Microsoft is working hard to bring Windows 10 devices in sync, so the majority of features that are currently available on PC are also offered to mobile phones, with the firm aiming to provide the same look, feel, and feature pack no matter the device and screen size. One way to connect phones and PCs was a feature called “Messaging Everywhere,” which Microsoft discontinued earlier this year in order to replace it with a newer implementation baptized SMS Relay that makes a little bit more sense for the company’s plans. With SMS Relay, users are allowed to connect their Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile devices and synchronize text messages, while also being able to send SMS right from the desktop. Update Skype Preview to get it Previously introduced to users who were enrolled in the Windows Insider program’s fast ring, SMS Relay has recently been promoted to the Release Preview ring, which is the last important step before public release. This means that testing and bug hunting have completed successfully until now and the feature only has one more milestone to reach before getting the go-ahead. Microsoft hasn’t actually announced the availability of SMS Relay for users in the Release Preview ring, but users who are running Windows 10 builds delivered as part of this channel started seeing it a couple of days ago. Skype Preview needs to be updated in order to get access to SMS Relay, so simply fire up the store and go update the app if you want to give it a try. For the moment, there is no information regarding the target launch date for SMS Relay, and since the new feature is currently being tested with Windows insiders, it makes sense for Microsoft to keep such details away from our ears. Bugs can hold back the release at the very last minute, and this would obviously disappoint users, so it’s just better for Microsoft to continue working on the feature behind closed doors and release it when it’s ready. Nonsense. Do we have enough in the country? Let alone the south east. They are just selling it to African restaurants in the US to make money via currency exchange. Dollar things. |
The first ever Sucuri – Hacked Website Report provided so much wealth of information that Softpedia had material for two stories. The company’s report for Q2 comes once again to provide more insight into the world of website hacking, where WordPress continued to be the most targeted platform. Based on the most recent report, things didn’t change from Q1 at all. Sucuri experts called in to investigate hacked websites continued to clean out more WordPress sites than anything else. Three in four hacked websites was running WordPress Statistics showed that investigators disinfected a WordPress installation every four websites. Of course, WordPress having a +50% market share was the reason why most hackers concentrate their efforts on the CMS since they have a bigger attack surface to play with. The other CMS platforms on this list were Joomla (16 percent), Magento (5 percent), Drupal (2 percent), and vBulletin (0.32 percent). But this stat isn’t saying why these sites got hacked. A better stat is that showing the percentage of compromised sites running out-of-date software. Here, only 55 percent of the hacked WordPress sites were running an out-of-date version. WordPress was in a much rosy position compared to Magento, where 96 percent of all hacked websites had been compromised because their owners forgot to update. In fact, WordPress was in the best position among all major CMSs, with Joomla’s percentage being 86 percent, and Drupal with 84 percent. Out-of-date WordPress plugins continue to be a big problem The reason why WordPress still had a very large number of hacked websites, despite running up-to-date versions was that webmasters usually forgot to update plugins. In Q1, Sucuri discovered that a quarter of hacked WordPress sites could be attributed to three plugins: TimThumb, GravityForms, and RevSlider. In Q2, the same three plugins accounted for 22 percent of all hacked WordPress sites, showing that admins are still using the same ol’ hackable add-ons, and that very few learned anything from Sucuri’s first report. wordpress-continues-to-be-by-far-the-most-hacked-cms-508558-4 Backdoors continued to be the most prevalent type of infection, found on 71 percent of all hacked websites, most likely used to alter the owner’s website or to reinfect the system after inefficient clean-ups. A new addition to the Sucuri report is in regards to the number of websites that have already been blacklisted at the time the company cleaned them up. Sucuri discovered that 18 percent of websites they were cleaning had already been blacklisted online, via Google’s Safe Browsing service, Norton’s SafeWeb service, the Yandex scanner, or McAfee’s SiteAdvisor. “A website being flagged by a Blacklist like Google can be devastating to a website’s functionality,” Sucuri notes. “It can affect how visitors access a website, how it ranks in Search Engine Result Pages (SERP) and also adversely affect communication mediums, like email.” For more insight, you can download the company’s Hacked Website Report for Q2 2016. wordpress-continues-to-be-by-far-the-most-hacked-cms-508558-2 By Catalin Cimpanu http://gtbensmag.com/2016/09/26/wordpress-is-still-the-most-hacked-cms-today/ |

Very true my brother. Got this info from Nigeria's Linux and IT Magazine online. |
postgre is not as fast but its as robust and easy to use. It is also open source so it gets updates and patches quicker from individuals and communities all over the world. Postgre runs on Linux, Windows and more plus its not controlled by Oracle unlike MySQL. It will be around for a long time but MySQL can be abandoned or restrict certain support or even updates now that its owned by Oracle. |
Arun Sureshkumar, an Indian security researcher, has received a substantial reward from Facebook’s security team after helping the company patch a serious bug in its Facebook Pages feature. The researcher revealed that he was able to identify a method that allowed him to hijack any Facebook Page he wished to, leveraging a flaw in the Facebook Business Manager, an application Facebook created to let businesses manage Facebook Pages in case more than one employee needed access to edit and post content. "Researcher could have hijacked any Facebook Page he wanted" Sureshkumar says that, at the heart of the issue, is an IODR (Insecure Direct Object References) flaw. An attacker that was aware of the flaw could exploit this issue by intercepting HTTP requests made to the Facebook server, finding specific arguments in the request and editing several parameters. The attacker could modify the Facebook page parameter, the Facebook user parameter, and the management role parameter to set himself up as an approved editor for any Facebook Page he’d like. Sureshkumar says the attack worked against any Facebook Page, including the ones of high-profile figures such as Barrack Obama and Bill Gates. "Facebook discovered more bugs thanks to Sureshkumar’s report" The researcher disclosed the issue to Facebook in private, and the company decided to pay him an above-average reward because they discovered and patched several other problems while investigating his report. Back in April 2016, Sureshkumar received another $10,000 from Facebook after he found a way to hijack Facebook accounts by brute-forcing the lookaside.facebook.com subdomain, which Facebook’s team forgot to protect. That bug report was based on another one from Anand Prakash, who discovered in March a method to reset user passwords and take over anyone’s accounts. Sureshkumar recorded proof-of-concept videos for both bugs, which you can view below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSnksWX5Kn0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PISq04cauOQ |
PowerPoint is one of those programs whose use has become so ingrained in the corporate world that it is probably running the risk of becoming completely generalized, in the same way that some people use Kleenex to refer to all tissues, or BAND-AIDs to refer to all bandages. But presenting a slideshow doesn’t have to mean using PowerPoint. There are a number of totally capable open source alternatives to PowerPoint for giving visual presentations. In many cases, the features of these “alternatives” are so compelling that, unless you’re absolutely forced to use PowerPoint, I don’t know why you still would. I’ve got a few new presentations to give coming up in the next couple of months that are essentially being developed from scratch, I thought it would be a great time to take a look at all of the open source presentation tools out there, and decide if it would be a good time to try out a new tool for any of these upcoming talks. It’s also worth taking a little time to ask yourself what assumptions you are making about your presentation needs, and what kind of tool makes the most sense to use. For example, do you need to be able to present off of any computer, or share your presentation with others and be assured that they will be able to open it? Will Internet access be assured when you’re presenting, or do you need a solution that will work offline as well? Full article on .... http://gtbensmagazine.com |
PostgreSQL is one of the most popular object-relational database management system (shortened to ORDBMS) and is 100% open-source. It is not purely about relations anymore: PostgreSQL is more and more about NoSQL as well. The following article is a short tutorial to set up PostgreSQL 9.5 on Fedora 24, so it can be used for a development environment. For a production deployment, it is recommended to use a different set-up and harden the service. The set of PostgreSQL database packages in Fedora’s stable repositories are almost identical to the upstream set of RPMs. There are client tools in the postgresql package. The client library in the postgresql-libs package is often required by various connectors. The most important part of the database, the daemon, is available in the postgresql-server package. Some more server-side extensions, tools, or supporting packages may be listed by running the following command in a terminal. Full Article on.. http://gtbensmagazine.com |
