She was fierce and she stood by her principles. She wasn't the boss' boss but she had a say . . . a firm say.



She was never late to work, even if she was out of town. So what excuses would other workers have? There were many times she had had to fly to work. She wouldn't take no from anyone. She wasn't mean, she was just doing her duties like she always explained whenever if feels like she had hurt someone's feelings. She really didn't care but a little politeness wouldn't hurt. Would it?



So this day was unusual. She was late. She had gone out of town as usual but the little miss let fun get the best part of her. And while she rushed into her freshly laid shirt and skirt, she dashed out of the apartment leaving her one night stand to find his way out.



She got to the airport and her rudeness reeked worse than her drunken state the night before. They managed to get her a seat on the plane. How relieving!



It was a different tune at work.



'The hyenana isn't here', one of the secretaries whispered.



'Don't call her that. It's not called Hyenana by the way' the other replied.



'And you think I don't already know that? Just look at the boss' face. They are almost done with the meeting and she forgot her own rules!'



'Maybe she got sick or her flight got delayed' A concerned worker chipped in.



'Mechie onu there. Are you new here? Even if you are dying, throttle your way down to work. We'll sort it out here. What could be worse than death? Make any other excuses for her and I will throw myself at you.'



'Your body too dey hot' the concerned worker jokingly and coyly left the ladies to their whisperings.



'Meeting is over gbam' the secretaries kept straight faces while the executives came out of the inner office.



And yea, the lioness chose to come in at that time.



They looked up to her expecting her to give a valid reason for her absence. And she stuttered for words. They shook their heads knowing they've left her out of that deal while she went to her desk in shame knowing she had defaulted and her chances to be a partner just got extended.



The secretaries looked at themselves. She had learned, they said in a language they both understood.
