The kind of higher qualification one possesses (be it HND or BSC). 
In Nigeria today, you already have an edge if you are a university graduate.  Unlike what is obtained in the developed world where an intending student can either choose to go to the university or Polytechnic without fear of being unemployed after graduating, it is not so in Nigeria.  If you are a Bsc holder, you have a high probability of getting job in banks even if you went to the University to study French while those that have HND and studied Business related courses are considered as substitutes or second class.  This was started by Guaranty Trust Bank in the 90’s when it was looking for a way to down size the number of job applicants trooping to it’s offices nationwide everyday.  However, whether knowingly or unknowing to them the division has stayed since then up till now and will continue if steps are not taken to check it.undue priority should not be attached or given to any of the graduates but equal opportunity must be given to both so that those meriting the job can easily be selected through their performance in either test or interview.  I must note here that to become a graduate in Nigeria (either HND or Bsc), one must have spent at least four years in a certain institution with intensive lectures and hard examination questions to cap it.  Therefore, no unjust differentiation should now be brought between the two graduates.

This has only led us to a situation where there is always a mad rush for acquiring university education by our intending students to the detriment of polytechnic education for technical advancement of our dear country.  The Bsc holder also see himself as superior to HND holder because of the gap that has been created by the employer but which does not reflect the true ability of the graduates (Polytechnic/University).  In companies where the two graduates are employed, there will be inequality and the employees will find it hard to socialise with one another.undue priority should not be attached or given to any of the graduates but equal opportunity must be given to both so that those meriting the job can easily be selected through their performance in either test or interview.  I must note here that to become a graduate in Nigeria (either HND or Bsc), one must have spent at least four years in a certain institution with intensive lectures and hard examination questions to cap it.  Therefore, no unjust differentiation should now be brought between the two graduates.

ACA Holders without University Education
In Nigeria and most parts of the world, employers of labour now discriminate against chartered accountants that do not possess any university education on grounds that the professional training they received is restricted and parochial. In a global business environment, resource managers must necessarily possess broad-based knowledge which only the university curricula can provide.

ACA with Degrees and ACA with HNDs
Although, the holder of a Bachelor's degree in accountancy from an accredited University and a holder of the Higher National Diploma from an accredited Polytechnic enjoy the same rating in ICAN's scheme of things, many employers of labour, including practicing firms, are now known to prefer degree holders to HND holders. The samples of adverts above did not mention the HND although one of them said a degree or its equivalent awarded by a reputable university! It is a known fact that no university in Nigeria awards any HND. Thus, their preference is unambiguous. In fact, the career path of the polytechnic holder in the public service has an unofficial bar according to an investigation conducted by The Guardian newspaper . According to the report, while the HND holder can rise to Grade level 13 or USS 12, the graduate can rise to Grade level 14 or USS 13. It added that some new generation banks have a policy of not recruiting HND holders at all. Discrimination against holders of the higher national diploma qualification is a serious indictment of our undue knack for certificates considering the impressive profile and success stories of many of our members who graduated from the polytechnics.

They were thinking it was only the problem of HND Engineering then.

Discrimination against HND holders

SIR: Please, permit me to draw your attention to the ongoing discrimination against Higher National Diploma (HND) holders in both the public and private sectors. It will be recalled that Polytechnics and Colleges of Education in Nigeria were established to produce technocrats in order to reduce the level of unemployment in Nigeria. Today less attention is given to most of these polytechnics and colleges of education to achieve the desired goals of having the HND graduates in the society.

As you are quite aware, HND holders spend more years in the institution than BSc. holders because it is mandatory for all HND holders to first undergo a two-year National Diploma (ND) programme before proceeding on one year Industrial Attachment and later they go back to the institution for the HND programme which also takes two years before proceeding for one year NYSC service. In simple arithmetic, HND holders spend six years in the course of acquiring HND certificates.

It is therefore very shocking to note that HND holders are not accorded equal status in terms of employment, promotion, conversion, etc in the Federal and State Civil Service even if an HND holders possess "Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) and Masters degree in a relevant field of studies. In the Federal Civil Service today, BSc. holders are accorded more recognition with their first appointment as Administrative Officers on (Salary Grade Level 08) and this gives them the chance to progress in the service up-to the rank of Permanent Secretary while HND holders are normally employed as Executive Officers on (Salary Grade Level 07) even when the HND holders have distinction or upper credit.

The career progression of HND holders in the Federal Civil Service today terminates at Chief Executive Officer on (Salary Grade Level 14) and this also includes those who possess (PGD) and (Masters Degree) in the service. It is pertinent to also note that commercial banks in Nigeria no longer employ the services of HND holders. And yet there are no existing rules and regulations either in the Federal Civil Services or the Nigerian Constitution that encourage this kind of discrimination against HND holders.

In a related development, the career progression in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation is quite different from that of the Federal Civil Service. For example, in the Office of the Accountant General, HND holders with one year certificate in ANAN are appointed or promoted to the rank of Accountant 1 on (Salary grade level 09).

Also HND holders with one year certificate in ICAN are appointed or promoted to the rank of Senior Accountant on (Salary Grade Level 10). These two progressions enable staff to become a Director or the Permanent Secretary. The process of conversion for HND holders in the office of the Accountant General with additional qualification is also very easy.

There is the urgent need for you to call for a meeting with other relevant stakeholders such as the National Assembly, the Federal Civil Service Commission, and Head of Civil Service of the Federation to harmonise the issue and if possible issue a circular on the way forward. If urgent steps are not taken now to address the anomalies, this might continue to affect the holders of HND certificates in Nigeria and parents may stop sending their children to polytechnics and colleges of education.

Polytechnics in the country have now been empowered to run Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programmes following the passage of a new Polytechnic Act to that effect. A speech read on behalf of President J.A. Kufuor by the Minister of Education, Science and Sports, Papa Owusu Ankomah, at the sixth congregation of the Takoradi Polytechnic at the weekend said the act would also allow for further progression of holders of the Higher National Diploma (HND) along the academic ladder. Nine hundred and fifty graduands, comprising 741 males and 209 females, passed out. President Kufuor said“the act also introduced an innovation which gave academic autonomy to the polytechnics to introduce programmes in areas of comparative advantage to each polytechnic, taking into account regional needs and national aspirations. He said the government was undertaking policy initiatives to ensure that the polytechnics and other sister institutions functioned as envisaged in order to help attain national development goals. The President said the government, through the Ghana Education Trust Fund would continue to invest considerable amounts to provide physical infrastructure and other facilities to enhance teaching and learning on the various polytechnic campuses. He announced that for the 2007 financial year, the government had allocated ¢13.8 billion to the Takoradi Polytechnic for development projects. Currently, he said, the GETFund was funding the construction of a hostel block which would house up to 400 students on the campus of the School of Business Studies at Butumagyebu, President Kufuor stated that for the country to succeed there was the need to revitalize the mission of the polytechnics. “You have achieved
a lot, but remember that continued innovation and the permanent desire to achieve excellence lie at the heart of national renewal and transformation,” President Kufuor explained. The Chairman of the Polytechnic Council, Professor Daniel Mireku-Gyimah, said in the last five years the government ad continued to provide funds, through buildings and the provision of learning facilities at the polytechnic. He assured the GETFund Board that the Polytechnic council was committed to ensuring that all projects in the polytechnic were executed properly and at approved costs. Accordingly, the Council had resolved not to accept any shoddy work and also not to tolerate undue delay of projects in the polytechnic, Professor Mireku-Gyimah said.

Thus we learn, for instance, that the Law of Sowing and Reaping (Galatians 6, 7) applies not only to the earthly seed, but also to man's actions and thoughts, which through the working of the incorruptible Laws of Creation ripen into fruits, corresponding exactly to good or evil volition, of which man alone must taste. Thoughts, intuitive perceptions and deeds are very effective forms or "works" (Revelation 14, 13) that remain connected with their author until he severs himself from them. It is repeatedly emphasized in the Grail Message how important to man is the knowledge of the Laws of Creation, for the very reason that his spirit possesses the ability to recognize the Will of God in these Laws. A true upbuilding is only possible if man bases his entire earth-life on the Laws of Creation. Thereby he fulfils the Will of God.

We must take these Laws as they are, unchangeable and eternal, always the same, just as God, Who has woven them into Creation, is always the Same, the Eternal One.

Further important questions that move the seeking man are dealt with clearly and objectively, whether they concern fate, hereditary sin, the meaning and purpose of life, birth and death, the beyond, incarnation, the sexual problem, marriage; or the Mission of Christ and His death on the Cross, the Son of God and the Son of Man, the mystery of Lucifer, the Last judgement, the Cosmic Turning-Point, the Holy Grail, the Grail Castle.

As regards the Grail Castle, Abd-ru-shin says that it really exists at the summit of the spiritual Creation, far above the Paradise of the human spirits, as the point of power transmission of the radiations which come from the Divine Sphere above for the lower-lying parts of Creation. In the Revelation of John the Grail Castle is called "the Temple of God" (Revelation 11, 19).

Only from this height can an unbroken, comprehensive view over the entire working of Creation be given in a Message from the Grail. Hence the name "Grail Message", which in addition receives special significance because it appears at a time when mankind stands at an important turning point.

No offence, but I have examined and weighed the Grail Message and found it quite self-contradictory on many counts. . . and the usual excuse is that anyone who is not favourable to the thoughts of Abdrushin is not using their intelligence! Yet, how many disciples of mr Shin are half intelligent to speak about the issues we have queried?

It’s so funny. People come up to say the bible is not correct or complete. That it has been changed. That the original message Jesus brought has either been lost or adulterated. Yet they show no proof. There is no shred of evidence anywhere at anytime to substantiate these claims. Then they come up with another ‘message’ claiming it as the final and most complete work of God. They take the part of the bible that is acceptable to their proud and arrogant minds add some philosophy, some logic and proclaim a final work. Any other part of the bible that is unacceptable to them they discard as forgeries or human additions. What’s to stop me from taking bits and pieces from the bible (those bits and pieces in agreement with my ego) putting it together with some mumbo jumbo from Freud and coming up with another new age religion? Let’s face it I WILL GET FOLLOWERS because there are definitely people with the same mind set as me. People with ego like me.
But Jesus Christ proclaimed that we have to accept Him with childlike minds for us to enter the Kingdom of God. He hasn’t changed his mind. He never will.

I beg to differ. The 'childlike simple belief' that Jesus demanded suffices for a lot of people. Its that humility to accept Jesus at His word that is called faith.
