Dolphins & Sharks players end strike

The Nigeria Premier League outfits have called off their industrial action after they were assured by the government that they would get part of their pay on Monday

Nigeria Premier League teams Dolphins and Sharks players have ended their two-week strike action after being assured from the Rivers State Government that they will be given part payment on Monday.

The players of both clubs stormed the State Government House on Thursday evening to seek audience with the governor Rotimi Amaechi and in the process stopped all vehicular activities in the government office.

Dolphins and Sharks players have not been paid their sign on fees for last season and this season which is just two games away from ending. They are also owed two months regular salary and some match bonuses.

Some of the players informed Goal that they have been living in abject poverty and were unable to shoulder their responsibilities as bread winners of their families owing to the debt they are owed.

Meanwhile the commissioner has charged both teams to approach their remaining games in the NPFL with all seriousness in bid to bring laurel back to the state while also thanking the players for showing their grievances in an orderly manner.

Dolphins are seventh on the log with 54 points from 36 games while Sharks are 10th with 52 points from as many matches.

Barcelona's display was worrying, says Mascherano

The Argentine admits his team did not play well at Camp Nou and have to make sure they bounce back from a second consecutive league defeat

Javier Mascherano feels Barcelona's performance in their surprise 1-0 defeat to Celta on Saturday was "worrying".

The Catalans failed to recover from their 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Clasico last weekend, following it up with a loss to coach Luis Enrique's former side at Camp Nou.

Mascherano says that even though they created a number of chances to score, Barca's display was simply not good enough.

"We played a bad game - we were not comfortable at any point in the whole game," he said after the match.

"We had our chances but we did not develop our game. It is worrying.

"The defeat against Real Madrid did not have an influence on us in this match. Beyond the fact it is two defeats in a row, the game here was different. We created some chances but we know we did not play well."

The 30-year-old said it was now crucial for Barca to get back to winning ways as soon as possible, starting with Wednesday's Champions League game against Ajax.

"We have to lift our heads," said Mascherano. "If you want to be at a club like this, you have to keep fighting. All is not lost, on Wednesday we have an important match in the Champions League. We have to win that and gain confidence.

"The season is long and we have to believe in ourselves. We know that people will want to make us believe that we did everything wrong and it is not the case. We can still change it."

This is ridiculous! Let me summarize what happened for the interest of readers that aren't aware.

Sept 11, 2013: Kano pillars vs Enyimba.

10mins to the end of the game, kano pillars fans invaded the stadium and disrupted the match. They beat up Emyimba players and match officials (including the female asist ref on the sidelines). The premiership rules are straightforward; any team that does this will be sanctioned. It will forfeit all its remaining home games, 3 points will be awarded to their opponents and they will pay a fine.

Funny enough, none of this was done to pillars because of Aminu Maigari, the NFF boss. When LMC took action and awarded Enyimba 3 pts, Maigari pulled his strings, set up an NFF appeal committee and got the match rescheduled.

Now, if that isn't a favor to pillars, I wonder what is.

Lol, this lie from the bias media house you are quoting has already been disputed. the case of NFF trying to bar the LmC has also been clarified, when LmC hurriedly gave the 3 points to Enyimba, Kano pillars took the case to the FA who had to investigate the issue.. what happened was an encroachment after Kano pillars scored which was evidently proven by Pillars, Enyimba couldn't prove theirs, decision was taken to replay the game on a neutral ground.
