BuddahMonk: Obiano is nothing but a f00l, he is floating another transport company prolly to give Aguleri people more jobs and loot our commonwealth. What happened to ANIDS buses and consolidation of the sucess, he is just duplicating offices to spite Obi. Serious i hate this government and their pomposity and arrogancy, Obiano and his clannish kinsmen are too pompous to believe that they have conquered Anambra State, whether Obiano and his handlers like it or not Pita Obi we know, even if Pita Obi endorses a goat tomorrow i will vote the person because i know the so called Obiano is on self-destruct, a clannish, pompous, arrogant and flamboyant person. i have been following things happening in the state for a while and am losing interest in this government, this government is wasteful and flamboyant. He is just moving everywhere ravishing money and making useless and unsolicited comments with his bullish wife. You went to India and bought Tata Bus instead of getting from Innoson, states like Enugwu and FCT are using Innoson buses, Obiano will fail in Anambra and am seeing that happen because he is too proud to be corrected, he is too flamboyant to be prudent in resource management, i don't want to know who is deceiving him and who is not but i know he is clannish and pompous. lets see how he will be kicked out, let him continue to bite the fingers that fed him. useless government Was ANIDS a limited liability company, was it making a loss or a profit? BuddahMonk: This is one of the reasons why we are being insulted by ofe people, this is what Obijackson is building in Lagos yet Igboland is begging for highrise office buildings that will trigger white collar jobs and make our cities look nice. Obi Jackson is building a 500MW closed cycle gas turbine plant in Okija. People like Obi Jackson want to invest in Anambra, but they are being frustrated. centje: ^^^in as much as I limit my comment on this current events. I must say that the major problem to GEJ defeat wasn't from the south west, the main problem was the... Northern PDP To me, they had a Northern agenda not PDP agenda. Naturally, considering the candidates and supporters(buhari, osibanjo, Tinubu) you would expect south west votes divided. Recall that same south west supported GEJ heavily, while middle belt helped GEJ to get required votes in the north. Second major factor was wishful attitude of south east and south south(easterners)...a lot of easterners, instead of coming out to vote, sat in the comfort of their room watching election on TV and wishing GEJ wins. There're many other factors here, allocation of polling units, the bomb scare strategy in Enugu and Anambra really worked and kept potential GEJ supporters indoors, heavy crack in PDP[godfathers in PDP where being sidelined, voting in Benue was a protest voting against PDP...], possibly moles in PDP, determination of GEJ to keep Nigeria peaceful and so on...
On the other hand, the PDP loss at presidential level will not so much affect Ifeanyi winning in Enugu, however, people must come out to vote and be determined to do so even in the mist of threat of violence, because the recent alliance between Chimaroke group(PDC), who is currently protesting seriously in Enugu, and Ideke group(APC) is a possible source of violence in peaceful Enugu. Jonathan did nothing to "energize his base". He fumbled on the Second Niger Bridge & had very little to give Ndigbo for all the support they gave him in 2011. Many Igbos decided to rather stay at home than vote. Meanwhile Jonathan wasted his time trying to appease Northerners (who weren't going to vote for him anyways). |

Zonacom: Are you serious? just the wages bill? How come state governments who receive around that amount monthly from the Federal government are able to pay wages and still carry out some projects?
With 3.3bn IGR + about 2bn federal allocation, i believe the state govt can continue the projects on ground, though it might take time. Moreover, Anambra is getting economically stronger. When 3.3bn monthly IGR is met, a higher target will be set. Read this: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/05/anambra-calls-for-review-of-federal-allocation/ |

cjrane: You are absolutely right. The first year of every new administration is always lost to inertia, confusion and lack of decisive direction. It usually takes about one or two years for a new governor to find traction and define his path.
It would be an excellent idea to keep Sullivan around the loop for about one year to ensure the tempo of development in Enugu does not stop. It takes a great mind as a governor to agree to such in the interest of his state over personal ego. I don't think that applies to Obiano. He started very strongly, with a clear direction - & he hasn't done up to one year. |

He knows his onions when it comes to architecture and construction. He actually advised me never to visit that mall if i go to Nigeria because it was dangerous. His reason was simple. The plan was to make the roof a parking lot, instead of the normal practice of using the ground floor as the parking lot and the first and second floors as the mall and cinema. This individual cited malls in many parts of Africa which used the ground floor as parking lot and the mall upstairs. I also learnt from him today that dead weight such as stationary cars on bridges were an engineering nightmare which could cause the best constructed bridge anywhere in the world to collapse. He did explain a few things about the danger being worse on a hot day when the outside roof is packed with cars and the inside of the mall is air-conditioned.The marked temperature difference on the two surfaces which interacts with how the materials behave under stress. His explanations got me concerned and a bit worried.
So i decided to ask the question here. In the light of many structural collapsing of buildings, is it wise to make the roof of a shopping mall a car park? Should concerned citizens reach out to the executive leadership now to use the ground floor as parking and not the roof? What do you guys think? Please read this carefully: Recently opened Adeniran Ogunsanya Shopping Mall is a modern shopping mall (one of the new additions to Lagos’s growing investment in retail sector) sitting on 22,000 square metres of land with 150 shop spaces measuring 70-80 square metres each, making it the largest shopping mall in Lagos. If I'm correct, the roof of the Shoprite Mall in Surulere is also used as its parking lot. Please discount all these "ITK" (I too know people). There are quite a few structures with the roof as parking lots in Lagos. Mega Plaza in Lagos has a structure which is totally dedicated for parking (it is several stories). It stands and is in no danger of collapsing - in fact, we use it every day as the parking lot for our office. Sometimes our cars are parked on it from 6 am to 7pm. |

cjrane: Making Enugu an international holiday haven must be taken very seriously. As well as building a coal powered power plant to ensure regular electricity in the city. We must complete that abandoned International Conference Center building and the Hotel and Igbo history museum planned for that location. These will help build on conference tourism as well as bring people to see ancient Igbo cultural tools, agricultural tools, gods, clothing, mud house design, Igbo village design etc displayed in a museum. This also helps us preserve these cultural things for future generations to see as we modernize.
I wish Nike lake is developed for leisure boating as an added attraction for couples coming into Enugu. This is Nike Lake, I'm not sure it is that big.

Myluv1: I don't think onitsha metro is well defined in that case because development is still spreading. Onitsha metro according to same source (wikipedia) has a little over 1billion population as at 2001(13yrs ago). If we had thinking governors, they'd have found ways to de-congest Onitsha. The most logical solution would be to build infrastructure to link Onitsha with towns towards the North. We don't have thinking governors, so Onitsha is expanding in the direction of Asaba. |
Politics › Re: Anambra light of the nation, eastern economy power house. by HappyJoe: 7:24pm On Jan 02, 2015 |
Myluv1: I will address the rest of the post if you answer this: Which of those cities you had present Onitsha's population when they were planning as you said? For example: Manchester- Area: 44.65 sq miles (115.6 km²), 2013 population of 514,417 Onitsha- Area: 13.97 sq miles (36.19 km²), 2001 population of 511,000
See why I said you are not being realistic. If you don't consider such statistics when planning all because of status this status that, then you are definitely planning to fail. I don't think the 511,000 population of Onitsha is confined to the 36.19 square km of "Onitsha proper". We're also talking about Obosi, Nkpor etc. I think Manchester here refers to the Manchester Metropolitan Area. |

If you see a stretch road without gutter then know that you're traveling on the hilly/sloppy portion of that road and you're likely to see gutter after that portion. It's a norm from past governors and even this present one cos I have seen a road he awarded at aguleri and they are constructing that road on a fast pace. gists: According to obj (the then president) "political sharia will a natural death". And true, it did die a natural death due to the way and manner obj handled the situation. God bless you for bringing this up as some of your folks want us to believe that northerners hate gej because he is a southern christian. Its refreshing to see that you guys admit that obj (another southern christian) also faced challenges but he dealt with the situation and not tried to use religious sentiment to divide the nation in order to return in 2003. Anybody who thinks "political sharia died a natural death" is naive. Go to Kano, ask them how many "religious policemen" they have. "Political Sharia" is a wedge issue that plays a role in every election in the North. Finally, the way Obasanjo treated "political sharia" wasn't ideal - he pretended that if he ignored it, it would go away. It didn't and it hasn't. That is a topic for another day. But just remember this: 1 - 5,000 people died during the sharia riots in Kaduna in 2000. Kaduna is still a divided city today; Christians and Muslims live apart, one enduring legacy of political sharia - if in doubt, travel to Kaduna and see. Many people in the South are so ignorant of the issues in Northern Nigeria, it isn't worthwhile even engaging with them. |

Cuche: In agreement with Buddamonk's remark above, Anambra deserves more University(s) to at least absorb the growing population of its people seeking admission yearly. It is a need We have many proposed private Uni s especially coming from Churches, but how many of these private owners have the financial muscle to bankroll such operations. It is either the State Government finds a way of part owning some of the struggling institutions or pruning them to colleges with affiliations to reputable uni s. We were told a donation of N5b was given to ANSU Uli by the previous administration , the impact that money would have made there was overridden by the rumours that a large portion of that money never reached the institution. And that was more like it, paper donations A case for more money pumped towards the expansion of the facilities and structures in ANSU with a view to increasing the number of fully accredited programmes and increasing the admission quota for the good of our teeming jambites. The State can also own colleges tailored to the needs and future plans e.g A college of Petroleum Studies with Aguleri oil exploitation in view, A college of (Mechanical)Engineering studies with Nnewi automobiles in view, A college of Arts and Crafts with the projected growths in our tourism sector . All these can be located near the Igbariam College. We have a very long stretch of table land in that axis of Awka North upto our boundary with parts of Nsukka. I mean table land I think the past administrations deserves some commendations for the improvements at the college of Agriculture, the achievements from that school is tangible Yes, we need more universities - and we need a better model to fund them. The money is there, but what is lacking is people with the right ideas in the right places. |
