to escort to a cell at a police station.

These are the first convictions related to killings by the security forces during last year’s protests. More than 50 people were killed over two days.

Police claimed that Bobi Wine had been arrested to prevent the gathering of crowds, as a coronavirus control measure.

My one kwesion for EFCC is why did it take so long to declare him wanted since 2020 because it looks like someone wanted him to get far away/dissapear before going public with the indictment/allegations

Anytime I hear Police "investigates", I start counting the years before the case goes to court; that might be a century........The issue is a clearcut issue of negligence and condoning of cultism/bullying by the school authorities. Let them go after the school authorities. Have they even performed the autopsy on the dead student to determine if he had been fed a caustic substance or he developed SJD from medication

Some Nigerian senators have visited a former Ogun State governor, Olusegun Osoba, who is recuperating in London after a knee operation.

The chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Solomon Adeola, said the senators were in London and decided to pay the former governor a visit.

Mr Adeola said that it is gratifying to see that Mr Osoba is fast recovering from his surgery as evidenced in his personally coming to receive them at the door from the first floor and going back up with them to the sitting room upstairs.

The visit came weeks after Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Olakunle Oluomo, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, visited Mr Osoba.
