Samony:A soil test and structural design would go a long way in preventing any future structural collapse. Unless the bearing capacity of the soil and structural is known, its impossible to critique the actions of your engineer. Its not too late to get a structural design if you don't already have one |
capsogiga:Technical blinding is differnet from the Strip footing but there is a general confusion about what both represent. Blinding is different from strip footing and they both serve different functions. I want to assume by blinding you mean the strip footing. The footing is meant to be design based on the load of the building but from experience and similarities in load carrying capacity of our bungalows, the stop fitting should fall within the range of 150mm - 225mm a have a width of 675mm. |
This concludes this stage of the project. The filling and Dpc would follow next when work resumes in a few weeks time. Thank you |

Grade Beam A grade beam with a dimension of 225mm x 300mm was placed on the exterior blockworks due to the hieght of the foundation blockwork. The grade beam involved capentry work, reinforcement works and concrete work. 4 Y12 was provided as the main bars while 8mm bars was placed as the distribution bars.

Foundation blockwork After the conclusion of the Strip and pad foundation concrete work commonly called blinding, the next phase of work is the laying of the foundation blockwork by the masons. A total of 4000 blocks were in 6 days. 9inch blocks were used for the foundation. The blocks were laid to a height of 1.5m specified in the architectural design which is approximately 5 coaches of block. The block holes were filled with weak concrete with a mix ration of 1:4:8

Strip footing concrete works Preceding the concreting was the placement of the reinforcement for the Architectural columns. Concreting involved the placement of concrete in the excavated pit to serve as the strip footing with a dimension of 675mm x 150mm. This process is called "blinding by laymen". The concrete was mixed properly and placed.

checkmatez:The flat roof offers the same heat resistance as your regular hip roof. The POP ceiling offers significant thermal resistivity, so your rooms would be cool. |
EazyMoh:I don't know of any disadvantages. We built a similar structure and don't have any issues till date.
|
petikal:We are working on a project where the entire structure would be treated wood and glass We are still in the conceptual stage.

Leveling Operation Leveling operation was carried out with the aid of a dumpy level to a certain the differential levels of the foundation due to the topography of the soil. An average strip footing thickness of 225mm was accertained which is in accordance for best practice for strip foundations used for bungalows.

First floor construction This involved masonry works, reinforcement works, carpentry works and concrete works for the lintel and columns. Reinforcement works This involved the reinforcement works for the first floor colunms and lintel . Y16mm reinforcement bars was used for the columns with 10mm reinforcement bars for the links. The lintel had a combination of 12mm reinforcement bars and 10mm reinforcement bars for the links. The structural drawings for the columns indicated 4Y16 and the links are Y10 @ 200mm c/c . The lintel is also 4Y12 with links of Y10 @ 300mm c/c Masonry works This involved laying of 9'' and 6'' blocks bonded with mortar . The blocks are laid to the height specified in the architectural drawings . A combination of plum, line., square and levelling instrument was used to ensure a well-levelled block. Due to the height involved, extra precautions were taking for the safety of the masons. Capentry works This involved the use of 1'' x12''x 12' , 1'' x 9'' x 12' , 1'' x 6'' x 12' machine sawed planks to cover the vertical sides and suffix of the lintels and colunms. A combination of 2'' x 4 '' woods and binding wire were used to brace the planks against failure. Concrete works This involved placement of in-situ concrete for the columns and lintels. The mix ratio used was 1:2:4 and the concrete was well vibrated with a vibrating machine. A concrete mixer was used to ensure consistent well mixed workable concrete.
