Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Saturday, vowed to lead the coalition that would unseat President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019. The former President, however, advised the 39 political parties and associations, which signed a Memorandum of Understanding in a grand alliance ahead of general elections last Wednesday, to be cautious of external forces which he believed might want to destabilise the arrangement. Obasanjo spoke during a closed-door meeting with a 21-man team, led by the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus, which visited him in Abeokuta on Saturday. The meeting was held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, the Ogun State captial. Among those at the meeting were the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the PDP, Senator Walid Jibrin; a former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George; a former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and members of the National Working Committee of the PDP. A source at the meeting, who spoke with one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity, said the ex-President told the gathering that he was ready to lead the coalition that would sack Buhari in the 2019 presidential election. Obasanjo was also said to have told them that he played a prominent role in the formation of the coalition that met in Abuja last week where the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding to field a single presidential candidate in 2019. The source added, “The former President asked the attendees (at the MoU signing) to get ready for a fight in 2019 and that he is ready to lead the coalition. “He told us that it would not be a tea party, and that we should be ready to field a single presidential candidate and that all others would line up behind such candidate. “He also warned us against saboteurs and that we must be ready to make sacrifices.” It was also gathered that the former President told his visitors why he left the PDP. According to multiple sources at the meeting, Obasanjo said he left the former ruling party when a sitting governor was busy abusing him and the leaders of the party refused to caution him. “He said he decided to leave because the governor (name withheld ) was abusing him and we refused to caution him. He said the governor was also mobilising people to remove him as the chairman of the BoT. He said he decided to leave when we didn’t do anything about these,” the source added. However, the media aide to the ex-President, Kehinde Akinyemi, in a statement after the meeting, quoted Obasanjo to have advised his guests that all members of the political parties in the PDP-led alliance “must be cautious of fake news, rumours, blackmail and seeds of discord that may be sown among them from external quarters.” The PDP, African Democratic Congress, the Reformed All Progressives Congress and 36 other political parties had, last week, signed a MoU to forge a grand alliance ahead of the 2019 general elections. Obasanjo, who expressed confidence in the arrangement, advised that the individuality and independence of each political party must be respected by all parties concerned. He had added that “it is also desirable that in the process of implementing the MoU to achieve the set objective, solidarity and focus on the objective must be maintained. “The MOU for grand alliance is what it says – a grand alliance. It is not a merger nor an absorption of any political party by any political party.” According to the statement, in the delegation were some members of the NWC of the PDP, who apologised to the former President for the way he was treated by the former ruling party. While the former President told them he would no longer play partisan politics, he stated that his doors would remain opened to those who might need his advice on the way to move the country forward. While speaking with journalists after the meeting, Secondus said though Obasanjo was no more a member of the PDP, his advice would help the party as the 2019 elections draw near. He said, “Obasanjo is a national leader in this country. He is a father of the nation. So, we came to consult him. Our deliberation, although a little bit private, is connected to the 2019 polls. “Yes, it is true Baba is no longer a member of the PDP, but he is a father of the nation. I believe that regardless of political parties, his direction is highly needed now to rescue Nigeria.” George equally said the grand alliance was needed to rescue the country from the precipice, saying good managers were needed to manage the affairs of the country better. http://saharareporters.com/2018/07/15/obasanjo-pledges-lead-coalition-against-buhari-explains-pdp-exit |
"Since Buhari emerged presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in late 2014, Fayose has consistently rebuked him for his age, once going as far as saying Nigeria was about to go the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua way. Even when Buhari clocked 75 in December 2017, Fayose couldn’t resist a dig, including in his congratulatory message: “I am not a fan of an old man and this is not personal and peculiar to President Buhari. Ekiti State Governor-Elect, has listed “respect for leaders” as some of the Ekiti values he hopes to restore when he assumes governorship of the state for a second term, beginning from October. Although he didn’t say so expressly, he was probably referring to the outgoing Governor of the state, Ayodele Fayose, who seemed to relish every chance to have a go at 75-year-old President Muhammadu Buhari. Since Buhari emerged presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in late 2014, Fayose has consistently rebuked him for his age, once going as far as saying Nigeria was about to go the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua way. Yar’Adua was the President who assumed office in May 2007 but died in May 2010 after battling terminal illness, which included a lengthy, unlawful medical trip abroad. Fayose was about the fiercest critic of Buhari’s own extended medical vacation abroad in 2017, even though the President duly handed over to his deputy. Even when Buhari clocked 75 in December 2017, Fayose couldn’t resist a dig, including in his congratulatory message: “I am not a fan of an old man and this is not personal and peculiar to President Buhari. We need an agile president come 2019.” It appears Fayemi took special note of all those utterances, as he said while addressing reporters in Isan-Ekiti on Sunday, shortly after he was declared the winner of the governorship election: “The victory of this election, I believe, is for reclaiming the land and restoring the values of our people. “Our values in Ekiti are respect for our leaders, commitment to our people, non-brigandage, non-criminality and so on.” Fayemi also dedicated his victory to the people, arguing that it is indicative of how the 2019 elections would turn out. “This victory is a victory for all, it is not a victory for only Gov. Kayode Fayemi, it is a victory for all the Ekiti people,” he said. “It was not just an Ekiti election; I want people to understand that this election has a lot of significance to the future of democracy in Nigeria. “The fact that we have witnessed a free, fair and transparent election process has huge importance for similar exercises like Osun state next door to us and eventually the national elections in February 2019.” http://saharareporters.com/2018/07/15/%E2%80%98i%E2%80%99ll-restore-ekiti-man%E2%80%99s-respect-leaders%E2%80%99-%E2%80%94-has-fayemi-had-sly-dig-fayose |

Atiku Abubakar, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, says the Muhammadu Buhari administration is the most corrupt of the five governments that have ruled since the country's return to democracy in 1999. The former Vice President made this assertion on Tuesday in Abakaliki while addressing the crowd at his campaign rally. “What is happening today in our country is in contravention with all our provisions of our constitution. In our federation, we are supposed to have an inclusive government but you know that this Federal Government is not inclusive," he said. "You know that this Federal Government is not united; you know that this Federal Government is incompetent; you know that this Federal Government is more corrupt than any government we have come through since 1999. “So, let nobody come and deceive you on corruption; they are more corrupt than any government that I know since 1999 and we shall be revealing their level of corruption. Fighting corruption alone is not the only responsibility of government. "Our unemployment has accelerated high and there has never a time we had more than 11 million people, young people, young women, thrown out of job. Today, we have more than 11 million unemployed people. Today, we have witnessed much insecurity in this country. Today, we are witnessing high inflation the APC government has brought to us in this country.” He also expressed his confidence that the newly formed coalition of political parties would vote Buhari out of office in 2019. He said: “On Tuesday, 40 political parties came together to meet themselves to present one candidate for presidential election. The coalition is going to have one candidate for presidential election, one candidate for governor, one candidate for senator, one candidate for House of Reps, one candidate for House of Assembly, one candidate for party chairman. "We need this alliance because what I have seen in the last three years is what I have not seen in the last 35 years in this country. Therefore, we are determined, we are united and we are ready to make sure that in the next election whether state or national or federal, we will kick out APC in every state in this country. “We have never experienced the level of poverty we are facing today. They are selling crude oil around $70 per barrel; when we came in 1999 it was around $10 per barrel. I want to assure you that your party is ready to take that power but we can only do so through your support and your unity of purpose. You are our bosses, if you tell us to go right we will go, if you tell us to go left we will go but at the end of the day you must accept responsibility if you take us to the wrong direction." http://saharareporters.com/2018/07/11/buhari-administration-more-corrupt-any-government-1999-says-atiku Lalasticlala |
The outgoing Governor cried when speaking with Channels Television, saying he was in pains after he was “shot at” and manhandled by security agents. Fayose then broke into tears, lamenting “I cannot take this anymore” before crawling away from the camera Ayodele Fayose, Governor of Ekiti State, on Wednesday shed tears on national TV, continuously wailing “I am in pains”, “I am in severe pains”. The outgoing Governor cried when speaking with Channels Television, saying he was in pains after he was “shot at” and manhandled by security agents. Fayose then broke into tears, lamenting “I cannot take this anymore” before crawling away from the camera. Those tears came minutes after he addressed a crowd of PDP supporters, appearing in bandages on his right arm and a neck brace. “I call on the international; community; Ekiti is under siege,” he had said. “How can I be Governor of Ekiti State and be treated like this in my own country? My people, I call on all of you: stand and remain standing. “I will go back to the hospital for a while to rest… I am having a lot of pains, but I prefer to bear these pains because of you. I prefer to bear these pains because of you…” Earlier, Lere Olayinka, spokesman of the Governor, had said his principal lost consciousness and was taken to Government House clinic after policemen fired teargas canisters into the Government House. Olusola Kolapo, Fayose’s deputy and the Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, had also said earlier that he was assaulted in his shoulder region by the policemen while his boss was also beaten. Although SaharaReporters confirmed that mobile policemen fired teargas canisters to break up a PDP road rally for its candidate in Saturday’s election, it has yet to verify claims the Governor was shot. http://saharareporters.com/2018/07/11/breaking-fayose-cries-national-tv-says-im-severe-pains Watch the video HERE |
