Culture / Sultan of Sokoto Quotes John 3:16, Says Primate Ayodele Is His Brother by Harbdulrasaq(m): 6:56am On Feb 15, 2017
Sa'adu Abubakar the Sultan of Sokoto has described Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele, the spiritual head of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church as his 'brother'.

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III stated this at the birthday of Primate Ayodele in Lagos on Tuesday.

The Sultan also lauded Ayodele’s support for the Muslim community.

Abubakar III disclosed this on Tuesday during Ayodele’s birthday celebration at the church’s Isolo premises in Lagos state.

The Sultan was represented by Alhaji Aminu Idris Yaro, the Sarkin Hausawan Lagos.

He said, “I am a proud Muslim but when I see my Christian brothers extend their hands of fellowship to Muslims, it is a fulfillment of the scriptures.

“Every Nigerian ought to promote unity in their communities regardless of their religious differences,” he advised.

While quoting John 3:16, the Sarkin Hausawan noted that Christians need to follow the teaching there in and do according to the scriptures.

“The primate is a brother from another mother,” he stated

He, however, urged other prominent men of God to speak more on unity of religion and show love to people from other religions.

Education / JAMB May Conduct A Mock UTME In 2017 by Harbdulrasaq(m): 9:19pm On Feb 14, 2017
According to JAMB Registrar, Isaac Oloyede, the board is considering conducting mock exercise ahead of the next UTME.

Oloyede said although he could not guarantee a hitch-free examination, the innovations being put in place “will send some illegal operators, who are defrauding candidates in the past, out of business.’’

“Frankly, I cannot promise a hitch-free examination because we are testing certain things.

“We are changing certain things; we want to question the statuesquo and we expect a fight back by interests that will be trampled upon,’’ the registrar said.

He explained that the board would be as sincere as possible.

“We are going to be as flexible as humanly possible; we are not promising hitch free examination,’’ he said.

Events / PHOTOS: Kenyan Couple Tie The Knot In Super Simple Ceremony Dressed In T-shirts by Harbdulrasaq(m): 9:18pm On Jan 26, 2017
A young Kenyan couple became internet sensation after photos from their simple wedding went viral.
The couple, Ann Wambui, 24, and Wilson Mutura, 26, tied the knot on Sunday, January 22, dressed in T-shirts. Ann wore her T-shirt with a jeans skirt, and no make up.

Pastor Jasper Ojwach of Community Christian Worship Centre in Kasarani, Nairobi officiated the couple's wedding. He took to Facebook to share the photos captioning the pictures:

"May the Lord Almighty bless your marriage Ann and Wilson Mutura. I hereby present to you Mr and Mrs Wilson Mutura Wanjohi!”

Pastor Ojwach shared the love story of Wambui and Wilson Mutura with eDAILY.

"Their wedding took place at our church, Community Christian Worship Centre, in Kasarani area, Nairobi on Sunday, January 22. The two exchanged vows after the sermon. They chose to do their wedding like that because of their financial position. It is quite a long story.
"They did not just wake up on a Sunday and decide to be joined together. They have been in a relationship for three years now. I knew them when the guy joined our church after he relocated to the city from Nyahururu.

"After some time, Mr Mutura presented his wish to marry Ann. In the beginning, they never wanted to have that big wedding, and so they requested my counseling on that. They were to have their wedding in December, 2016 that was organised by the church, but due to then-unforeseen circumstances, we had to postpone the wedding date.

"They had already followed the processes before marriage, such as meeting parents of either family before tying the knot. I got in touch with the families of both Ann and Wilson.
"After that, I promised to preside over a simple wedding for them. It wasn’t supposed to be so simple as it turned out. It was supposed to involve presence of few things such as the cake, bridesmaids etc. The guy did whatever he could and asked me to officiate their wedding because they had already gotten the blessings of their parents.

"I took them through a series of counseling before letting them exchange their wedding vows. And now they are wedded. Interestingly, they had no best man or bridesmaid in plan, but two congregants stood up on the day of the wedding and offered to take up the two roles.
"And there followed the exchange of vows and rings, and we were happy for them. They are doing well, they are very much okay. My heart is so much passionate about the young generation. I have to admit I am satisfied.”

Mr and Mrs Mutura are currently operating a business of selling fruits, jointly, in Kasarani area. Ann relocated to the city from Nyahururu to join her husband.

Pastor Ojwach says the budget of the wedding is near zero shillings since the two only bought rings, and the church will cater for the cost incurred to process their marriage certificate.
"Even if they bought the rings for KSh10, it doesn’t matter. What matters is they are now married, and I already blessed the rings," said Pastor Ojwach.

Politics / Buhari Cannot Be Forced To Address Nigerians On Rumors Of His Death- Presidency by Harbdulrasaq(m): 8:20pm On Jan 26, 2017
Presidential Spokesman, Femi Adesina, has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari cannot be coerced to address the nation to quell rumors of his death.

"The President is in London on vacation. He is not in any hospital and he is not ill," Mr. Adesina said on Thursday in an interview with CNBC Africa.

"When he was traveling last week, the statement we put out was that he was going on vacation and during the vacation, he would do routine medical check-up and nothing has changed from what we pushed out last week.

"If anybody has fed something else into the rumour mill, that is just what it is- a rumor."

"The fact that he is a President, he still has his rights. Compelling him to come out and talk will be infringing on his rights.

"The president will talk if he wishes to. If he doesn't wish to, nobody will compel him to talk.

The truth is that the president is on vacation and he has given a date on which he will return to work.

No fewer than 15, 772 workers cutting across the local government, teaching service and the core civil service have been promoted by the Ekiti State Government.

The beneficiaries are those whose promotions were due in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, according to a statement on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, approved the mass promotion at a meeting held with labour union leaders and top civil servants in Ado-Ekiti.

“The governor also ordered that the letters of promotion by given the affected workers without delay.

Fayose, while noting that though the state is grappling with economic challenges, said that should not hinder the recognition of hard work and diligence of those serving the state.

Sports / Iheanacho Sues 2 Manchester Lawyers by Harbdulrasaq(m): 10:09am On Dec 25, 2016
Manchester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, is suing two lawyers from Manchester over image rights.

The Super Eagles star claims he was lured into signing over rights to his name by Robert Zanicky of Drums and Raymond Hassay of Exeter.

Iheanacho met with Zanicky in 2013 when he was 16, after the lawyer approached him following the 2013 African U-17 Championships. The player’s father signed an agreement in July 2013 with Zanicky.

The contract, which was signed for $1,000, gave Zanicky, Hassay and their agency, First Eleven Management, image rights to Iheanacho.

When Iheanacho turned 18, Zanicky convinced him to sign another contract, that gave 100% of his image rights to RHRZ LLC and Team Kelechi LLC based in Pittson.

“The assignment governs all of Kelechi’s image rights, defined to include all legal and beneficial rights and goodwill stemming from Kelechi’s name, nickname, initials, autograph, caricature, reputation and endorsements,” the lawsuit states.

The agreement prohibited Iheanacho from signing with another agency for the use of his image or likeness. Images licensed saw First Eleven earn 20% of the gross revenue.

Iheanacho is now claiming that he was not aware Zanicky was suspended from the practice of law, when they first met, after he pleaded guilty to two counts of corruption of minors.

According to Times Leader records, Zanicky was charged in 2011 with corrupting the morals of two girls, who were 16 and 17 at the time.

Politics / VP Osinbajo Gives Ministers Books As Christmas Gift by Harbdulrasaq(m): 4:00pm On Dec 24, 2016
Nigeria's Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, deviated from the norm on Wednesday when he offered Christmas and New Year gifts to the ministers of the Muhammadu Buhari regime.

Instead of the cash, hampers, bags of rice, electronic gadgets and other more expensive items usually dished out during this period, the Vice President went a different route on Wednesday before the commencement of a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

Instead, he presented three books to all the ministers. smiley

He did not hand the books over to them personally. Before the commencement of the meeting, protocol officials had placed small white paper bags containing the books on the ministers’ tables. The bags were customised to show that they were from the Vice-President. As they started arriving, ministers were seen bringing out the books apparently to confirm the contents of the bags and the source.

The three books were written by the same author: English-born Canadian journalist and speaker, Malcom Gladwell.

The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference (2000);
Outliers: The Story of Success (2008);
David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants (2013).

All the three books are said to be on The New York Times Best Seller list. The author has been a staff writer for The New Yorker since 1996.
