Having been to NZL myself and know what the visa looks like, I did not want to break the news to him that the Visa appears fake

It is well! It’s just very sad people still fall for those petty scammers.

My agent just sent mine also and i verified it from this site. Check yours too. Verify here https://nzeta.immigration.govt.nz/check-status

Please note that you can’t enter a plane with NZETA. NZETA is for citizens of countries with visa waiver and Nigeria is not in the list. We’ve complained about this several times. It’s just sad that people still fall victim.

Of course, if someone attempt to verify it, it might show it is a genuine NZETA because they provided some false information to obtain it. It is not a valid visa to travel from Nigeria.

Goodluck!

I have received my unconditional offer today. My school couldn't send my transcript due to the strike actions embarked since February/March. They asked that a lawyer certify my student's copy.. I did, the condition was removed.

Nice one! Congratulations

You can start preparing your travel documents and submit application once NZ borders are open.

Hello everyone
Please i need your opinion. I just got an offer of admission from Lincoln University for a 1year PGD. I have the complete tuition and up to 20,000NZD and fund for my flight tickets....do I still need to have a sponsor to apply for student visa?

And how do i proceed from now to applying for a student visa.

Thank you.

Good to know you have all the required funds. If you have proper evidences of those funds, you may not need a sponsor. NZ borders will open by 1st if August. In the meantime, you could start arranging your documents. Check the link below for more information:

It’s fine! Just make sure you properly declare the gaps in your study.

Can I apply for a undergraduate studies in a New Zealand university with just WAEC?

You can but you need to be able to justify any gap you have in your study years. Like I said, you need to prepare a convincing cover letter and submit appropriate evidences.

Please house,
I am applying for another bsc degree at massey University and UOA. However, i am yet to get a decision from UOA but massey told me to get an Ece of my undergraduate degree done because thats what I use although I graduated with 2.2 in a similar discipline i want to apply to. But it was stated as an international student that i should provide an international baccalaureate ot an A level degree. So should I submit my waec result with is very good except my biology which was cancelled or i should go ahead with my undergraduate degree to stand a higher chance of admission .
Kindly help.

You can apply for another bachelor degree using your WAEC and previous degree. However, you need to make your personal statement is convincing. Let it contain your career goals and the reason you want to spend another 2-3 years for a new bachelor degree in the same field.

Dear House,

I need help on the proof of funds for airline Ticket booking for a PhD Student Visa Application.

Is there anyway to handle this in terms of the amount to keep in the account or how to navigate the process?

I would appreciate all the responses i can get.

Thank you

You may not need to book any flight. If you already have a sponsor, send the INZ1014 Financial Undertaking for a Student (https://www.immigration.govt.nz/documents/forms-and-guides/inz1014.pdf/@@resource_summary) to the person to fill. Then attach the person Bank Statement and Introduction letter from bank with your application. Also, you can include a sponsorship letter from your sponsor.

You’re welcome! You can attach a photocopy of your passport and other documents they require. However, ensure that the document is directly from your university.

Thank you so much. I believe post pandemic factor contributed to the non funding doctoral admission... Thank you so much. But in Naira, what can #5m do for me as it pertains this admission process?

I really cannot say much on this to avoid any discouragement. Let madam @Ticha advise in this regard.

Education.
I applied for the Wellington doctoral and scholarship. But they decided to give me an unfunded admission... What do you think bro!

Well, it depends on your financial background. I know a friend who worked throughout his PhD. However, it is important to note that it’s not easy.

Regarding getting Doctoral funding, I feel it depends solely on God factor, the quality of your application (research publications, previous awards, etc.), and a supervisor willing to support your application. I am recipient of the Wellington Doctoral Scholarship.

The good part about NZ is that PhD students can work pretty well compared to masters students. Also, you have the opportunity to pay your fees at domestic rates. However, there might be a post-pandemic change.

You apply for the visa online then send your passport to South Africa for verification.

Thanks again, @Hills2012. It's Chemical Engineering and I'm looking at research in bioenergy or material science. Based on my budget, I will be able to do something about the tuition if I don't get funded and the other options that I'm exploring fails to work out. That's while I was wanting information on current realities on ground if I can survive on student jobs.

Ohh! Cool...the ogas in the house will be able to guide you better as regards the living expenses and survival tips. Mr. Femi or Mr. Ugosams can advise you better on this.

Thanks for the the reply. Among the schools I reached out to, only one Prof. accepted to be my supervisor, but he told me he doesn't have funding. I have IELTS 7.5 aggregate with none below 7, but it's general module. I have 3 journal publications, only one is topnotch. I just finished preparing my proposal in such area and working currently on personal statements. I've also volunteered for core lab experience in two areas. I hope to see if I can get university-wide doctoral scholarship as I am not getting good reception.

I found out that I will be entitled to resident tuition which is under N2m. I am weighing my option should I fail to get funding. I've even started shopping for funded masters, too.

That’s good! You’ve got a nice profile, I’ll suggest you write the academic IELTS because most schools won’t accept General module. University based doctoral scholarship would be your best bet. However, the school fee for PhD is cheap in NZ because the government subsidized it which allows international students to pay the same fee local students pays.

In your budget, try to make allowance for 15,000 NZ dollars proof of funds for living expenses, proof of funds for inbound and outbound (over 1m naira for flight - one way (based on current rate for Qatar airways)), and the main school fee.

What’s your course of study?

Hello, honourable members of this thread. I have a supervisor that is interested in me joining his in research group but he has no funding. He said any time I'm ready to submit my application, I should let him know so that he can put in words for me. However, he suggested if I'm not having a scholarship he wouldn't advise me to go ahead. If a prospective PhD student is able to afford PhD tuition, how easy is it to get a job that can take care of living expenses in New Zealand?

I will suggest you package your PhD application well in such a way that you’ll maintain competitive advantage to get a scholarship. I assume you have a masters degree already. Here are few highlights of the things you could do:

1. Try to have publications in highly ranked journals.

2. Have good score in IELTS, make sure no band is below 7.0.

3. Volunteer in any research center to gain research experience.

4. Write a good personal statement.

5. Prepare a quality research proposal in emerging research areas that aligns with the department goals.

You’re lucky to have a supervisor that is interested in you.

All the best!

I love your motivation! Trust me it’s achievable.

First of all, do your masters in a reputable Nigerian university. You can consider Unilag or University of Ibadan. During your masters degree, ensure you graduate with a good grade and also publish papers in quality journals.

After completing your masters, start looking for scholarships abroad for your PhD. It won’t be a smooth ride but there are better days.

Don’t look down on yourself. Chase your dreams!

Look beyond the four walls of Nigeria

Hello Guys, my grant just came in today!!!!
Thanks to everyone who has contributed on this thread one way or the other on this thread. It has helped immensely.
My time line:
Submitted application-31st July 2019
Conditional offer- 15th July 2019
CoE- 24th November 2019
Biometrics- 27th December 2019
Submitted Visa Application- 25th January 2020
IELTS Score- 7.0 (I had a minimum band score of 7.0 so my average was 7.0). I got a waiver from the school so I didn't need IELTS for school admission. My agent advised I write one for visa so I did.
School- Flinders University
Sponsor's account: My maternal uncle. Submitted 2 bank statements. One had 18m and the other was a fixed deposit account that matures every 30days. It had 13m.
Course- Social work (masters)
BSc- Microbiology
Agent: PFL
Submitted my credentials, letter from sponsor, proof of relationship to sponsor (uncle & Mum's NPC) and sponsor's account statement. I didn't submit payslips or my account statement sha.
Challenges faced: I already had an MSc in Microbiology so applying for a second masters was what I had to prove. Plus, with Social Work being a high risk course I had to write a convincing SOP. (I can share that with anyone interested cos mehn this took me like a month to write). My work experience was also a bonus cos I work as a care assistant.
Sometime in December the bank statement I used for the school admission could no longer be used cos he had to move the funds to another bank for investment reasons. He had to submit another letter to this effect. He also had to back it up with the fixed deposit account.
School resumes on Monday so if anyone could help with flight and accommodation links, I'd be most grateful.

Thank God!!!!!!!

Congratulations! I’m so happy for you

Hi everyone.
I am a Industrial Chemistry graduate with a 2.1 degree. I would like to ask what I should regarding a masters in Aussie. My major problem is fund, I am from a poor family, the little fund I am projecting to get will be gotten from my NYSC which will start next month.

I would like to know my scholarship chances and how I can just beat cost, chances of PR and the course you would advise I should choose for masters?

I love your ambition and it’s achievable! Your background shouldn’t affect your aspirations in life. What’s your CGPA?

Try to do the following during your NYSC:

1. Write GRE and IELTS during your NYSC.

2. Build your research skills by writing research papers and publish them in a good Journal.

3. Develop a viable research proposal.

4. Get your transcript and certificates.

5. Get your international passport.

6. Try to participate in one or two community service.

For Australia, you could get research scholarship for masters then you move onward to PhD. Kindly note that it’s difficult to get full scholarship for coursework masters but it’s very possible with research scholarships.

As advised earlier, try to be on look out for Commonwealth scholarships and Chevening.

Lemme elaborate more on research scholarships. You’ll need to check the school department web page for lecturers that have interest in your proposed research.

In preparing the proposal, you need to do an extensive literature review and identify a gap you want to work on.

Organize the proposal according to the following headings as it would help your prospective supervisor understand your work:

• the background

• study problem,

• an overview of the literature on the topic,

• the gap in knowledge,

• research question,

• the specific objectives,

• study methodology and theories to underpin the study

• potential contribution to knowledge and practice and the Significance of the study.

In terms of schools, you can consider the following schools because they have lot of research based scholarships:

RMIT
QUT
Unimelb
Others

Lastly, don’t limit yourself to Australia alone, check other countries like New Zealand, Ireland, UK, etc.

I wish you the very best.
