The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, wants to audit the bank accounts of all political parties in Nigeria.


The commission has put out an invitation for proposals to audit the bank accounts of the parties for the year 2016.

The move is according to the Nigerian constitution and is to prevent discrepancies in the activities of the parties.

The Lagos State Government has prosecuted a paramilitary officer attached to the Lagos State Task Force for stealing a 'Phantom 6 Techno' mobile phone belonging to one Pastor Kingsley of Christ Church, Fadeyi, Lagos.



SP Egbeyemi, Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force disclosed that Mr. Moses Prince (34yrs) a paramilitary officer deployed from 'Man'O' War' to the Agency in October, 2016 stole a 'Phantom Six Techno' mobile phone valued at N150,000 during an enforcement operation carried out at No 22, Ereko Street, Fadeyi, Lagos.



The Chairman explained further that the enforcement operation was recently carried out in continuation of the arrest of notorious miscreants and hoodlums who engaged in a bloody fracas that engulfed Idi-Oro area of Mushin.



He noted that the accused (Mr. Moses Prince) voluntarily confessed to have stolen the said mobile phone (Phantom Six Techno) from a kitchen of the building where enforcement was carried out by the Agency.

SP Egbeyemi revealed that the Agency had carried out series of seminars where officers of the Agency were lectured to shun criminal activities and be upright in the course of discharging their legitimate duties and assured that any acts of criminality from officers would not be tolerated by the government.



Meanwhile, Magistrate Lateef Owolabi of the Lagos State Mobile Court at Oshodi sentenced the accused (Mr. Moses Prince) to one year imprisonment without any option of fine after he pleaded 'Guilty' to a one-count charge levied against him for 'Stealing a Phantom 6 Techno Mobile Phone while in discharge of a lawful duty with the Lagos State Task Force' contrary to Section 258 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State.



Magistrate Owolabi said the judgment was meant to deter other public officers from engaging in criminal activities for any reason at all.

Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari has said that his husband will soon return home to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir in Maitaiama Mosue, Abuja.



Recall that Hajiya Aisha left for London about five days ago, to be with the President.


She gave the update on the President’s health in a message to the 23rd Annual Ramadan Lecture of Ansar-ud-deen Society of Nigeria (ADS) held in Abuja.


The First Lady, who left for London about five days ago, was represented at the lecture by her Senior Special Assistant on Administration, Dr. Hajo Sani.





“My husband is recovering very fast. And very soon, he will return to the country to resume his official duties,” she said.


“I thank Nigerians for their prayers for my husband. Please, do not relent in your prayers.”


The message sparked shouts of Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!! Allahu Akbar!!!(God is great) by the Muslim faithful.


She added:”The President will be back very soon.”


She said she was “hopeful of observing this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival at the ADS Mosque in Maitama as she had been doing even before getting into office.”

First of all, how do you even have the heart to beat a pregnant woman to the point of death? That’s exactly what happened in the village of Falu in Guyuk LGA.

The 32-year-old woman was beaten with sticks until she died, all because they suspected her of being responsible of some sinister occurrences in the town.

This sad incident was confirmed to newsmen by the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa, Mr. Moses Jitoboh. Jitoboh said:“ She was attacked with sticks, rope and killed by five suspects on the allegation that the deceased was a witch, who was responsible for the deaths and sickness of persons in the town of Falu.

Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime. They are; Abraham Adamu, 18, Malachi Yilafane, 35, Thomas Aji, 54, Zakariya Chorum, 56 and Miss Newana Ilihal, 20.

UNFPA Ambassador Stephanie Linus Visits Democratic Republic of Congo on International Day to End Obstetric Fistula



As part of her commitment to raising awareness on maternal health issues, the UNFPA Regional Ambassador for West and Central Africa Stephanie Linus visited the Democratic Republic of Congo in commemoration of the International Day to End Obstetrical Fistula.



The theme of this year’s commemoration was tagged “hope, healing and dignity for all”, and it featured several activities aimed at giving hope to girls and women around Africa.



From 23rd to 25th May, Mrs. Linus participated in a span of activities which included the screening of her award winning movie ‘DRY’, a private luncheon with African Ambassadors in the DRC and a visit to women repaired of fistula at the Biamba Marie Motombo Hospital in Kinshasa.



While speaking to the Ambassadors, Mrs. Linus requested them to work through their governments to do more for the girl child with emphasis on education, ending child marriage, ending obstetric fistula, improving access to health care.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has reiterated that the Federal Government will protect and reward whistle-blowers who provide information that leads to the recovery of stolen funds or assets.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday, he said FG will protect the identity of all whistle-blowers, whether in the public or the private sector, and also ensure that the information they provide is kept secret.

''Whistle-blowers have nothing to fear, because the committee has put in place the necessary measures to safeguard those who give useful information. As a matter of fact, whistle-blowers have everything to gain and nothing to lose,'' he said.

The Minister said any whistle-blower whose information leads to the recovery of up to 1 billion Naira will receive 5% of the amount; that the reward for any amount between 1 and 5 billion Naira will be 5% for the first 1 billion Naira and 4% of the remaining 4 billion Naira, and that any amount over 5 billion Naira will attract 2.5% reward.

The warehouse of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in its office premises in Oshodi area of Lagos state was on Saturday razed by fire.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the fire incident started from the power house around 3.15pm.

A statement by Adesina Tiamiyu, general manager of LASEMA said, “Investigation at the incident scene of fire outbreak at Nafdac office, Oshodi revealed that the fire started at about 3.15 pm today Saturday 18th March 2017.

“The inferno started from the power house, escalating to the nearby warehouse where chemicals were stored.”

The statement added that “other buildings including the administrative building housing the central laboratory complex of the Agency were salvaged by the combined team of LASEMA and Lagos State Fire Service. Officials of NAFDAC also rendered necessary support for the intervention.

“The fire has been put under control as damping exercise is presently ongoing.”

He said an investigation will be carried out to ascertain the cause of the fire.

Nigeria's former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani Kayode, has condemned Governor Nasir El Rufai for the explosive memo he sent to President Muhammadu Buhari last year which was recently leaked to the media.

According to him, what El Rufai did to Buhari was coldblooded.

Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria's acting president said corruption is prevalent among political elites in Nigeria because of the high premium placed on wealth in the country.



Inaugurating the Private Sector Advisory Group for the Sustainable Development Goals at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Osinbajo said,

“We have decided as an elite in this country that wealth is a measure of worth. It is a decision we made consciously or unconsciously.


“The political elite have decided that wealth is a measure of worth and that is why you find so much corruption among the political elite. Even the religious elite believe that it is a blessing of God.


“There are some societies that have decided that the value of human beings is in their contribution to the society. Those societies, of course, have done better than those who have decided that wealth, no matter how it was obtained, is a measure of worth.


“I think it is important if our elite decide that dealing with poverty is worth the while and that it will measure whether or not we are serious about our society.”



“At the end of our lives, the question that will be asked is what is the impact that we made on people’s lives. Nobody will be measured by how much money we made or the positions we held.


“A lot of our people in this country hang their hopes on us. They look up to us and believe we can do it and despite all the failures and the false starts, our people especially the poor and the vulnerable still believe that these elite will and can deliver. Let us therefore take this as a personal responsibility to our people to do something profound that will make a huge difference in the lives of our people.


“This is why I am so excited about this coming together of the public and private sector to ensure that the Sustainable Development Goals are realised in our time and that nobody is left behind,”

Osinbajo said.
