Traditional engineering programs in Nigeria have not supported applied engineering hence the need for the agitations for the creation of a registered professional engineering technologist that has authority. This is based on the fact that engineering technologists are involved in the practice of engineering as defined by law.

Pg 6 section 4.0 VIEWS & COMMENTS OF FG ON THE COMMISSION FOR THE REVIEW OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN NIGERIA 1992.
Says, "Polytechnic should concentrate on the training of middle level manpower for direct employment in industry as a support for university high level manpower. The fact that some other countries provide the facility for the award of degrees not reason for Nigeria to review the polytechnic program "

This stand must change because the polytechnic then was only for NATIONAL DIPLOMA. Why did the FG brought HND?
EducationRe: Federal Polytechnics To Award Bachelor Of Technology (B. TECH) Degrees by Hndholder(m): 11:33am On Jul 01, 2008
This act frustrated parents who do not have the ability to send their Children to University as well as the HND holder. Not Every one can pass through University at the same time. HND was just then an alternative. The Authority then does not have option but to change and upgrade HND to B.Tech, and the Polytechnics to University. Former president Obasanjo’s regime already made pronouncements that the HND certificate will remain a legal tender in Nigeria and holders of such certificate will continue to be recognized as the equivalent of first-degree holders without discriminatory remunerations and limit to progression in the work place. Why should we now register as Technologists that bring no changes to our life when we can perform better than the degree holder in technological trades? We can as well be call a Degree holder? We will no longer need polytechnics again; let everybody go to university and get any degree he/she wants. Why should polytechnics exist in Nigeria when they are of no significance?
EducationRe: Federal Polytechnics To Award Bachelor Of Technology (B. TECH) Degrees by Hndholder(m): 11:24am On Jul 01, 2008
The HND men still want a degree, why? Our society listens only to what people say without looking at the merit.  The degree holders job is no longer available in Nigeria, as available spaces has been reserved for some class. HND holders can move if having both the skill and additional qualifications, PGD, Masters etc. why should him allow COREN to hold him down, get to Banks or computer outfit you meet our HND men there leaving the engineering for only the degree holders. So HND is gradually fading out in Nigeria as it has been made to be inferior to university degrees. This is because it takes only 2 years to get HND and 3 years to get a Bsc in UK. But the Nigeria HND is a five years (4 academic years and 1 year industrial training). Taking a look at the course curriculum for HND programs, the credit hours are equal or greater than that of so many degree programs in Nigeria. Every ICAN examination conducted every year; HND graduates perform brilliantly than their Bsc. counterpart.   University education is met to provide the nation with skill managerial position and decision making while the polytechnic education met to provide highly skill technological man power for the nation, As at today, BTEC HND, which is obtained in Britain could be liken to Nigeria ND, is not an equivalent of BSc. Why then the problem of discrimination between Theoretical Professionals (Bsc) and Technological Professionals (HND)?

The discriminations about the graduates of universities and polytechnics are becoming something that one has to sleep over day and night. Universities are types of institutions acceptable in Nigeria; majority of those in the university today once had National Diploma or HND from the polytechnic. It is not possible to compare the output in academics (credit load) in the polytechnics to the university. Types of crowd in lecture hall in the university, (700 or more students) encouraging examination malpractices is there possibility that all the students in that lecture got the lecturers message? Compare this to the Polytechnic's where we have about 20 to 50 in a lecture hall?
EducationRe: Federal Polytechnics To Award Bachelor Of Technology (B. TECH) Degrees by Hndholder(m): 11:20am On Jul 01, 2008
HND holders ordinarily should have much more contributed to our development and we feel this should be reviewed inline with the Obasanjo regime directive on this policy. It should be noted that HND holders studied in polytechnics not as a result of academic incompetence, but owing largely to frustration (resulting from continued delay in securing university admission) and sometimes on financial grounds. In fact, HND holders are not in any way inferior to university degree holders. (At the primary and secondary school levels, the same lessons are taught, and the same examinations are set for them.) Why pegging HND holders progress? Even in the university and at the polytechnics, there is an institutional organ called the congregation or convokes, to be a member of the congregation, you should be a graduate of university (which is not a right of Polytechnics graduate) and by the interpretation of the graduate, and you have to be a degree holder. Because of that in the appointment of Bursars even with ICAN, or registrar of regulatory body, say the Engineering personnel had some Masters or PhD with HND they are still not good enough, still regarded as inferior, cannot be place in the position. It is worst if you have a member of NSE in the panel, he can still stomach the presence of a mechanic than technologist, COREN Engineering Technologists Certificate is as useless as the polytechnics, Any polytechnic or institution that try to elevates the polytechnic graduate is no more qualified to be a member of the congregation.

Nigerian Association of Technological Engineers then is the today NISET, NATE and NAEC. We in NATE always opposed the designation as Engineering Technologist but for separation of Identity Technological Engineers were preferred.
The civil service only recognized Technical officer and Higher Technical Officers this are technician grade. As the Government document did not recognize Engineering Technologists, Technician or Craftsmen. All what is the document are Mechanics, Technical officers and Engineers. This Engineering Technologists is still strange is a way to silence the practical group while the theoretical group showing the way. To the civil service, Technologists cannot go any further, and this places some kind of disadvantage not only on the HND holders and COREN but on the country as well.

Some of our write up before the change:

Please read then comment;

Renaming HND as B.Tech for Professional Technologist (Engineering)
(COREN Engineering Technologists Certificate is as useless as the polytechnics)

Background
We are happy that COREN want to put the house in good order now since the event of renaming HND as TECHNOLOGIST. It will be recalled then when things became critical, Engr. Inuwa the then president of COREN using his influence with the Government, and amending Decree 55 of 1970, with Degree 27 of 1992 finally renaming HND as Engineering Technologist with abbreviation Engn.Tech. (That Britain used for Technician.) This abbreviation without stamp of office made our members refuse to register. If Britain that brought the polytechnic could name their technologists then as Incorporated Engineers, what is the problem then in Nigeria? NATE was involved in the amendment at the beginning, COREN agreed then to the use of Technological Engineers like the Incorporated Engineers of UK while our role can still be that of Technologist, in fact NATE suggested COREN'S new name "Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) as a way to meet the desire of the HND holders. Several other issues were yet unresolved before the change of decree. Then we were not happy, the amendments of the decree, which we claimed, do not satisfy our needs created this present situation of lack of interest. www.corenng.org In all the 26 members only one sit for the HND Technologist; this was not because of population of Technologist in the register now as claimed by some council member but it was then a deliberate act of oppression to silence the Technologist group

In the proposal, he said, "About three or four issues were agreed upon, first the entry requirement must be a minimum of five credits at SSCE, including English and Mathematics. At the recent consultative meeting with heads of polytechnics and monotechnics on the implementation of the new and revised technical and vocational education curricula held in Kaduna, Yakubu had stressed the upgrading of the entry requirement into the ND programmes to five credit level passes.

The ND will continue as it is (running for two years). Then there will be a three-year Bachelor of Technology after the ND without the one-year industrial training break. "This means that somebody who has a credit level pass at the ND can now go and spend three years at the end of which he gets the Bachelor of Technology, within a total time of five years, regardless of the area, so long as it is B.Tech in core areas.

Anger is an emotional state that may range from minor irritation to intense rage. The physical effects of anger include increased heart rate, blood pressure, and levels of adrenaline and noradrenaline. Some view Anger as part of the fight or flight brain response to the perceived threat of pain.Anger becomes the predominant feeling behaviorally, cognitively and physiologically when a person makes the conscious choice to take action to immediately stop the threatening behavior of another outside force.

As B. Tech Unseats HND

A new phase of polytechnic education begins with the federal government's recent approval of the phasing out of the Higher National Diploma (HND) for the Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) degree. Bukola Olatunji writes on how the programme is proposed to run

Polytechnic education in the country cannot be the same again with the recent directive given to the Minister of Education, Dr. Igwe Aja-Nwachuku to introduce the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in core areas in polytechnics.

All polytechnics have been notified to continue the award of the National Diploma and begin the gradual introduction of the B. Tech programmes in areas where they have the wherewithal and competence.

What is now left for the Ministry of Education is to work out the modalities. All things being equal, the transition is expected to be complete, along with the legal backing, by the end of the present administration.

Will the degrees coming out of polytechnics be seen as inferior and have to struggle for recognition? Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Dr. Nuru Yakubu said in an interview at the weekend, "our answer to that is an emphatic 'No'". Rather, he said, they would be superior as facts on ground show. "Go and see the products of polytechnics that had the ND and went into Universities of Technology. Their performance, so far, both academically and in the field is not comparable to those that start from the 100 level in universities. In any event, the purpose is to produce very good Engineers, not Academics and this is the best procedure."

According to him, 'the core areas in polytechnics' have to be discussed, but the Act, which empowers NBTE to do accreditation, identifies the core areas of polytechnic training as science, technology, engineering and commerce. "So, I would say that even though the generality of the people think that only science, technology and engineering programmes are covered, commerce is also there, so courses or programmes that can be defined to be within the realm of commerce, I think, should also be regarded as core."

On how the programme would run, Yakubu said the Board had met with the Rectors of polytechnics, both state and federal and articulated its position on how it thinks the implementation should go.

"There will be a new curriculum, and this new curriculum, we also agreed, would be under the NBTE which should be renamed or changed into the National Commission for Polytechnics. That curriculum should be designed and developed by the National Commission for Polytechnics, which should also be the one to accredit the B.Tech programmes, not the National Universities Commission because we feel that if we are going to maintain the character and specialised nature of these polytechnics, they should have this body that accredits their own programmes otherwise, there will be no value added", the Executive Secretary explained.

As far as certification is concerned, he said, "We are of the view that after the two years, they would take the National Diploma. Then those that have credit level pass can now compete to get into the Bachelor of Technology programme and we think that judging from what is on the ground, the transition rate of those that possess the National Diploma, who go for the Higher National Diploma is between 20 and 25 percent. It is therefore possible to expect this proportion to go into the degree programme. This will greatly enhance enrolment into the degree programmes in polytechnics and we feel this is the best way forward."

It had been argued before that if another body accredits the degree programme in Polytechnics, such degrees could be dismissed with a snigger and a wave of the hand. But Yakubu said, "Our answer to that is simple. Let the market decide. Let the employers decide. Let us not just limit the argument within the realm of academic speculations. There is nothing wrong with that because there are many countries that have several bodies accrediting the award of degrees. We should be more innovative and consider our peculiar circumstances.

I'm not here to say that BSc Graduates are better or smarter. All I'm saying is there's a harsh reality on ground and you all had to have known this. When i wrote my JAMB in 1997 i knew that PolyJamb was not an option so id idnt even consider it.

John the Baptist
Both Matthew (11:1-15) and Luke (7:19-28) report what Jesus thought of John the Baptist. John the Baptist heard, while in prison, about the activities of Jesus. He sent two of his own disciples to go and find out if Jesus was indeed the one "who is to come, or shall we look for another?" (Matthew 11:3; Luke 7:20).
Many Christians would probably have wondered about this errand. Why would John the Baptist send people to find out for him who Jesus was? John had baptized Jesus at the River Jordan before Jesus started on His Mission. Matthew's account of that occasion suggests that John the Baptist recognized Jesus, that he knew who Jesus was, as the following passage indicates:
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now; for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness". Then he consented (Matthew 3: 13 - 15).
It should be noted that St. Mark's account of the baptism of Jesus contains nothing to indicate whether or not John the Baptist recognized Jesus (Mark 1:9-12). Was Matthew in error in reporting that John the Baptist knew exactly who Jesus was at the time he baptized Him?
If John the Baptist recognized Jesus at the time of the baptism, what follow-up actions did he take? Had he forgotten about the event by the time he sent his followers, or had his faith wavered in prison? Obviously his faith could not waver; for his courage and the strength of his conviction were exceedingly great. And we have it on Christ's authority that he was much more than a prophet and that "among them that are born of women, there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist." These considerations are somewhat of a digression since they do not touch on the issue of reincarnation - the subject matter of this book.
What is of great relevance to reincarnation is a statement provided by Matthew in the account of this incident:
And if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. (Matthew 11:14-15).
And if you are willing to understand what I, mean, he is Elijah, the one the prophets said would come. And if ever you were willing to listen, listen now! (Matthew 11:14-15, The Living New Testament).
Here in a clear language, the writer of Matthew says that John the Baptist is the reincarnation of Elijah. As we have already discussed, the Jewish people were expecting Elijah to reincarnate "before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord." It is clear from his Gospel that Matthew firmly believed that the time of Jesus Christ was the "great and terrible day of the Lord." For this reason he could state, without any hesitation, that John the Baptist was the reincarnation of Elijah.
Please note that John the Baptist was conceived and born as a baby by Elizabeth, the wife of Zechariah. He did not appear on the scene as an adult, as would be expected if a mere return of the physical body of Elijah was what happened.
By this statement, the author of the Gospel according to Matthew makes two points: first, reincarnation is a fact; second, Elijah reincarnated as John the Baptist.
The first point confirms the fact that belief in reincarnation was widespread at the time of Jesus and was accepted by His followers. Some Christian sects today believe, on the strength of this passage in Matthew, that John the Baptist was indeed a reincarnation of Elijah. But there is considerable doubt about this. St. Luke's account of the same visit of the disciples of John the Baptist to Jesus is the same as that of Matthew with one important exception: Luke completely omits the statement that John the Baptist was Elijah.

In narrating his call to prophethood, Jeremiah stated:
Now the word of the Lord came to me saying, "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; and before you were born I consecrated you, and I appointed you a prophet to the nations" (Jeremiah 1:45).
Christianity EtcRe: Grail Message Or Grail Centre by Hndholder(m): 12:42pm On Jun 20, 2008
The mission of Christ.
He spoke only of those things that people of His time needed to know to enable them to make spiritual progress. He did not teach all there was to know. And so Paul could say:
For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy is imperfect; but when the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully , ( I Corinthians 13: 9 - 12 ).
It should, therefore, be clear that the fact that an idea is not in the Bible, does not mean that the idea is false. That is, some truths are not in the Scriptures.
In this connection, let it be noted that the Trinity is not a concept that is mentioned frequently in the Bible. Indeed, the only direct mention is one single verse in the First Epistle of John:
For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one (1 John 5:7). (Authorized King James Version).
But even this verse is known to biblical scholars to be a very late interpolation (addition) and is sometimes omitted from modem translations of the New Testament. In other words, a direct mention of the Trinity is technically non-existent in the Bible. The Revised Standard Version, for example, states: 'There are three witnesses, the Spirit, the water, and the blood". It is almost far-fetched to consider this a reference to the Holy Trinity.
Matthew reported that Jesus commissioned the disciples to go and teach all nations, baptizing them "in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" (Matthew 28:19). But this quotation does not necessarily imply that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost are one. Despite the slimness of the evidence in the Bible, the Trinity has come to be accepted as central to Christian belief about the nature of God. And, of course, the Trinity is a correct teaching, a definite reality. But it must be rightly understood.
Christianity EtcRe: Grail Message Or Grail Centre by Hndholder(m): 12:39pm On Jun 20, 2008
You spoke of RE-INCANATION

No amount of logical arguments can convince some Christians of the fact of reincarnation. Nor would the accounts of the personal experiences of other people persuade such Christians. Even though it is quite obvious that, without reincarnation, one cannot argue convincingly of the perfect Justice of God, many Christians would still want to know what the Scriptures say about reincarnation. They would ask: Does the Bible support it? What did the earliest followers of Christ think of it? We shall show, in this Chapter, that in Biblical times, belief in reincarnation was so widespread, was so much a part of the culture, that it was taken for granted.

To bear the cross of the truth is a responsibility, by their fruit we shall know them.

Hypocrisy is a serious sickness and a great crime. It means making an outward display whilst inwardly concealing. Hypocrisy is more dangerous than evildoers. The hypocrites are always confused, always planning deceit and plots. Although outwardly they appear to be with the faithful, inwardly they are not because of the corruption of their hearts; the hypocrites are the most averse of mankind to the truth. The dealings of the hypocrites revolve around their own interests. When they meet the faithful, they make a show of belief and loyalty, in order to deceive the believers and as an action of dissimulation, hoping for whatever good and war-booty they have.
The hypocrites have many characteristics, the worst and most serious of which is disbelief, enmity and envy, they spread corruption on earth, slander and lies, they enjoin what is evil and forbid what is good, and they are stingy they have fake appearances and fancy speech whilst they are inwardly corrupt.
But I am not to judge but what ever they sow they will rip.

The Equal-Armed Cross
(The author has drawn his knowledge from
"In the Light of Truth: The Grail Message" by Abd-ru-shin)Symbolism is deeply rooted in the heart of the Indian! The symbols of his religions, both ancient and modern, are an intrinsic part of his culture. He cannot do without them, no matter how hard he tries to escape them. The longing for the symbols, to which he has been so accustomed, follows him wherever he journeys around the world, giving him the inner connection with life that he needs.

It is not without reason that the human spirit desires, or even needs, symbolism in some form or the other. It is a fundamental part of the human spirit! From the animist to the believer in the so-called ``higher faiths'', symbolism can be found everywhere. Even among the monotheistic faiths, which uphold the belief that it is wrong to have idols or symbols of any kind, one will unfailingly find traces of symbolism.

Every religion or culture has its own unique symbols. These symbols reflect a particular aspect of the spiritual nature of the group that adheres to them. Each symbol is a definite mark of the people who hold onto that symbol, who treasure it and revere it. It can help them on their path upwards to the Light, if its meaning swings in the Laws of Creation and if they understand its meaning. On the other hand, it can weigh them down if its meaning does not swing harmoniously in the Laws. There are also many ways of interpreting these symbols depending on one's chosen outlook, but only through considering their effects according to the Eternal Laws is it possible to tell whether the symbols have an upbuilding or a debasing effect on the spirit. To do this requires the awakening of the intuitive perception within the human being.

We have already mentioned that the teachings of all the existing religions have at one time or the other come into being only through the Holy Laws of Creation, which constitute the Will of God. Each teaching was precisely formed to correspond with the level of spiritual maturity of the people to whom it was given. The Eternal Laws could not permit anything else, because in order for a teaching to uplift the people, it must come close to their level of inner development and yet be sufficiently elevated in order to help them advance a step further. The Law of Attraction of Homogeneous Species necessitates this.

Every teaching that has emerged in the past, however, forms nothing more than a mere bridge to the Living Truth itself. Each teaching of itself cannot claim to be the complete Truth, as is clearly demonstrated today when we see how only a part-knowledge of Creation can be gained from the ancient sacred texts given to mankind. A complete Knowledge is still lacking, because mankind did not build upon the teachings in any other way except to distort them and introduce false doctrines into the picture. Even the great Vedic philosophy, with its wise teachings of karma, is sadly not exempt from it. Nevertheless the new Knowledge of Creation brings the longed-for clarification of all spiritual questions and completes the picture of Creation, because it is the ultimate Teaching to which the teachings of all former world-religions were merely bridges.

In a similar manner, the symbols of a particular teaching or faith have also formed in close association with the nature of that teaching. That is to say, the central points of each teaching are anchored in the various symbols that have been chosen to represent it. But since the teaching was originally adapted to the level of spiritual development of its adherents at the time, one can perhaps infer that the various symbols themselves are an indication of their degree of spiritual development!

If these teachings are all mere bridges to the mysterious and seemingly unattainable Eternal Truth, which therefore should have led to this Truth, we can probably assume that the symbols of these teachings also form bridges to that Eternal and Perfect Symbol of the Living Truth.

* * *

For thousands of years, the Equal-Armed Cross has been known and accepted as the symbol of the complete Truth. The Celts had recognised it, and so did those who concerned themselves with the various Grail legends. In India, too, there was a time in her history when the Cross was known, but unfortunately this period is closed to us today, and we can no longer draw from that time in order to confirm this for ourselves.

The Equal-Armed Cross of the Truth - also known as the Grail Cross - is not synonymous with the Cross of Suffering of Jesus Christ. Christians believe that this Cross of Suffering is the Cross of Truth and Redemption. But the Truth Itself does not declare that man should suffer! All suffering is due to the faults of man and are the outworking of the Law of Karma. Our Creator does not want us to suffer! Therefore the Cross on which Jesus was ruthlessly and mercilessly killed is not the Cross of Redemption.

This will be difficult for many Christians to accept, as the core doctrine of Christianity is that Christ brought Salvation to mankind only through and within His Death on the Cross. Because this was made the main doctrine, the Cross of Suffering eventually had to become the symbol of Christianity. This is one example of how a symbol can emerge that does not swing in the Laws of Creation, although it is very clear from the various biblical accounts that Christ did not teach about Salvation through His death, either explicitly or implicitly.

However, the Cross of Truth is completely different from the Christian Cross! In the first place, the Cross of Truth represents perfect balance. The vertical beam represents the activity of the masculine in Creation, while the horizontal beam reflects that of the feminine. And the circle which circumscribes the Cross represents the whole of Creation, i.e. the Circle of Creation. This is the Living Grail Cross!

This perfect activity is fundamental for the mutual upbuilding in Creation! Thus the vertical beam cannot be bigger than the horizontal or vice-versa. Harmony and equilibrium can only exist where there is equality on both sides working together in their respective tasks. The vertical beam therefore represents a physical activity, to which the form of the masculine is more suited, which is why it is vertically anchored. Likewise the horizontal beam represents a passive, gently balancing activity which receives and transmits equally to all creatures, and hence it is orientated horizontally. And since man and woman are properly anchored in Creation, this unique symbol really represents the harmony and perfection of the male and female complementary species working together in the circle of Creation!

But this Equal-Armed Cross signifies infinitely much more! It also embodies the three Laws of Creation in a visible form, so that every knowing one who gazes at this symbol will recognise the complete Truth in it!

Think about the Law of Spiritual Gravity which, like gravity on earth, operates in a vertical direction. The planes of Creation are separated out by this Law according to their spiritual density - the lighter and luminous ones at the top, and the heavier and more material ones at the bottom. The Law of Spiritual Gravity hence becomes the vertical beam of the Cross!

Now consider the Law of Attraction of Homogeneous Species, which operates on every plane in Creation. It forms groups of homogeneous species in each realm and power-centres wherever there is homogeneity among the creatures dwelling there. This is a horizontal effect, because it separates the species into their respective category on a particular plane. Hence the Law of Attraction of Homogeneous Species is the horizontal beam of the Cross!

Finally, observe the Law of Karma or the Law of Reciprocal Action which gives us only the fruits of our deeds. Whatever we send out into Creation returns to us, tracing the path of a circle. Since karma is cyclical in its operation we can regard the Law of Karma as the circle that circumscribes the horizontal and vertical beams!

And there we see it alive before us - the Equal-Armed Cross of Truth, the Cross of the Holy Grail, which mediates living power to all those who are able to see the Eternal Truth contained in it. Happy are those who strive with all their might to free their spirits from all karmaic burdens and recognise this Truth, for they will gain immensely from this symbol! The Cross of the Truth will then serve as a perpetual help for them, because they will continuously see the Living Truth before them in a visible form!

These three Laws, which are represented by the Equal-Armed Grail Cross in a circle, are the Living Truth for the sustenance of all Creation. Every spiritual question is answered through and in this Cross, which is firmly connected with the new Knowledge of the Laws of Creation on the earth at this time.
