The NYSC scheme is due for major reforms and this reform should be directed to solve most of the challenges the country presently face. We cannot continue to live in the guilt of the civil war even in our present day democracy. The Nigeria youth are more divided along economic line rather that the perceived national integration purpose which the NYSC scheme was establish to serve. As a youth in Nigeria, most of our generation if not all have been able to live beyond the events that have characterised the ways the country threats us. What are the basic need of the Nigeria youth? I think this should be a guide toward alleviating the sufferings of the Nigeria youth in general. Unemployment is a major challenge facing we youths, yet we get forced to serve our nation for a period that mostly have little or no financial and economic effect on our livelihood. The NYSC scheme is not working, not because it is a totally bad idea, but its an idea that have remain the same way since the day it was conceived. Aside its major purpose of national integration which it is no more serving, the scheme is void of initiatives that could catalysed the Nigeria youth into being productive. Npower no doubt is new and have since become a national program with a more advance and sophisticated ideology that is well crafted to efficiently work at this current state we found ourselves. The scheme is different from NYSC as it is not just an avenue for the youths to get paid but also gain vital experience in those areas Npower operates. The reason why so many graduate don't value teaching jobs is not just because teachers are under paid but an experience of just 6-7 months can never be convincing enough, and these are areas where the Npower program have touched and would definitely have positive effect in the education systems of the country. The Npower is not without its own flaws but with the early deployment of technology into the process, those problem can be easily dealt with. Unlike the NYSC which has been turned into an avenue to rip Nigerian youths off their hard earned resources. I mean why should we be paying the government to enroll for a scheme that needed us more. We are simply paying to learn the lesson of National Integration. <script> <script> With the Npower program replacing the NYSC, all the bottleneck being experienced in nysc can be easily dealt with, and we will have more youths in the two most vital areas of our growing economy which are Education and Agriculture. The major high point of the Npower scheme over NYSC scheme include : 1. It is a two years program. which afford participant opportunity to gain valuable experience in what ever field they apply for. 2. It pay more. No matter how little one wants to view 30,000 naira, the 19,800 paid during NYSC cannot be compared to it. 3. It afford participant a robust training in various field through the Npower Build 4. If more youth are brought into the npower scheme, it will surely improve commitment which is rarely found in the nysc scheme 5. Increase the number of employed youths, thereby reducing idleness which most of the time result to crime. 6. The introduction of BVN have made the NPower selection and payment process so transparent, unlike NYSC where everything can be influences, including posting, redeployment and most of the time having corps member who are categorised as ghost 7. One can never compare Npower build with nysc saed program 8. More incentive should be given to members of Npower who choose to work in rural areas 9. Nigeria youths have just one common problem which is unemployment. NYSC have not been able to cushion the effect of unemployment on the Nigeria youth, but with Npower, if more youth can be added to the scheme, it will surely be a better alternative in the area of National integration and wealth creation. 10. Npower stipend should be raised to 40,000 naira and should be made to run for 3 years. 11. It is the only scheme that can currently replace NYSC 12. Enough of National integration through a process that is no more working, our youths needs employment. Just i earlier said; I'm not saying the nysc scheme was a bad idea, but all am saying is that it cannot solve the problems of the second millennium. Nigeria with her unique problems. The Kaduna state government recently conducted a test for primary school teachers across the state and it was not surprising what we got as the outcome of the test as over 66% of the teachers find it difficult to pass a primary four exam. What do we expect when the testers are been tested? Whose fault is it when a teacher who is suppose to be a major role model to students and the society subject themselves to so much ridicule just because of the usual nonchalant attitude to the progress of those they are suppose to be impacting with useful academic and moral knowledge. I kept wondering if such test are regularly conducted during my days in school. How would i fell when a teacher whom i fear so much is reported to be incompetent and is unable to pass simple exams. This situation could make some of those pupils loose confident in education. In a state where parents are regularly encouraged to enroll their children in school and where desire for western education is not encouraging. Though, this is not the first time such is happening in the country. Similar situation also occurred some times in Edo state where teacher could not even read a full sentence. Who are the regulators, The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria. What are the requirement to register teachers into the council?, or is it all about paying annual fee and dues. The teaching job is suppose to be a noble profession, but the situation in Nigeria is so bad that even the federal government considers it as the least important ministry to invest in. Teachers raising placard with inscription such as “EXAMINATION IS NOT A TRUE TEST OF KNOWLEDGE“, this is shameful and disrespectful to those pupils who respect and fear them for being their teachers. How do you feel after an examination as a teacher, and your student walk up to you with such notion? As much as i also believe examination is not truly a test of knowledge, but what other form of testing can we possibly give a teacher who is expected to have attended a higher institution? I don’t think a primary four examination is too much for teachers who are expected to have obtained at least a National Certificate Examination (NCE) Certificate. It is sad that Federal Government and Sate Government in Nigeria do not see importance in investing in education just because they can afford to enroll their children with public fund into schools where they pay millions to educate a child just for a term. Despite the fact that the Nation is facing problem from all front due to decade of neglect in the education sector, our leader continue to show little or no concern in re-positioning the Education Sector. https://www.eduwheel.com.ng/when-the-testers-are-been-tested/ |
Codedrock:Nice one, but next time try to gather more facts.......am sure of the facts that there are Universities in Nigeria where students pay below 30k per session. |
We were not surprise when the news about UNILAG withdrawal of the admission list broke, because we have been working on releasing a compilation of what does not display admitting on merit which UNILAG has been known for. It was a time consuming process but we took the pain to go through the list and what we saw was unimaginable. It was shocking when we saw names of candidate who could now score an average of the post-utme total score of 30 been admitted to study medicine. This kind of development is not good for our growing education system. If the student are left alone to complete by writing UTME and post-utme, why not give the admission to those who truly deserve it. Like what was said earlier , we are glad the school have once again display that quality which has over the years help built a legacy of fairness and academic excellence. At Eduwheel we hope with the withdrawal of the merit list, those who were denied admission gets justice and those whose actions and dealings are creating a negative image for the institution be punished appropriately. If all things being equal, we will be expecting UNILAG to give us a list with a true reflection of merit. https://www.eduwheel.com.ng/unilag-and-the-withdrawn-admission-list/ |
Is it really something difficult for government to fund the education sector? Most of the time we hear calls from both local and international communities on the needs for Africa countries to place optimum priority on Education, and we have also seen African leaders on various occasion admits to the fact that increase funding for Education is the only way to end all forms of vices that plaque Africa as a continent, such as terrorism, poverty, sickness, food insufficiency, etc. Then why is it so difficult to fund these sector? Recently, the Nigeria senate called for increase funding for the education sector, but will that be possible when the legislature are not even ready to sacrifice the excessive cash that goes to them out of the nations resources. There’s no nation in the world where the government earns so little and pay so much to services the government like we have in Nigeria. If we service the government with amount enough to to grow the education system, then where are we suppose to get the needed resources to fund Education. Even Mr President Buhari admit to have done nothing critical in the nations most sort after sector, and this is as a result of the fact that even the presidents could not trust the education system enough to train his children. Most of our elites result to overseas institution to trains their wards. Even those who have served as civil servant all their life find means to afford money to send their children overseas for sound education. These are some of the reason corruption continues to grow in strength even when we claim to be fighting it. Universities in Ghana and Benin have now become preferred alternative for Nigerians who are bent on sending their children out of the country to study. Its a big Shame. Our legislature should know that to change the fortune of the country’s Education system, there must be a sound legislature to that effect. Imagine having children of 469 legislature in Nigeria Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges, Secondary, Nursery and primary schools in Nigeria. Image if they also have to face the stress of not have chairs to sit in the class and having to bring one from home, Imagine having our legislature bring their children to school in bullet poof cars to a school building which have to roof, doors, windows or even electrification. Same should also be applicable to the Executives arm of government. These people don’t know what these kids go through, schooling is like hell in Nigeria. We treat Education like we don’t want every Nigerian to have access to it. https://www.eduwheel.com.ng/nigeria-why-is-it-difficult-for-government-to-fund-education/ |
Nations that have achieve so much in Sport have been able to do so because they invest so much in sport development. Sport is one major areas youths can be gainfully engaged if the right investment in being made. Nigeria have been through so many flops in recent times due to the nation not being able to channel resources into the development of sport. Almost all national sport infrastructure are in a state of total collapse that even those few youth that still patronise some of those facilities find is so difficult to compete. We expect so much from our sport men and woman in a country where athletes pays so much abroad to train in other to be able to compete with other sport men and women in other Countries. The Abuja national stadium which was used in hosting the all Africa games in 2003 is now a shadow of itself that even the Super Eagles cannot dare to play a game in it. Most of its facilities have been in a state that shouldn’t be thought off going by the huge cash that gone into the project. It was even reported some months back on how cattle have taken over the Sport complex because of our culture which dose not pay diligence to maintenance. The National Stadium in Surulere has also become an embarrassment to the country. I mean the state of the stadium is so embarrassing that the state own stadium has to be used to host some sporting events while the national stadium has been left for hire by churches and also used to host other events. More of such sport structures can be located in almost every part of the country. In my school days we use to have inter school games and it is usually an event that gets everyone to participate even our parents are grouped to compete in the school games, but all of those seems to have gone and seized to be part of our system. Even the tertiary games such as NUGA and others are not as glamorous as they used to be when young undergraduate compete for the love of the games. Most of these events have been replaced by cultism and other social vices such as yahoo yahoo etc. We need to change our ways just to get the youth back into loving sporting activities once again. Government must invest in new infrastructure and upgrade old ones. Incentives should be made available for those young once who show great interest in sport. Incentive should be made available inform of stipends, scholarships, academic waivers, etc. Now is the time grow the nation by empowering the younger generation through sports. Government need to work hard to get more private sector involvement in sport. The Channels kids cup, Milo basket ball competition, the shell cup have recorded huge success in recent time, but we still need government to got more involved in sport development so as to enable more private participation. These can also go a long way to improve national unity and peace co-existence among Nigerians. http://www.naijascoreboard.com/nigeria-call-invest-sport/ |
AdebisiAdeyinka:you mean they have to wait a bit longer......Lol |
It was a very bad feeling at the Lekan Salami Stadium which happens to be the home ground of the biggest football club in Ibadan, the Oyo state Capital. Shooting Stars also popularly known as 3SC or Oluyole warriors have been going through some difficulties which revolves around financial obligation or commitment from the handlers of the Football Club. 3SC which use to represent the face of the game in the southwestern region is fast becoming a shadow of itself, due to government inability to commit resources into sport development in the state. After the humiliation melted on the club by Ifeanyi Ubah Football club, both the players and the club supporters have not been too happy with how the affairs of the club is being managed, but one can only imagine when the financial problems rocking the club will come to an end. Player cant continue to play on empty belly, while government continue to make mockery of the abilities these young Nigerians are investing to make the club what it use to be. Its was a sad day at the stadium after the match with Ifeanyi Ubah FC as the club lost 3-0 to the visiting team after which supporters started clamoring for the sack of Coach Fatai Amao, then i began to imagine if it was the duty of the coach to take responsibility for the financial situation of the football club? I mean what is the role of the coach in the whole issue, if your players are financially starved i don’t know the magic the coach will perform to save the situation. All over the world, the clubs that win matches always command some financial strength. Nevertheless, the situation still balls back to the fact that Nigerians are not enjoying the current state of the economy. When the Oyo state Governor was hosted by the media houses in Oyo state on May 29th, one would have expect some of the aggrieved fans of Shooting stars to have called in to at least make a case for the club before the Governor but i was surprised that no body raised any question about government attitude towards sport development in the state. Even the journalist present didn’t see reasons to ask the governor questions relating to sport development in the state. With the club struggling for survival in the league, i continue to ask myself; who will save our dear 3SC from its current situations? If nobody is asking question about the clubs activities and how it is been managed, then i wonder who are the original stake holders of the club because right now Shooting Stars FC needs a voice. Sport is one area government can explore to get large numbers of youth engaged, and this cannot be achieve without financial commitment, because even if you get the best of sporting equipment and the guys who are expected to use those equipment still struggles with feeding then we cannot say we are moving forward in all effort to make sure we get more youth into sporting activities. http://www.naijascoreboard.com/save-shooting-stars-football-club/

We can only hope that our legislature see reasons why it will be inhuman to allow JAMB carry on with its planned one month registration. |
Sharming95:i know, but should people stop talking because opinions dont count in this part on the world? |
Everything about this country continue to look like drama, i mean new script are played on daily bases, with everyone trying to showcase their talent even if its going to cause Nigerians pain and hardship. I wasn't surprise by the recent actions from JAMB trying to create a commando like approach in conducting the UTME examination. Prof. Oloyede needs to be reminder that he can not run the affairs of JAMB like the fire brigade method he deployed in running University of Ilorin, when semesters were completed in less than three months. Mr JAMB registrar Sir, this is a different platform and be reminded that these candidates would be vying for admission into different institution across the country not just University of Ilorin. This is the case, JAMB is expected to register over 1.7million candidate in one Month, this is something that usually take three months even when the country was not in recession, now the mighty Oloyede want to do that in one month without considering the status of the economy. I am not concern and not in doubt that it is possible to register even more that five million candidates in a month, but my concern is about the country Nigeria where perfection is only earn through beliefs and not hard work. Conducting exam for 1.7 million Nigerians who are mostly computer illiterate, and not even the government put that into perspective. Policies are introduce in a manner that portray Nigerians as the sole cause of their problems. Technology are not just deployed to override a system over night, there's always a systematic approach to situations, as we cannot make this looks like it all depends on one persons idea. Now that we have an examination body that have used months for preparation but expects Nigerians to do what it has been doing for months in weeks. Technology is meant to simplify a process and not make them burdensome for those the technology is design to serve, but the reverse is the case for JAMB. The country is not just ready for all this yet, a full scale online payment for over 1.7million candidate, i don't think JAMB have considered possible problems from the use of online payments, for those who use their cards often, you will understand where am coming from. Sometimes you get deduction for certain amount to either purchase product or service and you get a POS error which sometimes takes week to resolve. I hope JAMB wont deprive Nigerians the opportunity they deserve by this one month registration process. Have JAMB also consider what have grown to become a norm while using the online platform for registration, i will also keep my fingers crossed to see how Prof. Oloyede handle traffic because we expect the online platform to witness an unusual traffic which will probably rise to over a hundred thousand registration a day at some point if truly the one month registration period stands. Why the Hurry? Why? I cant understand, some of these institutions might not even begin admission process until November or probably next year, JAMB continue to create situation where students are meant to wait endlessly months after sitting for the UTME examinations. Who are the people coming up with all of these ideas and whats the real intention behind the rush? https://www.eduwheel.com.ng/jamb-why-the-rush-a-question-begging-for-answer/ |
Things can not be done in a manner that continue to downgrade the efficiency and professionalism that this country have in her citizens. What a website! The look and feel of the Lagos State University website suggest the kind of manpower the institution have employed to managed its ICT centre. As a matter of fact that web (www.lasu.edu.ng) interface is not befitting for a University of LASU repute. Everything about the website looks so unprofessional, looks like a tools for experiment by 100 level computer science student. I mean a simple wordpress template or joomla by a great handler would have done the job. Everything seems wrong about the website, right from the home page, blurred images, i mean for professionalism sake, there are so many tools one can use to resize pictures without necessary affecting the pixel of the images. So many loose codes flying on every part of the website, this is just too bad and it shouldn’t be happening. Those images look like they were snapped from an already printed photo, or from a 2mega pixel china torch light phone. Our institution should start leaving up to their billings and not just do things like its a Nigeria thing to exhibit imperfection. It would have been better if there’s a “Website Under Construction” on the home page of the website just as it is been done on the Unilorin.edu.ng website homepage. http://www.infotechdays.com/blog/2016/08/30/lasu-website-an-embarrassment-to-the-institution/ |

Nigeria 0 Guinea 1 Tunisia 5 Niger 0 |
This is a match that has drawn serious anticipation and both teams would not be letting their guard loose because both country have the opportunity to qualify for the next stage of the competition. Nigeria have been able to secure a win and a draw against group mate Niger and Tunisia respectively, but will hope to advance in the competition as the group winner. If a win can be secured against the Guinean side that is has also not lost a match in the competition, that will make Nigeria Super Eagles the group winner. Guinea will hope to secure a win against Nigeria as they have only been able to secure 2 points in their meetings with Niger and Tunisia. A win for Guinea will definitely guaranty them a place in the next stage of the competition. Both National team knows what is at stake and they will definitely want to be in their respective best form. Tunisia and Niger will also be fighting it out as all member of the Group C still have the chance to proceed to the next stage of the competition. Group C standings Nigeria 4points Guinea 2 points Tunisia 2 point Niger 1 point http://www.naijascoreboard.com/chan-nigeria-guinea/ |
The match against Tunisia in the ongoing Africa Championship in Rwanda was more of a call on the Nigeria football governing body to further strengthen our local league for a more favorable competition with other leagues across African. The Super Eagles so far under the watch of coach Sunday Oliseh have performed well above average in the competition, with a win and a draw in their kitty, one can only expect the team to get even better. The lads have been able to score Five goals in the competition while also conceding two goals. Relating that to team performance one can only expect more improvement from the home base Eagles. The performance against Niger was classic though the guys had a very slow start but were able to turn the lots over to their side before the final whistle, but same cannot be said about the Eagles performance against the Tunisia side that show more cohesiveness, tactics and straight. Such can only be achieve through commitment to improving the Nigeria Professional Football League so as to enable the league produce football clubs and players that can compete with any team and players in the world. NFF must work so hard to improve the game so as to avoid incident of clubs not being able to pay players wages, improve player warfare, improving playing environment and to also avoid the repeat of a Gbolahan Salami. It is a thing of joy to see our local league produce players who are currently on the verge of making history for the country, even as we hope they get better, we must continue to support the team staffs and players. Watching these guys play makes me believe we are on the verge of achieving another USA 94 squad. From me, i pledge my support always, and all i hope for is the best. Up Super Eagles http://www.naijascoreboard.com/chan-super-eagles/ |
Nigeria Mikel Obi is without any doubt enjoying the game of football after the sack of Veteran Manager “Jose Morinho”. The Chelsea and Nigeria Midfielder have enjoyed more playing time since the arrival of New Chelsea Manager “Gus Hiddink”. Maybe the player might not be totally wrong on his view of the Chelsea team after the ouster of Jose Morinho in December 2015. A professional display against Manchester United at Old Trafford and the Sensational performance against a Crystal Palace side Yesterday proves the Midfielder is out there to crate an impression of himself. Mikel obi who have not had any real football encounter in the EPL this season has been pivotal to Chelsea recent form, though many would say it is too early to judge if there has been any improvement, but with the display against a Crystal Palace side that defeated Chelsea 2 goals to 1 at Stamford Bridge in August 2015, it will be fair to say the club is recovering fast. Goals from Oscar, Willian and Diego Costa was enough to secure the Mikel Obi Chelsea side a comfortable 3-0 win at Selhurst Park, “home ground of Crystal Palace”. With Mikel Obi’s having more playing time at Chelsea, this might actually spell a change in fortune for both the player and the Nigeria Super Eagles. As one can only hope the player continue to impress at all level. For me at NAIJASCOREBOARD, MIKEL OBI is my Africa player of the week. All i can just hope for is that he gets better. - See more at: http://www.naijascoreboard.com/?p=9813#sthash.dqleWceA.dpuf

Its an error to think a guy will leave a lady because he had sex with her. Its either there was no relationship in the first place.....the guy can play the sharp sharp stunt......but if truly there's a relationship then sex can never be the breaking factor..........Most guys who quit relationship also end up marrying a woman they had sex with during courtship. In Nigeria when a guy quit a relationship.... ladies are always quick to use sex as yardstick for the guy quitting the relationship. I have seen guys end relationship for reasons like( pls I can't date a virgin). |
