duduspace: Meanwhile, financial results for the year is out and here are the highlights:
Group turnover was £255.7 million (2010 - £379.9 million). Reduction was due to the expected lower level of property sales activity.
Arsenal Net debt reduced to 97.8m (Gross debt still stands closer to 260m as I was trying to explain to a certain knucklehead on this forum a while ago) from 135.6m last year a reduction of about 38m.
Loss from player trading of 14.7m meaning that last year we were not a selling club, but we are this year.
Group profit of 14.8m as opposed to 56m last year, difference is due to the reduced contributions from the sale of apartments. Good thing is that we still made a profit even from the footballing side alone though I'd like to see further details of how much exactly that was.
Operating profit (before exceptional costs, depreciation and player trading) in the football business was £45.8 million (2010 - £56.8 million) with commercial gains offset by increased wage costs.
In all, I'd say these results give a truer picture of where the club stands than last year's profits which were grossly inflated by the windfall from property trading, depending on how things go as well in the January transfer window, the sales of Nasri and Cesc will likely boost next year's results in terms of player trading.
I'd like to also hold up my hands and say that we had money to spend in this window and we did spend but we have not really spent most of the money from the sale of Cesc and Nasri, that I believe has gone into a warchest (what I think Gazidis meant with the statement about keeping our powder dry), we were very cash rich this summer and doing some very dirty and rough accounting, you could say we had at least 38m to spend before we did any player trading at all (we didn't reduce our gross debt and interest payments are accounted for in the Profit and loss account so that much was at least available)
In all, the club is in very sound health and has very good cash reserves, not in the class of City or Chelsea but if we do need to spend in January (meaning if top 4 finish is threatened ), the funds are definitely available to do so, we should also move into a new level of commercial income within the next 2 - 3 years after our much maligned commercial deals finally run out so the clubs long term prospects are also looking very good indeed.
Last year after the highly encouraging annual results were announced, we played at the emirates and fumbled badly against lowly West Brom, I'm hoping that lesson has been learnt and that this season we come back smiling from the grounds of an hated rival, now that would be the icing on the cake after a torrid start to the season. I hope the boys are all fired up for that. seriously . . .what do you do for a living? u get time sha |

Actually this ediot called 4ckabuntu is right on this . . .
@Debosky
get some perspective off this:
AW needs to do the unusual to get results from these boys . . .do u still wonder why Manure players are deemed forever synonymous with the hair dryer treatment?
whilst am not saying AW should do same, am saying that Wenger needs to be more honest with himself, more truthful to us and MORE RUTHLESS with these boys . . . the missing link in all of this is the BOTTLE that our boys so lack, do u think they are ever self-motivated enough to outdo themselves? The only way out might be the RUTHLESS way . . .its not rocket science, things have changed, lets stop pretending that HEAVEN IS JUST A JUNCTION AWAY BECAUSE WE CLAIM TO BE BORNAGAIN!!! There is a lot more involved! |

Education › Re: Solarin's Widow Locks Mayflower School In Protest by hannie: 1:13am On Sep 23, 2011 |
There isnt much to agree with here, neither is there much to disagree on. . . the problem is that too many people are interested in taking control of Mayflower School including the MOSA National body they actually bidded for control of the school when the issue of privatization came up . . .now the issue is this:- as at January 15th that I visited the school, I met Mama Sheila and a had a quick word with here before she went for her siesta, but had extensive discussions with Corin who shed light on so many issues that concerns the running of the school (I dont need to blurt it all out here) . . . The fundamental thing is that the previous govt had handed back the school to the Solarins, Amosun initially said he would take the school back and was made to understand why that shouldnt be, he later changed gear and promised handing over officially . . .AMOSUN SHOULD DO THE NEEDED, HAND OVER THE SCHOOL PROPERLY!! |

Education › Re: Solarin's Widow Locks Mayflower School In Protest by hannie: 11:16am On Sep 22, 2011 |
Ishikawa: Well, haven graduated from Mayflower and presently having a sibling there, I am actually very happy that the ACN government is taking back the school that the Gbenga Daniel administration handed back to the Solarins about two years ago. When the school was returned to the owners, the school fees was increased by about 600% and therefore could only be afforded by the rich. In fact I know some people personally that had to withdraw their children because of the school fees. Mayflower became a great school even as a government school. When the miltary forcefully took the school from Tai Solarin, things in Nigeria were not as bad as it is now and Government colleges were the best schools. Government taking over the school was good then and the school has actually been a Government school for many years and "Government didn't spoil the school". Insisting that the school should be private seems like insisting that UNILAG, UNIBEN, LASU, OAU should all be private.
P.S: Tai Solarin will not have objected in order to educate all, both rich and poor. erm erm . . .when did u graduate from Mayflower? its quite mind-boggling that you are looking at this issue from the 'school fees' point of view instead of the larger picture of what obtains there! when last did u visit the place? how can N50K school fees be too much for a private school? why should one not be happy that the control of the school is being taken away from Govt when what they offer teachers hired under the PTA agreement are offered N10,000 per month . . . |
