[s] RuggedSniper: ^^^NOTE: As of 1872 when Jaja and his followers fled from Bonny Island for Ibibioland, and the Ibibio land owners gave him permission to stay (Opobo is originally known as Ikot Abasi. Opobo roots is made up of Ibibio, Ijaw and some freed Ibo slaves like Jaja who had undergone compulsory Bonny-Ijaw initiation ceremonies to become naturalised Ijaws). A powerful Bonny war expedition of 1872 almost wiped out Jaja but for the assistance of his European trader friends who used their weapons to save Jaja, who was later kicked out by the same British in 1887... 15 years later after escaping from Bonny (for his arrogance, monopoly of trade, brutality and killings of Annangs and other upriver ethnicities who were prevented from trading with the British/Europeans via the upmarkets/Imo river route by Jaja). In Maxwell Enemuo's fantastic 2-part documentary on NTA (spanning live interviews he had with people from the 1980s to the 2000s) that I saw 5 years ago, it showed the Umuduruoha clan of Amaigbo in Imo the original place Jaja was born and captured as a 12-year-old slave. Jaja actually built a thatched house in Amaigbo when he visited from Opobo after 1872. More shocking, Jaja's father was a notorious SLAVE TRADER and historic oral accounts have it from Jaja's descendants that it was Jaja's Ibo biological father who sold him into slavery... Although Walter Ofonagoro who is also from Amaigbo denied it though he agreed that Jaja's father truly sold people as slaves... My jaws nearly hit the floor! Maxwell with his video cameras and team in a canoe filmed the Imo river slave route that the notorious Aro/Ohafia/Mbam slave dealers and religious order of Abia used to bring thousands of Ibo slaves from the Ibo interior to be soId to Ijaw middlemen who then resold them to white slave dealers or used them for domestic slave work under different influencial canoe houses in Bonny, Brass and other Kalabari-Ijaw locations. In the advanced 1920s-1970s history books that I've read on Nigerian, Ijaw and Bonny history, you CANNOT become an Amanyanabo in Bonny for instance, if you are a slave, a former slave like Jaja, or even a freeborn, EXCEPT those from royal families. How Jaja, an Ijawnised former slave in Bonny became an emergency self-acclaimed Amanyanabo or king in Opobo (an integral part of Ikot Abasi of the Ibibios in Akwa Ibom State, before Opobo was placed in Rivers Stake in the 1970s) confounds me. The British archival documents only say Jaja of Opobo is a middleman chief! Cc: PHijo, TonyeBarcanista, Lalasticlala, Mynd44 [/s] Trash! Jaja was stolen by slave raiders with connection to the Ijaw Anna Purple house on the coast. That was how he was accustomed in Ijaw. Any other addition or subtraction is balderdash. ccAmarabae |

pazienza: Yenegoa is not even Ijawland. The citizens are Epie-Attissa. Most of them are in the habit of Ijaw denial. I know them very well. I belong to multiple Ijaw groups.
Ijaw are in trouble and they don't even know it.
Epie-Attissa people are Bini descendants who still speak an Edoid language as first language till today, and Ijaw are at war with Binis for Olodiama. All it takes is Oba Bini visit to Yenegoa and Epie-Attissa declares total independence from Ijaw, then Ijaw will have no single modern city, since Ikwerres will not let them have PH. lol! I am sure they have accustomed the Epie Attissa of Yenegoa to be Ijaw. It is not domination. The people that want to dominate everybody is Igbo, as the say. Yet it is Ijaw going everywhere and accustomizing indigenous people to be Ijaw. |

Is it paper kite you want to fly? Or as on you said, a truckload of Igbo in a truck on our waterways. Brilliant! Go and ask Nigeria wat we were building during Biafra in 1960s. A very short space of Time. Today, we have money, engineers in US, Scientist and all the resources needed to put things together. Our boats wil be faster and we will certainly have planes on your head. We will make sure idiots like u pay very dearly. The sensible riverine people should be with us. We don't want betrayers in our midst. |

At least Ojukwu fought a bit before he fled to Ivory coast. We are waiting for your 'saviour talk show host' and his misguided Biafran boys brigade. UdechiHD: Imagine this. The old Aboh kingdom along with the Oru’s may even be the founders of modern Nembe. I once checked some Nembe names and I was surprised to see some Igbo names in them, and when I ask a friend he told me that it use to be much before, but that a lot of their names have overtime being changed from Igbo sounding to a more preferable Ijaw.
A lot of Nembe festivals have Oru links. 1. Owu (Owuogbo) festival in Imo west 2. Eke - Python totem etc.
This why I said that Igbos from beginning were not fortunate to have good historians from day one. All we had is a follow follow write wetin this one write. If much archeological and true history is carried out in a lot of these so-Called Ijaw areas, you’ll be shocked to the findings you’ll unearth. It is Igbo people like pazienza that is always on the run from his shadow, that dont realise IPOB understand everything. It is not everything I will say here but IPOB dont believe leaving or running is an option. If we did dat, we did be like the lazy Igbo historians. As for Nembe, I have a relative there and yes they do have Igbo sounding names. i.e. Ebiere Nembe and Ebere Igbo. |

[s] oyatz: As a neutral observer who doesn't belong to either side and who has read about many parts of this Country, I strongly think that;
1) King Jaja was born as an Igbo child, then sold into slavery. He redeemed himself and gained the confidence of the household of his master and adopted Ijaw indentity. He died as an Ijaw man.
2) Most Riverean communities from Bonny Island to Lagos to Badagry are NOT 100% homogeneous and always absorbed people from the surrounding areas, especially those who escaped the horror of slavery after the Slave Trade was abolished. [/s] DO NOT TALK ABOUT THINGS THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW. DO U KNOW WHY OGONI WERE BROUGHT TO THE BIGHT OF BIAFRA IN THE 15TH CENTURY?
