Late Chief Sunday Awoniyi was a proud Northern Yoruba and Christian who, when in 2004, he was popularly elected as the Chairman of the apex Northern socio-cultural group, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), made statements that provoked a lot of thoughts about the North. He characteristically remembered the past with nostalgia, lamented the collapse of values and strongly recommended reorientation towards the restoration of the lost glory. Awoniyi, though a Yoruba and therefore a minority in the North, was always himself who never allowed sentiments or complexes to take any part of him. His rise in the Northern political leadership structure and eventual emergence as the ACF Chairman were clear testimonies that his ethnic and religious backgrounds were never obstacles to him on his way to the top. The late elder was a positive man who never considered ethnicity and religion as tools of discrimination or blackmail and therefore associated with fellow Northerners and other Nigerians ordinarily. It was even this enlightened disposition that generated for him tremendous recognition and respect from across all Northern communities. In public service, politics and other community engagements, Awoniyi had remained a fair-minded, considerate and realistic individual whose views were expressions of a genuine desire for peaceful co-existence among the Northerners in particular and Nigerians in general. His association with the late Premier of the defunct Northern Region, Sir Ahmadu Bello Sardauna of Sokoto, to which he regularly referred just to show the cordial relationship that existed among the Northern political leaders, is still a subject of study for the present politicians. Awoniyi’s pronouncements and attitudes were, in fact, clear lessons and messages for Northern Christians, especially those with the tendency for the deployment of religion as a tool of blackmail. When he said, shortly after he was chosen as the ACF Chairman, that he never saw himself as just a Yoruba and/or a Christian who could suffer discrimination on the basis of those identities, he simply meant that he carried himself along and pursued his careers without any suspicion against anybody or apprehension over the possibility of any form of discrimination against him. In other words, he deliberately conditioned his mind to accept the fundamental fact that there was no design by any community to thwart his plans or spoil his chances and possibility of growth. It was therefore this particular feeling that made him acknowledge the contributions of a lot of people to his own success in the various spheres of life and consequently vowed to pay back in the best way he could. There are really takeaways in the life of Awoniyi for everybody: Northern Christians, Northern Muslims and all other Nigerians. His courage, confidence, patience and trustworthiness were and are still rare assets and therefore worthy of emulation by the diverse communities in the North. Challenges of politics, governance and development are more in the North than in other parts of Nigeria because the examples set by elders like Awoniyi have been largely discarded. What exists now in place of all the tolerance, accommodation and solidarity that were preached and demonstrated by the Awoniyis are suspicion, blackmail and such other negative tendencies that have been the obstacles to peace and development in the North. The issues around the forthcoming 2023 General Elections, especially as they pertain to the Muslim-Muslim formula for the presidential election adopted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) has further exposed the North to the dangers of the manipulation of sentiments. The clear reactions of, for example, the former Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara and the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engineer Babachir David Lawal, both of the All Progressives Congress (APC), are a rebellion against the legacies of the Awoniyis. The two of them are prominent Northern politicians who, as Christians, have chosen to use the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket to whip up religious sentiments that can further aggravate the hostility among Northern communities. By arguing that the selection of the former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, as the Running Mate to the APC Presidential Candidate, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, is a practical expression of a desire to subjugate the entire Northern Christians, they have embarked on a mission that is evidently destructive to the North. Theirs is, of course, an argument that have already been countered in various ways by those whose sensibilities have been injured by the expressions of the two angry politicians. A lot of the reactions are a disapproval of their position which is being widely dismissed as more a manifestation of frustration than a defense of Christians’ interests. It is, after all, not known how Babachir Lawal and Yakubu Dogara can be ambassadors or true defenders of the Northern Christians. It is equally confusing or even unbelievable that the two of them whose main vocation is the pursuit of their political interests have suddenly begun to worry about the collective interests of a religious community in the North. There is a validity in the conclusion that this approach is a politics taken too far, which if not quickly moderated, can wreak havoc on the North. The kind of ideas they are pushing which is indicative of an intention to instigate one Northern religious community against the other should be properly understood for what it is and fully resisted. It must have been absolute insensitivity to the basic concerns of the Northerners that has made the two politicians and their likes to use a decision of a political party or, more precisely, a candidate to fan the embers of disunity and hostility between two dominant religious communities. The result of their machinations will definitely be the escalation of the security challenges that are already a threat to the North and its peoples. These new champions of the Northern Christians’ interests are clearly trying to destroy what elders like Awoniyi built for Christians and other people of the North. Their attitudes are clearly a counter to all the efforts made by the past leaders across all communities in the North towards the construction of a formidable geo-political entity that has a place for its own. They are, therefore, unworthy successors of those highly-respected leaders who toiled hard and finally bequeathed to all Northerners sound legacies. It is the sustenance of all those legacies, not destruction of them, that should be everybody’s business in the North. https://lm.?u=https%3A%2F%2Fleadership.ng%2Fawoniyis-message-for-northern-christians%2F%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR1QWH3xUaIE6EEAMbeFTh0QIlqXt84cF2EaCm1lsBXoMAnzyBWlNzVmfWQ&h=AT3O0xOWoYPUXD9BzN7NOzYjqxqJ-_7eWPU53fIMw5N3pbMG52d0XQJPDPnelTeBzfKpkb4zv-OnWO0k9ztrA7bBsmpb78V-QArIdLf1kTdY0S_qqhCSCKg05DQ65E657Q3gxM_SXMbBifvQRM8szDqsu5njjfsiImt8v0LCh9lI8BLOXxJxdoz6x2hnuP7NZwaJNAJHE4kp_3mvSuE79KwZxMbVe_U3yAXlED4wd99l1-baejc6u2NNq0GGVVY7-vaz3wjs3xilrhU8FdLPzGzuFrpKscb5EzMUTh24EnOJjVWXaxtSoxastBazgTQXrU1DINGjLFO8FAMYq9PTEuLiUWu8h-RSaZaJ59Pd-jsMYeZnUq2aP69nb7ElpNQtI_OKqLmjyLvpIlHVS_WUjFRdyQ-PLW-P3s5rWyqu2fyuErmCjObrd8Pt8hcWUyTwCoOnOFuBX0mcBfGsqsRbmUqHXyT4x0bMS333T0r0hA1scmYebPb4De1J7ieB-m8jTY9r7xiQv89F7QprTF1kJNHAzGjgeo1NynBu1Dc3QjIfkmNS9nf4BSyLMNgPloZvX31FlSkIawH8e19VkPBS2HygNQe4j13YmbtExYlbmzbm6HPhxn_-IVBR4bjaTHW8RB3Gq8v5n_JE8HEAMQbBScwtT1h2byKHriIbnY4-Y-rdjCDWPLX_Lqsa9UOhNalkREqGa5cHBzkCc_YONYZkzJRYiUEXYMvJNKqXDMRAHfuVuS-OYL8QOHnMzVzTxTwSZEWWL5k6Sq80BrmIlDKaI5NMdPc1puLkYXVVSpPR6JXp2ymOMLPbrxtaLZMtvd4cROG7HvQ29rMMWk_GEdum-luc0NA-wzUGQNGVuVCrQc9Omvirq1kCylnluZ5P3hHfSFdH7qCuDoOu7upgxTHkwqyuvOY58hdC5Khhn-gQL6f183LeGA4H49PEZnBrcAUlbmJs9gftT4b4Par9gQuhbKxMl2ieeWXgLMNAA9d2-X_ky8_-W_QfcABMvBRWKm-C5Q7XClAEtNiAduP3253lrpkkR4OxWQGdxCVuR2wyjDFY4Pb8t675eSiwrRs7N2fdnVnDxDsxe8wcSNE11wVUyr5sEsNocxVR5eCnlAmM7wWqE9tCL8kr59tHWqY9dBK5PZB2YE96xbyF5lKlGVfTpT7G-F8kkeyWsZnnxTee1Qa3pZD_TDKJMhxOt31nQ1sfAUXBxD_DTNAAsvB3Cn6K8DZcEMPMj4j9vxVyh-1KSfTS0R4pFsD__YjBg2U-kkMcbKuOtw3fFVCs_HU-iQsxUKY-JZcedQ4KP8_A7gc6wSUTxBgZkP6f15XLxQl8QUqFZsvk5n_jO0s5LgA-45g35Xe0lkPFmiRrm53TSTCkAtlBdnrhkgsOBJTbafJlFN56wTT2pshiGDNWEzggHuCLfcqwXDe8kxKzcOsErXamol2E-RBNl1kVEseBK14jaoxF675O_HQWaR6n4Xel7WXQOs5_NTtrYV6EVlMBg16M7uZ4QVuP7YXNXxp9zbirSakpakWQFdbfa1zOKWt_jNHPawbZwIEsgs3WicC-l2QfmWfxNp6w1Y0w-XGkjPLgrJGj09OKpKF_mtpaDY7sHujYWDoieDDtG5qM3sotLx0-jRcUVep-yDqPGUTs5OBNbU6DrAnqOkBJ09YdmWt5WBAyMjM3uM9ygzcBmrWfki1YjkSOuTrXWM-IGiuA6VKkzGEQehfLpd4Ms7HrHoulfqgjtGwOA5w2elWMuKhho5Iq8TdQ4JAO0K1vh40LZCtdHYQ08eIKP3hDghSkOiw6JYH1dX5Lz6l2GPup_287KjZuvPxcHllGNbDeeafNHH7BNyRDa2HnTFDcehkzeY9zBlj_OpGnePo1lEu8OVcOSoxB3Gr1BUl5dn93yKoaNfh5OFYxprlap_ch6JiY_HRmzkxPCOnIo3CtUq_QqlNlEmB2ZBhMWRqC1j8A1ZAcVGSn0agEZsk7zQckCf5psXzY0g |

PDP PRESIDENTIAL NORTHWEST ZONAL RALLY Let me begin by calling the register as I am watching it live. PDP Chairman Secondus, PDP candidate Atiku, Peter Obi, former President Jonathan and his former Vice Namadi Sambo, Senators Kwankwaso, Saraki, Speaker Dogara, Liyel Imoke, Governor DD Ishaku of Taraba, Kabiru Turaki, Sule Lamido, Walid Jubril, Shema, etc are all in attendance. But mark you, Makarfi and all the Southeast governors are absent. The MC is Dino. At the beginning, when Dino shouted Nigeria, there was mixed response; some shouted "sai Atiku" while some shouted "sai Buhari" as expected. To avoid further embarrassment, they started using trumpet sound whenever Nigeria is shouted to cover the response from the crowd. Kwankwaso ranted as usual. Then Namadi Sambo. Sambo avoided reciting Fatiha, he only pleaded with them to vote PDP. Then Jonathan. GEJ shouted Nigeria and they replied "sai Buhari with a mixed response covered by trumpet sound to reflect "sai Atiku". Dogara also made noise in both English and Hausa, his message was not clear. Like the guy is confused. Then Saraki. Saraki avoided reciting Qulhuwallahu. He spoke also in Hausa and English. Secondus then took over as party chairman. Secondus' speech is full of threats and incitements. He made mention that there will be war if Atiku is not returned winner. God forbid. What a conceding statement! They then handed over flags to their candidates. Obi wore dark glasses to avoid lying to people of Sokoto with open eyes. Atiku then took over. He affirmed that northwest is the capital of PDP that is why they are starting campaigns with Sokoto. There was mixed response when he tried to say Nigeria, of course some shouted 'sai Buhari'. Atiku said his origin is Sokoto, his grandparents were from Sokoto. I hate lying during the day Wallahi. He spoke in fulfulde. Again, Atiku mentioned that he is a farmer, a trader and a rich man. That he has participated in all deals and businesses to become rich (including...?) That also Buhari has only 150 cows but he has more than 1000 cows. Now we know the sponsors of Fulani herdsmen. It is interesting to let you know that I wasted my time trying to comprehend why I should consider Atiku and PDP serious to come back to ruling Nigeria. Non of them spoke about stopping or fighting corruption. They only mentioned hunger. That they will fight hunger they have created. I am tired. PDP secretary is currently speaking. What a waste of time! Never again. Better we move to the NEXT LEVEL. All I saw in that rally was yesterday we prayed and worked hard to escape. |
Where exactly has Buhari lost votes after 2015? Nowhere. The Man waxes stronger and his enemies wail more bitterly. In Anambra, where APC lost to the PDP in 2015, APC defeated PDP in the last election despite the rantings of IPOB. In Ekiti, PDP led APC with about 100k votes in 2014, in 2018, APC cleared the 100k votes and still defeated the PDP with thousands of votes.... PROGRESS. In Rivers, APC has the 3 Senators today, they are winning elections confidently and PDP is jittery. In Akwa Ibom, APC is on rampage just as it is in Delta while Edo remains rocksolid. Famous 2015 Jonathanians like Ken Nnamani, Nwobodo, Uzordimma, Ayogu Eze, Chime, etc are working 24 hours in the SE to win the zone for PMB and frustrate the PDP to accept their grave verdict. Yet, Saraki is losing Kwara, Dino is losing Kogi, Dogara is losing Bauchi, Kwankwaso and Tambuwal are looking helplessly at their end. In Adamawa, only Atiku is in the PDP. Gulak who was Jonathan man in 2015 is with PMB. Same with Ribadu. Aisha is there, the Governor is there, SGFs both current and former are there.... Lol PDP best bet was Osun where APC had a divided House but they still couldn't win, they lost it. Now APC is waxing stronger in Osun. Niger State is no going area. APC is carefully pulling down the remnants of the PDP in their wailing Strongholds but their blind offsprings on social media are not aware, they have willingly opted to die of avoidable shock in FeBuhari.

TAMBUWAL'S DEFECTION Unlike Saraki, who has been playing PDP card from the beginning until Oshiomhole kicked him out with style, or Kwankwaso, who sees no future to actualise his dream or even retain his seat. Though both are so desperate and ambitious to sacrifice everything, including their dignity to achieve what they aim. Tambuwal on the other hand has been confidant and a close friend of this government. He has been seen dining with, or delivering speeches in favour of APC and PMB's government, until things fell apart. I have seen a lot of people wondering what and why Tambuwal is looking for that he is decamping. The answers are too frivolous to notice, except for those of us that keep constance in studying and archiving happenings in the political space of Nigeria. But we can all recall that President Buhari was once very sick, that he spent months at UK hospital battling for his health and survival. While most of us were disturbed and prayerful for President's health and recuperation, Tambuwal was busy praying for the President's death and at the same time vying, lobbying and working ways to deputize Osinbajo as Vice President. His moves were captured, recorded and documented, which were transmitted to the President. Wonders as the President heard about that. PMB couldn't keep mum, he spewed it at an occasion in the presidency that "one northern governor was working to become Vice President in the event of my demise". Tambuwal became shocked upon notice that he lost all trust, relevance and respect in the eyes of the party chieftains and the presidency. Since then, he lifted his feet off the presidency, only his deputy has been attending events, programmes and meetings, even if the presence of governor is important. Going by the aforementioned, Tambuwal as a governor stopped enjoying any courtesy as a member of the ruling party, and his options were narrowed to recooking his vomits and eat them back. So he did today. He was even shy and timid to match eyes with the President. I don't think they have met again after PMB's mention of the unfortunate act of wishing him death. Though many have contemplated his ability to dump APC for PDP for ignorant of what transpired, but he has no option then to opt out. Because even in Sokoto, former governor Wamako is still holding the APC structures, and in the event of disloyalty, he can slaughter him. Today's defection of Tambuwal is actually long overdue. He has lost respect of every right thinking Nigerian that knows what really transpired that he parted ways with the presidency. He has joined the league of Fayose; wishing people death. His is worst, evidences showed how he was working tirelessly to become vice president. He has today declared for President, making their number four, of those who defected from APC to join the presidential race. This is just to educate a little those that finds his defection muddlesome. As it is the tradition, they say whenever somebody defect, his faults surfaces by the Buharists, which I am one. I follow happenings keenly.
