One Year After 2015 Elections: Where Are The
Nation Builders?
One year after the 2015 elections and almost
one year after former President Goodluck
Jonathan and President Muhamadu Buhari
have swapped positions, I find it curious that
some of our compatriots are yet to come to
terms with the reality that Nigeria is greater
than both GEJ and PMB.
This is strange considering that Nigeria is
neither about GEJ nor about PMB.
However, as an incurable optimist and a
committed nation builder with passion for a
New Nigeria, I remain hopeful that someday,
in not too distant future, our compatriots
locked down by shortsightedness of
partisanship of the APC and PDP politics will
rise up to the challenges and responsibilty of
rebuilding Nigeria from the ruins of the
misgovernance of several decades
occasioned by the poitical elites majority of
who are in APC and PDP.
This is what genuine citizenship and
patriotism demand.
Not getting fixated on GEJ or pretending that
GEJ was faultless.
And certainly, not in dressing PMB in a
garment of infallibility and invincibility.
And this has nothing to do with refusing to
ask GEJ to take responsibilty for his actions
even it this means making him face the full
wrath of the law if found culpable of any
offence.
And by no means must this be misconstrued
to mean that Nigerians must not question
PMB's actions and deeds.
God forbid that Nigerians get to the point
where they can not or will refrain from
questioning,critiquing or making their
leaders accountable.
Should this become the norm in Nigeria, God
forbid, Nigerians might as well bid democracy
an eternal farewell.
What genuine patriots and committed nation
builders must painstakingly avoid like a
plague is the phenomenon of Kabiyesi and
Rankadeide in governance.
The phenomenon of Kabiyesi and Rankadeide
never helped Nigeria in the past and it won't
help Nigeria now
And never will it.
In this respect therefore, I look forward to a
better citizenship, not partisanship
engagement effective May 30, 2016 when
Nigerians embarks on the second year of
PMB'S four year presidency.
God Bless The Federal Republic of Nigeria. |
Read the history of the US during and after
the great economic depression between
1929-1932 when Hoover was the president
and a very large number of Americans died of
hunger. Lo and behold, in 1933, the 32nd
President Franklin D. Roosevelt embarked in
massive capital and infrastructural
development building roads, bridges,
drainage systems, post offices, tall
government buildings, etc thereby providing
jobs in the millions to ordinary citizens to
drive the country out of the greatest
depression this same great nation have seen.
This same America fought a civil war too
when Abraham Lincoln was the President of
the United States from 1860-1865. Guess
what? They trusted and believed in their
good leaders and committed to their country
and did not gang up against them and expect
a miracle they did not get since their
independence. Any reasonable person should
understand that it is easier to destroy than to
build. I will suggest we wait for a full term
before I personally will expect any meaningful
changes and I strongly believe that this is
only logical. The government is laying a good
foundation by recovering stolen money,
cutting the size of government, changing the
framework of government operation, etc.
After another year or thereabout I expect the
laying down of the blueprint and actual
commencement of massive infrastructural
and capacity development and diversification
of the economy with special emphasis on
agriculture and manufacturing. We must
solve the problem of electricity in 2020. These
are my projections. I trust and believe these
things are achievable with PMB. |
