Twitter sets IPO price at $26 a share By Julianne Pepitone @julpepitone November 6, 2013: 7:25 PM ET Email Print From 140 characters to $13 Billion http://money.cnn.com/video/technology/2013/11/05/t-evolution-of-twitter.cnnmoney/ NEW YORK (CNNMoney) Twitter priced its initial public offering at $26 a share late Wednesday, a move that clears the way for the stock to start trading Thursday. Twitter ended up pricing its IPO above the range of $23-$25 a share that the company set earlier this week -- which was already an increase from the initial $17-$20 range. The announcement came via -- what else? -- a company tweet. The $26 IPO price values Twitter (TWTR) at $14.2 billion. The company intends to raise $1.8 billion by selling 70 million shares in the public offering. But if you're a regular ol' investor looking to buy a piece of Twitter, don't get too excited about that IPO price. The $26 rate is what the Twitter IPO's underwriters -- including lead banker Goldman Sachs (GS, Fortune 500) -- will use when selling shares to their clients. Those customers are mostly large institutional investors, such as mutual funds and hedge funds. Shares will be released Wednesday night to those buyers, and the underwriters have the option to buy another 10.5 million shares from Twitter. Regular investors will get their first shot at Twitter on Thursday morning, when the company will begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker "TWTR." Twitter executives will ring the opening bell to mark the start of the trading day on the NYSE. Although it's not clear just how high the stock will go on its first day, it's possible that shares will surge well above the offering price. So individual investors should be careful when looking to buy Twitter. While the stock market opens at 9:30 a.m. ET, Twitter's shares likely won't start trading right away. It typically takes time -- sometimes an hour or more -- for newly listed shares to begin actively trading on the day of their public debut. But the hope is that Twitter's debut will be smoother than Facebook's was on the Nasdaq last year. Related story: Main Street may avoid Twitter IPO. So? How Twitter makes money: Like many of the newly public Internet companies, namely Facebook (FB, Fortune 500), Twitter's business model revolves around ads. Twitter runs ads for corporate accounts, specific tweets and topics, and the sponsored content is tucked right into users' feeds. Search for AT&T (T, Fortune 500) on Twitter, and a "promoted tweet" from Verizon may pop up. A "who to follow" box suggests a promoted corporate account like Macy's (M, Fortune 500) in the top slot. Advertisers can also place "trends" -- like the name of an album going on sale -- in the list of topics that are popular worldwide or in a specific city. But Twitter isn't yet profitable. The company pulled in $317 million in sales in 2012, but ended up reporting a loss of $79.4 million. For the first nine months of 2013, Twitter's revenue came in at $422 million. But losses also increased, to $134 million. Who's getting rich off Twitter: Twitter insiders aren't selling shares in the IPO, but the stakes they're holding onto are extremely valuable. |

Nigeria time is 4pm The CEO of NYSE Euronext Inc. (NYX) told CNBC News Thursday morning that the NYSE has done everything it can to provide a smooth initial public offering (IPO) for Twitter Inc. (TWTR). Trading in the company's shares is likely to begin at 10:00 a.m. or 10:15 a.m. ET, according to Duncan Niederauer, the exchange's CEO. Whether Twitter chose to list on the NYSE rather than with the Nasdaq OMX Group Inc. (NDAQ) because of the disastrous Nasdaq IPO of Facebook Inc. (FB) is not a question that Twitter's CEO has been willing to answer directly, saying only that the choice of the NYSE drew on the experiences of many Silicon Valley companies and industry best practices. Whatever. Twitter is offering 70 million shares at $26 a share, above the expected range of $23 to $25. The underwriters have an option on another 10.5 million shares, and those are very likely to go today as well. A report in USA Today said that the IPO is between 10 and 30 times oversubscribed. That could stress the NYSE's capabilities. The company is expected to raise up to $1.8 billion, less than 20% the amount Facebook raised at its IPO. That should help ease some of the stress. In any event, we only have a few more hours to wait to see how it all turns out. We have noted that some analysts have already initiated coverage on Twitter stock and set price targets as high as the mid-$40 per share range... Daily Manna: He Alone Can! Thursday 07, November 2013 TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 2:1-11 KEY VERSE: “The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’S, and he hath set the world upon them” (1 Samuel 2:7, .A group of Christians was out on evangelism in the city of Benin, Edo state, Nigeria. As they moved from house to house preaching the gospel of Christ, they got to a particular family that was given to idol worship. The family had daily prayed and made sacrifices to the family idol which was kept somewhere in the compound. In that compound was a child who was crippled from birth. When the team got to the house, they met the mother of the house and presented the gospel to her. As she laid claim to her religion and god, the leader of the team challenged her with the power of Christ to heal her lame child. He said they would pray and the child would be healed but she must agree to give her life to Jesus and abandon the idol. She agreed. The group prayed and instantly, the crippled child got up and walked! As a result, the whole family gave their lives to Christ and destroyed the dumb idol. Many look up to helpless gods for help and fail to realise that whatever help and miracle they need can only come from God through Jesus. Hannah, for many years, had battled with the pain and reproach of barrenness but it became a thing of the past through prayer. The passage for our meditation is her prayer of thanksgiving and praise to God who is mighty, sovereign and powerful. He is reliable and unfailing. Instead of plunging into more problems leading to greater frustration and despair, you can find solution to whatever challenge you are facing if you trust Him. God is our refuge and strength always. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: It only takes trust in God and courage to overcome the challenges of life. ***Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Daily Manna: Salvation For All Wednesday 06, November 2013 TEXT: JOHN 4:1-26 KEY VERSE: “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:14). Salvation is a free gift of God to all. It has to do with a conscious and complete turning away from evil, disobedience and all sinful practices to receive forgiveness and pardon from God. Genuine salvation from sin is only possible and available to those who sincerely repent and exercise faith in Christ’s atonement. The passage today is a dramatic change that occurred in the life of the Samaritan woman. Traditionally, the Jews and Gentiles had no dealings with each other because of racial and religious discrimination. Jesus had no reason to live by such racial and cultural restrictions. He therefore gave the Samaritan woman a chance to hear a message that changed her life completely. Salvation is a free gift of God for all. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2: . The wages of sin is so heavy and the price too high for anyone to pay. Many people reckon themselves to be Christians who had no record of genuine salvation, and their names not in the book of life. Keeping the ceremonial laws, moral living, religious observances, and good works cannot secure salvation for everyone. We are saved not because of what we can do but because of what Christ has done.Christ paid the price for full and free salvation. The provision has been made available; you can come now to receive God’s free gift which is made available for all. Religion saves no one. It is total repentance from sin and faith in Christ’s substitutionary atonement that brings true and enduring salvation. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Salvation is generously and freely provided by God for all. ***Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Don't forget to SHARE! |
Daily Manna: Praise That Enthralls Tuesday 05, November 2013 TEXT: PSALM 147:1-20 KEY VERSE: “Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely” (Psalm 147:1). There is a direct relationship between enthralling praise and supernatural intervention. The Bible is replete with such proven examples. Jehoshaphat praised the Lord and the confederacy of enemies against Judah scattered. The Lord Jesus Christ thanked God at Lazarus’ grave and the dead man came back to life. Paul and Silas sang praises too. To those who praise the Lord from truly transformed hearts, God often responds with immediacy. Real praise brings the power of God to bear in our world. David didn’t praise God just because it caught his fancy. His praise was borne out of an intimate relationship with God, a keen awareness of His majesty and a tacit acknowledgement of His great deeds. He acknowledged God as great in power and understanding. He blessed the Lord for sending forth His commandment upon the earth. Praises ignite God’s power. Accepted praise cannot be acted out. It is a voluntary acknowledgement of the wholesome nature of the Almighty that is worthy of infinite adulation. Acceptable praise needs be sincere, relational and enthralling. Do you find it difficult sustaining your praises and thanksgiving before the Lord? Then ask the Lord for a walk in the spirit that compels an instinctive praise and thanksgiving even in the face of stiff challenges. From today, give praise a prominent place in your prayer. Let your praise outstrip narrow supplications and self serving prayer schedule. You will surely discover the awesome power that moves mountains. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Real praise has the capacity to open doors and confound adversaries. ***Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Don't forget to SHARE! |

Daily Manna: Avoid That Trap! Monday 04, November 2013 TEXT: LUKE 4:1-15 KEY VERSE: “And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God” (Luke 4:4). Hunters who set traps for animals do so not because of their love and care for those animals but to catch them and possibly kill them. They do it to entice and destroy them. Baits are put in traps to entice and kill their victims. Satan uses different kinds of attractions to distract people and ensnare them. Jesus says, “the thief cometh not but for to steal, and to kill and to destroy…” (John 10:10). The devil tried to make Jesus Christ satisfy His hunger in an ungodly and illegitimate way but He wisely said that man shall not live by bread alone; but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Satan also demanded worship from Christ and to use His power for vain glory, but Christ defeated him by the word of God. Happily, the Saviour overcame the temptations of the devil. Temptation is a common experience of every one since the fall in the Garden of Eden. It is an enticement to do evil and sin against God. Circumstances of life are generally the means the devil uses to gain an inroad into every heart. Many of our desires may be normal and good; yet, God wants us to satisfy them in the right and legitimate way. Every situation has the potential for possible temptation from Satan. Believers must be careful and watchful not to fall into temptation. Christ overcame and lived a holy life, so we can. An attempt to fulfil legitimate desires outside of God’s will is a manipulation of the devil to sin against God. To avoid his trap, we must constantly cross-check all suggestions and align them with the word of God. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Prayerfulness and watchfulness give the victory. ***Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Don't forget to SHARE! |
Daily Manna: Not An Easy Road Saturday 02, November 2013 TEXT: LUKE 9:52-62 KEY VERSE: “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62). The path of least resistance easily appeals to most people. Very few will dare plod the rigorous avenue laden with thorns and thistles. Even so, adherents to strict, altruistic convictions are not easy to come by. The above statements capture the experience of the Lord Jesus Christ as He charted the daunting course to Jerusalem. There He paid the supreme price for man’s sin. He had set His face like a flint on this journey and nothing, not even the agony of death, could alter this course. As He proceeded, there emerged different responses from His disciples and others. James and John, for instance, wanted the destruction of a Samaritan village for daring to refuse the Lord a passage through their territory. An acquaintance wanted to follow the Lord without a thorough knowledge of its implications. Another wanted to bury the dead before becoming a real disciple. Yet, another requested a ceremonial goodbye before accepting the call to follow Him. Evidently, these men did not comprehend the demands of discipleship. To them, following Jesus was conditional. Yet, the believer’s call to discipleship is incomparably greater than personal convenience and comfort. Frankly, it is a call to cross-bearing, self denial, pain, suffering and ultimately justification and glorification. It is not a call that is answered on personal whims. Christ’s call to follow Him requires unswerving convictions and focused commitment. We cannot burden ourselves with doubtful convictions and attachments of this life and still hope to journey acceptably with Him. It is only those who gratefully accept the call to follow the Lord all the way, the odds notwithstanding, who will eventually receive His crown and enjoy His eternal fellowship. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: A disciple is a follower who has forsaken all. ***Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Don't forget to SHARE! |

Daily Manna: Be Courageous! Friday 01, November 2013 TEXT: JOSHUA 1:1-9 KEY VERSE: “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest” (Joshua 1:9). Courage is a contagious virtue, but discouragement and despair are strong weapons in the hand of Satan to destabilise and derail a seemingly mighty strategist. Many mighty men have lost the battles of life in moments of discouragement and despair. So, add to your faith courage to have good success. Joshua was a brilliant military strategist, a warrior and a special assistant to Moses before the latter died. God told him to take over the leadership of Israel to lead them to the Promised Land. He repeatedly encouraged Joshua to be strong and of good courage. Change is a natural occurrence in life. Times of difficulty, depression and dire needs often come and go. These periods of crises and challenges are not strange to men and women of God in every generation. Standing on the promises of God courageously is the only panacea when believers are faced with illness, fear, discouragement, disappointment and seemingly overwhelming tasks and circumstances of life. The exit of one person does not necessarily close the chapter of God’s promises for His own people. Moses’ death was a great blow to Joshua and the nation of Israel. Joshua needed courage to move ahead and fulfil God’s instruction for his life because he was afraid to lead a rebellious nation like Israel. Courage is the bedrock of success or achievement in life. Only those with persistence, faith and courage can obey divine commands when the task seems impossible. Attitude of dependence on God moves Him to pour His grace upon us and we are empowered to achieve great things. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Courage is like a propeller that moves the engine. ***Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Don't forget to SHARE! |

Sao Paulo, Brazil (CNN) -- João Rodrigo Silva Santos didn't come home Monday night. When the former professional footballer's wife opened the door on her way to work the next morning, she found his severed head on their front step. The head was inside a backpack, police said. Santos' eyes and tongue had been gouged out, according to Brazilian media reports. Player stabbed, referee dismembered over soccer quarrel in Brazil Now police in Rio de Janeiro are investigating the grisly killing, though they haven't said who they believe is behind it. Santos, 35, was a forward for a number of mostly second-tier Rio de Janeiro football teams before retiring and opening a health foods store. His death comes at a time when football fans worldwide are shifting their focus toward Brazil, which will host the World Cup in 2014. Late last year, the country announced it was pumping $900 million dollars into its security budget to make the competition "one of the most protected sports events in history." World football's ruling body FIFA had expressed concern about Brazil's increasing crime rate, particularly in Sao Paulo. One police official told Brazil's O Globo newspaper that authorities are investigating whether a recent post on the store's Facebook page could be connected to the crime. The post showed surveillance footage and asked for help catching shoplifters. Police plan to compare the images to surveillance footage taken at the shop Monday night, chief homicide investigator Rafael Rangel told the newspaper. The former football player was last seen Monday night, when two suspects entered his vehicle, CNN affiliate TV Record reported. On Wednesday morning, police said they found parts of a man's body in a river outside the city and were testing the DNA to see whether the remains belong to Santos, TV Record said. Authorities have interviewed 10 witnesses so far in the case, police said. According to local media, Santos' wife, Geisa Silva, worked for the police in one of Rio's shantytowns, but as a social worker giving swimming lessons to children, not as a policewoman. She told investigators she did not know of any threats made against her husband, according to TV Record. Some of Santos' relatives and neighbors told O Globo that he didn't have any enemies and said they didn't know what could have motivated the attack. Brazil boosts World Cup security budget as crime rises Santos started his football career when he was 16 years old, and played for several Brazilian club teams. He played for the Bangu club team from 1996 to 2005, according to a biography on the club's unofficial website. In 1998, he played for Honduras' Olimpia club. And in 2003 he played for Sweden's Oster club, the website says. The website calls Santos a "humble hero," describing how goals he scored brought victory to another club team he joined. According to the FutRio.net football news site, Santos left the field earlier this year to focus on his business. The site reported that club players in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday honored Santos with a minute of silence. |

Daily Manna: Imminent Judgment Thursday 31, October 2013 TEXT: ISAIAH 23:1-18 KEY VERSE: “The LORD of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth” (Isaiah 23:9). A Boston shoplifter was caught in a peculiar way. He had stolen a hat in a department store and ran with it to the escalators; but instead of boarding the one going down, in his haste, he took the ascending stairway. He tried hard to run down, but was confronted by the ascending passengers while all the time the steps were rising. Finally, in spite of his frantic efforts, he was borne back to the head of the stairs again, where he found a policeman waiting for him. This is the picture of the difficult ways of sinners. The Bible declares the ways of sinners as hard. Noah preached to the antediluvian people to come into the ark for salvation but they thought they were smart and wise - animals replaced them in the ark. Lot preached to the citizens of Sodom and Gomorrah before the rain of God’s fire came down. But, Lot was like a comedian to the homosexuals there. God mandated Isaiah in this passage to preach to Israel and all her neighbouring countries to repent before Nebuchadnezzar, His “Whip”, was sent to deal with them. They all disregarded the warning of Isaiah. The rest, as they say, is history. Strangely, sinners are becoming more hardened to the warnings of God. However, if Noah, Lot and Isaiah were faithful to their commission of preaching the goodnews, we cannot be less passionate and enthusiastic about ours. Why not avoid the folly of joining with the multitude to do evil. Instead, align with the few on the strait and narrow way to heaven. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: God’s wrath and indignation surely await the impenitent. |
Daily Manna: Old-Time Christianity Wednesday 30, October 2013 TEXT: ACTS 11:19-30 KEY VERSE: “And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch” (Acts 11:26). When Thomas Aquinas (one of the church reformers) visited Rome and was shown the gorgeousness of the papal palace, the Pope, remarked: “well, Thomas, the church in our day cannot say, “Silver and gold have I none.” “No” replied Aquinas, “neither can she say, “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk”. As the church increases in riches and worldly wisdom, she has correspondingly decreased in spiritual power and piety. The early church is a model: it was built upon unadulterated doctrines and teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. It was a church whose exponential growth was based upon dedication and commitment in the face of unmitigated persecutions of the powers that be, both political and ecclesiastical. Members were agents of its expansion through their evangelism and preaching of the good news. At first, there was no institutional structures like a church to coordinate the activities of these “freelance evangelists.” With the arrival of Barnabas and later Paul, the disciples were moulded into a church, with regular fellowships and teaching of the word. It was no wonder then that the disciples in Antioch were first called Christians, little Jesus Christs! Their character, lifestyle, behavior and activities mirrored the earthly life of Jesus Christ. Today, the growth and piety of Christians are measured on the scale of material acquisition. There is the utmost necessity therefore for all to go back, imbibe and make manifest the old-time faith characterized by repentance from sin, cross-bearing, self-denial and holiness so that we can truly be seen as the salt and light of this dark world. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The old-time religion remains the best for heaven-bound saints. ***Share your thoughts and what you've just learned in the comments section below. Don't forget to SHARE! |
Daily Manna: Exit Of A Heroine Tuesday 29, October 2013 TEXT: GENESIS 23:1-11 KEY VERSE: “And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her” (Genesis 23:2). Two little birds had a nest in the bush in the rear part of a garden. Five year-old Amy found the nest. It had four speckled eggs in it. One day, after she had been away for sometime, she ran into the garden to take a look at the pretty eggs. To her dismay, she found only broken shells. “Oh” she cried, “the beautiful eggs are all spoiled and broken!” “No, Amy,” said her brother, “they are not spoiled. The best part of them have taken wings and flown away.” So it is with death. The body left behind is only an empty shell, while the soul, the better part, has taken wings and flown away. Death is inevitable. It is a leveler for all men: white, black or brown; be they rich or poor, manager or messenger, kings or the subject, the villain or his victim. This reality once dawn on King David who prayerfully intoned: “LORD make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.” Most unregenerate men do not think much of death. They do not realize that life is ephemeral but give their lives fully to the pursuit of happiness, pleasure, and leisure - modern bywords for sin. Sarah was one of the three women mentioned by name among the heroes of faith in the book of Hebrews. She was a model of faith as a faithful wife and mother. She so respected her husband to the extent she called him lord! She lived a worthy life and died. Shakespeare once said, “life is a stage”. All of us are actors and are bound to leave the stage at a point. What will be your legacies here, when you leave the stage? THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Heaven is sure for those who die in righteousness. ***Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Don't forget to SHARE! |
