Business › 16 Counter-productive Boss Remarks by helphelp(op): 1:17am On Oct 11, 2014
There are some boss remarks that are so counterproductive that the best strategy is simply to bite your tongue:

1. "We've always done it this way." This is not a reason for doing something. It's a reason for the boss to avoid the work of rethinking the problem or situation.

2. "Just figure it out." Employees don't ask the boss how to do something when they can figure out how to do a difficult task themselves.

3. "I don't have time for this." It can be frustrating when employees put demands on you, but a boss's primary function is to ensure employees can do their own jobs.

4. "You think that you're stressed?" Any competition to see who's more stressed is truly a waste of mental effort.

5. "Is this the best you can do?" Well, yes, it probably is the best that the employee can do. And if it's not, do you really think that the employee will admit that?

6. "Just do as I say." This remark may work with children, but employees need to know the "why" behind the "what" and "how."

7. "Sorry to interrupt your vacation, but..." If something goes wrong while an employee is on vacation, the boss should chalk it up to his own lousy planning.

8. "Your predecessor did a better job." This is ultimate unhelpful remark. All it does is make the employee feel bad without any way to improve performance.

9. "You're lucky that you have a job." On hearing this, the best employees start looking for a different job and the worst ones freeze up, worrying that they'll be fired.

10. "That's a dumb idea." A remark like this, especially when delivered during a brainstorming session, ensures that employees never surface another idea.

11. "You're doing a lousy job." When employees are floundering, the boss needs to throw them a rope, not point out that they're about to drown.

12. "You look cute today." Just don't go there. Ever.

13. "What's wrong with you?" It's insulting enough to be told that you're wrong, but it's beyond insulting to imply that the wrongness is part of who you are.

14. "Why are you so lazy?" To be useful, criticism must address the behaviors than need changing, not character or personality issues.

15. "I knew you'd fail." If the boss knew that the employee would fail, why assign that project? To make the employee feel bad?

16. "I told you so." Even if (especially if) you warned the employee that an approach wouldn't work, gloating should be beneath you.

Education › 7 Annoying Types Of Students In The Classroom (& How To Deal) by helphelp(op): 8:51am On Oct 08, 2014
School can be so unbearable sometimes can’t it?

On some days, it’s the work, and on others, it’s the teachers. But then you’ve got the days when school is killing you because of the people. Everything the people in your classes do annoy you to death. We all have those days, so here I’m identifying the annoying people in your classes, and how you should try to deal.

1. The Teacher’s Pet/Overly Competitive Classmate. She’s got all the answers, and she is not afraid to scream them out every single time the teacher asks a question. On a day you’re feeling dumb or just annoyed with the world, this person can drive you out of your mind.

How to deal: The best policy is just to ignore her, but, if you want to confront her, we’ve got the guide on how to deal right there.

2. The Class Clown. He’s the funniest person in the room…or at least he thinks so. His antics, though occasionally funny, can drive you up the wall when you are in a bad mood. Insulting the teacher, the class as a whole, or your friends has gotten old, as has hislove of being the center of attention in the classroom.

How to deal: Ignore him. Or, if you are severely annoyed at him, feel free to specifically ask him to be quiet. Confronting the teacher about the class clown for administrative action is another option, if you are that bothered.

3. The Detached Kid. His hands are probably typing furiously on his phone, his ears blocked by white headphones, he is sitting in the back corner of the classroom, and not listening to the teacher. When the teacher calls upon him for a question, he ignores her or makes an obnoxious remark.

How to deal: Face away from him and concentrate on your teacher in the front and not his annoying presence in the back. You could always pull out his headphones or grab at his phone.

4. The Clueless Girl. You really have no idea why she’s in your AP class, because she honestly has no clue what is ever going on in the class. Right after the teacher explains something, she raises her hand, confused about what he had said, inquiring endlessly. She keeps asking and asking about a simple concept you actually covered two classes ago.

How to deal: While that whole exchange is going on between your teacher and the clueless classmate,  go ahead and do some other homework, or just get ahead in that class.

5. The Shy One. This girl is in the corner of the class and you have rarely heard her say a word. When she does talk, you can barely hear her, as her voice is lower than a whisperer. She avoids everyone in class, even in groups or class discussions.

How to deal: If you are in a group with The Shy One, it’s really hard to get her to say a thing. However, if you need to work with her in a project, you’ll have to force it. Try your best to extract information from her without shutting her out.

6. The Dreamboat. He’s pretty. And you can’t stop staring at him, can you? Instead of concentrating on the class, you’re just looking at him.

How to deal: Just look straight at the teacher and at your paper, unless you have to work with him. Try not to fall prey to how pretty he is.

7. The Chatterbox. This girl is constantly chatting, whether or not the teacher is talking. She distracts everyone from what they’re doing at the moment, just to drag them into her story about what happened to her this weekend.

How to deal: Ignore her to the best of your ability. If you have to work with her, feel free to put her in line and keep her on task.

There are many kids in your classes, of all different varieties; some fit into these types, while others don’t. They all have their moments of greatness and unbearable annoyance. You might find your best friend among them. Handle them with care, and good luck!

Serendipity:
It becomes foolhardiness and unbecoming when we are unreasonably obstinate to the extent that we fail to admit the truth.
=
I stated unequivocally, that one had better acquire knowledge that there is high possibility of one using. In everything there is an opportunity cost, the opportunity cost of acquiring the knowledge of Spanish is that knowledge of Hausa language I would have acquired which will now be forfeited.
=
Now, there is a possibility that I will get to use the knowledge of Spanish, but the possibility is lesser than that of Hausa given that If would go abroad, definitely, it wouldnt be to a Spanish country. Or what's the possibility of my serving as an interpreter?
=
THE OPERATIVE WORDS HERE ARE: the possibility of using the knowledge.

==
At certain point those days, I wanted to buy a Piano and then get a trainer, but on mature reflection, it became clear, that the possibility of my using that is infinitesimal and that it would be more politic to choose something that will have bearing on my life. And I did.
=
It is better to use my time judiciously in acqisition of knowledge that use it in nugatory things.
=
Now how do you reconcile the example of Pitman Shorthand that I cited with your rejoinder?
You shouldn't have bothered with this reply.

I have been a member of this forum since 2009. And way back then, you need not click on all sections to get additional/more interesting stories. Although not in all cases, but most of the time way back then, almost all the best entertaining, informative stories makes it to the front page.

Nowadays, the reverse is the case.

So I urge all members not to limit their viewing to just the front page. Trust me, enter into all these sections randomly after you are done with the front page, you will realise and wonder why some annoying topics make front page and others don't.

Could it be incompetent MODs? Only Mr. Seun Osewa can answer for that.

Thank you and God bless Nigeria

You know all those things they as women, want you to know about them, without them actually having to tell you that you should know them? You know, the things they get mad at you for because you should know, but you don’t know, but you should know? Yes, those things. These are them. Read on and learn…

1. They will get irrational about things

This can range from pantyhose runs to a ruined pedicure, from pimples to pregnancy scares. Under no circumstances may you actually tell them they are being irrational.

2. They all agree: Funny > Hot

Your ability to make them laugh will always trump your ability to look good in a pair of Levi’s.

3. They like when you buy them things

Whether it’s a drink at the bar or a Tiffany’s necklace, buying them things (no matter how “unmaterialistic” they claim to be) will always put you in their good books.

4. They will never be their mothers

It doesn’t matter how much they love and adore them, our worst fear is turning into our mothers. Don’t ever accuse them of doing so.

5. They should never have to text you first

You wanna get with them? Then pick up the damned phone and send a text. Chances are, if you leave it up to them, you’ll be alone forever.

6. Sometimes they just have to fake it

Most of you have no idea how much time and focus it takes for them to have an orgasm (short answer: a lot). Sometimes their head just isn’t in the game and they don’t want to hurt your ego. Roll with it.

7. They remember everything

Like to an alarming degree. Be prepared.

8. They think your “three-day rule” is bull****

Sure, go ahead and wait three days to contact them. By then they'll have probably been on two more dates with the guy who had the balls to call them the next day.

9. They really do judge you by your shoes

Yes, what you put on your feet will, without a doubt, factor into their decision as to whether or not they will date you.

10. They like to sext

But they will NOT send you a picture of their genitals. Don’t ask.

11. They define cheating differently than you

Anything you do with another female that you wouldn’t do if they were standing in plain sight is cheating to them.

12. They don’t need as much PDA as you think

Contrary to popular opinion, most of them would be happy if you just held their hand while you walk around the mall.

13. They need to be constantly reassured

They don’t care how much you hate it, but if you want to keep them around, tell them how much they mean to you. And tell them a lot. Otherwise they will ask you. A lot. Like, annoyingly a lot.

14. They hate drama

But yes, they will probably cause it. Do not question this.

15. They have a very healthy sex drive too

So in other words, if they're not having sex with you it is because a) they feel fat or b) they're mad at you. Sidenote: Asking them if the problem is a) will make them b).

16. They like porn too

Sharing is caring.

17. They hate the gym

They don’t like pain and they don’t like sweat. They're doing this to look good for you. So appreciate and repay the favour. And before you ask, yes, the same applies to genital hair removal.

18. They hate waiting

Whether it’s returning a text or turning up for dinner, they HATE IT when you keep them waiting. So don’t.

19. They like to be kissed
A lot.

20. Most of the time they aren’t actually PMS’ing

They're just using it as an excuse to make you momentarily miserable.
Family › Re: Any Woman That Can't Cook Is Highly Irresponsible. by helphelp: 1:53pm On Oct 01, 2014
butanep: Any woman that can't cook is highly irresponsible and not also fit to be called a woman. It is part of the responsibility of a woman to learn how to cook as she is growing up either from her mother or foster-mother.

So when a woman fail to acquire the cooking skills as she is growing up, she has failed in her responsibility and therefore not responsible because she might end up producing children that are also irresponsible.

I get angry when with the statement " Men should teach their wife that don't know how to cook". That is ridiculous. If a woman don't know how to prepare a particular food the man like very much, that's a different case but to say she don't know how to cook... she is worth nothing, because she has wasted over 10 to 15 years to lean part of her responsibility...

A woman that can't cook clearly shows, she never assisted her mother in the kitchen or her mother don't know how to cook. That woman shouldn't be taken seriously because she will bring up children that are irresponsible as well.
What if her mama don die from childbirth.?

FP these days are questionable.

Stupid stupid topics making front page.
