We all know that first impressions count, in this case, impressing your potential future employer is of the utmost importance. Often, people apply for a position, without updating their CV or giving the process much thought. Mistake! This is (basically) the reason you are still unemployed, friend. You’re your own worst enemy. Follow these 10 points and be sure to get a call-back, and soon... 1. According to bbc.com , potential employers can easily discern between a generic CV and one that comes with great effort. So make sure you constantly edit and update your CV according to the job and department/company you are applying for. 2. Keep your CV concise with just enough of the important information. Keep it to two pages. 3. Always, but always include a cover letter to give potential employers a sense of who you are and how you would fit into their work environment and company culture. Then remember to tailor this letter each and every time you apply for a new job, says The Guardian . 4. Don’t forget the basics: personal contact details, education, qualification, experience and references. Sometimes, it’s all in the details. 5. Every potential employer would prefer a presentable, neat and professional CV according to the National careers service. There are different formats to choose from, but we say simple is always the best. And please, don’t go too colourful. Oh, and don’t ever apply using a selfie as your ID picture. 6. Double check before you press send, eliminate any spelling or grammatical errors. That is the main sign of professionalism. Get. It. Right. 7. The Guardian stresses that one should understand the job description clearly before applying. Clearly present your skills that match the requirements, and fill in the blanks with related and transferrable skills while upholding your honesty and integrity. 8. Include interests that are useful for the job in active language, for example: "I enjoy working in a team/ have excellent leadership skills" - and rather leave out irrelevant hobbies. 9. Make sure you are qualified for the job. Jobs.ac.uk noted that before you send out your CV, you should make sure it matches your interests, qualifications and skills. Otherwise, it’s just a big waste of time for everyone involved. 10. Always keep a compressed copy of your CV says studentbeans.com : some recruiters will ask for a shorter and more summarised version. Therefore, take your most important information and get straight to the point, keeping to one page. |
Gusau - The Zamfara House of Assembly on Friday directed its Ethics and Privileges Committee to investigate the fight between its majority leader and the governor’s chief driver over a woman. This followed a "call to order" letter by the state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Lawali Kaura, and read on the floor of the house under "matters of urgent public importance". The Clerk of the house, Alhaji Isa Bayero, read the letter which urged the lawmakers to investigate the Monday, May 4 brawl to save the state and the party from embarrassment. The Speaker, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji, directed committee to call on all parties involved, including the woman, security agents, eyewitnesses and other relevant bodies. Rikiji warned that any invitee who failed to appear before the committee, headed by the Chief Whip, Alhaji Abdulmumini Isa, would be seen and treated as a law breaker. The committee is expected to submit its report on June 27. The majority leader, Alhaji Salisu Musa (Tsafe North) was involved in an open fight with the governor's chief driver, Idris Garba. The woman operates a restaurant in Gusau. The majority leader had told newsmen that he had "business" with the lady for some time now. Musa said that during the fight, the driver tried to bite off his fingers but for the timely intervention of the police. - NAN |
Night owls are more likely than early risers to develop diabetes and other health problems, even if they get the same amount of sleep. 1 600 people's sleeping habits That's the conclusion of a new study that included more than 1,600 people in South Korea, aged 47 to 59, who provided information about their sleep habits and underwent tests to assess their health. "Regardless of lifestyle, people who stayed up late faced a higher risk of developing health problems like diabetes or reduced muscle mass than those who were early risers," Dr. Nan Hee Kim, of Korea University College of Medicine in Ansan, South Korea, said in a news release from the Endocrine Society. "This could be caused by night owls' tendency to have poorer sleep quality and to engage in unhealthy behaviours like smoking, late-night eating and a sedentary lifestyle," Kim added. Of the 1,600 people in the study, 95 were night owls, 480 were early risers and the remainder fell somewhere in the middle. Night owls have higher levels of body fat Even though they tended to be younger, night owls had higher levels of body fat and fats in the blood than early risers. Night owls were also more likely to have sarcopenia , a condition where the body gradually loses muscle mass, the findings showed. Men who were night owls were more likely to have diabetes or sarcopenia than those who were early risers, the investigators found. Compared to women who were early risers, women who were night owls tended to have more belly fat and a higher risk of metabolic syndrome – a collection of health conditions that increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease and stroke . The study was published online in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. Issue needs to be addressed Considering that many younger people are night owls, the risk associated with this type of sleep habit is "an important health issue that needs to be addressed," Kim said. The study found an association between being a night owl and increased health risks; it did not prove cause-and-effect. - Health24 |
The Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, on Friday reopened the Nigeria Police Intelligence School in Enugu State abandoned a year ago. Arase said that the major thrust of his administration was to enhance intelligence driven-policing. According to him, the intelligence school has been shut for the past one year and once you cannot drive the internal security management through intelligence, then, you will be groping in the dark. "I am here to reopen our intelligence school. It has been something that I have been passionate about in the past two years since I was the head of the intelligence unit. "That has been one of my strategic plans and I am happy that it is now open. The police force cannot operate without intelligence,’’ he said. Arase reiterated his warning against mounting of road blocks in the country by the force, adding that it would henceforth hold Police Commissioners and Area Commanders responsible for violation of the order. Also read: I-G sets up Judges Protection Units He said that he had set up a monitoring squad on illegal road block throughout the federation as part of efforts to eliminate corruption in the force. The police boss said his administration would not tolerate undue detention of suspects in police cells. He, however, urged officers and men to always expedite investigation of cases for quick dispensation of justice and decongestion of cells. On welfare of the police, Arase said it was one of his priorities and promised to improve on it. It is reported that the intelligence school was inaugurated in 2013 by the former Inspector- General, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, but went into comatose after one year. Arase also paid a courtesy call on Gov. Sullivan Chime of Enugu State where he commended the state government for its contributions toward ensuring improved policing in the state. "We know that this is a transition period but we appeal to you to intimate your successor on ways to continue with the assistance to the police in the state. "Socio-economic development cannot take place where there is crisis,’’ he said. In his response, Chime congratulated the Arase on his new appointment. Chime decried the inadequate use of the heliport built by the state government for the Nigerian Police in the state. He said the heliport would ensure adequate security of the state and the entire South-East. The governor promised to continue to partner with the police even after leaving office. "Security is paramount to Enugu State and I am optimistic that the incoming administration will continue to maintain adequate security,’’ Chime said. It is reported that the Inspector-General of Police was accompanied by the Commissioners of Police from Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo. source: m.news24.com/nigeria/National/News/IG-reopens-intelligence-school-in-Enugu-20150508 |

Report has it that Dr Ikechukwu Sam Enemuo was rushed to Good Heart Hospital in Ph after he took ill with symptoms of Ebola. He was said to have operated on a Liberian diplomat who presumably had contact with Mr Sawyer. He Fell ill and died last Friday. He was ill for 3 days...then started vomiting blood with bloody diarrhoea. He was initially rushed to Prime Hospital Ph...where he was rejected and then taken to Good heart whose MD is a Cardiologist ..a consultant physician with UPTH. He died there. Good heart is on EVO road in GRA PH. The Doctor that died practices in East West Road Rumuokoro...Sam Steel clinic. The wife also a Doctor has a 3-month old baby. There may have been well over 200 contacts of this devilish diplomat who lured his young Doctor friend to treat him secretly and went back to Lagos. I hear he has eventually submitted himself for Ebola check in a bid to get a clearance certificate to fly out..he tested positive and is now quarantined in lagos..It's quite a calamity unfolding in Ph. Unfortunately Ph health facilities are not quite ready to contain Ebola at the moment. There are American experts and federal and WHO health workers in town however training Drs and other health workers and helping out with contact tracing etcPlease spread the news to your loved ones staying in ph to avoid the hospitals mentioned. |
