Nairaland GeneralRe: I Hate Birthdays by hipcaramel(f): 11:32pm On Nov 17, 2005
we are all meant to celebrate every waking moment and day of our lives, thanking God for keeping us thus far. i dont think it's bad/wrong to celebrate your birthday because it's the day u were brought into the world. you dont have to have a big party if you dont want to, it's your choice.
Ka:
I hate birthdays.

Hold on, hold on - let me clarify that. I don't hate other people celebrating their birthdays. I think it's a thing of joy that in this world where there is so much pain and suffering, people can take time out to dedicate at least one day of the year to par-tay.

What I mean is that I hate other people expecting me to celebrate my birthday like they do.

Of course, it wasn't always this way. When I was younger, I (like any normal kid) used to look forward to my birthday with much anticipation, eagerly expecting the cakes, drinks and other confectionery that was served during the celebration.

I think the link was broken when I went off to boarding school to do my secondary school education and had to stop (because my birthday fell well within term time). Of course, by the time I finished secondary school, birthdays were no longer a star attraction for me, and this indifference towards my birthday morphed into antipathy towards it during my university years. These days, I just look back and wonder what the whole point is.

I mean, if you really look at it, the things worth celebrating are the things that you've achieved. You celebrate them because the events remind you of a time of happiness... or a time of triumph over adversity... or they mark a stage in your life which shows you are progessing on your way to becoming an independent, well adjusted person in society.

So there are loads of events that I can certainly see worth celebrating because they fill you with happiness when you remember them...

...like passing your secondary school exams with flying colours...

...or getting your first job...

...or driving your first car...

...or your first meeting with the love of your life...

...or moving out to live on your own...

...or starting a website that has over six thousand registered members smiley ...

...but for the life of me, I have no memory of anything on the day I was born! In fact, if anything, my mother should be celebrating it, not me - because not only did she have to put up with nine months of pregnancy, she also endured several hours of very painful childbirth! All (I am told) I did on that day was to yell in anger at being expelled from my warm and comfortable abode. And that's not something, in my opinion, that is worthy of any sort of celebration.

So the whole may carry on celebrating birthdays, but please leave me out of it. The next time I'm asked when my birthday is, I will say "31st of November". Or I might say "I consider that my life started the day I was conceived, but I have no idea exactly what day that was."
i agree with you that there are loads of events worth celebrating but just think if werent born, you wouldnt have any events to celebrate. just as people rejoiced on the day u were born, u should also rejoice as that day comes by each year.
TV/MoviesRe: Saint Obi: Loving His Return! by hipcaramel(f): 10:09pm On Nov 17, 2005
my favourite Saint Obi movie is 'when the going gets tough'. He's good but as for being hot, adorable or any other form of physical attractiveness, I don't think so.

FashionRe: Would You Risk Plastic Surgery to Improve Your Looks? by hipcaramel(f): 8:06pm On Oct 28, 2005
at a point i so wanted to have surgery to reduce something but i really dont think i can do it. the mere sight of a needle makes me weak all over. i just cant do it. i've come to accept myself the way i am, flaws and all. God made me this way for a purpose. moreso, what's the guarantee that when i get 1 surgery done, i wont find yet another flaw and want that corrected as well. or worse, what if they make a mistake and its worse than before, or there's a leak or rupture or disfiguration (i watch these reality shows and they're quite scary). i dont think i can live with that at all.
Music/RadioRe: Ever Met A Popular Music Artist? by hipcaramel(f): 7:49pm On Oct 28, 2005
plantashion boys came to my school when they were still together. It was a bad site. Guys were beefing them because all the girls were screaming "i love you". These are girls they've been chiking for how long., and then some popular guys come and steal the show without even spending a dime on the chics (guys you know how it is and ladies, can we really help it?).

Stly-plus also came. Tunde took it upon himself to dish out hugs to all and sundry. Really cool sha. Faze came just before i left and i must say the camera does favour some people. He is so not what he looks like on TV. I personally do not like his looks at all. He just doesnt do it for me at all.

i've seen samsong, gave him a ride in my car when he came to perform in my school. he's cool, has good carriage and all. maybe it's just me, but i kind of see him as a proud person. i could be wrong sha. i've seen a few others. some expect you to drool over them. that just doesnt do it for me at all.
Music/RadioRe: Eedris Abdukareem or Ruggedman: Who Would You Prefer? by hipcaramel(f): 7:30pm On Oct 28, 2005
dis is so easy. eedris got served the minute ruggedman came on the scene. he's cute and delivers titely. but i agree with layi, there are some guys better than rugged (datrybes are really good. ya'll should get their music and listen). however since this is between eedris and rugged, rugged takes the crown on all fronts.

Christianity EtcRe: Are Christians in Conflict or Does the Bible Contradict Itself? by hipcaramel(f): 7:11pm On Oct 24, 2005
@ layi. u're too much. if more of us read/researched as much as u do, things would be alot better in our world (esp in our continent & country).

@ hndholderand everyone else. the bible is plain and simple. it is us human beings that twist and turn it all around to suit our selfish desires. like thinking homosexuality or premarital sex are okay in God's eyes. THEY"RE NOT!! those are just examples. there are plenty of other issues involved.

God has given all of us free will and He doesnt mess with that. if u choose to disobey His Word or twist it around to suit your selfishness, He's not going to send a thunder bolt down from Heaven to hit you and tell you what you're doing is wrong. if He did that, all of us would go to Heaven; i'm not even sure there would even be a hell to begin with, thus no eviction from the garden of eden and the rest is history. He'll let you decide on your own what is wrong and what is right. He just doesnt mess with free will.

Music/RadioRe: Abuja Radio Stations: 98.3 Hot FM vs. 96.9 Cool FM? by hipcaramel(f): 8:07pm On Oct 14, 2005
96.9 Coolfm is the best in the nation, no doubt. they have the best jingles, best presenters, they play the best songs, everything they do is the best. every other station comes second. i listen to no other station but the Cool Station. my best presenter here in Abuja is Rimini (although she's left the country now), followed by Nike but overall my favourite presenter is Olisa. he just has a way of presenting with ease and he really knows what he's talking about. i like a presenter who can not only present music and other stuff but can also tell me a little about what i'm listening to. all the other stations just play music and are completely clueless as to what the music or musician is all about. Lakeside is also alot of fun. i LOVE!! his craziness and wackiness.

i normally don't like listening to the news but Coolfm has a chasis way of presenting it to people that i actually look forward to listening to the news.
RomanceRe: Why Young Women Often Date Older Men by hipcaramel(f): 12:16pm On Oct 14, 2005
i think it all depends on how mature the girl is. i've got a friend that was dating a guy that was 33. she's younger than me but more mature than me. she obviously couldnt go with a guy that was in her age bracket. a lady that's 19 is older than a guy that's also 19 by 2 years(that's just how it is). now imagine this lady that's 19 and is even more mature than i am(and i'm older than she is), what kinda guy do u think she would go for. definately not a guy that's in her age bracket. she'll wear him out and vice versa. u dig?!!
FamilyRe: When You Can't Have Your Husband's Child by hipcaramel(f): 3:40pm On Oct 11, 2005
this is a tough one!!! there's really nothing God cannot do. remember Sarah in the Bible? she actually gave up at a point and asked Abraham to sleep with Hagar, thus resulting in Ishmael but that wasnt God's will for her. God still gave her her own baby, Issac. you could consider adoption; it's always good to love and help children that have no one there for then. still hang tough to God, dont give up and dont give in. it's never too late for a miracle.
FamilyRe: My Brother's Wife Wants to Sleep With Me by hipcaramel(f): 3:11pm On Oct 11, 2005
i totally agree with Layi. dont do it, please. u're not sure of getting the money even after u've done it and if u dont get it what would u have gained. ask yourself WWJD(what would Jesus do)? He too was tempted by the devil to turn stones onto bread(He had just completed a fast and was very hungry). He didnt give in; instead He overcame the temptation with the Scripture and after everything, angels came and attended to Him. Hold on to God. He sees your heart and knows your need(s). u will overcome and He will send an angel/angels to attend to your every need(s). be strong.
Music/RadioRe: Musical Instruments You Play by hipcaramel(f): 11:46pm On Oct 10, 2005
i play the konga but i'm seriously planning on learning how to play the violin. i've always loved it. it's just a beautiful instrument and it's music is sensational.
RomanceRe: What if Your Boyfriend Beats You A Lot? by hipcaramel(f): 10:07am On Oct 06, 2005
girlfriend, u need to get out of that relationship fast. i saw this story on Oprah and it was all over the news in the U.S. this woman was in an abusive relationship and it was really bad. her mum came to stay with her for a while (she and her boyfriend were living together) and then one day he got really angry with her and took a gun and shot her point blank in the face. he then turned around and killed her mum cos she was the only living witness. he thought his girlfriend was dead but someone came in and helped her and now she's alive but her face is nothing to write home about. it's really horrible. she lost her mother and her face all because she refused to wise up and leave that mo'fo as soon as he hit her the 1st time.

there is no excuse for a man hitting a woman. it's just WRONG and no one should tolerate it for even a minute. LEAVE HIM BEFORE THINGS GET OUT OF HAND!!!!!!

hey people, what's good? Let's support our boy - 2face.

I don't know how many of you know this but our boy - 2face Idibia - has been nominated for an MTV Europe Award in the category of Best African Act. (he did us proud by bringing home 2 awards at the african awards - best male and best male west african).

You can vote for him at ema.mtvbaseafrica.com

Support him because I believe in him and I feel he deserves to win (he's actually better than all the others in his category).

Nairaland GeneralRe: What makes a "big boy" or "big girl"? by hipcaramel(f): 2:56pm On Oct 05, 2005
there's one person (amongst many) i admire as being a big boy and that's Pat Utomi smiley. now if u want to know what it takes to be a big boy/girl or what makes a big boy/girl, look at this man. he seems like a responsible, God fearing man that really wants to make a difference in his community and he's doing just that. now he's just 1 of the many real big boys in Nigeria. the fake wannabe big boys are those doing all the illegal stuff and pushing themselves into our faces on the covers of magazines and on tv. they throw the most lavish and wasteful parties and go from 1 scandal to another just to draw attention to themselves. the real big boys dont make noise; they dont go around looking for publicity to be noticed, publicity comes to them cos, no matter how hard u try, u just cant ignore a good thing.

HealthRe: Cosmetic [Plastic] Surgery is So Bad? by hipcaramel(f): 10:57pm On Sep 19, 2005
i'm not a fan of plastic/cosmetic surgery but when u do it for the right reasons, i'm not against that. take Latifah for instance; she had surgery to reduce her breasts cos she was having back problems and all that. i totally identify with her; it can get real painful sometimes and if i had money like her, i would have the surgery myself.
RomanceRe: When is it OK to Cheat on your Partner? by hipcaramel(f): 2:59pm On Sep 19, 2005
it's never ok to cheat on your partner. if u're no longer interested, just say so and end it instead of doing something so nasty.
CareerRe: What Do You Really Love to Do? by hipcaramel(f): 12:33pm On Sep 19, 2005
dance is my passion. i love dancing and i do it anywhere and everywhere. i feel fulfilled everytime i dance. whenever i'm down, i either dance or watch a dance video. obviously there can be no dance without good music, which also happens to be my other passion. music has been there for me through good and bad. these 2 things are my passions.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Ranked 2nd Poorest Nation in the World by hipcaramel(op): 4:41pm On Sep 18, 2005
the ranking was done by the World Bank and you're right, Layi. per capita income is used in ranking countries and, unfortunately, we didnt quite cut it. it's so sad and annoying. as for gas flaring, instead of us to use it to our advantage by generating electricity with d gas, and in the process help NEPA with it's inadequacies, we flare and destroy our environment. all these are as a result of the level of corruption in this country (by the way, Nigeria is also the most corrupt nation in the world) and all the government ever talks about is anti-corruption! it's as if the more they talk about it, the worse it gets. maybe they should stop talking about it and lets see what happens. TALK IS CHEAP!!
