Until almost an hour ago, Jimoh Ibrahim was the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in next Saturday’s Ondo State gubernatorial election. An avid tweeter, Ibrahim had courted friends and foes alike with his tweets, which he used to warn of what he termed his “killer move” before clinching the party ticket, as well as his belief that he was unstoppable. Here are some of his tweets as captured on his twitter handle @JimohIbrahimOFR: “Right now, I have nothing to say about #OndoPDPPrimary. It would be unfair to burst their bubble so soon. My killer move will shock them!” (Aug. 22) “After 3 other aspirants withdrew from the race, I emerged the flagbearer of the AUTHENTIC PDP for Ondo governorship election with 502 votes.” (Aug. 29) “When God say YES, no process/nobody can change it. It’s time to Make Ondo Great Again! #MOGA #Ondo2016” (Oct. 15) “The supreme court proposes, but God disposes. I can never be shaken by any ruling except its from God Almighty. I am Araba NOT iroko.” (Nov. 23) “Rotimi Akeredolu and myself are the only two candidates in #ondo2016 that have the people of Ondo State at heart like our father, Pa Ajasin.” (Nov. 21) “Even though TB Joshua has seen it that I’m the next Governor of Ondo State, please let him keep it to himself for now.” (Nov. 9) “Congratulations @realDonaldTrump. Looking forward to working hand-in-hand with the US govt. to make Ondo State better. #Araba2016” (Nov. 9) http://punchng.com/jimoh-ibrahims-memorable-quotes-verdict/ |
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Wednesday said factional governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the Saturday’s Ondo election, Jimoh Ibrahim will be replaced with Eyitayo Jegede. INEC had earlier replaced Jegede’s name with Ibrahim following the ruling of an Abuja Federal High Court. The Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of the commission, Rotimi Oyekannmi, said the electoral umpire will obey the ruling of the Appeal court which set aside the Justice Okon Abang’s ruling which ordered the initial replacement of Jegede’s name with Ibrahim, Punch reports. According to Oyekanmi, the ruling of the appellate court should be served on the commission before Friday. Oyekanmi said, “Yes, the judgment as we followed, it shows that we must replace the name of Ibrahim with that of Jegede. “We will obey the judgment because this is an order coming from a superior court. We will abide by that decision. “However, we will expect that the judgment be served on us before Friday to enable us comply. When we are served, we will comply immediately. “But we are not going to shift the date of the election. We have passed that stage. The election is going to hold on Saturday, November 24 as scheduled.” http://dailypost.ng/2016/11/23/ondo-election-will-replace-jimoh-ibrahims-name-eyitayo-jegede-inec/?utm_source=snap_dp1&utm_medium=twitter

The attacker was reportedly on foot when he entered this Kabul mosque. A suicide bomber has killed at least 27 people in a suicide attack inside a Shia Muslim mosque in the Afghan capital, Kabul, police say. Another 35 were wounded in the blast at the Baqir ul Olum mosque. The attacker was on foot and blew himself up among crowds inside the building, officials said. There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Afghanistan has largely been spared levels of sectarian violence seen by Pakistan and Iraq. But Shia, who make up about 15% of the population in Afghanistan, have been attacked several times in recent months. At least 14 people died in a gun attack on a shrine in Kabul in October. An attack in July, claimed by so-called Islamic State, killed 80 people at a Shia protest march in the capital. http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2016/11/21/breaking-suicide-bomber-kills-27-in-kabul-mosque/

Indications are rife that the Federal Government might not grant approval for all the planned deep Seaports that are being built across the length and breadth of the Southern part of the country due to the financial strain that is currently telling on the nation’s economy. This is even as experts have called for the consolidation of the nation’s resources in the building of just one deep seaport. Speaking to the Nigerian Tribune exclusively, a source close to the Federal Ministry of Transport who declined not to have his name in print as he is not authorised to speak explained that not all the deep seaports will get approval for take-off after all. According to him, “there are deep seaports being built in Lagos, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States, but government is looking at focusing on just one for now. Others might not get approval after all. “With the State of the nation’s economy, the government is looking at consolidating resources in one deep seaport for now. The others will just have to wait and pray the economy picks up, before they can be granted approval,” When reminded that some of the deep seaports are Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) arrangement, he explained that government still has a role to play financially. “Yes some are PPP based deep seaports, but the public angle will be government driven. That will attract commitment in terms of financial obligations. We all know what the economy is saying right now. “The economy is down and government cannot afford to be putting its hands in so many things at the same time right now. “Both the Akwa-Ibom State government and the Lagos State government are building deep seaports in Ibaka and Badagry respectively. Meanwhile, the Lekki deep seaport is there, all on-going at the same time. Government will only grant approval for one because there is need to concentrate efforts in one area,” he explained. A former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) who also doubles as a Master Mariner, Capt Adamu Biu had advised government during the World Maritime Day 2016 celebration that efforts should be geared towards just one deep seaport. In the words of Adamu Biu, “I strongly advise that we get only one deep seaport off now because of current economic situation and even if we have private participation coming up for all these deep seaports, we know that the terms will keep changing,” http://tribuneonlineng.com/recession-uncertainty-looms-badagry-ibaka-deep-seaports/

Acting National Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Timi Frank, has challenged the National Chairman of his party, Chief John Oyegun, to publish the original minutes of the meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) where it was agreed to throw away the reports of Ondo Primary Appeal Panel. The APC spokesman also faulted the statements credited to Chief John Oyegun against the party’s National Leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, asking the chairman “why it took him two weeks to prepare lies as responses.” In a statement he signed in Abuja on Sunday, the APC chieftain said the current crisis has gotten to a stage where Chief Oyegun must publish the undoctored minutes of the meeting if he does not have any skeleton in his cupboard. “unknown to the National Chairman the last two NWC meetings were properly recorded and the record shows the contributions of each and every members of the NWC present the the meetings. “Chief Oyegun should tell the world why he brushed aside the suggestion of the National Youth Leader Hon. Dasuki Jalo who suggested that the party should submit an interim name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) pending the time a political solution will be find to the matter. But Oyegun and few others who benefitted from the corruption that produced Rotimi Akeredolu as governorship candidate of our party did not see wisdom in what the national youth leader said. “Chief Oyegun’s few responses to the many of allegations raised by our leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu can never hold water. For example, the chairman and his cohort contradicted themselves when Oyegun said there was no voting at all but he forgot that the National Vice chairman Hilliard Eta, told newsmen that there was voting, which is in agreement with the position of the party’s South-west National Vice Chairman Chief Pius Akinyelure, who also said that the NWC members actually voted on the Ondo State Governorship Appeal Panel Report. This is what Oyegun said in his statement: “Also, voting on the issue became unnecessary and never took place in view of the NWC’s rejection of the Appeal Committee’s report.” On his part, the South-south vice chairman Hilliard Eta had told newsmen that: “Before we met on the last day for the submission of name to INEC, we had met three days earlier, in that meeting, there were two reports before the NWC, that of the appeal committee was voted on. That very day, we were fourteen in number, not eleven as we have it in the media. “After that, we mandated our National Chairman and Secretary to go out and do wider consultations so that we can have a political solution to the heated environment the situation has caused the party.” According to Frank, “Now, who is deceiving who? In another clime Chief Oyegun would have voluntarily resigned as the national chairman of APC to allow someone else correct the damages he has done to the ruling party. “But it is not to late. Our national leader Tinubu has spoken that Oyegun should step aside, and that is the opinion of larger percentage of leaders and members of APC. It is expected of our National Chairman to do the needful before the evidences of many evils done to the party will be made public. According to the APC chieftain, all lovers of APC should disregard Chief Oyegun’s made to believe lies because the true position of what transpired at the NWC meeting had been truly revealed by the National Vice Chairman (South-west) Chief Pius Akinyelure. “It is surprising that Oyegun made mentioned of party constitution in the process of removing the National Chairman, but the same Oyegun has never obeyed the party’s constitution in calling for NEC meeting as expected and by allowing the Deputy National Officers to act in absence of their bosses. My case is a perfect example. Oyegun must go!” http://nigeriantimes.ng/news/oyegun-is-a-liar-apc-spokesman-dares-him-to-publish-nwc-minutes/
