The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, wants to audit the bank accounts of all political parties in Nigeria. The commission has put out an invitation for proposals to audit the bank accounts of the parties for the year 2016. The Lagos State Government has prosecuted a paramilitary officer attached to the Lagos State Task Force for stealing a 'Phantom 6 Techno' mobile phone belonging to one Pastor Kingsley of Christ Church, Fadeyi, Lagos. SP Egbeyemi, Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force disclosed that Mr. Moses Prince (34yrs) a paramilitary officer deployed from 'Man'O' War' to the Agency in October, 2016 stole a 'Phantom Six Techno' mobile phone valued at N150,000 during an enforcement operation carried out at No 22, Ereko Street, Fadeyi, Lagos. The Chairman explained further that the enforcement operation was recently carried out in continuation of the arrest of notorious miscreants and hoodlums who engaged in a bloody fracas that engulfed Idi-Oro area of Mushin. He noted that the accused (Mr. Moses Prince) voluntarily confessed to have stolen the said mobile phone (Phantom Six Techno) from a kitchen of the building where enforcement was carried out by the Agency. SP Egbeyemi revealed that the Agency had carried out series of seminars where officers of the Agency were lectured to shun criminal activities and be upright in the course of discharging their legitimate duties and assured that any acts of criminality from officers would not be tolerated by the government. Meanwhile, Magistrate Lateef Owolabi of the Lagos State Mobile Court at Oshodi sentenced the accused (Mr. Moses Prince) to one year imprisonment without any option of fine after he pleaded 'Guilty' to a one-count charge levied against him for 'Stealing a Phantom 6 Techno Mobile Phone while in discharge of a lawful duty with the Lagos State Task Force' contrary to Section 258 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State. Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari has said that his husband will soon return home to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir in Maitaiama Mosue, Abuja. Recall that Hajiya Aisha left for London about five days ago, to be with the President. She gave the update on the President’s health in a message to the 23rd Annual Ramadan Lecture of Ansar-ud-deen Society of Nigeria (ADS) held in Abuja. The First Lady, who left for London about five days ago, was represented at the lecture by her Senior Special Assistant on Administration, Dr. Hajo Sani. “My husband is recovering very fast. And very soon, he will return to the country to resume his official duties,” she said. “I thank Nigerians for their prayers for my husband. First of all, how do you even have the heart to beat a pregnant woman to the point of death? That’s exactly what happened in the village of Falu in Guyuk LGA. The 32-year-old woman was beaten with sticks until she died, all because they suspected her of being responsible of some sinister occurrences in the town. This sad incident was confirmed to newsmen by the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa, Mr. Moses Jitoboh. Jitoboh said:“ She was attacked with sticks, rope and killed by five suspects on the allegation that the deceased was a witch, who was responsible for the deaths and sickness of persons in the town of Falu. The theme of this year’s commemoration was tagged “hope, healing and dignity for all”, and it featured several activities aimed at giving hope to girls and women around Africa. From 23rd to 25th May, Mrs. Linus participated in a span of activities which included the screening of her award winning movie ‘DRY’, a private luncheon with African Ambassadors in the DRC and a visit to women repaired of fistula at the Biamba Marie Motombo Hospital in Kinshasa. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has reiterated that the Federal Government will protect and reward whistle-blowers who provide information that leads to the recovery of stolen funds or assets. In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday, he said FG will protect the identity of all whistle-blowers, whether in the public or the private sector, and also ensure that the information they provide is kept secret. ''Whistle-blowers have nothing to fear, because the committee has put in place the necessary measures to safeguard those who give useful information. As a matter of fact, whistle-blowers have everything to gain and nothing to lose,'' he said. The warehouse of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in its office premises in Oshodi area of Lagos state was on Saturday razed by fire. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the fire incident started from the power house around 3.15pm. A statement by Adesina Tiamiyu, general manager of LASEMA said, “Investigation at the incident scene of fire outbreak at Nafdac office, Oshodi revealed that the fire started at about 3.15 pm today Saturday 18th March 2017. “The inferno started from the power house, escalating to the nearby warehouse where chemicals were stored.” The statement added that “other buildings including the administrative building housing the central laboratory complex of the Agency were salvaged by the combined team of LASEMA and Lagos State Fire Service.
