My dear ,each of the constituent parts of the sentence have their function . If you know what they're ,you won't argue this with me.

The adverbial clause, "because she was drunk" is performing the function of an adverb, and adverbs can only modify verbs, adjectives, and another adverb, not nouns.

The clause is modifying the action, "beats up" and not describing the daughter as drunk.
Please read up grammatical function to understand this better.

"A father beat up his daughter because he was drunk " ,is the same kind of sentence.

You cannot argue in the above that it's the daughter that was drunk.

First off, I'm not arguing with you. I'm only trying to share knowledge with you regarding this.
Adverbs and adverbials modify verbs, correct. "Because she was drunk" in that sentence modifies the verb phrase "beats up" but it doesn't in anyway clarify the antecedent of "she".
Also, "A father beat up his daughter because he was drunk " isn't the same kind of sentence because we know the pronoun "he" is clearly masculine and refers to the father and not the daughter here. However, "A father beat up his son because he was drunk" is more like it. It presents us with the case of ambiguity too.

Meanwhile, consider this:
The woman swept the room because it was dirty.

Using your logic on this statement above, you're saying that "Because it was dirty" here modifies the verb "swept" which is, of course, correct. But does the "it" refer to "the woman"? Can you see that your explanation is completely flawed now? That statement by OP is a case of ambiguity. The speaker needs to either reframe the statement or add more information to disambiguate it.

It's the mother who was drunk, not the daughter.

The adverbial clause of reason, "because she was drunk" functions to modify the phrasal verb, "beats up" in the main clause, "A mother beats up her daughter" to tell us the reason for the action of beating up.

"because she was drunk" is modifying the phrasal verb, "beats up", and not describing the daughter as drunk.

If the daughter is the drunk, then the correct sentence will be,

A mother beats up her daughter who was drunk.

No, sir. Semantics doesn't work that way. It's an ambiguous sentence. That is to say that it can mean different things.
While you're very correct about the adverbial clause modifying the verbal phrase "beat up", (even though it was erroneously written as "beats up" ) it still doesn't explain whether it's the mother who was drunk or the daughter. Read up on ambiguity in language.

kings59:
A mother is the subject, her daughter is the object, because = is the emphasis, she was drunk was the reason for the action.

Her daughter was drunk.

He threw the fruit away because it was bad.

Well, while it is a cohesive and coherent sentence, this is a case of ambiguity. Unless the speaker gives further information, it is hard to tell whether it is the mother or the daughter that was drunk.

Which self control? Black women do it but very discreetly. It is very rampant here in Nigeria especially by all these feminists. They even abuse male infants. Sometimes you see ladies carrying the male toddlers of their neighbors and friends buying them biscuits and nutrimilk drink and you will think it's nothing but if you get to see what they do to these boys in the privacy of their rooms, you will stone them!

The reason why we don't catch them is because the anatomy of males is not like females that get bruised when abused sexually.

Jeez, that's crazy.

Wow. Be like na only white women dey sexually abuse male teens sha. This kind news rare for our continent. Wait, does this mean that black women have better self control? grin

It's hard to predict the outcome of this AFCON. If anything, Nigeria has been riding on luck. I can only hope we continue on that lucky streak.

Man, these are hard times in the country. It's so surprising that the youths aren't mustering same energy to protest this hardship like they did during Mohbad's demise. Talk about misplaced priorities.
