As we are all expecting the announcement of the JAMB 2020 UTME Registration soon; hopefully before the end of the year. It is important that prospective UTME candidates know that it is never too early to start preparing for it. As a matter of fact, based on experience, one of the keys to smooth registration and success in every UTME is early preparation.

So this post will guide you on the few things you need to be doing at the moment while we wait for the commencement of the UTME sales of form and the registration.

1. Get your National Identification Number (NIN): In case you do not know already, no candidate will be allowed to register for the 2020 UTME without having a NIN. We earlier provided a step-by-step procedure on how you can acquire NIN. So if you are yet to get yours, visit this link: NIN Application Guidelines and follow the instructions to get yours.

2. Know The Course You Want To Study: Deciding on the course you intend to study is one of the things you should do now before the registration begins. This is because you need time to think before settling down for a career/course. You shouldn’t pick any course. It has to be a course you have passion for; one that you have knowledge about.

3. Know the School You Intend to Apply for: Just like in choosing a course, you need to equally know beforehand the institution you want to apply for. Your criteria in choosing one should be based on whether the school offers the course you intend to study, the admission requirements of the school, the school fees as well as other personal preferences like location etc

4. Know the subject combination for your course: A lot of students make this mistake by choosing the wrong subject combinations for their course. If you want to avoid any form of mistake, use “the JAMB Brochure“, to see the required subject combination for the various courses before registration begins. Remember, that choosing the wrong one can jeopardize your chances of gaining admission. Be wise!!!

5. Start Studying Smart: Finally, start studying now and don’t just study hard, learn to study smart. By now you should know that a good number of JAMB past questions are repeated every year. Joint Admission and Matriculated Board, JAMB Mock Exam 2019: Things To Take Note Of During The Examination.

By now, candidates eligible for the 2019 mock exam must have known that the exam is set for Monday April 1st, 2019. Whether or not you are taking the mock exam, we advise that you to visit Examrelief JAMB CBT Practice page for 2019 UTME. It will help you to equally prepare your self and get ready for the main exam which is the reason for the JAMB Mock.

Nevertheless, if you are among those that will be writing the exam, please do take it serious as you may likely pick one or two things that will help you and other candidates in the main examination.

Ensure you arrive your centre at least 30 minutes before your scheduled time.

If you are going to the exam with any of the banned items, ensure you keep them some where safe outside the hall to avoid being punished or disqualified.

Joint Admission and Matriculation Board,JAMB Fixes 11th April for UTME Exam, Postpones Mock, Re-opens Registration Portal.

JAMB has finally fixed 11th April, 2019 as the new official date to commence with the UTME for this year. They have also postponed the Mock Exam to be held on Monday, 1st April. It is also important to note that the 2019 Registration Portal has now been re-opened till 15th March, 2019 (by midnight), for candidates, who have already created their profiles and purchased the UTME or DE ePINS. Candidates are to begin reprinting their Official Exam Slips as from 2nd April to see their Exam details such as approved Venues and Time Schedule for their CBT Exam. Meanwhile, those who are qualified to write the Mock Exam on the new date of 1st April do not need to reprint the reprinted exam slips, as all the details on the slips remain the same except the (mock) examination date which is now April 1.

JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, said these changes are due to ”certain circumstances beyond the Board’s control” and that “All candidates who registered for the 2019 UTME are to ensure that they print their examination notification slips before the day of the examination as no excuses would be entertained. The public should note that the Board would not reschedule examination for any candidate,” he said.

Federal Government of Nigeria, FG Denies Plans To Increase Federal Universities School Fees which was disclosed by ASUU yesterday.

The federal government has denied the claims by ASUU that it had approved the hike in tuition fees of Nigerian universities to N350,000.

This was disclosed by the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono while speaking at a symposium of activities to mark the World Teachers Day in Abuja yesterday.
FG Denies Plans To Increase School Fees

According to him, the federal government was not planning to increase the tuition fees as rumoured.

He added that the government was committed to guaranteeing quality education for all, adding that increase in the fee will negate the commitment.

He further disclosed that the government was engaging with ASUU and other stakeholders to bring about recommendations on how to fund the nation’s tertiary institutions without heaping much load on parents noting that the establishment of an Education Bank was already in the pipeline which will provide students with loans and other resources through a public-private partnership.

-Proceed to any branch of our designated Banks listed below and pay N3,000.00 (Three thousand Naira) only for checking of admission status:

Fidelity Bank Plc; Union Bank Plc.

-Log back on to the ABSU portal (http://portal.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng/),

-Thereafter, report at the Admissions office of the University at Uturu for the collection of the Acceptance-of-offer slip, to enable you pay the necessary fees and obtain further instructions therefrom.

The Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) has launched a portal where undergraduates of various institutions can check whether their admissions are recognised by JAMB or not.

It is important that you confirm your name from the matriculation list. Only candidates whose names are on this list are recognised as bonafide students from the various accredited institutions.

By implication, if your name is not on this list, your application to NYSC scheme for the one year National service shall be declined.

Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU sacks Professor Richard Akindele who wants to have five rounds of sex with a post-graduate student, Monica Osagie to upgrade her marks.

The Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has dismissed Prof. Richard Akindele who was allegedly involved in a sex-for-marks scandal.

The Vice Chancellor of OAU, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, announced Akindele’s dismissal in a statement on Wednesday in Ile-Ife.

Ogunbodede had, on April 19, confirmed Akindele’s suspension pending the findings of the investigative panel.

A student undergoing the Masters of Business programme, Miss Monica Osagie, had released a recorded telephone conversation, which went viral, in which the lecturer, identified as Akindele, demanded five rounds of sex to enhance Monica’s marks.

Ogunbodede said that the University Senate at its meeting on June 14 considered the committee’s findings that Akindele had inappropriate relationship with his student.

He said this was established through their conversation in the audio recording, his reply to the query, the oral evidence and the printed ‘WhatsApp conversations’ tendered before the committee.

The vice chancellor said Akindele had acted in a manner that compromised his position as a teacher and examiner, in that his conversations with Monica Osagie were about examination scores and inducement of favour for the alteration of examination scores.

Ogunbodede said: “He offered to change Miss Osagie’s purported “33%” result to a pass mark in consideration for sexual favours; this was established in the audio recording which he admitted.

“His claim that Miss Osagie knew that she had passed with a score of ‘45’ but was seeking to score an ‘A’ and that this led to him being sexually harassed by Miss Osagie cannot be supported by any evidence.

“Professor Akindele’s actions in requesting sexual favours from Miss Osagie to change her examination scores was scandalous behaviour that has brought ridicule to the name of the university and has tarnished the reputation of the university, as it portrays the university as an institution where its teachers and examiners trade marks for sexual favours.

“From the evidence, Miss Osagie had no idea that she scored ‘45’, a pass mark as later claimed by Professor Akindele, although she later found out she did not fail the course.

“Professor Akindele’s claim that he reported Miss Osagie’s ‘harassment’ to his colleagues cannot be supported by any evidence, as all his colleagues denied it and one mentioned that she only talked about the matter with him after the audio recording was released over the internet.

“Professor Akindele operated in a position of power and authority over Miss Osagie and as such, sexually harassed her.

“Professor Akindele was liable for all the allegations of misconduct levelled against him.’’

The vice chancellor said the Senate recommended that Akindele, having been found liable on all the allegations against him, should be dismissed from the services of the university.

“The Council, at its meeting of today, Wednesday, 20th of June, 2018, having considered the recommendation of Senate, as well as the report of the Joint Committee of Council and Senate, decided that Professor Richard I. Akindele should be dismissed from the services of the university for gross misconduct.

“The university has also taken further steps to ensure the total elimination of Sexual Harassment (SH) in the OAU community.

“The university has a legal duty to prevent sexual and gender-based harassment within the institution and ensure that both men and women are protected from this menace; and thereby provide conducive environment for teaching and learning,’’ he said.

Ogunbodede said in order to create conducive environment for teaching and learning, the university was creating more awareness and disseminating information on what constitutes sexual harassment within the university.

He said the veracity of sexual harassment concepts include sexual solicitation and advances, sex exploitation, prostitution, seduction, pimping, sexual assault, unwanted touching, vulgarly sexual jokes and rape, among others.

Ogunbodede said that OAU was fully committed to the eradication of sexual and other types of harassment from the university and would do all that is possible to curb them.

“OAU has zero tolerance for sexual harassment and as a renowned university, will do everything humanly possible to maintain the rules and regulations of the university,’’ he said.
