The most that was done for him was that they placed a few leaves close to him as a warning to vehicles approaching but you could see from how close he was lying to the road, it was only inevitable that another vehicle was going to drive over him. Beside me, was an officer of the Nigerian army and in front was a policeman. I asked the soldier was there not anything that he could do? Call for help for the man? The police in front responded that what's the point? No hospital was going to accept him anyway. The soldier then told the driver to drive off after glaring at me.

I was silent through out the trip. My spirit shaken. That man lying there was a father, a husband.. People somewhere were waiting for his return. But there he lay. Dying the death of a dog. His family will think he was delayed by work or traffic not knowing that their father layed by the road side bleeding out and everyone acted indifferent.

It then dawned on me. Nigeria lost its humanity long ago. That's the only way to understand how the country got to where it is.
