Owners of the Joint Admission Matriculation Board [JAMB] Accredited Computer Based Test Centers has advised applicants of the JAMB UTME to strictly follow the stipulated guidelines by JAMB for easy registration.

Okonkwo, also the Head, ICT, Digital Bridge Institute, an accredited CBT centre in Jabi, Abuja, gave the advice in an interview in Abuja on Friday.

He said that major key requirement for registration includes creating JAMB profile using candidate’s valid email address by signing into: www.jamb.org.ng/efacility/.

Okonkwo said the next step was to pay N5, 500 JAMB fees at a bank; collect a PIN after payment; proceed to the CBT centre and pay N700 for registration to a designated account number.

He said thereafter applicants should return to the centre with the bank PIN and N700 payment teller to complete registration.

Okonkwo said some applicants had, however, failed to follow these guidelines which had caused some delay with their registration.

He said the centre was at hand to help some of these students to create an email profile at no cost and referred them to JAMB for issue beyond their control.
Okonkwo said the centre had registered no fewer than 1,000 applicants since the registration commenced on Monday.

Commenting on the speed of the internet, he described it as very fast, adding that JAMB had provided a dedicated router at the centre which was connected straight to their system.

A candidate, Master Ugochukwu Emmanuel, told NAN that the registration was very smooth and he was able to register in five minutes as a result of his previous experience.

“I think this year’s registration is easier and more understandable because of the process of registration and people that attended to us made the whole exercise easier,” he said.

He commended JAMB for the new innovations, saying it was a lot better than last year.

In a similar development at another centre, Global Distant Learning Institute, Central Area, Abuja, where the scenario was quite different as NAN observed a slow pace with the registration.

Information reaching us has it that the ongoing 2017 UTME registration suffered a set back, Monday 27th March, following some technical hitches that made it impossible to submit candidates’ data online in some centres.

From information gathered, it was almost evening before the problem could be resolved, thereby limiting the number of successful registration on Monday.

We have not ascertained at this time if it was the same case in all the registration centres nationwide.
If this trend continues, JAMB may have no other choice than to extend the registration deadline.

A reliable source has disclosed that candidates now have the opportunity to choose two public universities during registration. This is contrary to the earlier information that 2017 UTME candidates can only choose 1 public University and 1 private university during the registration.

We believe that the instruction earlier given by JAMB that candidates should choose only one public university was only an advise to candidates due to the fact that in many cases candidates who choose public universities as 1st and 2nd choice end up not even considered for admission by their 2nd choice universities due to the high competition in the universities they selected.

So candidates who wish to select two public universities as 1st and 2nd choice can go ahead an do so. However, the list of Public Universities you can select is VERY LIMITED. Most of the popular Universities will not even be listed, while selecting for 2nd choice. We therefore advise such candidates to ensure they select public universities that are less competitive as their 2nd choice options in order to stand a chance of being considered for admission.

So to further ensure that you make the right choice, we have provided the names of the universities that are less competitive, as earlier announced by JAMB during the 2016 Registration process. We believe this will be similar to what can be obtained as 2nd choice selection for this 2017 Registration.

The list contains Federal, State and Private universities that are less competitive. So if you wish to pick a public university as a 2nd choice, please ensure it is one of the ones on this list or any other one you know that is less competitive.

TIP: You can have 2 or 3 options as a priority list, in case you don’t find one during your selection, you can take the next option.

There is no official list released by JAMB this 2017 as Universities you can choose as 2nd choice, so you’ll have to make use of the attached list.

The examination is scheduled to hold in participating West African countries from Monday, 20th February to Monday, 15th May, 2017.

Important Notes:
1. Difference in Time on Question Paper and Timetable: Where the duration indicated on the question paper differs from that on the timetable, the one on the question paper should be followed.

2. Question Papers to be Given Out in Advance of the Dates They Are to be Taken:

(i) Visual Art 3;

Paper 3A – Instructions will be given to schools two weeks before the paper is due to be taken.
Paper 3B – Question paper sill be given to candidates two weeks before it is due to be taken.
Paper 3C – Candidates will be required to execute their projects within six months of the examination year. The period of submission of art pieces will be communicated to schools by the Council.

(ii) General Knowledge-In-Art Paper 3; The question paper for General Knowledge-In-Art 3 will be given to candidates two weeks before the paper is due to be taken.

(iii) Block Laying, Bricklaying and Concrete Works 3 (Practical); Question paper will be given to candidates three days before the paper is due to be taken.

(iv) Project Work Papers; The question papers for project work for Basketry, Graphic Design, Leatherwork, Ceramics, Sculpture, Picture Making, Textiles, Jewellery, Painting & Decoration, Dyeing & Bleaching and Leather Goods Manufacturing & Repair will be forwarded to candidates two weeks in advance of the examination. The exact date for the delivery of question papers to candidates will be communicated to them through their schools.

3. Extra Time for Blind, Deaf and Dumb Candidates: Blind, deaf and dumb candidates should be allowed one and half times the time allotted to other candidates.

I know many prospective UTME candidates will take a sprint to this post hoping to know the actual date or at least have a clue to when the 2017 JAMB Registration will commence. Sorry to disappoint you, there is no official date yet. I understand how anxious you must be feeling right now.

The truth is, I equally feel same way too. I would have loved to tell you again, “It will commence soon” but I am tired of using that line over and over again. Unless of course the meaning of the word “soon” has changed, but the last time I checked it is still the same. I think I may not be able to use that word for a long time because I have abused it (JAMB, see what you’ve caused).

The whole thing right now is kinda looking like a hide and seek game. Many bloggers in the last few weeks have gone “prophetic” all in a bid to predict when the 2017 JAMB registration will finally commence; some even went as far as giving details on how the registration will go. Only God knows where that vision came from. In all, JAMB has continued to beat everyone to it. I would have said that the current JAMB Boss is a pro in playing hide and seek but that’s none of my business (Disclaimer: I never said that).

I have decided to create room for Nairalander to offer their own predictions as to when the registration will commence and if possible, the exam date. I have a feeling that we have unknown prophets and prophetesses that may likely nail this. Now, let the predictions begin!

P.S. Please do not take the predictions on this thread serious. Unless the owner of the prediction confirms he/she got a whisper from JAMB Boss.
