Politics › Re: Why Can't Nigerians Be Like The Egyptians And Protest Against Bad Leadership? by Horus(m): 1:46pm On Jul 15, 2013
Why is it that Nigerians shy away from sustained mass action and protests like their counterparts in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Bahrain and USA? Why do we prefer to protest from the comfort and luxury of our bedrooms with our laptops and mobile phones instead of taking to the streets to pour out our frustrations. We prefer to protest and insult our leaders with our phones and laptops behind the veil of anonymous monikers? what are we afraid of or are we scared that nobody will listen to us? Egyptians alone have toppled two administrations and one regime over the past two years (Mubarak, Field Marshal Tantawi and Mursi) just by trooping to the streets and singing protest songs? By so doing they captured the attention of the whole world which sped up the revolution. A typical Nigerian only knows how to complain and complain and complain when he is with his friends or at the beer parlor or when she gossips at the salon. When are we going to have our own Nigerian Revolution, Naija Harmattan or whatever?
It is futile trying to unite Nigerians, physically, without first uniting them, mentally. When the mind is out of order, the person is out of order. When the minds of Nigerians are divided, the physical persons are divided. There can be no mental unity as long as tribalism and religious bigotry is upon Nigerians. If the minds of Nigerians are free from tribalism and religious bigotry, the physical persons are free or will soon be free, because the mind is the control, and thereby determines the course that the person or persons will take. When destruction of tribalism and religious bigotry is complete, Nigerians will have a free and united mind without confusion, ignorance and apathy.

Our question; 'How does the Lagos-Abidjan highway cost $2bn and the Lagos-Ibadan highway cost $1bnhuh' Is Ibadan almost the same distance with Abidjan from Lagos? SMH
If it is a Lagos-Abidjan highway, a percentage of the $2bn can be funded by Abidjan. Nigeria and Ivory coast will both win economically by funding the project together. Abidjan has also the second biggest port in West Africa.

geeez: Now BRF's model is making sense

If Government institutions, offices, barracks, universities, street lighting and industrial estates and parks can be powered by independent power plants, there will be enough energy free for commercial and residential areas

Industrial areas should however be given top priority
100% of the street lighting should be powered with independant solar panels. This will reduce maintenance coast.

Nigeria boasts world's twin capital

Nigeria has the world's highest rate of twins

Within Nigeria, the south-west leads the way and within the south-west, the town of Igbo-Ora comes out top of the twins league, population experts say.

Twins
Igbo-Ora: 158 twins per 1,000 births
Europe: five twins per 1,000 births

In a study, renowned Sierra Leonean gynaecologist Patrick Nylander found that in Igbo-Ora, three sets of twins were born in every 19 births. Head chief Lamidi Adeyemi, who of course has a set of twins himself, says that in the past, families with twins converged on the town, increasing the chances that their children would in turn have twins, or even triplets. And once the families with twins moved to Igbo-Ora, he says that twins began to be worshipped as deities. Nature or nutrition? While Mr Adeyemi explains the high twinning rate by lineage, some locals have other theories.

The town is proud of its record

Kehinde Morawo has a twin brother but says his family boasts many more twins and he in turn wants to have twins when he has children. "I believe it's the food we eat that's why we have twins." In particular, he says it is caused by the fondness of ethnic Yorubas for yams, locally called isu. Another local resident, Mr Oniyide, says: "It's a common thing and I regard it as a blessing from God." The facilities at the babies ward at the local Olugbon Hospital may be threadbare but the delivery of twins is a routine procedure, according to medical director Rasak Tijani.

Igbo-Ora

"I cannot say it's peculiar to us because of the food we eat but it's more genetical."
"Those in other local government areas in this area eat the same food as us. We have the same culture and practice but the rate of twinning is different," he says. But consultant gynaecologist Donald Imosemi at Nigeria's biggest medical institution, Lagos university teaching hospital, says that food may indeed play a part. Extensive studies on multiple births have been conducted, showing that yams contain the chemical gonadotrophins, which helps women produce multiple eggs, he says. "There's enough reason to want to believe in this theory." "Even among the Yorubas living outside the Western part of Nigeria, the twinning rate is found to be very high." While the birth of twins is generally celebrated, it also means an extra mouth to feed in this region of subsistence farmers.

Some experts say the high
rate of twins is genetic

One local resident said that it was difficult to raise his twins because they need twice as much attention. "You're now faced with providing two things for two people. So definitely you're going to spend so much for the two of them," he said. But another agreed with Chief Adeyemi that twins should be worshipped. "It's a sort of honour to be so-called Baba or Iya Ibeji,Father or mother of twins, because they are a special breed from God."

Nigeria has not set up a database for paedophiles as is the case in some developed countries.
It is time to create a national database in Nigeria to protect childrens. Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria have also to watch out because of the increasing number of p.edophile tourists searching sex service with young girls and boys.

Why do you respect someone?. Because of their good qualities, isn't it? For example, positive qualities like honesty, wisdom, virtue, talents, good behavior and showing high moral standards. Have respect for yourself first before begging for respect.

Church leaders ask for tithes in the name of God. They'll say “God needs your help building the church”. What does god need with a multi-million dollar church? Nothing. These are the same so-called church leaders that you'll find riding in fancy cars, eating the best foods, living in expensive homes and living the life of wealthy people while their followers scrape and struggle to do “God's will” by tithing. These so-called leaders will lead congregations in the worse of the worse neighborhoods and on their way to church to preach on Sundays or Saturdays or whatever day they declare to be the Sabbath, they will step over the homeless or the less fortunate.

naptu2: I just read a report that said that the aerostar and seastar drones are not defective, but that they were grounded as a result of a dispute.

The report claimed that the drones were deployed to monitor pipelines (vandalisation, bunkering, etc), but that the data gotten from the drones is first taken to Israel and analysed there before being given to the Nigerian Government.

The government wasn't happy about this development because it expected that Nigerian technicians would have been trained to analyse the data (they fear that the Isrealis may gain vital intelligence and even edit or modify the data before it is given to the FG). This, the report claims, is one of the reasons that the FG decided to ground the drones and fast-track the development of the amebor series of drones.

I do not know if the report is accurate.
If it is the case, this is unfair. The data is property of the Nigerian Government and the Isrealis should not have access to it.
You cannot trust the Isrealis, they can resale the data to your own enemy.

Jonathan is a very weak man, influenced by his wife – Tom David-West

By Wale Odunsi on July 13, 2013

Former Petroleum Minister, Professor Tam David-West, has reacted to the ongoing political crisis in Rivers state.

According to him, Governor Rotimi Amaechi is being “unnecessarily molested”

Commenting on the rift between Ameachi and his former aide, Nyeson Wike, David-West, who spoke in an interview with TheNEWS said, “One of his greatest enemies, Nyesom Wike, Minister of State for Education, was his chief of staff and they were very close until few months ago when he went to Abuja. This same chief of staff used to congratulate me whenever he reads my article about Amaechi. What is the reason for their disagreement?

“Their first disagreement was that the chief of staff wants to be Governor after Amaechi and Amaechi said that will not be right because they are from the same ethnic group, Ikwerre. He said the state can’t have Ikwerre Governor for eight years and be succeeded by an Ikwerre person. He feels that is unfair to other ethnic groups in the state.

“So, he is insisting that the governorship has to go to the riverine people. But Amaechi has been vindicated because Wike declared two weeks ago that he wants to be a Governor. Amaechi’s opposition forced Wike into opting to go to the Senate. But Amaechi said that his next ambition is to become a Senator. Wike is finding it difficult to deal with being stopped first from becoming Governor, and then Senator. The last time I visited Amaechi, I told him that if he is doing well, I will say it and if not, I will say it. I can do that because I don’t want anything from him. Amaechi is suffering injustice.

The former Minister described as a lie, the speculation that Ameachi’s ordeal resulted from his ambition to become the nation’s vice-president.

When asked if the misunderstanding between Amaechi and Wike was of interest to President Goodluck Jonathan, he retorted that “Patience, the President’s wife, hates Amaechi.”

“I hate the word Your Excellency. Which Excellency? Have you ever heard Barack Obama’s wife being addressed as Her Excellency? Or David Cameron’s? he asked.

“We forget that the place of the first lady is completely unconstitutional and irrelevant. I am happy the National Assembly stopped the N4b allocation proposed by the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory for the construction of a building for African First Ladies Mission.

He said the President’s wife wants an Okrika man to be Governor after Amaechi.

“Unfortunately for Patience, she is not restrained at all. She can say anything and do anything without inhibition. Mrs. Jonathan once embarrassed Amaechi at a public function in Okrika. That was uncivilised. I think without further delay, Patience should be humbled enough to publicly tender an unreserved apology for that attitude because being a president’s wife doesn’t give her the licence to be rude. Who will take what Patience did?

“That shows how impatient she is and that shows you how much Amaechi has absorbed. She humiliates him every time. Jonathan caused it because he can’t say no to whatever his wife says. He is a very weak husband and he is a very weak president. Whatever she says must happen. Whenever she goes out with her husband, she stays in front and the husband stays behind her. Nigeria should not take this and the earlier we rose to say this nonsense must stop, the better.

“Wives have a lot of influence on their husbands. Most of the things Jonathan is doing are very wrong. President Jonathan is so obstructive. If she is good, she should be able to talk to her husband not to do things that are not good and always remind him that they should leave good legacies behind. Abdulsalami Abubakar’s wife advised her husband well. She went to the university and law school. But this is a lady that ended in high school.

The Professor further argued that Mrs. Jonathan has a degree.

“As far as my record shows, I don’t attach any degree to her, but if I am wrong, please, Reuben Abati, publish it and let me be educated. As far as I know, she did some secretarial studies or something. There is no record that says that Mrs. Jonathan is a graduate. I am saying that the excesses of Mrs. Jonathan can’t be a positive platform for her husband to be a president. In fact, in any other country, if you are unable to restrain your wife’s excesses, you are impeached and you go back to your village and stay.
Lamenting the recent visit of the First Lady to Port Harcourt, the academic cum social critic said “I was there. I witnessed it. I arrived the same day. Fortunately, I left the airport before they closed the road, but I saw the crowd gathering. It was a very obscene show of arrogance of power. As soon as I checked into my hotel, the sirens came. Even Amaechi couldn’t come out of the Government House. Where did she get the money to build that big house she just built? There was a heavy security and the neighbours were complaining. When I was leaving the airport, I counted at least 20 security cars. One of the policemen said: ‘Professor, hurry up before the super human comes.”

On Jonathan’s desire to seek re-election, he admitted that the President has the right to contest.

“According to the constitution, he has the right to contest, with some caveat. All the noise of continuing and completing Yar’Adua’s tenure are all academic, they are all just expression to justify what he wants to do. Does he deserve another term? My answer is that he doesn’t deserve it. Jonathan is not showing enough gratitude to Nigerians. If he ruled as a president after Yar’Adua and after that contested again and won, now ruling, he doesn’t have the moral right to contest again. Pragmatically, he is asking for third term.

“The other moral aspect, which people are glossing over, is the agreement with the North that he is going to serve only one term? Governor Aliyu Babangida of Niger State is a responsible man, highly educated and knowledgeable. He said Jonathan promised to go for only one term and it was on that basis that the North supported him. I believe him.

“Those asking for documents are talking nonsense. Jonathan is used to lies. He has lied before concerning rotational presidency. When they say that it is contained in PDP constitution that presidency is rotational between the North and the South, Jonathan openly said that there is nothing like that in the PDP constitution. He was corrected by Ebenezer Babatope. Babatope is a great friend of mine, but his activities in PDP are so repulsive to me. Babatope said Jonathan is equal to Awolowo plus Zik plus Sadauna and I said he is talking nonsense. Awolowo made Babatope. Awolowo sent Babatope to study Law in London. His statement is not only disrespectful to Awolowo, but also heresy. Jonathan signed that constitution that says that presidency is rotational. A president that told such a big lie should be impeached.

The best Dress code is the Nigerian one, a true way of living and dressing which is for Africans. We have for too long lived in the image and likeness of other races and other cultures. We have accepted their dress, their diets, their languages, their gods, their customs, etc. And what has it done for us?. Nothing but inequality and hatred. Dont follow those of our race who have converted to hate self and kind. Following your own culture cannot stop you to develop and become a very modern nation. Arab billionaires in Dubai still have their own Dress code and it doesnt stop them to develop.
