Odumakin: Nigeria has lost a phenomenal leader, crusader of new nation -- Oyetola

The Governor of Osun, Adegboyega Oyetola, has said that with the passing of Yinka Odumakin, Nigeria and Osun, has lost a fearless fighter and a crusader of a new Nigeria.

The governor said this while extolling the virtues of the late Odumakin whose remains were laid to rest on Saturday in Moro, his country home.

Oyetola noted that the deceased left behind a legacy of inspirational service, fierce loyalty to the Yoruba race and relentless contributions to the quest for a greater nation.

This is even as the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and his Oyo State Counterpart, Mr. Seyi Makinde, leader, Afenifere Yoruba group, Ayo Adebanjo and Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, eulogized the deceased.

Addressing the people at the funeral service organised in honour of the deceased, Governor Oyetola said Odumakin's trajectory through life, whether as an impressionable undergraduate activist in Ife, a purposeful columnist, a fiery anti-dictatorship combatant, a vociferous Afenifere scribe, or his political involvement, reads like a profile in courage.

Oyetola further stated: "He did not live a wasted life. He was an illustrious son of Osun and a man of deep conviction who constantly fought for what is right, just, and equitable.

"He simply lived for the people. He was a phenomenal leader, who, without holding public office, impacted us in unique ways.

"However, we must not sorrow like those who do not have hope. We must find comfort in the truly phenomenal life he lived. We should rejoice, knowing Odunmakin has left for a better place.

"He has left for us on this side of humanity a legacy of inspirational service, fierce loyalty to the Yoruba race and relentless contributions to the quest for a greater nation.

"We are indeed grateful for his life. It is our fervent prayer that the good Lord grant his dearly-beloved family and all of us the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss. May his soul rest in perfect peace."

Speaking, Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, lauded the uncommon virtues of the deceased, and described him as an un-apologetic leader to Yoruba nation's agenda.

"Odumakin was unapologetic to Yoruba nation's agenda and he was not a secessionist. He always cleared the path to progress, he made great impact towards the progress and development of our country. Yinka's departure has given a great legacy, the legacy of speaking truth and legacy of unrelenting campaign for the restructuring of our country.

"As we all know, this country needs rescue from the evil merchants who want to drag it down. That is what our brother, the late Odumakin stood for all his life right from his days at the University of Ifes now Obafemi Awolowo University.

"We must not succumb to the merchant of division, we must not succumb to the merchant of secession and all calculated to bring this country down, that is all we can do to keep the memory of Odumakin.

"On behalf of our Chairman, Southwest Governors Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who would have loved to be here, and the entire Governors, I affirm that we will  continue to pursue the courage of conviction, the determination not to give up, the pursuit of restructuring and all that Yinka stood for until we have a new Nigeria," Fayemi added.

Also, Oyo State Governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde, eulogised the courageous life lived by the deceased which according to him had paved the way for the emancipation of truthfulness, equity and justice in the human race.

Makinde said, "A life lived with integrity, commitment to one's ideals, even if such life is without fortune or fame, it will be a shinning star to light the path of others that are coming behind, and that is what the deceased--Yinka Odumakin -- did for this generation.

"The ideals he lived for, the ideal to a new course, the struggle will forever be the shinning star to light the path for us until will get the type of country that we deserve, and that himself and other comrades laboured for. He had done his own work for the rest of us to continue from it."

Also, leader, Afenifere Yoruba group, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, described Odumakin as a true and uncompromised Awoist who lived all his life to advocate for a better Nigeria, a nation that works for all and sundry.

"As a politician, as an activist and public analyst, Yinka was a born-democrat. He must be praised, for the work he had done for Yorubaland, Nigeria and the progressive world cannot be quantified," Adebanjo added.

Earlier in his remarks, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, said even in death, the late Odumakin would remain an unforgettable nationalist.

"To us from your birth place, your ancestral, we will rather celebrate an icon that was graciously given to us by Olodumare (God). You are dead because you will forever live in our hearts. You were not only a son of Oduduwa land, you lived Oduduwa and you breathed Oduduwa," Ooni said.

In her remarks, the wife of the deceased, Dr. Joe Odumakin, thanked the people, particularly Governor Oyetola for the uncommon support.

Others in attendance were former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko; members of the Afenifere Yoruba group; human rights activists; members of the Civil Society Organisations; traditional rulers; top government functionaries; politicians,  among others.

Politics / Hackers have pleaded for forgiveness after diverting 10M from JAMB’s Website by Hongbenga(m): 12:11am On Apr 15, 2021
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says hackers have gained access into its intranet site and altered the profiles of its ad hoc staff.

Ishaq Oloyede, the registrar of the board, spoke on Tuesday while addressing journalists in Abuja. He said over N10 million which was set aside as allowance for the ad hoc staff was diverted

According to him, the board uncovered the fraud after a careful investigation, which led to the arrest of one Sahabi Zubairu from Takum in Taraba state, among several others.

On how the fraudsters gained access to the profiles, Oloyede explained that they used Key Logger, a software that allows access to the profile of anyone who has logged in using a public cybercafé even after the person has logged out and gone.

He said that the site wasn’t for application to become JAMB ad hoc staff, but for JAMB ad hoc staff to supply their account details and names for payment of their allowances. Oloyede said Zubairu deleted the names of the original ad hoc staff and their telephone numbers and substituted them with his, adding that those affected include code numbers 313 and 312, among others. He said that at least ten scammers paraded by JAMB before journalists on Tuesday, admitted to the crime and said they were lured into it by Zubairu

Politics / God Promised Me Osun Will Rise Again - Oyetola by Hongbenga(m): 8:24pm On Apr 11, 2021
The Governor of the State of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, has said that God promised him that Osun will rise from its doldrums.

Speaking during the thanksgiving service in honour of his wife , Mrs Kafayat Olaitan Oyetola, at the Government House Chapel to commemorate her 61st birthday, Gov Oyetola explained that the developmental strides being recorded under his administration are testaments to God's promise.

Oyetola added that his administration is committed to pursuing God's mandate till Osun becomes the toast of the nation.

He called on residents to continue to support the programmes and policies of his administration towards actualizing the God-given mandate.

While delivering his homily, the Chaplain of the Osun State Government House Chapel, Reverend (Dr) O. T. Onifade, described Governor Adegboyega Oyetola as the light that has shone in the darkness of Osun, adding that he has cleared doubts about the ability of the All Progressives Congress to deliver the dividends of democracy in the State.

Onifade explained that the situation in Osun before Oyetola's assumption of office, were inimical to the welfare of citizens and could be described as a time of darkness.

The clergy who said that Oyetola has brought the qualities that made him outstanding in his professional calling to governance, noted that he is in government to serve and not to enrich himself.

According to him, Oyetola's accomplishments over two years are stepping stones for the State to attain greatness beyond 2022.

Crime / Court Sentences Ex-sars Officer To Death For Killing Businessman, Stealing N.3m by Hongbenga(m): 10:01am On Feb 15, 2021
A High Court sitting in Benin has sentenced to death by hanging a dismissed constable, Joseph Omotosho, who was attached to the defunct Special Anti-robbery Squad, Edo State Police Command.

Four others, Adeleke Adedeji, Abena John, Oniyo Musa and Henry Shobowole, who escaped in the twin jailbreak during the #EndSars protest last October, had their sentences suspended.

They were accused of conspiracy in the extrajudicial killing of a car dealer, Benson Obodeh, in 2015 and were found guilty on eight counts bordering on conspiracy to steal and murder.

Omotosho also withdrew N330,000 from the deceased’s account through Automated Teller Machines, having obtained the PIN number from Obodeh before he was killed

Justice Ohimai Ovbiagele described testimonies provided by the claimant as firm and almost unchallenged, adding, “Therefore, the judgment was based on absolute fact, which the court absorbed as presented by the prosecuting counsel and all witnesses that appeared before the court.”

Ovbiagele pointed out that the convicts could not substantiate counter evidence against the charges levelled against them

Omotosho was also handed another seven years’ imprisonment for his role in the stealing of the deceased’s money from his bank accounts

The deceased was said to have been listed among suspected criminal gangs, who allegedly stole a Peugeot car

The prosecuting counsel, Abraham Oviawe, said, “What happened today is a confirmation of the biblical position that says the wages of sin is death. So, when one conspires to take the life of another man, with overwhelming evidence, the court has no option but to reach the verdict it reached.”

On his part, the counsel for the convicts, Lede Pique, said the judgment would be appealed

Politics / Arrest, Treat Sunday Igboho, Others Like Criminals, Makinde Tells Oyo CP by Hongbenga(m): 7:03pm On Jan 22, 2021
Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has asked the new Commissioner of Police in Oyo, CP Ngozi Onadeko, to arrest and treat those igniting ethnic tension in the state as criminals.

Makinde said this on Friday when Onadeko paid him a courtesy visit at the Governor’s Office, Agodi, Secretariat, Ibadan.

He spoke against rising tension in the state by the ultimatum given by self-acclaimed leader of Yoruba freedom agitators, Sunday Igboho, to people of Fulani ethnic stock to vacate the Ibarapa area of the State.

Makinde said that attempt to fuel security tension under any guise that would threaten the corporate vision of Nigeria would not be tolerated by his administration.

He said that his government was not against any ethic group, but was determined to flushing out criminal elements anywhere in the state

.He stressed that the Hausa/Fulani ethnic group residing in the state was not his government’s target, but hoodlums, bandits, irrespective of their tribes and religion

For people stoking ethnic tension, they are criminals and once you get them they should be arrested and treated like common criminals.”

“For this administration, the major pillar for us is security because we know that all the good things we want to do economically won’t be possible in an atmosphere of chaos and insecurity.

“So, when people say things that are not lawful and within the spirit of Nigeria’s constitution, it is not acceptable here.

“And they cannot hide under being people protecting Yoruba interest to perpetrate chaos in the state,” he said in a veiled reference to the quit order on the Fulani issued by Igboho

Makinde reiterated that security remained one of the pillars of his administration, noting that all the good policies of his administration could not be actualised in an atmosphere of chaos and insecurity.

He promised to give maximum support to the Nigerian Police and other security agencies to ensure safety of lives, property and economic prosperity of the state

Religion / Osun Ushers In 2021 With Inter-Religious Prayer (Pictures) by Hongbenga(m): 3:49am On Jan 05, 2021
As Governor lauds workers on support, cooperation

...urges them on improved service delivery

The Government of the State of Osun on Monday held its annual Inter-Religious prayer to usher in Year 2021.

This is just as the Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, lauded workers in the State for their continued support, cooperation and dedication to duty since the inception of the Administration.

He said the unprecedented 95 per cent 2020 budget performance implementation recorded in the State was partly engendered by the commitment, support and cooperation received from the workers.

The Governor also tasked the State workforce on improved commitment to excellent service delivery.

Oyetola, who spoke through his Deputy, Mr. Benedict Alabi, at the prayer session held at the Government Secretariat, Abere, Osogbo, urged the workers to see their respective positions as an opportunity to serve and a privilege to sow the right seeds for the harvest that the State desires.

"I am certain that all the religions here represented place premium on the power of sowing and reaping. It is the universal principle that governs the earth.

"I enjoin you all to make a resolution to use this year as an opportunity you have at another shot at life, to sow the seed of improved service delivery in expectation for a bountiful harvest of progress for our State and yourselves.

”I must also register my profound appreciation to you, my dearly beloved Osun workers, for the invaluable role you have played since the assumption of our Administration a little over two years ago.

"Your contributions, support and sacrifices are important building blocks on which the vision of our Development Agenda is actualised. I therefore use this opportunity to thank you all for your sustained supports,” Oyetola added.

The Governor also reiterated the administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and general well-being of the citizens.

He assured that the administration would not rest on its oars in achieving its desired goal of making Osun’s bureaucracy become one of the most equipped and remunerated in the country.

He said, "Just as I had promised during my electoral campaigns, your welfare occupies the most important place in our priority list.

"This is why since inception, we have ensured that aside from the prompt payment of your salaries , we have, in keeping to terms with my assurances at this event last year, commenced the payment of the new minimum wage and lifted embargo on promotions and conversions.

"Equally, our assiduous commitment to the payment of pension stems from the value we place on you and this commitment is what underscored the 95 per cent 2020 budget performance implementation -- a rate that is perhaps unprecedented in the history of our State.

”Hence, I must equally challenge you to work harder this year. Your commitment to improved service delivery is central to increased productivity.

”On our part as an Administration, we are tirelessly committed to setting Osun on the pathway of sustainable economic revolution.”

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Tajudeen Lawal, described Year 2020 as one full of difficult moments, adding that the State of Osun was able to survive the turbulence through the help of God.

He maintained that the prayer was significant as it afforded the State the opportunity to thank God for the wisdom bestowed on Governor Oyetola in tackling the socioeconomic challenges posed by the Coronavirus pandemic.

"It is noteworthy that despite the disruptions, the state recorded tremendous achievements in areas of infrastructure development, healthcare, education, tourism among others. We pray for continued wisdom and guidance for the Governor and members of his Executive Council," he added.

The Head of Service, Dr. Featus Oyebade, appreciated the Governor for not only paying the workers' salaries for the month of December 2020 before the Christmas, but for also ensuring that some pensioners under the contributory pension scheme got paid their arrears for the first time since 2016.

Others in attendance were the Speaker, Osun House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, represented by Hon. Wale Adedoyin; the Chief Judge of Osun, Justice Adepele Ojo, represented by Justice Olayinka Afolabi; Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji; members of the State Executive Council; the Osun APC Caretaker Chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun; traditional rulers; religious leaders; top Government functionaries, among others.

Politics / LAUTECH: Thank You For Playing The Role Of A Statesman, Makinde Lauds Oyetola by Hongbenga(m): 4:27pm On Nov 30, 2020
...…Says Osun, Oyo students’ll enjoy rights, privileges of ownership

…As Oyetola charges Oyo Govt on faithful implementation of agreements

November 30, 2020

The Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Monday, commended the Governor of the State of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola , for the role he played in finding a permanent solution to the many years of joint ownership crises of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH).
Makinde added that without the leadership quality displayed by Oyetola, the problem could not have been resolved.

It will be recalled that the National Universities Commission (NUC) recently handed over ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, to the Oyo State Government while the Osun state Government took over the College of Health Sciences in Osogbo.
The decision was taken after the joint owners, Osun and Oyo, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to effect a new management structure of the institution.
Makinde, who paid a ‘thank you’ visit to Governor Oyetola at his office in Osogbo, reiterated that indigenes of Oyo and Osun State working in the institution will retain all the rights and privileges stipulated in their letters of engagements and that the security of their jobs was guaranteed.

Makinde said: “I bring you greetings from the people and government of Oyo State. I came here to thank my brother, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, for the role he played in resolving the LAUTECH issues that had lingered for years.
“There’s been a lot of talk and insinuations out there in the media but what we’ve both done is to put the interest of our children, the students of that University, over and above politics, partisanship and ego.
“Some people have even started to insinuate that the two states have failed, because in the spirit of regional integration and oneness, we should have been able to jointly manage the institution. My response was that their position was well thought out and lucid but they missed the point.

“The point is, the joint ownership over the years had become challenging in terms of funding and management leading to constant friction and disruptions in the university.
“What was important was to get results, get our children back to school, get the university to a point where it can fulfill its mandate which is to train children who would be instrumental to the development of the State and the nation at large. That, we are now on track to achieving.
“Also, we have had instances when identical parties held sway in Oyo and Osun, yet this issue was not resolved. But here we are today, PDP and APC have worked together and solved the problem. So, we are all winners in this matter.
“I came to thank Governor Oyetola because without him playing the role of a statesman, we could not have solved the problem. Generations yet unborn will continue to value the role you played in resolving this issue.
“In LAUTECH, there is no longer Oyo Forum or Osun Forum. There is now only LAUTECH Forum. So, both Osun and Oyo States’ students in the institution will continue to enjoy the privileges of the owner states. There will be no discrimination, the fee structure remains the same and we look forward to the products of LAUTECH, whether from Oyo or Osun, contributing their quota to the progress and development of our states and Nigeria at large”, Makinde stated.
In his remarks, the Governor of the State of Osun, Adegboyega Oyetola, said the decision to sign off the institution required him to be statemanly and rise above political and primordial sentiments.
He added that his administration had considered the overall best interest of the State, the future of the students of the institution who were directly affected by the incessant crises, the welfare of the staff and the unity of the Yoruba nation, before taking the difficult but necessary decision.
Oyetola, who maintained that Osun had fully discharged its responsibilities towards LAUTECH before its exit, said that in the spirit of the agreement, the State look forward to the 12-month Transition Arrangement that will attend to all issues, intended or otherwise, which may be thrown up by the separation of ownership.
Oyetola charged the Oyo State Government to honour the agreement by ensuring prompt, complete and faithful implementation of every clause in the Memorandum of Understanding

Politics / Minimum Wage: Osun Workers Hold 'thank You Walk' For Governor Oyetola by Hongbenga(m): 5:44pm On Nov 02, 2020
Osun workers to Oyetola: You 're a promise keeper

...give gov rousing welcome to office over new minimum wage, other welfare packages

Following the approval of new welfare packages for all categories of workers in Osun State, the civil servants have a passed vote of confidence in Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, describing him as a promise keeper.

The workers who went into jubilation over the new welfare packages also hailed the administration of Governor Oyetola for taking their welfare as topmost priority since assumption of office in 2018.

It will be recalled that Governor Adegboyega Oyetola had on Friday announced the approval and immediate implementation of new national minimum wage for all categories of workers in the State.

The Governor also lifted embargo on the protracted Annual Salary Increment, Promotions and Conversions which had been withheld since 2012. The implementation of these welfare packages commenced on 1st of November this year.

The state bureaucrats who had earlier converged on the main entrance of the State Government Secretariat, Abere, Osogbo, on Monday, tumultuously welcomed the Governor and his entourage as part of efforts to show their unreserved appreciation and unflinching support and solidarity for the Administration.

The jubilating workers who treked with the Governor from the main entrance gate to the Governor's office were seen with handy-barners carrying different solidarity inscriptions to confirm their support and cooperation with the present government.

Speaking on behalf of the workers in the State, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Jacob Babatunde Adekomi, applauded the State Government for coming to their aid at the most critical period of their needs.

He described the approval and the implementation of the myriad workers' demands within the two years of the present administration as unimaginable, surprising and remarkable.

According to him, the new development would go a long way to re-energise the workers' strength, stimulate their level of productivity and by extension register a significant improvement on the economy of the State.

Adekomi who couldn't hide his excitement noted that the purpose of the rousing welcome was to further renew their loyalty, commitment, dedication and unalloyed support and solidarity for the Administration.

He added: "To whom much is given, much is expected. Actually, we are here this morning to appreciate Mr. Governor for what he has done and still doing for the generality of the workers in the State.

"You will recollect that in 2012, embargo was placed on Annual Salary Increment. Also, embargo was placed on promotions and conversions. The last time workers earned all these benefits was in 2012. 2018 promotions that were done for us were nominal but not monitised.

"But with this agreement and subsequent approval of Mr Governor, he has succeeded in monetising the 2018 promotions hitherto that we were collected which had not been monitised.

"Also, Mr Governor had successfully lifted embargo on other promotions which are 2019 and 2020. He has implemented National Minimum Wage and also, he has lifted embargo on conversions for all categories of workers in the state.

"In fact, a lot of goodies and packages for the workers which we have been agitating for have been attended to. As you can see, we are extremely happy for the kind gesture extended to us by the Government".

In his response, Governor Oyetola expressed delight with the warmth reception given to him by the rank and file of the State workforce.

He appreciated the workers for their continued show of love, solidarity, high sense of diligence to duty and commitment to the advancement of the State since the inception of his administration.

Oyetola who described Osun workers as the most diligent and cooperative proletariats, said he has always derived happiness and rest of mind in the caliber of individuals made up the State workforce.

The Governor who lamented the meagre resources of the State, said in spite of the fact that it was tough to arrive at the decision, the need to do the necessity must not be compromised for whatever reason.

He attributed the decision to the fulfilment of his electoral promises just as he reiterated that the need to uplift the standard of living of workers in the State remained none-negotiable.

He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to continue to champion the workers' welfare and things that will bring all-round development to the people of the Staywte in general and workers in rparticularly.

"Although what it was did was not particularly convenient for us, we did it as part of our commitment to the welfare and well-being of our workers.

"As a responsible and responsive government, it is our belief that workers should be able to get whatever that is due to the. That was why we deemed it fit to do all these for them.

"All I expect from them is increase in productivity. I expect for us to work together to increase our revenue as we all know that the State needs money to finance all its commitments. We need to work hard to move the State forward.

"The wage bill is huge, it is a tough thing to do. But when you look at the career advancement, we will know that it is a necessity. We believe strongly that with determination, we will get over it.

"As long as the revenue of our State improves, we can still do more but we should all work very hard. As we said before, if we have opportunity to increase our revenue, no doubt, we will jerk up the workers' welfare packages", Oyetola added.

Politics / My COVID-19 Story- Osun SSG by Hongbenga(m): 11:31pm On Jul 11, 2020
..Says virus is real

The Secretary to the Osun state Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, has implored Nigerians thinking COVID-19 is a scam to have a rethink two weeks after testing positive to COVID-19.

Oyebamiji's testimony came shortly after he tested negative twice to the dreaded virus and announced COVID-19 free by the health workers.

The state government, through the Commissioner of Health Dr Rafiu Isamotu had on June 30 announced that the SSG tested positive to COVID-19.

While narrating his experience, Oyebamiji noted that his survival shows that Coronavirus is not a death sentence.

Oyebamiji who attested to the reality of the virus said with what he saw, experienced and went through, there is no sense in saying the virus is a scam.

He called on those who believe that the virus was not real or was a scam to wake up to reality as the virus if not properly and promptly treated could lead to death.

While imploring Nigerians particularly the people of the state to cooperate with the government and abide by the safety rules, Oyebamiji said the only way to contain the virus and put an end to the pandemic was for the people to stay safe.

"I want to tell Nigerians that COVID-19 is real though not a death sentence. I will urge Nigerians to cooperate with their leaders and adhere strictly to the directives of the NCDC. And the moment one spots any health challenge, he or she should report immediately to the health workers.

"In addition, i want to say that the various efforts of government can only yield fruit if we citizens abide by the rules and regulations of staying safe and staying alive.

"We must adhere strictly to the use of face masks, social distancing and avoid crowded places among other precautionary measures.

"We must know that government is spending fortunes to ensure that the citizens live healthy and this must not be abused or jeopardize by our carefree attitude to simple health tips.

" For instance in Osun, as early as first week of March when the outbreak of the pandemic was confirmed, the state government started warning on the need for the citizens to abide by the safety measures.

"So, I urge the citizens of Osun in particular to please comply with the simple rules and regulations", he said.

When asked on how he contracted the disease in spite of the safety measures put in place by government, Oyebamiji said only God knows because he did everything possible to stay safe.

He attributed the frontline roles played by members of the cabinet particularly himself after the outbreak of the disease in the state as a major factor that may have led to his infection.

Oyebamiji, a septuagenarian, explained that his infection to the virus was not due to carelessness but rather a job hazard as because those in government have to keep working to keep the state working and safe.

"As you all know that all cabinet members were on the field to ensure that the spread of the virus is contained. We did our best to ensure that we contain the spread of the virus. Cabinet members can't just go into hiding. We just to maintain a delicate balance between staying safe and doing the job we took an oath to do." He explained.

Politics / Why I Returned To APC- Former Osun SSG, Adeoti by Hongbenga(m): 10:09am On Jun 27, 2020
The candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in the 2018 governorship Election in Osun State, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, has returned to ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

He formally defected to APC with thousands of his supporters including some notable members of the ADP who have been paddling the canoe of the party before he joined them.

He moved to the ADP after the crisis that broke out during the APC governorship primary in the state.

Officially announcing his defection to his former party at his campaign office Osogbo , Adeoti said he had suffered so much for the party, recalling that he was jailed thrice because of the party, and nobody would pray for the house he built to collapse.

Adeoti while addressing Journalists noted that apart from the fact that he is a core member of the progressive party, said he has no choice than to go back to his former party considering appeals and number of persuasions he had received from the leadership of the party both in the state and at the national level.

The former SSG who said some notable party leaders among whom are the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu have persuaded him to return to the party added that he was going back to the party to resolve the internal crisis within the party.

“You will all recall all the events that preceded our leaving the APC that culminated in my decision, along with my teeming supporters, to find another progressive platform to contest the governorship election.

“That decision was indeed not an easy one, as we did all we could, to make the party leadership see reasons why due process needed to be observed in picking the party’s flag bearer for the 2018 gubernatorial poll In a way, our action had contributed in no small measure to the further strengthening of internal democracy as reflected in the volume of votes garnered
by the ADP in the said election.

“We made history in a way, in view of the number of votes (49,742) garnered, despite having barely less than two months to prepare for an election of such magnitude.

“No candidate in the political history of the state has ever neared that feat given that hard choice we made and environment we operated in. Our choice of ADP as the platform to contest the last governorship election was equally not an easy one in view of the numerous overtures we also received from other political parties in the country, freely making available to us their platforms to contest the election.

“We however saw in the ADP, similar progressive philosophy identical with that of the APC, thus we decided to perch there and partake actively in the governorship election.

“Since the said election was held, several political and opinion leaders in the progressive fold across the state and even beyond have been making numerous overtures and mounting pressure on my humble self and my numerous supporters on the need for our chickens to come home to roost.

“The result of the efforts of the likes of the former governor and pioneer National Chairman of the APC, Chief Adebisi Akande, immediate-past governor of the state and incumbent Minister for Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola and members of the State Elders Forum led by the former Secretary to the StateGovernment, Chief Sola Akinwumi is what we are all witnessing today.

“It must not also go without particular mention the numerous efforts made by the current Governor of the State, Alhaji Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola, who in spite of his very busy schedule, tirelessly mounted pressure on me and my supporters through telephone calls and personal visit to my residence in lwo, in company of the APC State Chairman, Prince Gboyega Famoodun and Alhaji Razak Salinsile, the state Secretary of the APC, on the need for us to return to the All Progressives Congress, where he said we rightly belong.

“Efforts by former and serving state governors across the federation are also
worthy of being mentioned.
We also need to commend all the efforts of numerous individual prominent
politicians, women and youths groups within the APC, who on daily basis have
turned my lwo residence into their Mecca-of-sorts, persuading us on the need to come back to APC and collectively further strengthen the party ahead of all future
elections.

“However, our brief but eventful sojourn and investment in the ADP has yielded bountiful dividends, as founding members of the party, who we met on ground and had contributed in no small measure to the party’s sure-footing in the state, are here today to join us in our return to the All Progressives Congress. I believe that together, we still have so much to politically offer the state.

“On a final note, 1, Alhaji Moshood Olalekan Adeoti, hereby declare my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and consequently direct all my teeming supporters across the state to do the same immediately.

“All my supporters are also enjoined to go to their individual wards in their respective Local Government Council Areas in the state to formally join the party, APC, and actively participate in all party activities.

“We have been assured by the party leadership at the national and state levels that none of us would be reprimanded or discriminated against based on our past political efforts.”

Politics / Ondo2020: Akeredolu Vs His Deputy Ajayi: Has The Dust Settled? by Hongbenga(m): 10:45pm On May 30, 2020
For months now, many have been wondering about the relationship between Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State and his deputy, Agboola Ajayi, amidst claims that the duo can’t work together.

While the uncertainties about their relationship rage, with their allies and supporters clashing openly on some occasions, neither Akeredolu, nor Ajayi has confirmed the alleged cracks on the wall of their joint ticket. On many occasions, the duo came out to tell the world that all was well between them

But keen observers of the politics of the state claimed their statements were mere attempts to manage a deepening crisis. Stories of how some concerned stakeholders within and outside the state tried to reconcile the duo also flew around with most attempts ending in deadlock according to tale-bearers

Two weeks ago, very strong indications emerged that Ajayi may be dropped as deputy governorship candidate in the July governorship election, just as it was strongly bandied that the embattled deputy governor may have struck a deal with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) on his possible defection to the party to pick the governorship ticket

Now, it appears that the dispute between the two men may have been settled. Sentry learnt that some prominent traditional rulers and eminent personalities from the Ondo South senatorial district, in a last minute effort to save the situation, may have succeeded in settling the grouses between the duo. As things stand, the dust may have settled. Whether it is so or not, events of the next few weeks will reveal.

Politics / Osun Empowers 6,000 Farmers, Flags Off 2020 Planting Season by Hongbenga(m): 6:20pm On May 21, 2020
...We're fully committed to developing agriculture value chain- Oyetola

The Osun state Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola on Thursday said his administration was fully committed to developing agriculture value chain in all strata.

He said that the government had created an enabling environment for agric businesses to thrive such that more youths and investors youths can earn a living and create employment through the establishment of cottage industries in the state.

The Governor stated these while flagging off the Year 2020 Planting at the State Government Secretariat, Abere, Osogbo.

No fewer than 6,000 farmers benefitted from the various farm inputs, equipment and agriculture facilities distributed by the government.

Addressing the gathering at the flag-off ceremony, Governor Oyetola said the government considered it necessary to support all farmers to boost agricultural production as part of efforts to ensure food sufficiency and availability of raw materials for industries in the state.

Oyetola who maintained that the administration understands the importance of farmers in developing the economy of the state, disclosed that the government had engaged captains of industry to off-take farm produce in the area of arable crops, livestock, among others so as to make agribusiness more profitable.

He said the state had strengthened collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)/Nigeria Cassava Grower’s Association (NCGA) Osun Chapter and was firming up plans to distribute Agro-chemicals, fertilizers, and herbicides to over 2, 000 farmers through the Anchor Borrower Programme, which previously took care of 611 cotton growers across the state in the 2019/2020 season.

He stated further that the government had approved the release of funds to the Federation of Fadama Community Associations (FFCA) to offset the outstanding balance of two John Deere Tractors and other complimentary implements to support the community for the Year 2020 planting season.

According to him, the state was also making Power Tiller available to rice farmers at subsidized rate, in line with the cardinal goal of food security and sufficiency of the administration.

"In the face of dwindling revenue generation from Crude Oil, which has been the mainstay of the nation's economy, this challenge presents a great opportunity for serious and would-be farmers to take advantage of.

"In view of the above, our government considers it necessary to support all farmers in the State to boost agricultural production, which will ensure food sufficiency and availability of raw materials for our industries.

"In the previous years, our supports were in form of subsidised inputs. But this year, we are giving agricultural inputs such as maize seeds, cassava cuttings, vegetable seeds, lime, fingerlings, and Knapsack sprayers free to farmers to cushion the effects of COVID-19 on all the citizenry within and outside the State.

"Also, arrangements are in top gear to disburse soft loans to small and medium scale enterprises at a reduced interest rate through the Bank of Agriculture (BOA).

"I wish to emphasize that the State Government has great concern for their welfare and wellbeing, hence the distribution of the inputs freely as palliatives to cushion the effects of COVID-19 pandemic.

"Our livestock farmers are not left out. There is a World Bank Project called Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) to support livestock farmers in the State, which will take off this year, God willing.

"Our state is one of the 15 beneficiary states of the project. Our Osun Broiler Outgrowers’ Production Scheme (OBOPS) is on-going. We are preparing for its further expansion to accommodate more participants", Oyetola added.

Governor Oyetola commended the federal government's interventions and contributions in supporting the state in its resolve to revamping the agriculture just as he urged farmers to continue to join hands with the government of the state to actualise the dream of food security and sufficiency.

"At this juncture, it is important to appreciate the interventions of the Federal Government in diversifying the national economy through agriculture. I am also using this opportunity to thank all our critical development partners and well-meaning individuals who have been very supportive in the drive to take agriculture in the State of Osun to the next level.

"I urge all farmers in the State to join hands with the government of the state to actualise the dream of food sufficiency", he said.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Adedayo Adewole, commended Governor Oyetola for his commitment to the well-being of farmers in the state.

He said the Ministry was partnering with private sector and well-meaning individuals to revive the agriculture sector in the state.

Adewole described agriculture as the way to go if the nation was serious in its quest to diversify the economy, saying Osun had been making waves in its efforts to make agriculture more profitable for the farmers.

"There is no doubt that our Governor is committed to the overall well-being of our farmers and is not leaving any stone unturned to achieve this feat.

"In supporting the efforts of the state government to alleviate burden of farmers, enhance food security, employment generation and poverty eradication, the ministry had collaborated with principal partners to achieve these goals", Adewole added.

The Branch Controller, Central Bank of Nigeria, Osogbo branch, Mrs. Ajuma Madojemu, applauded the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for turning around the socioeconomic fortunes of the state for the betterment of the citizenry.

Madojemu said the bank was aware of the prompt intervention of the government to reposition agriculture and make the sector the state's economy mainstay.

She maintained that, the bank in recognition of its role as an “enabler” in the economy, had always provided either solely or in conjunction with the federal government, an environment to quicken the pace of economic development, saying, "one of our recent development intervention programs is the Anchor Borrowers Programme aimed at enabling the nation reduce its huge food import bill and conserve our foreign reserves".

Madojemu said, "The Anchor Borrowers Programme (ABP) was launched by President Muhammed Buhari on 17th November, 2015 with the aim of linking smallholder farmers with Anchors (processors) who would ensure a ready market for farm produce as Anchors guarantee purchase of whatever the farmers produce. Stakeholders in the Anchor Borrowers Programme include the Central Bank of Nigeria, participating Financial institutions, insurance companies, farmers, Anchors (Processors) service providers etc. In addition, the ABP loan is majorly in kind rather cash; as such , inputs and services are provided to the farmers directly.

"In Osun State some groups of farmers had benefitted from the ABP programme, these include fish, poultry, rice and cotton farmers. Today, 1342 cassava farmers in the State will join the list of beneficiaries of the CBN ABP Programme", she added.

The Chairman, Nigeria Cassava Growers' Association, Dr David Ogunsade, expressed gratitude to the state government for making farmers' welfare priority.

He said: " I have to thank the government for its positive interventions to boost production of cassava crops as we have received inputs, chemicals and fertilizer for about 1346 farmers from various local governments in the state.

"We have resolved to use all the inputs for our agricultural activities as we are committed to increase our own production in Osun to over 2million tons so as to be able to compete with our sister states", he stressed.

The Chairman of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Osun state chapter, Alhaji Sulaiman Araokanmi, hailed the state government for uplifting the standard of living of farmers in the state since assumption of office.

The event was attended by the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola; Deputy Governor, Mr. Benedict Alabi; Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye; Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Charles Akinola; Head of Service, Dr. Olowogboyega Oyebade among others.
