micxwell: I'm about to start putting together my report. It's long overdue for me.
I've been into Environmental Health and Safety for over 5years now. 2 out of which I've spent as a Construction Safety Manager.
Do I have to do away with my designation and just stick to Civil Engineering?
N.B: I have a B.Tech and M.Sc in Civil Engineering. register as a civil engineer |

babakb: We're saying the same thing!!! All what you listed here are the limitations that HND Graduates are attempting to avoid by opting for a Bachelor Degree through Top Up program. I’m not saying you shouldn’t top up or convert, I’m saying you should follow the prescribed rules. If the commission says after ND you should start from 200L or HND you should start from 300L or after your HND you should do a PGD. |

sultan003: I know about the washington accord..
Take engineering council of South Africa, with HND you are registered as an engineering technician... if you like go and do masters and PhD you will remain a technician.
With B.tech you are registered as an engineering technologist while with B.engr you are registered as an engineer.
They all have their roles clearly defined and everyone is proud of their achievements, the opposite is the case in Nigeria are you serious about B.tech? Cause it’s Bachelor of technology not a diploma |
Education › Re: "Converting HND To Degree Is Absurd" By Punch Editorial Board by hakeem4(m): 8:48am On Oct 28, 2023 |
babakb: Please be realistic, HND Graduates have so much limitations in Nigeria, e.g
HND Graduates can't become Lecturers in Nigeria even if they Obtain PGD and MSc. HND Graduates are not eligible for PTDF Scholarships and all other federal and state government scholarships for MSc studies. HND Graduates are not eligible for COREN. HND Graduates are not eligible for the various Job Seeker Visas introduced by many countries. HND Graduates don't go beyond Level 14 in Federal and State civil service.
So you can see that it's not about inferiority mindset, it's about opportunities passing you buy in the Nigerian system which you can easily make right by opting for a Top Up program First hnd people are trained for industry not academia, so they can’t become lecturers. Except they get their advance study 2) hnd are qualified for Coren. It’s just that they’d be registered as technologists (which is what they’re trained for) 3) maybe those countries don’t require their skills set 4)because they’re are trained to be on field so I don’t see the reason why they’re to be placed in managerial positions |

suxex4ever: Kindly help answer these questions:
1. How long (months or days) does it take to be NSE certified, from registration to collection of certificate?
2. After going for NSE, is there any need going to Abuja for examination or interview to obtain COREN? Or we just upload NSE certificate and authomatically become COREN certified? 1) a month -3 months 2) no there’s no need |

drizzydrag: Yes... It's cheaper and less stressful... No need for moving from one place to another because of Interview or Exams.
And for me, I didn't spend up to 120K for NSE... I spent about... 10K (registration form)+ 20K (workshop) + 51,300 (Election fee) + 26K (Branch Induction) = N107,300
My COREN was: 35K (Registration) + 63K (for Election fee) = N98,000 did you not pay for your division? Like me I had to pay 10 registrations 20 workshop 26.5 NICE 15 nse branch Election fee 41.3 Totaling 112.8 so I approximated it to 120 |

*Amount paid after approval
*Total amoumt spent on the whole process
*Other general tips are also welcome
It will be great to have these informations handy to guide those about to register
Once again congrats Engineers I went through NSE route. for NSE, I spent about 120,000 naira for the whole process. The interview was virtual and the exams was done online, we had about two mock exams before the main exams. after getting my NSE I proceeded to apply to Coren, I paid 35,000 naira and I filled the forms and also uploaded the documents. The next day I saw declined due to additional details, I check the treatment log and saw that the person incharge wrote the reasons and I had to fix them. After resubmitting again I had to wait 1 week before it moved to Recommended for further vetting. After like 3 days it changed to Recommended for Council |

MindHacker9009: I know you'll laugh at this Bar Beach mami water story. I too would have done the same before but now after I was jazzed by a woman who goes to a white garment church that goes to pray at the Bar Beach and made me to marry in America, I now know that such stories are not a joke. The lady told me she knew she was going to marry me before she came to America, to me I just thought these were ladies talk, but after many years with her and after God Almighty delivered me from her, I don't take these Bar Beach mami water stories as a joke anymore. well you just gave your anecdote. This is not something that is falsifiable. |
