Damp proof course (DPC) formwotn and concrete placement The DPC formwork was done with combinations of 1''x120 planks and 2'' *4'' Wood for bracing and concrete placement was done to a mixed ratio of 1:2 :4.

Laterite filling / Hardcore and Damp proof membrane (DPM) placement Laterite filing and compaction of the filling with a mechanical compactor was done after completion of the blockwork. After which hardcore and DPM were put in place. The placement of DPM is a regularly neglected phase in the building construction industry in Nigeria, failure to put the DPM before casting of the damp proof floor (DPC) would allow rise of moisture through the foundation block work leading to damage of screeding and painting layers.

Foundation Blockwork The block work commenced 2 days after the concrete works of the pad and Strip The blocks were laid in accordance with the foundation layout drawings. Due to the depth of the foundation and carrying levels of the pad base, grade beams with depths of 300mm were introduced The foundation blockwork was filled with concrete.

Pad Base and Strip Base concreting. The layman term for this phase of work is Blinding. The Strip foundation that would carry the load of the foundation blockwork, dpc and ground floor blockwork has a depth of 225mm while the pad foundation that would carry the colunms, beams and slab has a depth of 350mm. The concrete was mixed with a concret mixer and placement done with labourers. The concret had a mixed ratio of 1:2:4 ( One bag of cement : four head pan of sand : eight head pan of gravel) according to BS/NS code specifications.

lalajnr:Harneyprojects wrote an article last year titled the " Ajaokuta steel company debacle". There is currently a glut of steel in the market due to excess production from china. The Nigerian government needs to do away with the Ajaokuta steel company due to foundational errors made while setting it up. You can read the article here https://www.harneyprojects.com/single-post/2018/05/27/ajaokuta-steel-industry-debacle |
Next step was obtaining a storage space for cement and other working equipment. The space would also the security and serve as an office. The choice was between buying a berger container or building store with zince and wood. We went in the direction if building a store as a cost saving alternative but buying a container would still ve necessary in the future.
|
The first step was obtaining a production location. Every business must be sighted close to a its market or source of raw materials as dictated in Economics 101. A site was found in Kubwa close to a river that would seeve as a source of water. A production site was leased for 6 months for a relatively fair amount. |
