Politics / 10,000 Traffic Cameras To Be Installed In Lagos. by Honestly1: 12:19am On Feb 29, 2016
Lagos state government has unveiled its plan to install traffic cameras around the state in a bid to ensure strict obedience to traffic laws.

The Lagos state Commissioner for Science and Technology, Olufemi Odubiyi in a chat with YNaija at the YTech100 event at Social Media Week Lagos, revealed that plans have already been concluded by the state to install traffic cameras for better traffic monitoring.

The Commissioner also said that to reduce the heavy gridlock that has now come to be the trademark of the metropolitan city, the government is working on introducing other means of transport.

He noted that congestion is what causes traffic and therefore the government has resolved to address the issue.

He said “Under the smart city project, there is the e-transport. It is congestion that causes traffic and to deal with congestion you have to look at other means of transport.”

“The state would use technology to coordinate the service delivery among these means of transport to create a routine so that people can schedule their movement. You can easily plan when you know exactly how long it would take you to move from one point to the other.”

“We are deploying 10,000 traffic cameras within the state”, he added.

“These are cameras that have facial recognition and also have the ability to recognise car plate numbers. The government does not have to run after habitual offenders because they will be caught.”

The commissioner also said the introduction of the mobile courts is another way the government is working to alleviate the traffic situation of the state, noting that traffic offenders, who are sometimes the cause of gridlocks, would be given instant punitive measures, upon apprehension.

Odubyi also revealed the plan of the government to empower people in technology by educating them right from the primary school level.

He highlighted the efforts of the government in ensuring that Lagos remains the technological hub of the country.

“Government is empowering people via education in technology and also technology training from primary, secondary and tertiary level of education.”

“We build computer centers in schoold with 20 computers and solar inverters to help create empowerment in Lagos state,” he revealed.

He noted that the government is doing everything to make life easier for Lagosians. “All these is to make life better for Lagosians.”

Sorru o buh whoever wrote this story 8s so limited in thinking.. BTW, who said dropping from school to follow up ur passion is d best idea... I bet u stay in d village or so. I have friends who are better artists than YOU who finished school very well. Thry knew how to control their time , they still made money and still develop ed their cerrer and left school with good grade. U beter tell us y u left school. If you think dropping school to draw arts on paper is d best for you, better think twice. 300 level for thay matters. I am making my researches already to seee top artists that went to school. Be there comparing urself to seun and zukerberg. You have different destinies. You need someone to tell u d truth. Leaving school for this is a foolish idea. People have tougher passion and dreams to pursue yet they dint leave school.. good luck to you.

Jealous much?

I am not bitter about olajumoke okay... I'm just saying the way olajumoke is being celebrated , if thats how firstclass graduate or intelligence is being celebrated this country would have gone forward. If we celebrate mental beauty the way we celebrate unnecessary stuff in this country, we woukd have gone better than this. I understand the way we think in this country. We mostly celebrate foolish things.. Question how can olajumoke create employment, increase the gdp and bring about development to our nation?

she is a first class accounting graduate, doesn't have even a bread selling job for the mean time and you think when i give her an oil company to manage, she will be able to grow it?

And you seriously think coming out with first class mean you have "mental intelligence"? You need to check the word intelligence in the dictionary again and tell us the meaning. Intelligence involves you finding your way out of a problem. If your sister-inlaw sees her being jobless as a problem and she is still waiting for a BIG job and, do not get something to do for the mean time, because she came out with a first class, would you still call her intelligent?

Why are you this bitter? If your sister Inlaw is really mentally intelligent, she won't still be jobless. If you are mentally intelligent you won't spew this crap from your gob.
Quit hatting and quit being a killjoy, you'll end up benefitting nothing.
May God grant your #FirstClass sister Inlaw a good job.

Your sister had the opportunity to go to school, Jumoke didn't. Maybe if she grew up under your sister's circumstances, she might have also been a first class physics student or something, or probably invented something for the world to celebrate.

Mental intelligence should be celebrated, and so should beauty.
However, the definition of beauty is what should be addressed.
