A PASSIONATE APPEAL TO THOSE WHO VALUE EDUCATION..

In the words of great freedom fighter NELSON MANDELA 'Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world'. Today, i pen down my tears, my fears on behalf of millions of student all over the country currently affected by the strike action of the academic staff union of universities (ASUU). Today i am not writing to support any party or to praise any party but to make a passionate appeal to all parties involved that an end should be put to this strike. Permit me to say this 'it's a shame that in this century, despite the major challenges facing the world at large, the most populous black nation on earth is still faced by the challenges of education'.

Today i write on behalf of the millions of student out there, we have been made to believe that education is the only way out of poverty, that education is the only way we can tackle ignorance, that education is the most powerful tool in the world but what happens if the education we all crave for is halted
Just over a week ago, ASUU embarked on an indefinite strike over the failure of the federal government to honour its agreement signed with the union, amidst other problems. I remember vividly when the 2013 strike happened, i was just a young boy about to leave secondary school and at that time people close to me who were in the university then cried their hearts out. I must say honestly then i didn't know the reason behind their tears, but today i understand much better than they do because i am in their shoes currently and i understand how it feels when academic activities is halted while others in private universities are receiving lectures and probably having a cup of coffee and laughing at our predicament, isn't that enough??

Today once again, i want to make a passionate appeal to all parties involved that they should bury the hatchet and let us go back to the classroom. After going through kindergarten, nursery, primary, secondary, waec, jamb and for some post jamb only to be fazed with strike in the university, isn't this suicidal?? Please do not jeopardise our future, at least not again. Student will this recent action will now spend probably 5-7 years for a 4 year course if proper action is not taken in earnest and to make matters worst, multi-national companies will now demand for a 4 year working experience from a job seeker who have spent about 5-7 years in the university and he is 26. I wont mention names but i urge every influential individual out there to help our cause and appeal to both parties to reach an agreement and call of the strike.

To those who value education , to those who want light over darkness, please look into our matter and let's return to our class rooms.

NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN BILL
PUTTING AN OLD WINE IN A NEW GLASS
I can’t help but laugh at the way present day Nigerian youth are jubilating over the not too young to run bill instead of going indoors and crying over the new means our so call leaders have created in order to further marginalize the youth from governance and prove to us about their national anthem which is “you are the leaders of tomorrow”. Before I go into details of what my article encapsulates, I will state what the not too young to run bill entails which is The #NotTooYoungToRun Bill seeks to alter the Section 65, 106, 131, 177 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) to reduce the age qualification for the office of the President from 40 years to 30 years; Governor 35 to 30, Senate 35 to 30, House of Representatives 30 to 25 and State House of Assembly 30 to 25. The Bill also seeks to mainstream independent candidacy into Nigeria’s electoral process.
The Nigerian senate on Wednesday July 26 2017 passed the much anticipated bill, after an electronic vote which showed that 86 senators showed their support, while 10 were against it, however, one lawmaker abstained. One thing that struck me while the youths were jubilating is that “ who is fooling who? Our politicians have found a way to cheat us again” that can we read through the lines that our politicians have structured our political system in such a way that they come up with sweet plans and agendas but deep down, there is another motive to the plan intended. One testimony to this is that Nigeria is believed to operate a multi party system but in actual sense, the country operates a two party system. A confirmation to this is that the two major parties which is the all progressive congress and the people’s democratic party currently holds 90% of governorship seats in the country.
This is where the not too young to run bill comes into play, imagine a 35 year old man, who decides to run for the post of president in the 2019 elections under the flagship of any of the two major parties and he is told there is someone who is a little bit old and more experienced than he is vying for the same post. After much persuasion, if he decides to leave about not getting a chance and goes to the other party only to see that it’s the same everywhere. After much deliberation with his not too young to run crew, they decides to setup a new party and there is a constitutional procedure which must be followed.
They go through the process of forming a new party, working together, trying to canvass for votes. Let’s not forget, the major parties which the young man was denied comes up with a 65 year old man as their candidate which further brings the not too young bill into question. Some might argue what if the youth were given the chance, but I stand to be corrected, the current crop of politician we have, which we all know would rather give the son or daughter of a man from their clique who have spent his entire life abroad feeding on money stolen by his father, rather than give a poor youth with potentials the chance ,further questions the not too young to run bill.
I do not want to be seen as someone who is the against the youth, but before the not too young vision we all have could grow into reality the way we all crave for, much things must be done. Instead of going over to the not too young to run which to me is like jumping from 1 to 5 leaving out 2,3 and 4, why not “not too young to be politically educated”. I think it’s time for total review of our curriculum and add this which would aid our reasoning to meet the demands of this 21st century rather than the debate over the removal or Christian religious studies or Islamic religious studies. I know many might wonder why this initiative? Because I feel it the right steps to aid and make the not too young to run vision we all crave for come true. I remember just over two weeks ago, when the local government elections were held across Lagos state, while coming out of my hostel room that Saturday to take a stroll with my friend who had to sleep over because we wanted to watch a Chelsea vs arsenal match that Saturday, he called my attention to a discussion which was going on amongst my neighbor which I was paying rapt attention to but decides to act otherwise, the discussion was amongst 5 people and by my calculation the oldest should be around 27 or 28 years was that if any politician can pay 2000 ( two thousand naira) when they get to the polling booth, they will vote for the person and I stood and wonder 2000 naira and suffer for the next 4 years? And this again called my attention to the not too young to run bill, are these set of people that will champion the not too young to run vision?
To actualize our dreams and for a better Nigeria where youth with potentials and innovation will rule, much work needs to be done and it start with I and you.

Another disastrous season loading...
As football fans prepare for a new season, let me once again congratulate winners from each league in the previous season and urge them to move on as the new season is just few days away.
Going to the main point of this writeup, Chelsea fc last season stunned the world by becoming champions of the English premier league after a disastrous season which saw them missed out on the uefa champions league, but sadly a repeat is about to happen.
Chelsea fc finished 10th in the 2015/16 season after becoming champions in the previous season, and this dismal display saw José mourinho leave the blues for the second time with the club appointing guus hinddik for the remainder of the season. Fast forward to the 2016/17 season, chelsea appointed antonio conte to take over the helm of affairs at the club with the aim of cementing their place back in the top four and clinching a champions league spot and luckilly they became champions. A repeat of the 2015/16 season is upon the club and i urge every fan of the club to brace up for the challenge if the club fails to sign key players before the transfer window closes. No doubt, the club have signed four new players which are willy cabballero, alcavaro morata, antoni rudigier and tiemoune bakayoko but with the mass exodus from the winning team which include john terry, nathan ake, nnemanja matic, asmir begovic, nathaniel chalobah leaving permanently not forgetting the likes of ola aina, reuben loftus cheek going on loan and the current saga of Diego Costa, no doubt the signings is not enough or perhaps wont be enough for the club to challenge for honours in the coming season with the club taking part in more competitions than of last season.
Considering the activities of title rivals Manchester city, Manchester united in the transfer window one might help but pity Antonio conte who according to reports have become frustrated at the clubs inability to spend big in the transfer market. With the transfer market still few week away from closing, fans can hope the club would spend big and avoid a repeat of the disastrous 2015/2016 campaign.

This was written earlier by someone, after much thoughts, i decided to go deep into this certain topic. Its no news real Madrid won their 12th champions league trophy with a convincing 4-1 win over Italian champions juventus. Real Madrid since zidane appointment have been on a high, winning the champions league twice, champions in spain amongst a host of others. The main focus of this post is on TONI KROOS one of the key players in Madrid history making team. Toni kroos was part of the German team and the third best player at the world youth u-17 championship held in south Korean in 2007.
The world youth u-17 championship hosted by south Korea was won by the golden eaglet of Nigeria which had the likes of macauley chrisantus, Lukman Haruna, Rabiu Ibrahim, Rafael Ademola, Akinsola, Oseni, Alfa, Edile, Ajiboye and the likes. After the competition in.2007, toni kroos has gone from a young and promising player into a world class midfielder playing in the best club in the world. After the competition, little or nothing can be said about the progress of Nigerian players.
In my opinion, i think this is a slap on the face of the Nigerian football federation who in the past have done little or nothing to aid the progress of youngsters who have represented the country. Toni kroos has won 3 of the last 5 champions league final which equals the total number of champions league trophies won by Nigerians, with finidi george, nnwankwo kanu and john obi mikel being Nigeria's only recipient of the most prestigious football club trophy in the world. Also, players from the tournament who have gone to make a big progress in the career include
Manchester united david de gea, bojan kric and a host of others.
Toni kross progress should be a wake up call to the Nigeria football federation....

I know most chelsea fans are tires of reading chelsea being linked with a player everyday and with the club making little or no effort to sign them. According to recent reports, the main reason why chelsea havent signed any player is the recent deal with nike. Chelsea recently agreed to terminate their deal with addidas and join giants nike, and under contract any player signed by chelsea before july 1 will be announced under addidas and that might be a breach of contract. THE DVD QUESTION
Most might be wondering if this post is about the digital versatile disc " or "digital video disc" player known as dvd player, about its advantages or disadvantages but you all got it wrong. This post is about the trend in the menace domestic violence which has left so many questions unanswered, also several chats with a course mate and good friend of mine gave me a few insights in putting up this post, this is why i adopted the dvd which for the purpose of this post stands for DOMESTIC VIOLENCE DOCTRINE.
A doctrine is a belief or set of beliefs held by certain humans on certain subject. Being an ardent listener of a popular news programme on radio every morning, no single day passes by without report of a magistrate court dissolving a marriage over infidelity or claims on domestic violence. This made me wonder why there is a rise in this ugly trend.
Facts available to me both oral and written states that this menace was no where to be found in the 70's or 90's, one wonders why there is a sudden augment in this menace. An excerpt drawn out from popular search engine wikipedia states that
"Domestic violence is widespread and shows no signs of lessening in Nigeria. The CLEEN Foundation reports 1 in every 3 respondents admitting to being a victim of domestic violence. The survey also found a nationwide increase in domestic violence in the past 3 years from 21% in 2011 to 30% in 2013. A CLEEN Foundation’s 2012 National Crime and Safety Survey demonstrated that 31% of the national sample confessed to being victims of domestic violence"
The above stats ascertain the fact that this menace has turned to a doctrine amongst some people in this part of the world. The big question is

all things being equal, my final football post of the season, i promised to commend victor moses effort this season, also pay tribute to john terry before my post tales of two London's

1. VICTOR MOSES - THE NEVER SAY NEVER GUY
most Nigerians familiar with the music scene would be aware of the title i have chosen. After much thinking on the right words to describe victor, i found this as the perfect word to describe him, with the way his career has been from a young boy at crystal palace to Wigan then Chelsea. Born in Lagos in 1990, Moses began his career in the championship with crystal palace before moving to Wigan. After 2 years, he moved to Chelsea in 2012. His first season at the club was pretty good as he scored 10 goals also with winning the uefa Europa league. Sooner rather than later, moses found himself in aeries of loan spells at Liverpool, stoke and Westhampton respectively. At first, one might feel his Chelsea career is over due to the number of player the club has sent out in the last 2 years but the never say never attitude in him earned him a new contract coupled with a starting place in the first xi. I have nothing but words of admiration for the wing back. In my words, i would say " victor is a guy who never allowed circumstances around his early childhood deter his success. A great guy who had been patient enough to earn his place among the threats, also he is a role model to young player as his transition from a winger or perhaps a striker into a right wing back and performed excellently is no mean feat as only few players in the world would adapt in such situation. His stellar performance in the just concludes season earned him being named pfa fans player of the month for November 2016.

2. JOHN TERRY - THE 26TH ELEMENT
Few weeks ago, john terry announced he would leave the club at the end of the season, this means john terry will end his 18 year stay at the club and also just last weekend john played his last game at Stamford bridge in a Chelsea shirt in front of the blues faithfuls. John terry moved to Chelsea going through the youth and reserves before establishing himself as one of the best defenders to ever play the game. Arguably the greatest captain in premier league history, terry has won a handful of trophies and this include 5 premier league titles, 5 fa cups, 3 football league cups, 1 champions league and 1 Europa league trophy.

3. TALES OF TWO LONDON'S
This originally is my post for the fa cup final, i just had to fulfill a promise i made earlier. Although i wanted to use "TWO SIDES OF A COIN" as the title but i decided to ho with this as it best suits the game. Chelsea and arsenal enjoyed a contrasting 2016/17 season with the former winning the premier league title while the latter missed out on the champions league for the first time in about 20 years. After a 10th placed finish in the 2015/16 season, Chelsea bounced back and enjoyed a roller coaster ride since it switched to 3-4-3 winning more games more than any premier league side while arsenal on the other hand had a torrid season. Chelsea's faced bigger teams in the competition than arsenal as they faced former champions leicester city, europa league winners manchedter united and high flying Tottenham hotspurs while arsenal faced Manchester city as their biggest test and maybe giant killers Lincoln city. On paper, Chelsea should win today's game as Antonio conte said yesterday in his press conference that all player are fit. On the other hand, arsenal key players are battling with injuries while some are suspended. Football isn't word of mouth, its a 90 minute game. May the best team win.

A critical analysis of all top six teams in the premier league.. 2017/18 premier league season in view..
CHELSEA: premier league champions deservedly.. Chelsea remains the only team currently with all but one first team player with at least one season premier league experience, which was crucial in the clubs bid to win the premier league. Chelsea fc expectedly this summer will not sell any of their top players aside diego costa who might leave for China.. A few decent signings would improve the team and if much opportunities are given to the youths it will help the club in its bid to retain the title, also in the champions league and perhaps challenge for titles in the nearest future.
TOTTENHAM: arguably the best attacking side in the premier league, loosing out narrowly for the second year running in the title race perhaps might be a sad one for the spurs faithfuls but positive signs can be taken from this run.. Tottenham hotspurs as seen in the past might struggle to keep hold of their best players due to the financial power of some clubs, but if they can keep this side for some years also with some decent signings, they might win the premier league title which they have longed for.
MANCHESTER CITY: they left many of their fans unhappy last season, signing pep guardiola was a huge boost for the club in it bid to win the premier league but were let down as the team ended the team trophyless. Manchester city have started their new season quite early, but one great mistake they have made is to release some of the experience players. Although one might argue they need fresh legs but keeping some of this experienced players would go a long way to help the new player's find their feet in the league. City's performance against big and experienced teams last season was below par.
LIVERPOOL: direct opposite of Manchester city, Liverpool had a decent record against big teams last season but lost to smaller teams.. For the team to launch it title challenge next season, they need to spend big and sign big players not mediocre ones.
ARSENAL: the second biggest news coming from the premier league last season after Chelsea premier league win. Arsenal expectedly missed out on their famous top four last season. Now they team need to get back to winning ways.. Winning the Europa league next season might be the click they need, also a complete overhaul of the team and perhaps maybe it time for Wenger to end his 21 year stay.
MANCHESTER UNITED: Even in a season the team didn't hope for, they manage to get their hands on two major trophies. They have a great coach in jose mourinho, few signings and pogba stepping up his game would help the team a lot in the coming season..

THE LAST ASSIGNMENT- A CHANCE TO BE AMONG THE BIG BOYS
My golden pen has decide to leave London to another destination, Sweden is the country and the venue is friends arena Stockholm.
The 2017 uefa Europa league final will be played at the friends arena in solna, Sweden today 24 may 2017 between Dutch side AJAX FC and English side MANCHESTER UNITED. Due to changes in the rule guiding uefa club cup competitions, the winner of the uefa Europa league will enter the group stages of the uefa champions league automatically for the next season with Spanish side sevilla fc being the first beneficiary of the rule since it was made.
STOCKHOLM AND FRIENDS ARENA
Stockholm is the capital of Sweden. It is a city built on water with 30% of the city's 4.900km area being water, also another 30% of the area is made up of parks and 'green zones'. The population of Stockholm is approximately 1.5 million which is over one-sixth of the entire population of Sweden. The city has a number of highly regarded universities and holds a high percentage of the country's professions.
The friends arena since its opening on 25 October 2012 hass served as Sweden national stadium. The stadium currently holds a capacity of 50,653. Also, the friends arena has hosted some top games. E.g Sweden vs England which the host won 4-2, it is also the first game to be played in the new stadium, also the uefa women euro final between Germany and Norway in 2013 amongst others.
ROAD TO STOCKHOLM
having lost 5-2 on aggregate to Russian side FC Rostov in the qualifying stages of the uefa champions league, ajax found themselves placed into group G of the uefa Europa league alongside panathinaikos, celta Vigo and standard liege. On 15 September, ajax began their Europa league campaign with a 2-1 away win over panathinaikos, followed by a 1-0 win and 2-2 draw against standard liege and celta Vigo respectively. This was followed by a 3-2 win over celta Vigo, match day 5 saw ajax progresses into the next stage of the competition with a game to spare as they won 2-0 over panathinaikos. The drew 2-2 in their last game of the group stages at standard liege.
In the round of 32, ajax were drawn against polish side liega Warsaw and they progressed with a 1-0 aggregate win. Also in the round of 16, Ajax were paired against fc Copenhagen of Denmark and they moved past fc Copenhagen to set up a quarter final clash with German side fc shackle 04 and they were victorious. The final before the final for ajax was when they were drawn against fc Lyon of France and they were 5-4 winners to progress into the finals.
MANCHESTER UNITED on the other hand were drawn against feyenoord, zorya and fernabache in the group stages of the Europa league. Manchester united progressed to the found of 32 with 4 wins and 2 losses. In the round of 32, Manchester united were paired against French side st-Etienne and they were 4-0 winners on aggregate. Also in the round of 16, man.utd were paired against Russian side fc Rostov and they won 2-1 on agregate to set up a quarter final clash with Belgian side Anderlecht and they were 3-2 winners on agreegate as they moved to the semi finals of the competition. Manchester united were drawn against celta Vigo in the semis and they won 2-1 to set up an epic final clash with ajax fc.
THE LAST ASSIGNMENT
Ajax fc finished second in the dutch league behind eventual winners feyenoord who won the league for the first time in 18 years while Manchester united famously finished 6th in the English premier league which means both teams have missed out on automatic qualifications from their respective league, although ajax have a chance to be in the champions league even if they lose as they are in the qualifying stages of the competition. This will be the first meeting between the two teams in the competition.
A win for ajax would mean much success for the team and coach peter bosz who took charge of the club in the summer following his departure from another dutch side vitesse. On the other hand, a win for coach José mourinho and Manchester united would create history. Jose mourinho on his part have never lost a final, while a win for Manchester united mean they would join the league of illustrious clubs who have won all uefa club cup competition, currently only final opponent ajax fc, Italian champions juventus fc, German champions Bayern Munich and premier league champions Chelsea fc have won all uefa club cup competitions.
On paper Manchester united are favourites to win even though they have been inconsistent all season long. Ajax fc on their part would strive to win their first European honours in 22 years and would prefer to go into next seasons uefa champions league automatically rather than the qualifying rounds having lost out the previous year. May the best team wins...

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES

On Friday 12th may, Chelsea fc were crowned champions for the second time in 3 years courtesy of unsung hero mitchy batshuayi late strike against westbrom. It's a thing of surprise to see how the team had developed over a period of 9 months following a shameful 2015/16 premier league season which saw the then defending champions 10th on the log. The season also earmarked the worst season under roman abrahamovic since he took over the helm of affairs at the club. Also, after series of shameful display from team and a report of fall out between the coach José mourinho and some players, José mourinho was sacked and was replaced by Gus hindink also a former coach who won the fa cup with the blues in 2009. To further add to the woes of the club that season, in a game against Leicester on may 16 2016 Chelsea fc players were pictured lining up for a guard of honour for the Leicester players following their fairy tale ride as they were crowned champions against all odds that season, the game ended 1-1.
Fast forward to the 2016/17 premier league campaign, the club appointed Italian Antonio conte as first team manager following the end of Gus hindink reign as the interim coach. Having finished 10th the previous season, the 2016/17 season means no European competition for the west London side.
In other to get back to winning ways, the club signed mitchy batshuayi from Marseille, ngolo kante from Leicester, Marcos Alonso from Florentina, also the transfer day deadline saw the return of fans favourite David luiz from psg having left three years before. The 2016/17 season also witnessed the move of great coaches into the English premier league with José mourinho returning this time with Manchester united, following a successful 3 year stint with Bayern Munich pep guardiola also moved to the epl to join Manchester city while arsene Wenger continued his 21 year stay at arsenal football club. With this experienced coaches, no soothsayer would have predicted Chelsea fc as premier league champions come may, even most football pundits ruled out the chance of Chelsea becoming champions with many predicting a top four finish is more realistic and achievable for the team than winning the premier league.
Chelsea started the season with wins against west ham, Watford and Burnley respectively which changed the notion about the club being a contender rather than a pretender. However, a 2-2 draw at Swansea followed by back to back losses to Liverpool and arsenal respectively saw the team placed 8th at the end of September. The news going rounds is that 'orente crooner' adekunle gold has left ybnl. In a brief chat with planet TV, adekunle gold said
“My contract has expired and that’s it. In YBNL you don’t renew contract. Olamide signed us for two years, so that by yourself, you can hustle and make things happen. I don’t have my record label now, so I’m on my own for now… I don’t know about record label and I don’t have the vision to have one now.”
This has got me wondering why there are non renewal of contracts at YBNL? and who gain or loses more in this kind of situation? The artist or the record label?

On the artist part, one might feel they still need a few more years to get their feet in the industry although they are a force to reckon with in the industry. On the other hand, this decision means adekunle gold has followed the path of erstwhile label mate lil kesh, leaving YBNL with label boss olamide, viktoh and davolee as its main artist.

With the news arsenal lost to Tottenham courtesy of a dele ali strike and a penalty from harry Kane, people expected a better performance from the team not because of the need to help Chelsea but to close the gap on the top 5 teams and with the aim to finish in the top four but sadly arsenal were outplayed by spurs..

Chelsea fc currently lead the epl table with 4 points over fierce rival Tottenham, but sadly their opponent arsenal are fifth on the table.. Chelsea fc has been in superb form this season winning 13 games in a row, nothing can be said of arsenal who are fifth on the log and risk not going to the champions league next season although they gave a game at hand..

Though i didn't watch the match between arsenal and spurs, but from all indications arsenal were battered by spurs with petr cech arguably being arsenals best player. To think this inform talented and young spurs team lost to chelsea who happens to be arsenal fc opponent in the final of the fa.cup just a week ago.
Chelsea fc earlier defeated everton 3-0 courtesy of goals from pedro, cahill and substitute willian. this chelsea fc team going for a double have shown no signs of loopholes in any area of the team....
