OFP’s mission is to assist talented and determined, low-income students who are good candidates for financial assistance from U.S. colleges and universities but lack the financial resources to cover the up-front cost of obtaining admission.

OFP works closely with students through regularly scheduled meetings and seminars to assist them throughout the application process to secure admission and scholarships to attend colleges and universities in the United States. OFP finances the cost of the application process, including registration fees for required standardized examinations and provides free membership to the U.S. EducationUSA Advising Center for its participants. OFP expects a sincere commitment from the students to give their energy and time to the program so that they may achieve their dreams of study in the United States.

Applicants are welcome from all the states in Nigeria. However, students must be able to reach our offices in Abuja or Lagos on a monthly basis during the program for full participation. The Senate on Thursday amended the law establishing the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) to enable graduates of the institution participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme and the Law school.

This means that all graduates of the Open University can now go for National Youth Service while those that graduated from law can now go for Law school after graduation.

The amendment followed the clause by clause consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND chaired by Senator Jibrin Barau (APC, Kano) on the amendment of NOUN Act.

The review aligned the NOUN’s Act with the requirements of the Universities Miscellaneous Provisions (Amendment) Act 2012, the law which regulate all Universities in the country

Barau said the amendment would address the perception of the public about the University in respect of the word correspondence, which gives the impression that the University is not a full time University and as such seen as part time.

“These two concepts correspondence and part-time significantly affect the way the public views the programs run by the University.

“This has been the reason why the Law Graduates of the School are not admitted into the Nigerian Law School as well as the reason for the non inclusion of the graduates of the University into the National Youth Service Corps Scheme, “he said.

Explaining further, he said law graduates of NOUN can now go to the Nigerian law school and can be called to bar while graduates of the institution can now go for NYSC.

The Professor of Animal Breeding and Genetics has developed improved breed of chickens from local chickens. The project which stated in 1994 has led to the improved breed of chicken called FUNAAB-Alpha.

A Professor of Animal Breeding and Genetics in the College of Animal Science and Livestock Production (COLANIM), Professor Olufunmilayo Adebambo and her poultry-breeding team, have developed a new breed of chicken in the University, called FUNAAB-Alpha, after over 20 years of continuous research.

According to the University Don, she started the project in 1994, with the first generation of chickens, collected randomly all over South West, Nigeria. Recalling her experience, Professor Adebambo noted that the different types of local chickens (Normal Fethered, Frizzle Feathered and Naked Necks), were collected all over Nigeria by students in the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics (COLANIM) and were screened for conservation and multiplication by her first Ph.D student, late Dr. (Mrs.) Josephine Adenowo, during which, eggs were taken to Oyo town, Oyo State, for hatching.

Explaining further, Professor Adebambo stated that she started the second generation of the birds after screening and selection from 1,000 birds, only 27 got into the cage. This, she said, was done to screen against diseases and upon getting into the cage, the birds were further screened against brooding, because as local chickens, they had the tendency to brood after egg laying, which is usually in clutches, after which the chicks are reared.

These activities, therefore, render them unproductive like imported birds. Since motherhood is not allowed for commercial poultry business, only 17 non-broody birds formed the foundation stock in the cage. “From these 17, we started multiplication, cross-breeding, back-crossing and criss-crossing, which brought us to where we are today”.

There are prices that need to be paid as there is no success without sacrifice- you either dillydally now and regret later or struggle now and enjoy later. Academic excellence entails taking the extra mile to achieve the set goals, avoiding any distractions and being on the tracks till one get to the finishing line. Scholars as fondly called do not jump down from heaven neither do they have bigger heads and wider brains. It only take being serious, focus, determine and dedicated since nothing good come with ease, anything good comes with sweat.

From experience, it has been observed that those who attain greatness or reach their peak academically, start from somewhere i.e doing one thing or the other, therefore the following tips; the standard of which is relative and not absolute are suggested for those who have ever looked at the achievements of others and thought “wow, if only I can do that”.

Discover yourself: if you are the type that read and assimilate in the daylight don’t copy a friend that read at night as a night class without any knowledge gain is a total waste of time and effort. Discover when, where and how best you assimilate when reading and don’t walk in another man’s shoe. While some do best reading at the library, some prefer their room depending on individual difference.

Also, use SWOT analysis to discover your strength and weakness as well as opportunity and threat in your immediate environment. If you always perform well in calculation course- that’s your strength, capitalize on it to have the best grade in it and as much as possible and minimize your weaknesses in other courses since everything will be cumulated together. “UNLEASH THE GENIUS IN YOU”

Set a SMART goal or objective: SMART here means setting objective that is specific, measureable, attainable, realistic and time bound. Objective is the ends at which all effort are directed, without which there will be no direction. Having discovered who you are as a student, the next is to set a realistic objective that is achievable within a specific period of time.

Being one of the best in the class, having minimum of B’s or minimum of 3.5GP at the end of a session are some of the examples of objective to be aimed for student who want to achieve excellence in their respected field of study. “All successful people have a goal. No one can get anywhere unless he knows where he wants to go and what he wants to be or do” (Norman Vincent Peale)


Planning: having an achievable objective is not enough, you have to follow it diligently and work towards the achievement of the set objective. Planning here entails putting all necessary things in place to make sure your aim/s is/are achieve. Robin Sieger said and I quote “Planning is as natural to the process of success as its absence is to the process of failure”.

Attend classes and make sure proper note is taken in the class to ensure that you flow with what is being taught in class. Also, hook up with those who are the best in your department or field and make worthy friends- “show me your friend and I will tell you who you are”. The choice of friend to move with is very important as it go a long way in determining ones performance.

Having a good relationship with lecturers is also a plan towards achieving ones goal as they give advice, share experience and guide a student when he/she needs to be guided.

Be prayerful: the essence of prayer can never be over emphasise in achieving academic excellence. Student who had faced missing script or had so many irrational scores like 39,49 or 69 in a single semester will understand the importance of prayer even more. Be prayerful and never exclude GOD in your pursuit of greatness as success truly and solely comes from HIM.

Remember the grace and mercy of God surpass every other thing so seek for it through obedience and faithfulness and these undoubtedly will brings knowledge, understanding, wisdom and guidance.

Control: I stayed off campus during my 100Level days and I had the best result that earn me university scholar but in 200Level I moved to the university hostel and my result wasn’t as good as that of 100L which made my CGPA to drop a little. Having noticing this, I returned back to my initial place “off campus” in 300Level and since then the CGPA has been raising like yeast (LOL) – That’s control mechanism.

Control is simply setting a standard, measuring and comparing the actual performance with the standard and taking corrective action. Control is important whether or not you meet your target. If you meet the target, the control is to ensure you maintain it. If you didn’t, the control is to figure out the causes and tackle it.

On this note, I wish to end saying the action you take and even those you refuse to take while in school will eventually add up to help you become a successful graduate or a struggling one.

An Assistant Director with NECO, has been apprehended an arraigned by the gallant operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, July 4, 2017.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 arraigned one Muhammadu Umar before Justice M. T. Salihu of the Federal High Court, Maiduguri on a 3-count charge of fraud to the tune of N4million.

Umar, an Assistant Director with the National Examination Council, NECO, allegedly approached the proprietor of Success Private School claiming that he had the instruction of his employer (NECO) to collect NECO SSCE registration fees of students in the school.

Without doubt, the proprietor knowing that the money if not remitted could lead to non-participation of candidates from the school did as Umar requested.

But Umar diverted the money to his personal use. After arraignment and deliberations on the bail application, Justice Salihu ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison custody pending hearing of the bail application on July 6, 2017.

The Citadel of learning, popularly known as THE BETTER BY FAR UNIVERSITY, UNILORIN, has again set a world record by entering into Guinness world record breaking book in becoming the first Tertiary institution to have thirty thousands students drinking pespsi at the same second, minute, hour, day at the University world class stadium.

The special adviser on media to the Kwara State government was present for the occasion and other distinguished men and women from the institution and out side the institution.

Angry students of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Osogbo have razed down the building belonging to Islamic cleric, Sakariya Abdulrafiu, at the Oke Baale area, after a decomposing corpse was purportedly found in a bush beside the house.

Recall, Sakariya Abdulrafiu, alongside 2 others confessed to killing the 400 level student of the university, Oluwafemi Shonibare, who went missing over a week ago.

Abdulrafiu claimed to be an apprentice learning charms and voodoo but confessed that he connived with the other suspects to kidnap the deceased and had planned to use him for rituals.

A 400 level student of Microbiology Department was called out by a neighbour, Sakariyau Abdulrofiu, 10 days ago and his corpse was found at the back of an Alfa ’ s house .

Dressed in black shirts and trousers, the students chanted war songs and attacked motorists and journalists covering the protest.

They invaded the NUJ Correspondent Chapel ’s office at Fagbewesa and slapped a female journalist , Seun Adesokan , and roughly handled others for daring to take their photographs

A Muslim cleric Sakariyau Abdulrofiu; Ibrahim Ayuba and Yusuf Aliu have confessed that they killed UNIOSUN student, Oluwafemi Shonibare.
The confession was made on Tuesday night when they were paraded at the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo.

The trio said they wanted to use the student for money ritual
Abdulrofiu said that they hit Shonibare with a pestle on the head and later butchered him.
He stated that the deceased’s head was roasted but said that luck eventually ran out on them and they were apprehended by the police.

The decomposing corpse of a 400 level student of the Osun State University Student, who went missing since nine days ago, Oluwafemi Shonibare, has been found inside a bush near one Alfa’s house.

Students living near Jafaria Street told our correspondent, who visited the bush that the Alfa, who was arrested in connection with the student’s disappearance showed the policemen the place where the corpse was dumped.

Some of the students close to the deceased burst into tears as they perceived horrible stench oozing out of the bush.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, when contacted on the telephone told our correspondent that he could not speak because he was in a meeting.

But the Deputy Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students in South West, Saheed Afolabi, confirmed the development to our ccorrespondent

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dissociated itself from a social media account on Facebook calling on candidates to come for their UTME score upgrade.

The board warn the public and desperate candidates against falling victim of this scam and being defrauded of their hard earned money.
According to a statement by the Board’s Head of Media, “We wish to state unequivocally that the statement was not from JAMB, its Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, or any of its offices nor has he authorized any persons or group to post such an inglorious request and statement.
“JAMB therefore want to state that the results gotten by candidates from the 2017 UTME were the true reflection of their performance after going through a full proof scoring mechanisms. As such, it did not intend to review the scores or commissioned any body to do that. JAMB has also not been directed by any organ of government to so.
“JAMB wants to use this opportunity to state that its examination is not a fail or pass examination as there are other variables that are considered outside the examination to arrive at a successful admission. There is no need for this desperation as getting “high” scores as being touted by fraudulent characters is not a guarantee for admission.
He finally stated that effort are being made to arrest the perpetrators of this scam, and called on the public to visit the closes JAMB office if they have enquiries.
