The Intel Meltdown bug can be fixed with an OS update. The same can't be said for the Spectre bug. For you to completely protect your system, as much as is possible right now, against Spectre you have to update your System BIOS. PC makers have started rolling out a special BIOS Spectre update. A BIOS update isn't like an OS update. It won't install automatically. You need to download and install it yourself. Since BIOS updates once in a while roll out, and this is a very critical update, we will walk you through the entire process.

Microsoft – The Surface tablets BIOS will update via Windows updates. These tablets are an exception and no other Windows PCs/desktops will update its BIOS via Windows updates.

Install BIOS Spectre Update
