Senate President Bukola Saraki says Nigerians need a president that they can be proud of. Saraki, who is seeking to contest the 2019 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said this when he visited delegates and party executives in Benue state to seek their support. The number three citizen said he wants to become the next president because “Nigeria is at a crossroad”, and he wants to unite the country. “It is time to have a leader that is capable, it is time to have a leader, when you see a president talk and stand, you will say I am proud that is my president,” Saraki said. “I need your support to become the presidential candidate of the PDP and to become the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is time that we lead. It is time that we provide leadership for this country. “See, when you need a friend, I am here at any time to support the people of Benue state. I have shown it and I will continue to show it, because today in Nigeria, we are at a cross road. We need to unite this country. We need to make everybody have a sense of belonging. “We need to ensure that we are all sitting equally on the table of Nigeria. Nobody is going to protect us more than ourselves, nobody is going to develop us more than ourselves, nobody is going to care for us more than ourselves. “It is our ambition because I know with your support, if I am there, Benue state is there. You know I will not allow any harm to come to Benue state

Younger brother to Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State, Mr. Buhari Muhammed Dankwambo, has denied reports that he had dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for opposition All Progressives Congress (APC). His elder brother, Ibrahim Dankwambo, is currently campaigning to be President on the platform of the PDP. Reacting to a report that he had abandoned his brother and crossed over to the APC, the younger Dankwambo in a statement issued through the media office of the Gombe State governor, on Monday, stated the there was no truth in the report. The statement says, “In the story, my name and company’s name were mentioned and it was claimed that as the younger brother of Gombe State governor, Babangida Muhammad Dankwambo, popularly known as BMD, I had defected to the All Progressive Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party. “The story further alleged that brother I dumped PDP despite efforts by the governor to prevail on me to remain in the party and that investigations revealed that I was under pressure from different quarters to reverse my decision and was even given juicy offers which I rejected.” “I wish to categorically state that at no time did such a thing happened. This falsehood against me and my brother, Gombe State governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, Talban Gombe, is mischievous, fictitious and malicious. It is a big surprise that such a concocted story was circulated without balance.” The governor’s brother added that it was worthy of note that his name was distorted in the report as well. https://www.today.ng/news/politics/governor-dankwambos-brother-denies-joining-apc-151625/amp?__twitter_impression=true

Glo was my worse enemy few years back. Even to a point that if we exchange num and urs is Glo network, sorry that will be the end for us cos I'll never dial that num for once. But for the pas few months GLO is my all and all. these days I jst load 3k and that will take care of both my data and calls for the month. My previous expenses with MTN for data & calls was about 7-8K monthly. Economically, Glo is the best network provider if you have Good network in your area. GLO WITH PRIDE |

Antonio Conte has today signed a new two-year contract with Chelsea Football Club. The deal is announced as he prepares to take the Premier League champions to China and Singapore on our pre-season tour of Asia, where we will face Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan. Conte said: 'I am very happy to have signed a new contract with Chelsea. We worked extremely hard in our first year to achieve something amazing, which I am very proud of. Now we must work even harder to stay at the top. 'The Chelsea fans have given me so much support since I arrived here one year ago and it is important we continue to succeed together.' Club director Marina Granovskaia added: 'Antonio achieved incredible success last season, adapting to English football very quickly and leading us to the Premier League title. 'This new contract reflects our belief that he can continue to deliver results both domestically and as we return to European competition in the Champions League.' Last season Conte lifted the Premier League title at the first attempt, guiding us to a record 30 wins in a single season, as well as a club-record 13 consecutive league victories. We also reached the FA Cup final. Since arriving in west London, the 47-year-old Italian's passion, tactical acumen and winning mentality have endeared him to Chelsea supporters all over the world and we look forward to further triumphs with Antonio at the helm. New to the coaching staff this season are two of Conte’s compatriots. Paolo Vanoli joins as assistant to the first team head coach and Davide Mazzotta will work as assistant/player analysis. https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2017/07/conte-signs-new-contract.html

The Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF), on Friday expressed support to the call by the Coalition of Northern Youth Groups for Igbos to leave the region within three months. The forum expressed “disappointment” with the Northern Governors’ Forum for disowning the youth groups. Prof. Ango Abdullahi, the NEF spokesperson told newsmen in Zaria on Friday, that it was hypocritical for the Igbos to continue to live in other parts of the country while agitating for Nigeria’s break up. Ango said: “I am disappointed in the decision taken by Northern Governors’ Forum disowning and condemning the agitation by this young agile and progressive youth groups. “Let me ask, these Northern governors, whom are they representing, are they representing spirits, ghost or people of the north? “Recently, people from eastern part of this country, specifically Igbo, were busy calling for the Sovereign State of Biafra and from all indication their leaders including governors are behind them.” According to him, whoever feels Nigeria “is not conducive for him” let him quit, adding that what the northern youth groups did was not a sin. He lamented that none of the Northern governors reacted to the persistent call for the actualisation of Biafra and other agitations. The spokesman said when Nnamdi Kanu was released on bail recently, over 100 vehicles escorted him to his residence including big personalities from the south-west and south-east. “This is somebody who has been agitating for the breakup of Nigeria but his people were behind him, therefore, I am behind the youths. “This is because the Northern youths are pushed to the wall, we have been calming them down in any event similar to this,” he noted. Speaking specifically on the Igbos, Ango said the people from the south were always pretending that people from the north were cheating them. “These people always pretend that the North is cheating them, not minding the fact that Southern Nigeria was developed by resources from the North. “Please, look for a book written by Adamu FiKa, the Waziri of FiKa on Nigeria’s budget before and after independence. “Each year, up to the time Nigeria gained its independence, none of the two regions was able to provide for itself. “I mean none of the Western and Eastern regions had the money to effectively run the affairs of its region until they get financial support from the Northern region,” he said. He recalled that the tradition had remained during the colonial masters and nothing changed after they left the country. Ango said it was the same money from the North that was used to construct Nigerian Railways, refineries and other facilities. “First oil exploration was conducted using money from groundnut pyramid, cotton, hide and skin among other cash crops from Northern Nigeria. “However, these people tend to forget all these goodies provided by the North toward ensuring the unity and corporate existence of Nigeria. “They always look down on us, feeling that Northerners are parasites in this country,” he said in a report by NAN https://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2017/06/09/must-go-northern-elders-back-youths/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter

The Nigerian Government has finally released details of the first tranche of N516.38bn reimbursement made to the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory from the Paris Club debt refund. According to a statement by Salisu Danbatta, director of information in the Ministry of Finance on Friday in Abuja, five states got the highest amount of refund from the Federal Government. The states are Rivers N34.92bn, Delta N27.6bn, Akwa Ibom N25.98bn, Bayelsa N24.89bn and Kano N21.7bn. The government had initially turned down repeated requests to release the payment details. The payment totals N516.38 billion. The Federal Capital Territory got the lowest share with just N1.3 million. “The funds were released to state governments as part of the wider efforts to stimulate the economy and were specifically designed to support states in meeting salary and other obligations, thereby alleviating the challenges faced by workers,” the statement said. The statement said the payments were made upon the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari on November 21 2016. The money was supposed to be used to clear a backlog of salaries. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating it’s usage. “The releases were conditional upon a minimum of 50 per cent being applied to the payment of workers’ salaries and pensions. The Federal Ministry of Finance is reviewing the impact of these releases on the level of arrears owed by state governments. “A detailed report is being compiled for presentation to the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, as part of the process for approval for the release of any subsequent tranches,” the statement read. Worried by the spate of abandonment, poor execution, distortion and duplication of development projects undertaken by Federal government Agencies and Commissions , Akwa Ibom State Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel has called for collaboration between the Agencies and benefiting state governments in the execution of development projects to ensure quality service delivery. Governor Emmanuel made the call while fielding questions from Government House Correspondents shortly on arrival from Abuja at the Ibom International Airport. He said that the trend is worrisome to the Governors of the benefiting states and that such collaboration has become expedient to harness development and ensure quality control in project execution. His words : “we in the Niger Delta are frowning at the way Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is distorting our development programmes. In Akwa Ibom State for instance, we have over one hundred project interventions at various levels that have not been completed by NDDC. Some of them are 400m, 500m and very few are up to 5km of roads.” “They just execute the earth works with no drainage and the roads are not completed but leave untold hardship on the people. So we are calling on the office of the Secretary to the Federal Government to prevail on the Federal Agencies and Commissions to sit with the state government and plan how to utilise the money in line with the development vision of each state ” He explained that the state government is maintaining Federal roads which have not been completed and mentioned the Abak – Ikot Abasi, Aba – Ikot Ekpene roads as well as transmission line between between Ikot Ekpene and Ikot Abasi Local Government Areas which have been abandoned for 6years and urged NDDC to complete the projects rather than distort the state government’s development plan. “We hear that NDDC is planning to open more roads, if they do that we would resist it because that would distort our development plan. We have a structure and systems that are running. Let them come under that structure so that we can anchor development together.” Governor Emmanuel stated. The Governor maintained that Governors of the Niger Delta states are of the view that similar approach should be evolved in the management of ecological funds ” if they are going to help in the development the state they should partner rather than distort the laid out development plan” . http://akstrending.com/gov-emmanuel-tasks-fed-govt-on-collaboration-in-execution-of-devt-projects/
