That time of the month is a dreaded period for a lot of women who have since complained that their cramps are so painful, they are comparable to heart attacks.

Apparently doctors have no agreed with this hypothesis. According to John Guillebaud, Professor of reproductive health at University College London he said in an interview with Quartz that period pains are so excruciating and he’s had patients who have described the cramping pain as “almost as bad as having a heart attack.”

While some women don’t have much of a problem with the cramps, others, especially those that suffer from Dysmenorrhea, also known as painful periods, aren’t so lucky as the pain is almost so bad, it’s unbearable.

Women have long held that menstrual cramps are a pain that can’t quite be compared to anything else.

The discourse found its way to Twitter with women describing the pain sometimes as even more than that of a heart attack. Many of the women in their tweets complained that they’ve had periods so bad, that they were unable to move and some have even claimed to have passed out from the pain.

Most women were glad that at least their ordeal is finally being understood.

It’s no longer considered a big deal to see entertainers get involved in politics and get appointed into political office.

Taxify drivers are currently protesting around Lagos, carrying placards with inscription “We are not rapists,” “We are not kidnappers,” “We are partners in this business,” “No driver partners, No Taxify, No Uber, No Riders,” “We need respect from riders,” among others.

The protest is coming on the heels of recent events where actress Dorcas Shola Fapson accused a driver of attempting to kidnap and rape her. The driver, in his response, claimed she refused to set her destination, and that resulted in a fracas between both of them with the actress using pepper spray on him.

The driver, through his lawyers, had also threatened to sue her for defamation of character if she doesn’t issue an apology.

The Lagos State Government on Thursday said it has released the sum of N5.563billion to contractors to flag off the construction of the 181 roads spread across the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the State.

In a statement by the State’s Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, the Government said the construction of the 181 council roads was in fulfillment of the promise by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to open up more inner roads across the State following the successful delivery of the 114 roads in September 2016.

According to Akinsanya, the roads would be constructed in phases, noting that phase one will see the construction of one road each in the 20 LGs and 37 LCDAs of which contractors have been mobilised to move to site immediately.

The Commissioner said the sum of N5,563,697,382.00 released was 30 percent payment for the construction of the 57 roads while the total cost of the roads stands at N18,545,657,940.00.

“The roads will be done in phases, already phase one has been released. This phase involves 57 roads cutting across the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas.
To enhance immediately mobilization to site, 30 percent has been given to all the contractors upfront. This is in line with the magnanimity of Governor Ambode’s administration to ensure service delivery all year round,” Akinsanya said.
He said due process was observed in awarding the contracts, adding that bids were opened on November 1, 2017 after which they were evaluated and considered.

He said there are 57 contractors involved in the first phase of the construction with a mandate to deliver in six months.

“Governor Ambode is totally committed to ensuring that Lagosians continue to enjoy good governance. There are many projects going on simultaneously across the State and the roads to be constructed will further open up the LGs and LCDAs for economic prosperity,” Akinsanya said.

The Commissioner, however, urged residents to continue to pay their taxes promptly to enable the Government to meet up with its target to complete all ongoing projects in the State this year.

The Lagos State Government on Saturday announced a total ban on the operations of cart pushers and wheel barrow operators in the State, saying that their activities were inimical to the environmental cleanliness in the State.



The State Government said that with the flag off of the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI), the continuous activities of cart pushers will pose a threat to the success of the initiative.



According to the state govt, investigations had also revealed that the cart pushers are responsible for most of the illegal dumping of waste in canals and road medians at night which causes flooding, adding that they were also traces of security threats.



The State Government has finalised plans to ensure that the CLI would cover every area of the State and ensure that refuse are well packed and collected, urging residents to desist from patronising them or risk prosecution.

The Benue state government has released the names of those killed in the recent attacks on two local government areas by suspected herdsmen. On January 1, Guma and Logo local governments came under siege from the rampaging herdsmen killing 73 people, while dozens of people were injured and still in hospital.



Among those killed was a 4-year old boy; Terkimbi, an eight-months old pregnant woman; Sarah and a 76-year old grand-father; Pa Lortimbir.

It’s another day of Stephanie Linus’ visit to Italy where she is advocating against human trafficking.



In partnership with international medical humanitarian organization – Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and European Organization for the Rescue of Lives in the Mediterranean – SOS Mediterranee, she visited the rescue ship “Aquarius” today.



Her visit was a very productive one. Mrs Linus and her team were given a tour of the ship, and afterwards, discussions on the overall need to educate people on the dangers of being trafficked and integrating the rescued victims back into the society followed.



She also had a press conference with several members of the international media where she spoke about measures that can be used to curb human trafficking.
