First floor Slab Construction This stage of work involves constructing the first-floor slab and beams based on the structural design of the structure. For this structure, a combination of 16mm reinforcement bars, 12mm reinforcement bars and 10mm reinforcement bars was used. TMT reinforcement was used as it is closer to the design tensile stress of 410N/mm2 than the other reinforcements in the market ( KAM reinforcement is also a very nice choice of reinforcement ). Formwork Placement This involved the placement of formwork comprising of 1"x 12" planks ( Marine boards are better due to strength and straightness of the boards and should be used if the budget permits), 2'' x 4 '' woods and bamboo for suffix support. A team of 5 carpenters worked for 5 days to complete this task. Reinforcement placement Reinforcement was placed based on the structural drawings. 12mm bars served as both the main and distribution bars for the slab while a combination of 16mm bars and 12mm bars were used as the main bars in the beams for both the tensile and compression zones. 10mm bars were used as links for the beams. Concrete Plcaement This follows the completion of the formwork and reinforcement placement. The concrete was mixed to a mix ratio of 1:2:4 in order to achieve the design concrete strength of 25N/mm2. A concrete mixer and poker vibrator was used to achieve a well compacted and workable concrete mix during the concreting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsjpXO6Ssvc

The Construction team of 1 Coren registered engineer, Building technologist, carpenters, iron benders and other skilled artisans were dispatched to the site to execute the project located at Sabo-Gida, Edo state. The team arrived late in the evening, work to commence the following morning Due to the current cost of construction materials, its imperative for engineers, builders and architects to come together and look for solutions to drive down the cost of construction. The most expensive and prevalent building material is cement, reducing the quality of cement in your structure can drive down the cost by 35%. One of this solutions in reducing amount of cement in our structures is use of interlocking bricks which we would show later on in this thread https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kom4pSWm90

Ground floor construction This involved masonry works, reinforcement works, carpentry works and concrete works. Reinfrocement works This involved the reinforcement works for the ground floor colunms and lintel . Y16mm reinforcement bars was used for the colunms with 10mm reinforcement bars for the links. The lintel had a combination of 12mm reinforcement bars and 10mm reinforcemnt bars for the links. The structural drawings for the columns indicated 4Y16 and the links are Y10 @ 200mm c/c . The lintel is also 4Y12 with links of Y10 @ 300mm c/c Masonry works This involved laying of 9'' and 6'' blocks bonded with mortar . The blocks are laid to the height specified in the architectural drawings . A combination of plum, line.,square and leveling instrument was used to ensure a well levelled block. Capentry works This involved the use of 1'' x12''x 12' , 1'' x 9'' x 12' , 1'' x 6'' x 12' machine sawed planks to cover the vertical sides and suffix of the lintels and colunms. A combination of 2'' x 4 '' woods and binding wire were used to brace the planks against failure. Concrete works This involved placement of insiitu concrete for the colunms and lintels. The mix ratio used was 1:2:4 and the concrete was well vibrated with a vibrating machine. A concrete mixer was used to ensure a consistent well mixed workable concrete. The Ground floor stage concluded with the laying of the final four courses of blocks on the lintel taking the height to the level specified in the architectural design. The plumber works for the ground floor and first floor was done to the specifications in the mechanical drawings N.B Mortar is a mixture of cement and sand in a mix ratio of 1:6 , Mortar is used to bond the sancrete blocks to achieve the desired bond type. The sharp sand can be partly or fully replaced with stone dust in location where stonedust is ready available. Experiments have shown that the best replacement for sharp sand with stonedust is a 50% partial replacement , this is also the best for partial replacement of sharp sand in concrete. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBbDEFK4TNs

Timberwolves:We have a team of artisans with whom we have developed a working relationship over many years. They understand the quality we desire and they deliver accordingly. |
Timberwolves:Thank you. The concrete mixture for this project was done by volume using head pans/ wheel barrows. 1 bag of cement would can be poured into 2 head pans, therefore the mix ratio by headpans was fone by mixing 1 bag of cement : 4 head pans of sand : 8 head pans of gravel. We put as little water as possible while still maintaining a workable mixture because workability of concrete is very important in concrete placement. For larger projects with significant concrete volume, harneyprojects employes the use of a batching plant where concrete is mixed by weight. |
Foundation blockwork Blockwork preceded the foundation concrete works. It involved the placement of sancrete blocks on the strip footing bonded with mortar(a combination of cement and sharp sand (1:6). The blocks are laid to the Damp proof course (DPC) level specified in the architectural design. The specified height above Natural ground level (NGL) is 1.25m. The foundation blockwork was filled with concrete with a mix ration of 1:4:8 Foundation Colunms ,Pinth Beams and Damp proof course (DPC) This involved reinforcement work, concrete works and carpentry works. The plinth beam became necessary due to the height of the foundation columns and was provided to prevent buckling The reinforcement works was done to structural specifications and involved 4Y16 as main bars and Y10-200 c/c as shear reinforcement ( rings) for both the columns and plinth beam. The carpentry works involved covering up the sides and providing bracing against failure. A combination of 1'' X 12' boards, 2'' x 4'' planks of wood and 3'' nails were used for the carpentry works. The concrete was mixed to a mixed ratio of 1:2:4 conforming to the specified mix ratio in the structural design. The concrete was placed and compacted with a vibrating machine to avoid honeycomb and voids in the concrete. N.B - - ' sign denotes feet. An imperial system of measurement - '' sign denotes inches.
