NPL kicks off October 23 with record 24 clubs Posted: 2010-09-29 10:45 The Nigeria Premier League (NPL) will now commence on October 23 with a record 24 clubs including Bayelsa United, after a meeting between football officials and the Nigerian Sports ministry. Bayelsa United, one of four relegated clubs at the end of last season, have consistently fought against their relegation, claiming they should have been awarded three vital points against Wikki Tourists in their final game of the season, when the match was abandoned by the home team. Last weekend, the NPL announced that the season will kick off October 2, when the earlier date of September 25 was discarded by the NFF. But even that new date was rendered unfeasible by a plethora of protests from various stakeholders led by Bayelsa United and including referees, and the players' union. Bayelsa chairman Victor Rumson Baribote threatened to go to court to halt the League kickoff if his club were relegated, a threat that prompted the meeting with the sports ministry. The current decision means that all four previously relegated clubs will now contest in the 2010/2011 season along with four newly-promoted clubs. So Bayelsa United, Wikki Tourists, Gateway and Ranchers Bees will keep their places in the Premier League where they will be joined by promoted clubs Crown FC, Bukola Babes, JUTH and Plateau United. This enlarged representation means the League will now have to draw up new fixtures, and sources at the NPL also told KickOffNigeria.com that the League is considering splitting the league into two streams of 12 teams each, with a playoff for the Top Four teams to decide the League winner. Four clubs would then be relegated from each stream at the end of the season, with two promoted on both sides to return the competition to its normal 20 clubs at the end of the current season. |

Nigerian football's ongoing crisis was revved up another gear on Tuesday when the Zonal Coordinators, claiming to represent the NFF General Assembly, wrote to President Goodluck Jonathan and FIFA. In two separate letters to the President and world football's governing body, the NFF Assembly accused the men of corruption and interference respectively. Both letters, signed by Effiong Johnson, who was elected as Head of the State FA Chairmen in the removed board, accused Sports Minister Isa Bio and Director General Patrick Ekeji of being the key figures perpetuating the crisis. The duo are accused of having arbitrarily taken over the administration of football in the country. In a political twist to the crisis, the Assembly accused the Sports Minister of trying to court a FIFA ban in order to cost the President Goodluck Jonathan next year's elections, claiming that Bio belongs to 'a different politcial camp' than the President. Further, Ekeji is accused of sundry corruption charges in the letter, with the Assembly asking the President to fire the DG along with the Minister. http://www.kickoff.com/news/18012/nff-want-bio-ekeji-fired.php |

Out of all the ills that have befallen this country, i still believe it's not the worse in the world, yes we have crooks in the high places, yes we also have crooks in the lower places, tell me in this world where there are no poor people? i am not rich, i have alot of problems plaguing me, but does that mean i should start cursing myself every morning? wishing myself bad luck? i have made series of mistakes in life, does that mean i should remain in my self pity? Nigeria is like me, the more mistakes i make, the better my chances of surviving. (it takes a well composed mind to understand this statement). Nigeria is bad, yet we are still together, has anyone thought about why we are yet to go our different ways? smaller countries with lesser problems have long parted ways, yet we are still together smaller countries with tiny population have gone to war and came out worse, yet we are still together can you boldly say the number of poor people in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s is lower than what we have now? (put the difference in population size into consideration). we have more people that have made it than before, you could walk a whole street before and not find a single car owner, but now it's a different ball game you could walk a whole street and not find a house with a TV set, but now almost every houses own a tv the number of people in school now far exceed the number of people in school before now. the number of industries now is more than what we had before the number of standard houses we have now exceed what we had before are these not changes? yes, we have poor people, but is there any society without poor people? is there any society without homeless people? is there any PERFECT society out there? you can choose to keep crying and not do anything, but don't come here to spoil the minds of others who are ready to face the challenges before us. All i know is that, there has never been a brighter chance of turning this country around than now, this has been the best chance ever for us to turn this country around. Have you guys seen the way our celebrities, clergymen and activists have gotten involved in the activities of this country? has there ever been a time like this? There is hope for this country, things are changing, it's EITHER you stay in the past and keep complaining or join the present, carve out a rewarding future for your own generation, our father's generation failed us, PLEASE DO NOT FAIL YOUR PRESENT GENERATION AND THE ONE YET UNBORN. |

^^^^ You just don't understand what i am saying, when it comes to online stuffs like this, i repeat, people should now allow someone to trade their account (the money you cannot lose), that's what i am saying. Physically, it's okay, but on a forum, its not okay, i may be sounding hard and harsh but i am talking from experience, alot of people come on this forum to boast about how much they make, this and that, but end up putting those who believe in them into trouble, if you have to deal with anyone, do it in person and make sure he or she has financial backbone/assets on ground should in case things screw up and you have to get your money back. fine, the lawyer thing is cool, but it can only be useful if you are dealing with someone you have seen before, knows his/her abode and all that. |
Everyone, please DO NOT LET ANYONE TRADE FOR YOU no matter how boastfully they talk, don't give out your account to anyone, unless you don't mind losing your money. A word is enough for the wise. |
Eguma tips Dolphin to win league title Manager of Nigeria Premier League side, Dolphin F.C. of Port Harcourt, Stanley Eguma says his team can win the 2010/2011 NPL title. The season begins on October 2 and the Port Harcourt based side are scheduled side open their account with a tricky tie at the Rwang Pam Stadium against Plateau United. “We have some of the best players in Nigeria” Eguma told SuperSport.com. “Emma Godwin, Victor Babayaro, Sunday Rotimi, and Udoo Ochiogu are some of the most experienced players on the domestic scene in Nigeria. All we need now is the required motivation from the sponsors and we will definitely win the league.” On the other sides to watch out for this season, Eguma who is also known as “Nigeria’s own Harry Redknapp” noted that there may be a few shocks on the cards. People talk about the traditional sides, Enyimba, Heartland, Rangers and Kano Pillars but the way I see it, an unheralded side may just sneak in from nowhere and clinch the title so all the sides must gird their loins….we at Dolphins will certainly be doing that” he added with a smile. |
Super Eagles’ interim head coach Austin Eguavoen is hoping that the duo of Kalu Uche and Osaze Odemwingie will reproduce their impressive displays for their clubs in the colours of the Nigerian national team against Guinea in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier next month. He told SuperSport.com that he has been following the performances of the Nigerian players based abroad since the start of the 2010/2011 season and so far he is impressed. When prodded to comment on the performances of Kalu Uche and Odemwingie for their clubs over the weekend, Eguavoen could not help but salute the duo for their displays. The 45-year-old Nigerian coach, however, believes that the form of the twosome comes at the right time when the Super Eagles will head to Conakry to face Guinea on October 10. “I am happy with the performances of our players especially the ones that will be part of the game against Guinea in the Nations Cup qualifier. It is good to see our players do well, as I believe that it will rub off on the national team. “As for Osaze and Kalu Uche, any coach will be happy to see his players perform the way they did. And their performance is coming at the right time ahead of the qualifier against Guinea in Conakry. Hopefully and barring any injury to them, I know that they will bring same performance to the national team,” the former Enyimba manager said. At the weekend, Odemwingie played a key role and scored the opener in ensuring that West Brom upset Arsenal by 3-2 at the Emirates in the Barclays English Premier League. In Spain, Kalu Uche’s early brace helped modest Almeria to a 2 – 0 away win over 10-man Deportivo La Coruna. http://www.supersport.com/football/nigeria/news/100927/Austin_wants_Kalu_Osaze_to_replicate_form |
Taye Taiwo celebrated his recall to the Nigeria squad by scoring a candidate for goal of the season as Olympic Marseille beat Sochaux 2-1. Taiwo was this week recalled to the Super Eagles after being left out of the opening fixture against Madagascar, and showed what he can bring to the Nigeria team. The left back picked up a pass halfway into the opposition area, pushed the ball forward before letting off what looked like a cross to beat the goalkeeper at the far post. Asked at half time if it was a fluke, Taiwo was quick to insist he knew what he was doing. "I wanted the ball to go in, and it did," he said. The goal, Taiwo's third of the season, was reminiscent of a similar goal he scored at the 2005 World Youth Championship against Ukraine. That goal proved to be the winner as the Under-20 team progressed to the final where they lost to an Argentina team inspired by a certain Lionel Messi. http://www.supersport.com/football/nigeria/news/100927/Taiwo_celebrates_call_up_with_wonder_goal |
Tornadoes ready to release Salami Nigeria Premier League (NPL) side Niger Tornadoes have declared that they are willing to listen to prospective clubs willing to sign on Eugene Salami. Chairman of the club, David Suleiman, said they are ready to open talks with rival sides in the Premier League willing to pay the asking price for the striker, who has been Tornadoes’ top scorer in the past two seasons. Suleiman, a former executive member of the Nigeria Football Association (now Nigeria Football Federation), is also hoping that Niger Tornadoes can keep the 21-year-old striker for the 2010/2011 season, which kicks off this weekend. “We want to keep all of our players especially the ones that did well last season. But this is always difficult when there are offers from other sides. In the case of Eugene Salami we want to keep him for the coming season, but if another club comes with the right fee then we will do business,” said Suleiman. But the Niger Tornadoes’ chief added that his side will include a clause in the deal with any Nigerian club that eventually signs the player. “Of course we will allow him go for the fee that we think is right. But there will be a clause in the contract that will also allow Niger Tornadoes earn money if he eventually gets a club abroad,” he disclosed. http://www.supersport.com/football/nigeria/news/100927/Tornadoes_ready_to_release_Salami |
